The Popular Darling Says She’s Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 30
Ever since Xia Te learned from Su Yan that she had accidentally made Seraphina believe Wen Shiyu liked her, she had been feeling a bit of a breakdown.
For several days, she watched helplessly as Seraphina and Wen Shiyu were always huddled together, their heads touching as they looked at the same tablet. It got to the point where there was no space left for her by Seraphina’s side.
Xia Te’s inner anxiety and dissatisfaction grew increasingly intense, like being repeatedly scratched by a kitten’s claws.
Today, she finally couldn’t hold it back anymore. She sent several messages in a row to Wen Shiyu, urging her to come to Su Yan’s room immediately for a secret strategic meeting.
When Wen Shiyu quietly slipped away, she found that Su Yan and Xia Te were already waiting there.
The heavy curtains in the room were drawn tight. The three of them didn’t even dare to turn on the lights, so they sat in a circle by Su Yan’s bed, whispering their conspiracy in low voices.
Xia Te’s expression carried the momentum of someone who had burned her bridges: “Conventional methods have been declared a failure. Now… I can only bring out the dark schemes I’ve kept at the bottom of my trunk!”
Su Yan: “…You certainly have a high degree of self-awareness regarding your own reputation.”
“Humph,” Xia Te ignored her jab and turned to Wen Shiyu, speaking rapidly. “Listen, Wen Shiyu, Su Yan—the two of you start pretending to have an affair right now!”
“Huh?” Wen Shiyu was stunned, nearly losing control of her volume. “What?”
“Think about it,” Xia Te leaned in, gesturing with her fingers. “Seraphina doesn’t think you’re approaching her for power anymore; instead, she thinks you might like her. To break that perception, you first have to show that you don’t like her.
How could a truly power-hungry, low-character person fixate on only one target? Naturally, they would want them all! That is the kind of low-class behavior that is most contemptible!”
Wen Shiyu’s eyes widened.
That was indeed sufficiently low.
“But this way… won’t Seraphina also get angry at Su Yan?”
“It doesn’t matter!” Xia Te immediately answered for Su Yan. “Su Yan won’t mind, right?”
Su Yan: “…”
Wen Shiyu remembered how Seraphina had been quite unhappy before just because Su Yan took her surfing; she really didn’t want to involve Su Yan again.
“I still feel it’s not quite right…”
Xia Te hadn’t expected Wen Shiyu to be so loyal at a time like this. Her eyes darted around. “Then… just pretend you are forcing yourself on Su Yan! That way, the responsibility is entirely on you!”
Wen Shiyu was even more shocked: “Huh?”
Forcing herself on Su Yan?
Her? As if!
How could that be possible?
Xia Te laughed instead, with a hint of mischievous playfulness. “It’s fine. Although Su Yan is very strong, she is very obedient in front of the person she likes and won’t resist. Right, Su Yan?”
Su Yan’s earlobes seemed to turn red in the darkness. She turned her face away. “…What on earth are you talking about?”
“Just say it—if Wen Shiyu pins you down, is it okay or not?” Xia Te pressed her step by step.
Su Yan tilted her head, covering her face in embarrassment the whole time. She didn’t speak.
Xia Te had long since had her suspicions. Su Yan claimed to have liked Seraphina for so many years, yet she had never engaged in any intimacy with Seraphina that crossed the boundaries.
No matter how disciplined an Alpha was, it was impossible to remain such a gentleman forever when facing someone they truly loved.
Su Yan herself probably didn’t realize that in her bones… perhaps she was suited to be the ‘receiver’ and didn’t really buy into the traditional Alpha-Omega dynamic.
She turned triumphantly to Wen Shiyu: “See, Su Yan didn’t say no.”
Wen Shiyu: “…” What could silence possibly represent!
“What’s wrong? What is there to hesitate about? Do you want to hinder Seraphina’s recovery?” Xia Te urged.
Wen Shiyu really didn’t know what to say. The only thing she could be sure of was that once this trick was used, Seraphina would indeed be angry. But…
“I can’t actually do anything with Su Yan…”
Xia Te said immediately, “At least put on a show. I’ll secretly… take some videos here and then go to Seraphina to expose you!”
She thought for a moment and then changed her mind. “No, I feel like you two don’t have the acting skills for that. Let’s take photos instead; stills are easier to manage.”
Thus, under Xia Te’s command, Wen Shiyu and Su Yan could only sit stiffly by the bed, facing each other with an atmosphere so awkward you could wring water out of it.
Xia Te held up her phone, lurking sneakily at the door to find an angle, whispering directions: “Get a little closer! Yes, Wen Shiyu, turn your body slightly to the side, block Su Yan a bit…
No, uh, take off your coat, make it look real.
Yes, yes. Su Yan, why are you looking at the floor? Look at Wen Shiyu! Don’t be so stiff!”
Wen Shiyu felt sweat breaking out on her forehead. She bit the bullet and took off her coat, then moved a bit closer toward Su Yan.
Because she didn’t want to actually touch Su Yan, she could only do her best to support herself with her arms.
Su Yan also seemed to be blushing, her body slightly tensed; she clearly looked like she didn’t know how to cooperate with such a scene.
But because Wen Shiyu had unbuttoned her coat, Su Yan subconsciously kept staring at her, her gaze focused.
Just then.
“Wen Shiyu? Su Yan? Xia Te?”
Seraphina’s voice came from the hallway, laced with confusion.
She had walked into the living room and found her three friends nowhere to be seen, so she came looking for them.
Hearing the voice, Wen Shiyu was so startled she jolted, suddenly trying to stand up. As a result, her movements were too frantic, and she fell backward.
“Careful.” Su Yan instinctively reached out to grab her arm.
At the same time, with a click, the door was pushed open from the outside.
Xia Te, who was pressed against the back of the door looking for an angle, was caught off guard. She was pushed lightly by the door panel, let out an “Ouch,” and fell forward. As luck would have it, she fell right on top of Wen Shiyu, who hadn’t fully regained her balance.
The three of them tumbled together instantly.
Seraphina stood at the door, backlit by the hallway lights, seeing the situation in the room clearly.
Her expression became hard to describe in an instant.
“Behind my back… with the lights off… what are you all doing hiding in here?”
Xia Te discovered she had actually fallen on top of Wen Shiyu, whereas Su Yan had a stable core and remained sitting. She was also startled.
She scrambled up in a flurry, waving her hands repeatedly. “Ah! Seraphina! It’s not what you think!”
“…And what am I thinking?” Seraphina crossed her arms and walked in slowly, her gaze sweeping across the faces of the three.
“Are you keeping something from me?” Seraphina’s tone was chilly.
All three felt guilty, stammering and unable to say anything coherent.
Before the meticulously planned scheme could even unfold, they had been caught red-handed by the person involved; this start could be described as disastrously awkward.
“No, we aren’t hiding anything from you!”
Xia Te racked her brains for an explanation. “We turned off the lights because… we were playing a ghost story game! Whoever tells the least scary ghost story has to—has to take off a piece of clothing!”
Seraphina fell silent again.
Xia Te also blushed because of her own nonsense.
Time seemed to stand still, until finally, Seraphina spoke again.
“Playing a game… why didn’t you call me?”
Seraphina still walked in naturally and sat down right between Su Yan and Wen Shiyu as if it were the most logical thing to do.
“Now, whose turn is it to tell a story?” She raised her chin slightly, her gaze sweeping over the three of them.
“…”
And so, this secret meeting inexplicably evolved into four people sitting in a dark room, actually beginning to tell ghost stories.
Xia Te shone the light from her phone upward from her chin, creating eerie shadows, while she racked her brain to make up a story that could actually scare someone.
Wen Shiyu listened half-heartedly, when she suddenly felt her fingertips being lightly touched.
She looked up and found it was Su Yan, who was sitting on the other side of Seraphina. Su Yan’s gaze met hers over Seraphina’s shoulder; her face was hard to see clearly in the dark.
Wen Shiyu was actually a bit unsure if Su Yan had something to say, or if she had touched her by accident and then just kept staring at her.
But if it was an accident, why didn’t she pull her hand back?
Wen Shiyu didn’t quite understand whether Su Yan wanted to continue that ridiculous plan or if there was another meaning.
Just as she was wondering, Seraphina suddenly stood up.
“Su Yan,” her voice was clear. “I want to talk to you alone.”
Xia Te and Wen Shiyu were both startled.
Su Yan glanced at Seraphina, yet she didn’t seem surprised. She stood up silently and followed her out of the room.
The two arrived outside the villa. The courtyard under the moonlight was very quiet, with only the faint sound of waves. Seraphina stopped, turned around, and faced Su Yan.
“Su Yan, we have been friends since we were children. I shouldn’t have… done anything to wrong you, right?”
“No,” Su Yan answered very quickly.
“Then why,” Seraphina stared into her eyes, her tone suppressed with dissatisfaction, “are you always trying to snatch Wen Shiyu away?
Several times, you have deliberately approached her. Just now in the room, although I don’t know what you were doing…
But I smelled that you seemed to release a bit of pheromones. Was it just because Wen Shiyu was close to you?”
Su Yan lowered her head. At first, she wanted to follow Xia Te’s plan and go along with the mistake.
“Seraphina… I just wanted to remind you that Wen Shiyu might not be as harmless as you think. Don’t pour too much unnecessary emotion into her.”
Seraphina frowned, completely refusing to buy it. Even if Wen Shiyu had her little schemes, it didn’t change the fact that Su Yan wanted to get close to her.
Besides, what Su Yan said was very strange; was it that Wen Shiyu was a bad person, and yet Su Yan was still desperately trying to get close to her?
Seraphina’s voice rose slightly.
“My affairs, I will judge for myself.”
“Now we are talking about you. I hope that you, as my friend, can keep a bit of distance from Wen Shiyu. This is basic etiquette as a friend, isn’t it?”
Su Yan looked at Seraphina. Because she was being accused of betraying their friendship, the words she had prepared according to the plan suddenly became hard to say. She was silent for a moment, then replied with some defiance.
“Seraphina, you… won’t be with Wen Shiyu in the future anyway, will you?
So she doesn’t belong to you. Is it really fair for you to demand this?”
“But she is mine right now,” Seraphina countered immediately.
“So you’re saying, after you give birth to the child, it will be okay, right?” Su Yan asked back.
Seraphina was choked up. She opened her mouth; the word “okay” rolled around in her throat, yet she couldn’t spit it out no matter what. In the end, she could only insist with some irritation: “That… that still won’t do!”
Su Yan’s tone also became stiff. “You are being somewhat unreasonable.”
Seraphina looked at Su Yan and bit her lip.
“Su Yan, so you… do you like Wen Shiyu?”
Inside the room, Wen Shiyu and Xia Te were clinging to the window, trying hard to hear the conversation outside, but unfortunately, they couldn’t hear anything.
Xia Te was so anxious she was scratching her head: “What on earth are they talking about? Why did Seraphina suddenly call Su Yan out…?”
“My plan… has died in the cradle just like that.”
Wen Shiyu, however, grew increasingly hesitant about this plan.
The brief close contact just now, combined with Su Yan’s behavior—though Wen Shiyu was slow to catch on—had led her to realize something. Does Su Yan… have a bit of a crush on her?
Knowing that she couldn’t possibly respond, and with the current situation already being messy enough, she didn’t want the other person to develop any unnecessary misunderstandings.
Wen Shiyu hesitantly confessed to Xia Te that she didn’t want to play this scene with Su Yan anymore.
“Ah, then who should we switch to? Who else is here?” Xia Te pointed to herself. “You can’t exactly act it out with me, can you?”
Wen Shiyu tried to suggest: “You are an Omega. Maybe… Seraphina would believe I could force myself on you?”
“What?” Xia Te muttered in protest. “How could someone as smart and clever as me give a dummy like you the chance to succeed?”
Wen Shiyu: “…”
She told her it wouldn’t work!
At this moment, Seraphina and Su Yan returned one after the other. Seraphina’s face had no expression, but the atmospheric pressure around her was clearly low. She walked straight to Wen Shiyu and reached out to pull her up: “Come with me.”
Xia Te was somewhat unwilling and took a step forward: “Seraphina, my ghost story hasn’t finished yet…”
“I have something to say to Wen Shiyu right now; I don’t want to hear stories.” Seraphina interrupted her, hardly even looking at her.
After saying that, she pulled Wen Shiyu and left the room.
Xia Te looked at Seraphina’s back as she left without any lingering attachment, and a heavy sense of loss welled up in her heart.
“Seraphina lied to me.”
She had said she hated Wen Shiyu at the beginning. She clearly said so. As it turns out, that wasn’t the case at all, was it?
Seraphina also said she would always be good to her and would never lie to her!
Su Yan walked back into the room silently. Looking at Xia Te’s appearance, she spoke softly to break her fantasy: “People change, Xia Te. Don’t always hold onto things from when we were kids.”
“Why do they have to change?” Xia Te asked back as if stung, losing her temper slightly. “I haven’t changed!”
The three of them should always be best friends; Seraphina should always favor her.
It was all Wen Shiyu’s fault.
At this moment, her desire to “make Seraphina hate Wen Shiyu” had reached an unprecedented peak. It had even become a bit distorted.
If… if Wen Shiyu really did something to her, Seraphina would surely feel sorry for her and stand on her side, right?
But if such a thing happened suddenly, it would definitely look fake, especially since they had already been caught once.
Unless…
Xia Te thought desperately.
It would be better if Wen Shiyu really liked her.
Wen Shiyu was pulled all the way back to Seraphina’s room. The door closed, isolating them from the outside world. Only then did Seraphina let go, her pale eyes looking at her gloomily.
Wen Shiyu felt a bit guilty and a bit intimidated, swallowing hard.
“Just now, what did you and Su Yan talk about?”
Wen Shiyu still wanted to take the responsibility on herself and tried to explain: “Actually, just now it was me…”
“You?” Seraphina interrupted her. “Could you actually force Su Yan?”
Wen Shiyu: “…”
She told them it wouldn’t work!
Seraphina stepped closer, almost pressing against Wen Shiyu, and suddenly straightened her clothes. She changed the subject, her voice pressed low.
“Don’t you all like hiding together to tell ghost stories? Then I’ll tell you one, too.”
She tilted her head slightly, her golden hair sliding off her shoulder.
“Legend has it that the eldest daughter of the Cavendish family… hates unfaithful servants the most.”
Her fingertip lightly touched Wen Shiyu’s collarbone, sliding slowly up along the line of her neck, bringing a faint shiver.
“If she finds out that some audacious servant dares to go behind her back and follow someone else…”
Her voice was soft and slow, leaning close to Wen Shiyu’s ear.
“…She will take the strongest rope and tie that wicked servant… from head to toe, very carefully.”
“Then, she will lock them away forever and ever in her most remote island, in the deepest, darkest basement. There is no light, no sound, and no food…”
Wen Shiyu was truly startled by her. She had just widened her eyes slightly to look at her.
Seraphina suddenly used a bit of force with her hands, pressing Wen Shiyu down to sit on the edge of the bed.
Seraphina then sat on Wen Shiyu’s lap, her fair and slender arms resting on her shoulders.
The two were extremely close, their breaths audible to each other. Seraphina’s beautiful eyes sparkled in the dim light.
Seeing that Wen Shiyu was scared, she finally curled the corners of her mouth. She seemed somewhat satisfied.
“So, even if others want you,” she said word by word, her breath brushing against Wen Shiyu’s lips. “You cannot make a mistake… if I catch you.”
She reached out her finger and hooked the leather collar around Wen Shiyu’s neck, tugging it gently.
“No matter where you run, I will catch you back. I’ll make you regret it. Do you understand?”
