The Popular Darling Says She’s Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 19
While they were eating late-night snacks, Wen Shiyu was focused on devouring her food, while Su Yan’s gaze kept drifting toward her involuntarily.
Su Yan had never imagined that a day would come when she would be so uncertain about what kind of feelings she harbored for someone.
Thinking carefully, she truly lacked experience in emotional matters. Growing up, she simply took it for granted that she had a responsibility to care for and protect the Omega who belonged to her, and naturally assumed that person was Seraphina.
Consequently, she had never paid attention to other Omegas, let alone a Beta.
However, spending time with Wen Shiyu during this period had made her realize that this person was entirely different—even completely opposite—from the image she had imagined or the one depicted in rumors.
Wen Shiyu wasn’t flamboyant or vain, nor was she sharp-tongued or mean. She was quiet, introverted, and even possessed a kind of… clumsy tenderness.
If that were the case, how could someone like her have done those extreme things mentioned on the forum?
Was it truly as the rumors said? Because she liked me too much?
Whenever this thought surfaced, Su Yan’s heart grew restless.
“What’s wrong?” Wen Shiyu asked, looking up as she finished most of her food.
She noticed Su Yan had hardly touched her chopsticks and had been staring at her instead. Was it because she was eating too much?
Su Yan hesitated for a moment before swallowing the words at the tip of her tongue. “…Nothing.”
At that moment, a waiter approached to inform them the bill had been settled and asked if they would like the complimentary post-meal dessert.
Wen Shiyu’s eyes lit up, and she accepted gladly.
Seeing her eyes brighten over such a small thing, Su Yan’s lips curled up again unconsciously.
This was rare in their social circle. People in their world had long grown accustomed to top-tier service and had almost lost the ability to be surprised by small gestures.
The two rose to leave the restaurant. The night streets had quieted down significantly, with streetlamps stretching their shadows long.
Su Yan attempted to find a topic: “Finals are coming up. If there are any subjects you find difficult, you can ask me. The Honor Class curriculum is… indeed harder.” She paused, then added, “But you must at least ensure you pass; otherwise, you’ll have to retake the course.”
Wen Shiyu was taking small licks of her ice cream cone and nodded at the words. “Oh right, exams are almost here… By the way, roughly what rank in our class do you need to get a scholarship?”
Though Su Yan wanted to encourage her, she had to tell the truth: “With your current grades… it might be quite difficult to get a scholarship.”
Just as she finished speaking, her phone vibrated. Su Yan glanced at it; it was a message from Xia Te asking if she was free to talk about something.
She replied distractedly: [Still out.]
Xia Te replied almost instantly: [You wouldn’t still be with Wen Shiyu, would you?]
Su Yan didn’t answer. At that moment, Wen Shiyu’s voice rang out.
“Haven’t you always told me to study hard? I’ve taken it to heart. Don’t worry, I’ll pass all the exams.”
Is she doing it for me?
This sentence caused Su Yan’s footsteps to falter. Wen Shiyu didn’t notice and kept walking, accidentally bumping right into the suddenly stationary Su Yan.
The ice cream cone in her hand smeared squarely onto Su Yan’s crisp, black trench coat.
“!”
Wen Shiyu hurriedly tried to wipe it off, but unexpectedly, the stain only spread further, leaving a small, messy patch.
“Oh no, take it off quickly.” Wen Shiyu instinctively moved to help her.
The coat was suddenly pulled down from her shoulders. Su Yan was stunned.
Society always defaulted to the Alpha being the dominant, forceful one.
She suddenly thought of the time in the dormitory when Wen Shiyu had controlled her hands from behind, and once again, her ears turned red…
Wen Shiyu instinctively wanted to say “I’ll take it back and wash it for you,” but she immediately realized that their coats likely required professional dry cleaning, and the price would probably be exorbitant.
Wen Shiyu looked up awkwardly at Su Yan. “This… you won’t make me pay for it, will you?”
She was thinking that since Su Yan was going to publicly reject her at the ball anyway, she probably wouldn’t make things difficult for her over such a small matter, right?
Looking at Wen Shiyu’s face, Su Yan answered seriously, “Of course not.”
“Thank you.” Wen Shiyu breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly helped her drape the coat back on.
Su Yan watched her quietly for a moment, then suddenly said in a low voice, “Do you think I’m very fierce? Actually, I’m not that kind of…”
Wen Shiyu interjected half-jokingly, “Last time, you pinned me directly by the neck.”
A flash of embarrassment crossed Su Yan’s face. “I’m sorry. Back then… I misunderstood. I just wanted you to learn a lesson.”
She truly felt that kind of behavior was dangerous, as some Alphas possessed far more aggression than they showed on the surface. But at the same time, she was desperate to clarify that she wasn’t the kind of person with violent tendencies.
“Alright, I know.” Wen Shiyu smiled, seemingly not taking that past conflict to heart.
Su Yan watched her smile, her gaze following her involuntarily.
This feeling of being treated as an equal—of even being somewhat ignored—was very novel to her.
Her phone vibrated again. Xia Te was still pressing: [You really are with Wen Shiyu, aren’t you?]
Su Yan finally replied: [Yes, what about it?]
Xia Te waited a while before replying: [Nothing. I have something to tell you, let’s talk later.]
Su Yan shook her head and ignored her.
Over the next few weeks, Wen Shiyu’s life was packed. During the day, she had to provide “pheromone” soothing for Seraphina, and at night, she had to cooperate with Su Yan to apply pheromones.
As the semester drew to a close, the perfume was nearly “developed.”
Wen Shiyu had to divert some energy toward her studies, hoping to earn some scholarship money.
She needed a backup plan in case the Cavendish family completely discarded her after the perfume was successful.
Perhaps because she was focused on studying, and because she felt her proximity to Seraphina was becoming a bit excessive, Wen Shiyu inevitably seemed a bit dismissive during their recent meetings.
Usually, it was just a kiss. If Seraphina really felt uncomfortable, she would lightly bite the back of her neck again.
By Wen Shiyu’s Earth-born logic, a light bite on the neck should have been a more bounded, less intimate act than a kiss. However, Seraphina’s reaction… was something else entirely.
Every time, Seraphina would quickly turn into a soft puddle, her knees pressing tightly together as she fidgeted. Her rabbit tail would secretly perk up high. Her entire face would turn deep red.
Sometimes she would accidentally let out a small sound and then hurriedly cover her own mouth.
As a result, Wen Shiyu’s own heart would always race, and her ears would burn.
So, she avoided biting whenever possible.
Whenever she did bite, she would sneak away before Seraphina—with her unfocused, dazed eyes—could make further demands.
Because of this, she could feel that Seraphina was clearly unhappy.
But thinking that once the perfume was a success, Seraphina would no longer need her, Wen Shiyu figured the other girl wouldn’t care about these things anymore.
Until one night, her younger sister called excitedly to tell Wen Shiyu that the family’s loan application had been approved, and the economic crisis was temporarily alleviated.
Wen Shiyu then realized that Seraphina had actually tacitly approved the aid for her family.
On the phone, her sister was very happy and said the family would find a way to send her money as soon as possible.
Wen Shiyu quickly refused: “It’s fine. I, uh, found a part-time job, and I can sell some of those old accessories I don’t use.”
Her sister couldn’t believe it: “How can Sister work so hard…”
She insisted on giving her own allowance. Before Wen Shiyu could decline, the phone seemed to be taken by her mother.
Her parents were indeed more perceptive. Her mother asked softly, “Shiyu, have you… reconciled with that young lady from the Cavendish family?”
Wen Shiyu whispered a “Yes.”
Her parents sounded very moved on the other end. Her mother even choked up, repeatedly asking if the Cavendish family had made things difficult for her. Wen Shiyu said they hadn’t. Her father also apologized for losing his temper with her before, mentioning her previous “jumping into the lake out of anger,” his voice full of regret.
Holding the phone, Wen Shiyu felt again that these new family members of hers were quite nice.
The next day, when she saw Seraphina in class, Wen Shiyu wanted to find an opportunity to thank her.
But Seraphina only shot her a glance, frowned, and puffed out her cheeks, looking very unhappy.
Wen Shiyu: …?
Why is she starting to hate me now?
She waited until PE class, when Seraphina, as usual, secretly opened the door to a vacant training room for her.
Wen Shiyu went in, finally getting a chance to be alone with Seraphina.
“Thank you, Seraphina.” Wen Shiyu moved closer to her.
Seraphina took a moment to react, then let out a soft “Hmph” and turned her face away. “Don’t get too smug. You’re still my servant. Your family’s crisis just has a chance of being solved; it’s not completely over yet. You might need more help later. And…”
She paused.
Actually, the idea of Wen Shiyu getting a scholarship through Su Yan was hopeless, but Wen Shiyu didn’t know that yet…
Seraphina’s gaze swept over the unchanging school uniform Wen Shiyu wore and tilted her chin up slightly. “Your living expenses here aren’t enough either, are they?”
Wen Shiyu was stunned. “Are you going to give me money too?”
Seraphina gave her a strange look. “…If you perform well, it’s not impossible. Anyway…”
Anyway, Wen Shiyu can only rely on her.
“Your family has no money left now, right?”
Wen Shiyu: “Um…”
Actually, with the Cavendish family covering her tuition and Wen Shiyu herself having no need for luxury goods, she felt her life was fine. Wearing the uniform every day was just a lack of adaptation to the original host’s overly exquisite style.
But of course, she couldn’t reveal the details of her deal with the Cavendish family, so she just nodded vaguely.
“Yes. I am still your servant.”
She leaned in a bit closer and whispered, “Then… do you need a kiss now?”
Seraphina looked at her, her earlobes suddenly getting a bit hot.
However, she had felt a scent on Wen Shiyu recently that didn’t belong to her.
But every time she asked, Wen Shiyu would play dumb. Later, she got so angry she stopped asking.
Why did that scent… seem to be getting even more obvious?
She turned her face away. “Go take a shower.”
Wen Shiyu was confused. Why take a shower?
“Can I not?”
“No.” Seraphina turned back to glare at her, her cheeks puffing out. “You… you’re smelly.”
“Huh?” Wen Shiyu lifted her arm to sniff; there was clearly no weird smell.
But Seraphina was incredibly insistent. They had been meeting frequently in this secluded gym lately, and there was a simple small shower room nearby. Helpless, Wen Shiyu walked in.
The sound of rushing water began. Waiting outside and getting bored, Seraphina drifted over to the shower door and prodded her through the door just to have something to say: “Use plenty of body wash. Wash thoroughly!”
Wen Shiyu raised her voice over the sound of the water: “What did you say? I can’t hear you.”
Seraphina pursed her lips, leaned close to the door crack, and spoke her mind. “What exactly have you been doing with Su Yan?”
After asking, she suddenly realized that through the side gap, she could actually catch a glimpse of Wen Shiyu inside.
Her face flushed instantly.
Seraphina’s instinct was to look away, but her heart started thumping wildly. After hesitating for a few seconds, her face red and ears burning, she quietly pressed closer to that gap.
The simple shower room only used a shower curtain as a screen. From this angle, she could see almost the entire silhouette of Wen Shiyu’s back.
Her wet long hair was loosely tied up. Her slender shoulder blades rose and fell slightly with her movements. Water snaked down her smooth spine, disappearing into her waist…
Seraphina unconsciously held her breath, her eyes widening. Without even realizing it, she just stood there staring blankly.
When Wen Shiyu came out drying her hair, she found Seraphina’s face bright red, looking like a ripe tomato.
“What’s wrong?” She was bewildered.
Droplets of water still clung to the tips of Wen Shiyu’s hair. Her face, steamed by the hot air, was fair and moist, and her eyes appeared exceptionally clear.
Seraphina looked at her, her legs pressed together, saying nothing.
Wen Shiyu had no choice but to take the initiative. “Now… can we kiss?”
Seraphina lowered her head, revealing red ears, and actually nodded—a rare moment of initiative.
Wen Shiyu leaned down and kissed her. Seraphina’s eyelashes trembled, and she immediately reached out to wrap her arms around Wen Shiyu’s waist, responding with an almost urgent intensity.
Wen Shiyu was confused.
Eh? How did she… suddenly stop being angry?
