- Chapter 34 - If You’re Obedient, Nothing Will Happen...
Inside the only containment room on the left side of the fourth floor, Su Xi leaned against the console, focused intently on his work. Not far away, by the edge of the pool, Mephisto who had previously been violent and hostile was now obediently using his sharp nails to peel back the shell of a shrimp, picking out the tender meat to eat.
His movements were refined, not at all as crude as Su Xi had initially imagined. Watching the nearly motionless pile of fish, Su Xi arched an eyebrow in surprise. “Are you a picky eater too?”
Hearing this, Mephisto’s hand paused. After a two-second silence, he picked out the smallest floral sea bass from the pile and took a tiny bite, looking somewhat reluctant.
Su Xi hadn’t meant to force him, but seeing the way he ate the fish, he couldn’t suppress a smile. A light chuckle escaped his lips, his exquisite features warming like a sudden glow in the middle of a cold winter.
He withdrew his gaze and stopped staring. Lately, work at the institute had become increasingly frantic. As the leader of Group Two, he was naturally up to his neck in tasks. Besides managing his assigned test subjects, he often had to visit the archives to search for relevant data.
Outside the institute, the thick white snow looked like a silver-white coat draped over the landscape. As mottled shadows fell, the melting snow slid down the transparent glass windows, gathering into small puddles on the grass. The frozen pond rippled.
Su Xi closed the book in his hand and returned it to the shelf. A faint blush lingered on his fair face, and his eyes were lowered, hiding his emotions.
“Host, what’s wrong?” System 1368 had just finished announcing the good news that the Salvation Value had reached 20. In the blink of an eye, it noticed Su Xi’s state was off. It asked hesitantly, “You aren’t… having an ‘episode,’ are you?”
Su Xi bit his lip and didn’t speak. He headed into the bathroom. The billowing steam dampened the smooth tiles. Hot water in the tub rose to his neck; he allowed himself to be tightly wrapped by the undulating water, finding a brief reprieve for his exhausted body amidst the heavy humidity.
Lately, whenever he felt miserable, he would take a hot bath. On nights when he couldn’t sleep, he relied on sleeping pills.
Perhaps because he had suppressed his emotions for too long, he didn’t feel better even after soaking for a long time today. When he stepped out of the tub, he stumbled and nearly slipped, only steadying himself by grabbing the sink. Wrapping himself in a bathrobe, he used a towel to dry his wet, dark hair.
Through the hazy mirror, he suddenly saw a long, deep blue object emerge from the corner. Su Xi narrowed his eyes and jerked his head around, but everything looked normal.
Just as his racing heart was about to settle, a slimy chill touched his ankle. His pupils shrank as he looked down at a tentacle that had appeared out of nowhere. The deep blue limb, lined with suckers, wound tightly around him. A strange sensation spread upward from the point of contact.
He knew this was a clone of A04. The sensations he had worked so hard to suppress began to flare up again. His breathing became difficult as he spoke in a trembling voice, “Let go.”
The tentacle wound around him seemed not to hear. It brazenly crawled up his long, straight calf. Seeing it about to touch his thigh, Su Xi panicked, the corners of his eyes burning a fiery red. “I know you can hear me. Let go.”
The tentacle paused for two seconds, hesitated, then prepared to continue. Su Xi hadn’t expected a single tentacle to put him in such a pathetic state. How was Group Three managing their security? Why was A04’s tentacle appearing freely outside the containment room?
“I’ll come find you. Let go first,” Su Xi said, half-threatening and half-pleading.
Sure enough, as soon as the words fell, the tentacle obediently retracted. He actually sensed a hint of pride and regret from the featureless limb. His fair leg was covered in slimy secretions from the suckers. Su Xi used tissues to wipe it away, only stopping when his skin was rubbed raw and stinging with pain.
Throwing the crumpled tissues into the trash, he frowned. After ensuring the tentacle had vanished, he changed his clothes and rushed toward A04’s containment room. To his surprise, he met Cui Yue at the door, who was just about to enter.
“Oh? Su Xi, what are you doing here?”
Cui Yue was annoyed just by the sight of him. Her undisguised gaze of disgust landed on Su Xi. “This test subject is under the responsibility of Group Three.”
Do you think I want to be here? Su Xi thought, but he didn’t say much to her. He simply said coldly, “Cui Yue, I am technically your superior. Don’t be so out of line.”
“Out of line? Heh, who’s being out of line? You think you’re something special just because you hooked up with Captain Xiao.” Cui Yue recalled the scene of Xiao Yangyao following Su Xi into the lounge and scoffed. “Over the past half-month, plenty of people have reported you for being lax at work and unfit for the institute.”
The original owner had been at the Fluorescent Light Research Institute for a long time. Though reclusive, his work performance had been impeccable; otherwise, he would have been fired long ago due to his “special condition.” Even so, many people in his daily life held a grudge against him.
Take Cui Yue, for example. If he remembered correctly, she had sent chocolates to Xiao Yangyao and invited him to dinner.
So, she views me as a rival? After reaching this conclusion, Su Xi had no intention of arguing. Recalling his purpose for coming, he remained silent for two seconds before turning to leave.
If he wanted to be responsible for A04, he had to apply to his superiors. His most important subject right now was S007 Mephisto. He already spent so much energy on him; if he took on more, he might truly be unable to handle it.
“Hey, where are you going?” Cui Yue hadn’t finished her piece. Seeing Su Xi turn to leave, she frowned and tried to block him, but before she could, her assistant urged her to enter the room.
Walking down the wide corridor, Su Xi felt a sense of unease. He hadn’t gone far when he heard a scream coming from A04’s containment room. Sensing disaster, he rushed back and swiped his ID card. Inside the massive room, several people were lying on the floor, all pale-faced with purple lips clearly poisoned. Cui Yue was among them.
Su Xi looked up at the culprit. A04’s lips were curved in a smirk as he leaned lazily against the platform, seemingly satisfied with the scene. His eyes were full of malice, and numerous deep blue tentacles writhed behind him.
Su Xi’s first instinct was to press the emergency button. But before he could reach the red button on the console, the door behind him slammed shut with a bang. He felt his heart race as his body was suddenly suspended in the air and pulled directly in front of A04.
A04 looked down at Su Xi. The bulky black robe hid the scene beneath it. Tentacles wound wantonly around his warm, silky skin, lingering ambiguously at his waist. Su Xi tried to break free, but his wrists were bound and he couldn’t move.
“You’re already here, so why think about leaving?” A04 scoffed. His hot gaze landed undisguised on Su Xi’s features. He pinned the boy’s wrists and pushed him against the wall.
“Let go first.” Su Xi glanced at his colleagues lying on the floor, their lives uncertain, and tried to communicate. But before he could speak, a tentacle suddenly appeared before his eyes, looking eager to touch his face.
A04 pinched Su Xi’s chin and stroked it carefully, the possessiveness in his eyes nearly overflowing. “The words I said to you last time it seems you didn’t take them to heart.”
Su Xi’s eyelashes trembled violently. He lowered his eyes, unwilling to look at the man.
“Look at me.” A04 cupped the boy’s face with both hands, his voice carrying a hint of a threat. “If you don’t want them to get hurt, be obedient.”
Su Xi’s face remained expressionless, but a storm was raging in his heart. This A04 is supposed to be the protagonist? Isn’t this exactly the kind of thing a villain would do?
“I understand,” he compromised after a long pause. “I’ll explain this situation. Let me go first.”
Countless tentacles were pressed against his exposed skin. He felt an uncontrollable urge to be close to the man, but his clear rationality told him he couldn’t yet. Hearing this, A04 still didn’t let go. He leaned down into the boy’s neck to take a sniff. That long-coveted, delicate fragrance smoothed over the irritability in his heart.
He felt the slight shivering of the person in his arms. Looking down, he saw the boy’s jade-like face was flushed, his clear eyes filled with a misty gaze, and his crimson lips were shimmering like jelly.
“I heard what you guys said,” A04 blurted out.
Su Xi’s consciousness was muddled. He blinked in confusion and grabbed A04’s hand, his tone pleading, “Let me go first, I feel so miserable…”
A04 didn’t know why Su Xi had suddenly become so strange. He only knew the boy didn’t seem to like his tentacles. But they’re all so cute, and they haven’t done anything bad, why is he so cold to me?
“No,” he refused. He controlled a tentacle to lift the boy’s black robe slightly, revealing skin that had been rubbed red. The slimy liquid shimmered, and a decadent, vivid atmosphere permeated the air.
Su Xi took deep breaths, trying to alleviate the abnormality in his body. For the past few days, he had handled his symptoms alone; being suddenly this close to someone caused his consciousness to blur.
He bit his lip, stayed silent for a moment, then proactively leaned in, whispering bewitchingly, “I don’t like these things. Tuck them away, okay?”
A04’s breath hitched, and a hint of scarlet entered his eyes. He released the tentacles binding the boy’s wrists. Lacking support, Su Xi stumbled into his embrace, his hands shaking uncontrollably as he grabbed the man as if his strength had vanished instantly after extreme exhaustion.
A bit strange… A04 sensed Su Xi was suffering from some abnormality, but clearly, he didn’t care right now.
“So fragrant…” A04 smelled the increasingly rich orchid fragrance in the air. His hand on the boy’s waist tightened, and he leaned down to bite the fragile skin of his neck.
Su Xi let out a cry of pain but allowed the man to lick the skin of his neck. With the psychological abnormality receiving a brief comfort, he was willing to give A04 some minor intimacy. Leaning in the man’s arms, he intended to leave once he felt it was enough.
But for A04, a mere taste was clearly not enough. His hand landed on the boy’s shimmering red lips, his rough thumb lightly brushing the surface. He attempted to slide his fingers inside to stir things up.
Su Xi sensed the intent. A trace of haste flashed across his exquisite face as he turned his head to avoid A04’s reaching hand.
