The Popular Darling Says She’s Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 32
“I couldn’t exactly just let Seraphina get hit, could I?”
Xia Te looked at her, her heart filled with suspicion.
Wen Shiyu was willing to risk her life to save Seraphina, and she was willing to cooperate with them to make Seraphina hate her—all just so Seraphina could recover from her pseudocyesis.
What exactly was her motive?
“No one saves someone else for absolutely no reason…”
Wen Shiyu didn’t know why she was obsessing over this. She just treated it as Xia Te chatting with her to distract her from the pain.
“Sure they do. Doctors, police, firefighters…”
Xia Te leaned in dissatisfactorily and interrupted her, “But you aren’t one…!”
Wen Shiyu felt helpless.
“Seraphina isn’t exactly a stranger, either.”
Xia Te watched her suspiciously. “What if it hadn’t been Seraphina?”
Wen Shiyu thought about it. If someone else needed help.
“I would try my best. For example, a child or an elderly person.”
Any normal person would.
Wen Shiyu said casually, “If you were in danger, I would try my best to save you, too.”
To her surprise, Xia Te pulled a secret face, clearly not believing a word of it.
Xia Te’s family worshipped freedom and egoism; suspicion was etched into her very bones.
After her parents gave birth to her, they didn’t mistreat her, but they rarely looked after her personally. There were only occasional whims of teasing, and they would even tell her that unconditional love didn’t exist in this world.
All the nannies who looked after her were just part of a rotating job.
From a young age, she had learned how to precisely manipulate her status as a young lady to trade for the attention and resources she wanted.
In her past perception, throughout her monotonous childhood, the only person who seemed to give her pure, unconditional warmth was Seraphina.
And Wen Shiyu… was like a book written in a foreign language; she couldn’t read her at all.
She knitted her brows slightly, inwardly disdaining and denying the truth of Wen Shiyu’s words, yet she couldn’t help but begin to observe the other woman more closely.
She wanted to study Wen Shiyu thoroughly, to peel back that seemingly harmless disguise layer by layer, and expose the ugly truth that must surely exist underneath.
Then, she would know how to make this hypocritical person reveal her true colors, how to make her fall in love with her, and then have her be utterly loathed by Seraphina.
Yes, that was it. Xia Te made her decision.
At Seraphina’s request, the private jet arrived at the island that very night.
Wen Shiyu didn’t even dare to imagine if any civil aviation flights had to make way or were delayed because of this…
Actually, she felt like sitting in a wheelchair would have been fine.
But Seraphina insisted she stay on a stretcher the whole time while being carried onto the plane, which made Wen Shiyu’s face turn a bit red.
It was only after she was safely transferred to the sleeping cabin on the plane that Wen Shiyu breathed a sigh of relief.
After a while, Seraphina actually walked in as well, sat down in the fixed seat next to her bed, and buckled her seatbelt. She looked like she was going to take off right there with her.
Wen Shiyu looked at her in surprise.
Seraphina noticed her gaze. “What is it? How could you be alone?”
Ah, Seraphina… was going to take care of her personally?
Wen Shiyu kept staring at her, and Seraphina blinked, seemingly misunderstanding again.
She reached out, gently took Wen Shiyu’s hand, and coaxed her with a hint of helplessness.
“We’re taking off soon,” she leaned in, the tips of her ears turning a bit red.
“Once we’ve leveled out, I’ll hold you again.”
Seraphina felt that her pheromones could serve as a sedative and painkiller. That was why she had been holding her before they got on the plane, too.
Wen Shiyu’s face heated up slightly. That wasn’t what she meant.
But looking at Seraphina’s quiet, beautiful profile as she waited for takeoff, she couldn’t say anything.
It turned out… when one was sick or injured, Seraphina really did become much gentler.
This tenderness didn’t seem to stem entirely from the fact that she had saved her; it was more like an innate pity and protective instinct toward the weak.
Although Xia Te’s comment that “Seraphina likes patients the most” was an obvious exaggeration, looking at it now, it seemed… to make some sense.
Once the plane leveled out after climbing, Seraphina indeed unbuckled her seatbelt, carefully lay down on her side next to Wen Shiyu, and gently pulled her into her arms.
Wen Shiyu could feel Seraphina’s long golden hair brushing against her ear. She could also smell the faint fragrance on her body.
Seraphina even unconsciously patted her gently, like one would soothe a child. Even though it had no physical effect, she continued to release those mild pheromones.
Wen Shiyu felt somewhat overwhelmed by the favor and also a bit curious.
In the silence, she suddenly asked softly, “Did you… ever have a younger sister?”
Seraphina’s gentle patting motion stopped slightly.
“Who told you?”
Wen Shiyu hesitated for a moment and didn’t answer immediately.
Seraphina pursed her lips; it could only have been Su Yan or Xia Te. It didn’t matter, anyway.
Silence spread in the cabin for a moment before Seraphina finally nodded.
“Yes, I had a younger sister.”
Seraphina’s voice was very light. “She… passed away when she was very small.”
She paused for a long while before speaking again.
“When we were little, if someone said the two of us looked alike… my sister would be especially happy, because she thought her big sister was the most beautiful person in the world.”
Seraphina seemed to give a very faint smile, but unfortunately, that smile vanished in an instant.
“But very soon, she was diagnosed… with a serious hereditary disease. Not long after she learned to walk, she could never stand up again. All the muscles in her body slowly withered, and her face…”
She couldn’t go on.
After a while, she spoke again. “In the beginning, when no one was around, my sister would always grab my sleeve and cry quietly, saying ‘Sister, I don’t want to die,’ ‘Sister, it hurts so much’…”
“Later… she became so thin she was just a tiny handful. I could easily pick her up.”
Seraphina’s speaking speed was very slow, like she was uncovering a long-buried scar bit by bit.
“One time, I carried her past a mirror. She saw herself in the mirror, and then she saw me…”
“That was the first time she told me: ‘Sister, I don’t want to live anymore.'”
“When she left… she was only that tiny bit. She cried saying she wanted to see Mom and Dad. But she was unwilling to see me again.”
“I know why. Because even though we were sisters… she left in such pain. Yet I grew up healthy. So I always wondered…”
“Why… couldn’t the unhealthy one have been me?”
“Seraphina.”
Wen Shiyu’s heart tightened, and she squeezed Seraphina’s hand hard.
Seraphina turned her head to look at her, as if waking up from a nightmare.
She smiled faintly. “Don’t worry, I’m not that sad anymore. I still have so many things I want to do.”
“It’s just… seeing a sick child still makes me very sad.”
As she spoke, she subconsciously patted Wen Shiyu gently again.
Wen Shiyu’s face turned even redder. She wasn’t…
But Seraphina continued, her voice low yet firm: “And the baby this time… I don’t want to give up, either.”
Because this child was destined to be imperfect and wouldn’t be liked by others. She existed as an unfortunate accident.
Yet, that made her even more unable to let go.
Seraphina gently pressed her own small belly, her tone carrying a kind of gentle obsession, “Even if everyone doesn’t think well of her, doesn’t like her… I will make sure she grows up healthy and happy.”
Wen Shiyu’s heart jolted.
But this “child”… wasn’t real.
She began to feel a bit distressed. She opened her mouth, but didn’t know how to speak.
Seraphina, however, suddenly lowered her head and kissed her.
Wen Shiyu was a bit surprised.
Seraphina pulled back slightly, her expression carrying a bit of embarrassment, and she intentionally pulled a stern face. “Of course, this doesn’t mean I’ve forgiven you for the terrible things you did to me.”
She paused, her voice becoming even softer.
“It’s just because there haven’t been any pheromones all day today. Knowing you’re injured, so… it’s just a kiss.”
Wen Shiyu was a bit dazed.
This was the first time Seraphina had opened her heart to her, seriously explaining why she was so obsessed with this child.
A wave of complex emotions surged in Wen Shiyu’s heart, and she could only close her eyes, clumsily and cooperatively responding to the kiss.
However, Seraphina held her face and kissed her for a long time without any intention of letting go.
The kiss gradually deepened, changing from gentle to somewhat…
Wen Shiyu was breathless and turned her head slightly, asking softly.
“Are you… feeling uncomfortable now?”
She was referring to whether Seraphina was suffering from painful nausea again due to the lack of pheromones.
But a red flush flew across Seraphina’s face.
…She had been a bit angry with Wen Shiyu the past few days, so she hadn’t taken the initiative to find her. Wen Shiyu, that idiot… also never knew how to proactively come and help relieve her worries.
So… maybe she was a tiny bit lacking in pheromones.
But Wen Shiyu was injured now! How could she have the nerve to…
As if to hide her shyness, Seraphina said quickly, “No. Let’s sleep, we’ll be home when we wake up.”
Then she closed her eyes, putting on an act of wanting to sleep.
Wen Shiyu had no choice but to obediently close her eyes as well.
However, Seraphina continued to hold her amidst the low, slight hum of the airplane. At first, she just patted her gently, but gradually, her arms tightened more and more, and her whole body pressed up against her, burying her cheek in the crook of Wen Shiyu’s neck.
Wen Shiyu could feel that her entire face was hot, and her breathing was becoming somewhat unsteady.
So… she was still very uncomfortable, right?
This was no way to go on.
Wen Shiyu opened her eyes and turned her head slightly, happening to meet Seraphina’s close-up gaze.
Those beautiful amber eyes were bright in the darkness, like they were filled with starlight, yet also carrying a hint of uncontrollable…
Wen Shiyu hesitated for a moment and said in a low voice: “Actually… I’ve taken painkillers, I feel okay now.”
She paused, her voice even softer, “And this injury… won’t get better in just a short while.”
Unless Seraphina could recover directly from the pseudocyesis, otherwise, what were they going to do during this period?
Seraphina realized her little thoughts had been seen through. She buried her burning cheeks into the soft blanket with some embarrassment, and it was quite a while before she spoke in a muffled voice.
“No, it’s not good, you’re injured…”
Wen Shiyu didn’t speak, just quietly watched her.
Seraphina stifled herself in the blanket for a while, her entire neck turning so red it looked like it was about to smoke. Finally, she slowly, bit by bit, lifted her head, her eyes watery, her voice so small it was almost inaudible.
“Then…”
“You… you don’t have to move…”
Wen Shiyu was stunned for a moment, not fully understanding her meaning at first. Not until Seraphina, in the darkness, extremely slowly… so ashamed she almost curled up into a ball, moved in front of Wen Shiyu.
Wen Shiyu’s eyes widened slightly in surprise.
Seraphina couldn’t cover her face, so she could only instinctively press her knees together. Trembling slightly…
“Hurry, hurry up…”
It was a bit tiring like this…
Later, Seraphina must have indeed been tired, or perhaps she simply couldn’t hold on anymore.
That wasn’t really anything, it was just that it was a bit hard for Wen Shiyu to breathe…
She could only pat Seraphina.
Only then did Seraphina get up apologetically, and then with difficulty, and in another embarrassing way, raised herself up.
The rabbit tail held high quivered incessantly in Wen Shiyu’s hand.
….
The next day, Wen Shiyu was sent to a private hospital contacted by Seraphina, where she underwent a comprehensive and detailed examination.
Fortunately, aside from the bone crack in her leg, there were no other hidden injuries. After receiving the necessary vaccinations and ruling out the hidden dangers of viruses that wild animals might carry, the doctor confirmed she just needed to rest well.
She would probably recover in a month or two.
Only then did Seraphina breathe a complete sigh of relief.
Because school was starting soon, Seraphina told Wen Shiyu to just stay in the hospital for now. They would wait until school started to talk about it.
A few days later, Xia Te found Su Yan with a face full of dissatisfaction.
“Seraphina is nowhere to be seen again; she must have sneaked off to the hospital to see Wen Shiyu!”
Su Yan looked up, not picking up on her words, but instead frowning slightly: “Your face… why is it painted like a mess?”
“What do you mean ‘painted like a mess’?”
Xia Te’s eyes widened, “This is called makeup, makeup! This is a look I meticulously created.”
Su Yan was silent for a while.
“And what is this you’re wearing?”
“A beautiful new dress, of course.”
Su Yan was even more silent. Xia Te’s makeup was done very poorly, making her look much uglier than she did without it. The dress wasn’t nice either; it might have been meant to be a sexy style, but on her, it looked far too mature.
She finally gave an honest evaluation.
“It doesn’t suit you.”
“What do you mean it doesn’t suit me?” Xia Te snapped, “I’m naturally exquisite; I clearly look good in anything!”
She had specially dressed up today. She had even worked hard to pad her chest to match the dress…
Xia Te adjusted it with some self-consciousness. She blushed slightly.
Though, there still wasn’t much there.
Looking at Su Yan’s somewhat disgusted face, she immediately got angry: “Besides, I’m still working hard to break those two up! What about you, are you just giving up like this?”
Su Yan lowered her head, looking at her fingertips, and now she didn’t speak.
“Coward.” Xia Te snorted, lifting her chin, “I’m going to go find Wen Shiyu right now.”
Su Yan looked up: “What do you want to do now?”
“Of course it’s…” Xia Te blinked, intentionally drawing out her tone with a bit of spite and a refusal to lose, “to make Wen Shiyu fall in love with me. This play has to have someone acting a bit more realistically, right?”
Su Yan looked at her in surprise, then pressed a hand to her forehead, “You…”
At the end, her voice was very low. “You’re dreaming quite a bit…”
