- Chapter 70 - The Cultivator and the Sea Demon
Seeing the disappointed expressions on everyone’s faces, Ye Zhixia was also somewhat puzzled.
Yuntai Zhenren was clearly also a mission executor, an existence transcending this minor world. She should have been well aware that everything in this world was fictional.
Ye Zhixia stared at Yuntai Zhenren’s face, trying to find any clues in her expression.
Yet Yuntai Zhenren still wore an utterly disappointed look, not at all like she was pretending.
She turned her gaze to Ruan Ning, who was sitting on the bed. Ruan Ning also looked at everyone with confusion and asked, “Aside from being the Third Dragon Princess, does Xiaxia have another identity?”
No one answered. Xu Sui didn’t know the specifics either and scratched her head in bewilderment.
In a daze, Ye Zhixia recalled the River of Time from her dream and the Goddess of Wuliang Mountain within it.
A sudden realization struck her. She turned to Yuntai Zhenren again and asked, “Could it be that the reincarnation of the Goddess of Wuliang Mountain was reborn as the Third Dragon Princess?”
Zixia Zhenren and Yuntai Zhenren’s eyes instantly lit up as they looked at Ye Zhixia.
Ye Zhixia quietly whispered to Yuntai Zhenren, “The script of this world is truly full of twists and turns.”
Yuntai Zhenren’s previously glowing eyes dimmed again. She turned to Zixia Zhenren and said, “She’s remembered some things, but not everything.”
Hearing this, Ye Zhixia was even more perplexed.
Zixia Zhenren calmly bit her lip and asked Ye Zhixia in a gentle tone, “If you’ve remembered that you are the Goddess, can you now use her divine power?”
Ye Zhixia suddenly felt as though none of this was real.
Given the current situation, Yuntai Zhenren seemed desperate for her to recall her identity as the Goddess of Wuliang Mountain. But in this minor world, identities were merely settings ultimately, it was still up to the mission executor to resolve the issues.
Zixia Zhenren appeared to be just as informed about the whole situation as Yuntai Zhenren.
Not wanting to worry everyone, Ye Zhixia could only feign certainty. “I know I am the Goddess of Wuliang Mountain, but I haven’t regained my divine power yet.”
Zixia Zhenren, Yuntai Zhenren, Bai Li Xin’er, and A’Yu all wore solemn expressions, showing no joy at her confirmation.
Ye Zhixia sighed helplessly. She had done her best to satisfy everyone, yet they all looked disappointed.
Resigned, she adjusted her sleeves and then approached the bed where Ruan Ning sat. Sitting down, she took Ruan Ning’s hand, unsure of what to say.
The air in the room seemed to freeze. Everyone remained silent, and the atmosphere grew awkward.
Suddenly, an aged yet vigorous voice rang out from outside.
The voice was full of energy: “Hand over my Third Dragon Princess!”
Xu Sui was the first to recognize the speaker as the Old Dragon King. She darted out of the room to investigate.
After all, now that the demon core of Ruan Ning was no longer inside her, her lifespan was vastly different from that of a demon. There was no way the Old Dragon King could capture her again to impersonate the Dragon Princess.
The rest of the group followed, stepping out of the room and into the front courtyard to meet the Dragon King.
As she walked toward the Dragon King, Yuntai Zhenren declared righteously, lying through her teeth: “Your Third Dragon Princess was lost long ago by you. How could she possibly be here?!”
Ye Zhixia, holding Ruan Ning, trailed behind, listening to their argument with the Old Dragon King.
She heard the Old Dragon King retort angrily, “Hmph! The day Xuantian Sect came here, I faintly sensed a trace of dragon spiritual energy passing by.”
Bai Li Xin’er lowered her gaze in thought, perhaps the explosive surge of spiritual energy had been too strong, causing some of it to leak out.
Then, with a sidelong glance at the crowd, his eyes filled with suspicion, he rebuked, “Recently, I heard that you all have imprisoned those immortals, and my Long San must also be in your hands. You must have some ulterior motive!”
No sooner had he spoken than the old Dragon King suddenly raised his hand, summoning storm clouds, as if preparing to battle the Qiyan Sect.
Before anyone else could speak, Xu Sui snapped impatiently, “You old fool, blind to reason, unscrupulous, and utterly ungrateful!”
The Dragon King narrowed his eyes and saw that the one standing at the far left, berating him, was the little girl they had captured earlier.
Recalling his earlier actions, he was instantly overcome with shame and fury, ready to strike.
Yuntai Zhenren, worried about the plants and structures of his sect, hastily pulled out a long-distance Myriad Illusion Mirror.
Holding the mirror toward the Dragon King, it displayed a scene from the prison cells. Sternly, he declared, “The ones who truly kidnapped your Long San are the Xuantian Sect. If you don’t believe me, look who is this?”
The Dragon King, seeing the legendary Myriad Illusion Mirror for the first time, curiously leaned in to examine it.
When he saw the face in the mirror, a hazy memory from three hundred years ago suddenly flooded his mind. “This is… Immortal Chenji?”
Realizing he now understood the truth, Yuntai Zhenren swiftly withdrew the mirror, a faint smile playing on his lips. “He’s no immortal, he’s the sect leader of Xuantian Sect. Back then, he simply used a deception spell to trick you into abandoning your daughter.”
Xu Sui darted forward, stopping right in front of the Dragon King, and explained in detail, “Princess Long San was imprisoned in Xuantian Sect for nearly three hundred years. We only just rescued her a few days ago.”
At the word “rescued,” the Dragon King’s expression shifted abruptly, and in that moment, he withdrew his spiritual energy.
The dark clouds in the sky dispersed, sunlight once again spilling onto the ground. The Dragon King’s earlier aggression had vanished.
Staggering two steps toward Yuntai Zhenren, his hands trembling, he still spoke with a domineering tone, “Where is my Long San? Tell me now!”
“Stop shouting,” Ye Zhixia said, handing Ruan Ning over to Bai Li Xin’er for care before stepping forward to address the Dragon King. “I’m right here.”
The Dragon King looked at Ye Zhixia but didn’t grow angry, only impatient. “Girl, don’t interrupt. I want my real daughter, not some imposter.”
Ye Zhixia had no intention of explaining further, but given the circumstances, she had no choice.
As for this so-called father, she had no desire to acknowledge him at all. Her tone was laced with irritation. “I am your biological daughter.”
The Dragon King still refused to believe it. He had once probed Ye Zhixia’s inner energy and found her to be nothing more than a sword cultivator without spiritual power.
Under normal circumstances, he would have loudly scolded her for “falsely claiming kinship.” But now, with his daughter in the hands of these people, he had no choice but to suppress his temper and speak gently, “I was rude earlier, young lady, but please don’t deceive me.”
Xu Sui was even more anxious than Ye Zhixia. She jumped up and pointed at her, exclaiming to the Dragon King, “She really is Princess Long San!”
Without another word, Ye Zhixia unleashed her spiritual energy.
Bathed in this familiar yet foreign aura, the Dragon King seemed to witness a miracle. “You… you really are my Long San?”
Xu Sui patted Ye Zhixia’s shoulder with absolute certainty. “Genuine, no substitutes.”
Everyone expected the Dragon King to embrace Ye Zhixia and weep, assuming that a father reunited with his long-lost daughter would naturally indulge in a moment of sorrow.
Instead, the Dragon King simply stepped forward, grabbed Ye Zhixia by the arm, and turned to drag her away, muttering, “Come with me back to the Dragon Palace. You must speak with your mother at once.”
Deep down, the onlookers couldn’t help but feel that the old Dragon King didn’t seem to miss his daughter at all. Finding her appeared more like a task to appease the Dragon Queen.
Purple Mist Zhenren swiftly intervened. She took two steps forward, seizing Ye Zhixia’s other arm, and said coldly, “No. She must remain at Qiyan Sect. There are still duties awaiting her.”
Having found his daughter, the Dragon King reverted to his usual haughty demeanor.
“My daughter, the heir of the East Sea Dragon King, cannot be held captive here!” With a flick of his sleeve, he attempted to repel Purple Mist Zhenren using spiritual energy.
Yet Purple Mist Zhenren stood unshaken, her expression unreadable, her grip on Ye Zhixia unwavering.
The Dragon King tried again, channeling his spiritual power to force her away.
Purple Mist Zhenren remained silent, watching calmly as the Dragon King exerted himself in vain.
Releasing Ye Zhixia, the Dragon King summoned storm clouds once more, preparing to take her by force.
But the dark clouds that gathered overhead dispersed just as quickly.
The Dragon King was stunned. Could Purple Mist Zhenren also command the weather?
A high-pitched whirring echoed from the sky, and even the most powerful cultivators present sensed something amiss.
“Has he arrived?” The usually taciturn A’Yu was the first to speak. “That traitor.”
Golden rays shot through the heavens as a figure clad in an ethereal, pale-yellow robe descended gracefully upon auspicious clouds.
The Dragon King reacted swiftly, probing the man’s spiritual energy.
Unfathomable! Worse yet, during his inspection, the Dragon King felt his own spiritual power being siphoned away, a phenomenon that only occurred when facing an overwhelmingly superior opponent.
“The Dragon King of the East Sea pays his respects to the Venerable One!” The Dragon King clasped his hands in deference, his demeanor instantly reverent.
Xu Sui muttered under his breath, “What a performer. Three faces in such a short time?”
Though the Dragon King heard the remark, he dared not act arrogantly in the presence of such power, nor could he assert his authority as the Dragon King.
More importantly, he had no idea whether this Venerable One had come to aid Qiyan Sect.
The man in yellow hovered ten meters away, his robes fluttering as if he existed in a world apart. His serene smile never wavered as he spoke.
“Purple Mist Zhenren and Cloud Terrace Zhenren, correct? Why have you detained a disciple of Xuantian Sect? I’ve received numerous complaints against you.”
Standing rigidly further back, Baili Xin’er responded icily to the man’s accusation, “Wearing the same color as the Divine Maiden doesn’t make you the ruler of this world.”
Unfazed, the man replied in a sharp, lilting voice, “I am but an agent chosen by the immortals to oversee the three realms in the Divine Maiden’s stead. This is merely routine business. Why such hostility, little rose?”
The term “little rose” made Baili Xin’er’s skin crawl. She frowned slightly, refusing to engage further.
Purple Mist Zhenren and Cloud Terrace Zhenren remained silent, their gazes fixed on the uninvited guest.
Neither side made any further moves, yet the tense atmosphere of drawn swords and nocked arrows lingered within the Qiyuan Sect.
The Dragon King could sense the hostility between the two factions. Although he had always resided in the sea, he had heard whispers about the change in the celestial realm’s overseer. The one who had replaced the Goddess in overseeing the mortal world was none other than the Venerable Unhindered Form, hailed as the most powerful of the Primordial Deities.
Since this was a conflict between the Qiyuan Sect and the Venerable Unhindered Form, it surely had nothing to do with the East Sea, the Dragon King thought to himself. Then, in a moment of self-assured cleverness, he bowed and requested, “If the Venerable One has no further orders, this humble one shall take his daughter back to the sea.”
The Dragon King assumed the Venerable One would surely let them depart, father and daughter. To his surprise, the ever-smiling face of the Venerable Unhindered Form suddenly turned stern as he pointed at Ye Zhixia and bellowed, “Evil dragon! You shall not escape today!”
The Dragon King paled in shock, retreating two steps behind Ye Zhixia and the Purple Dawn True Person before cautiously protesting, “Venerable One, please discern the truth! This is merely my daughter, no evil dragon!”
Ye Zhixia glanced back at the Dragon King, unable to conceal the disdain in her eyes.
