The Pitiful Guy I Saved Is a Possessive Big Shot - Chapter 6
Is his hand okay?
Shi Qingning didn’t understand at first. Once he realized what was meant, he felt both angry and amused.
Was his hand the main point?
“The one who needs to go to the hospital isn’t your hand or at least, not only your hand,” Shi Qingning said. “Are you hurt anywhere else?”
Bai Yexi was silent. He seemed to think for a moment before answering.
“I didn’t notice.”
“…”
So, he only noticed his hands?
Shi Qingning felt speechless and his emotions became complicated. He didn’t expect a casual compliment would make the boy care so much. Bai Yexi didn’t know how to protect himself, yet he held Shi Qingning’s words so deeply in his heart.
A story’s brief description is never as vivid as reality. The Bai Yexi standing before him wasn’t some invincible, all-powerful main character. He was just a child who lacked love, someone who had suffered too much pain and didn’t know how to respond to a little bit of kindness.
Thinking about how such a good kid would be cruelly deceived in the future, Shi Qingning felt a surge of anger.
“Go to the hospital for a check-up first,” Shi Qingning said. “Then sign a contract with me. You agreed to be my piano partner, right?”
The young master looked serious, pressing his lips together and keeping a stern face, though a faint pink blush appeared on his pale cheeks. Wrapped warmly, he looked like a grumpy snowball. Even though he was trying to sound bossy, his appearance only made one’s heart soften.
Bai Yexi instinctively reached for his silver chain, only to remember he had used it to tie back his hair.
“…Mm.”
“It’s a deal then.”
The boy’s tense expression finally relaxed. He smiled, and his slightly curved eyes looked as sweet as winter honey.
“Thank you for practicing piano with me.”
Bai Yexi looked down and said nothing.
Shi Qingning was used to the other’s silence. But in the next second, he saw the boy silently take half a step back.
…?
Shi Qingning felt like he had discovered something new. So, in Bai Yexi’s dictionary, taking half a step back didn’t mean being scared—it meant he was shy.
Shi Qingning wanted to laugh, but he held it in to respect the boy’s feelings. He cleared his throat and said, “Then let’s go to the hosp—”
Before he could finish, a cold, emotionless voice came from behind him.
“Shi Qingning.”
His older brother, Shi Yi, was standing nearby, calling his full name with a blank face. “It’s 8:30.”
Sun Ming, standing to the side, gave a small cough and whispered, “Second Young Master, you need to rest by 9:30.”
It would take nearly half an hour to get home from here.
The young Master Shi looked like a child who was excitedly planning to play, only to be caught by his parents. He was sadly escorted back and tucked into the car. The bodyguards split up to handle the scene and take Bai Yexi to the hospital. Only when Shi Qingning saw Bai Yexi get into the other car did he feel relieved.
He also saw Shi Yi standing nearby with his arms crossed. The surrounding lights outlined his tall, cold silhouette.
“Brother!” Shi Qingning called out. Shi Yi glanced at him and walked over slowly.
Shi Qingning leaned against the car window. Because his coat was too big, his fingertips didn’t even peek out of the sleeves.
“I know sleeping at 9:30 is the doctor’s advice,” he said, looking up. “It’s not a curfew you set.”
Teenagers usually hate being controlled, and a boy who has been sick for a long time is even more sensitive. But the Shi family didn’t mean to restrict him; they just wanted him to grow up healthy and safe.
“I’ll rest well as soon as I get home.”
A small dimple appeared near Shi Qingning’s lips. “You too, Brother. Go back and catch up on some sleep.”
Shi Yi looked at him with an unreadable expression.
Nearby, there was a brief noise as some of the followers woke up and tried to resist, but they were quickly handled. In the messy pile of people, Shi Yi saw Jian Ren being dragged away like a dead pig, his face clearly bruised and swollen even in the dark.
Shi Yi watched for a moment, then turned back and said casually, “I am the one setting your curfew.”
Shi Qingning was stunned. “…Huh?”
“No going out after dark this month. And from now on, stay at least five hundred meters away from Jian Ren.”
Shi Yi used the calmest voice to say the scariest things. “Otherwise, I’ll break Jian Ren’s legs.”
With that, Shi Yi tilted his chin toward the driver. “Go. Take him home to sleep.”
He glanced at Shi Qingning again. Even though he didn’t speak, Shi Qingning felt like his brother’s face clearly said, “You deserve a curfew.”
Before he could say another word, Shi Qingning was “shipped” away.
However, after a busy day, he was truly exhausted. Physical and mental fatigue hit him at once. He didn’t even wait for his mother and brother to return before falling into a deep sleep.
He slept heavily for a long time. When he did wake up, it was mostly to take medicine before drifting off again. After all, he had just left the hospital and was dealing with the shock of new memories. It wasn’t until three days later that he fully recovered.
During these days, Shi Qingning organized his memories and explored his surroundings. He systematically sorted out the information he had gathered.
The information fell into two categories. The first part was about the main character, Bai Yexi.
Although Shi Qingning had learned the main plot when he first met Bai Yexi, the details were vague. He spent a lot of energy piecing things together. Sometimes it felt like hard physical labor.
He also suspected he hadn’t read the whole novel, but only skimmed it. After much effort, he finally completed the story of Bai Yexi and his first “pursuer.”
Bai Yexi had been kidnapped as a child. After escaping, he was adopted by a family named An. However, life with the An family was not good. He was treated like free labor, forced to work and take care of the An family’s son, who wasn’t much younger than him. Because the An son was sickly and often missed school, Bai Yexi’s education was also delayed. Even his piano skills were learned by eavesdropping outside the window during the An son’s private lessons.
This hard life lasted until he was fifteen. At fifteen, Bai Yexi finally found his family. It should have been the start of his happiness. But his so-called biological father was a complete fraud. Not only did Bai Yexi not have a normal life, but he was also bullied and insulted by the man. The man wanted the An family’s money and pressured Bai Yexi to ask them for it, using his status as a “father” to threaten him.
Later, the traffickers were caught, and the fake father was exposed. Bai Yexi was finally free. He began living alone and working to earn money. His talent was undeniable; if he had a normal environment, he would have been a star long ago. Even in poverty, he shone. He once played a piano in a mall while passing by, which caught the eye of a music teacher. After much hard work, he entered a competition and won.
He was a genius. He eventually held his own solo concert and received great praise.
At this point, the future should have been bright. But then, the An family came knocking.
The An family’s son had always been sickly, and this time he needed an urgent operation and a massive blood transfusion. He had an extremely rare blood type. The blood bank was empty, and the surgery couldn’t happen. So, the An family found Bai Yexi.
Bai Yexi had the same rare blood type.
In the end, the An son survived the surgery. But Bai Yexi, due to excessive blood loss, suffered from nerve spasms. This left him with permanent tremors in his hands, ending his musical career forever.
A perfect pair of hands was destroyed just like that.
Reading this plot, Shi Qingning suspected his headache was caused by anger. The novel focused on the “deep bond” between the An son and the lead—though it looked like the lead was just being exploited.
Shi Qingning didn’t care about the “romance”; he just wanted to call the police.
Bai Yexi was only seventeen in that story, a minor. Forcing a minor to give that much blood is illegal!
Luckily, the plot hadn’t reached that point yet. The Bai Yexi he met was only fifteen or sixteen. Information showed he was currently living alone with no fixed home and hadn’t planned for any competitions yet. This must be right after he left the An family.
There was still time.
Because the young master needed rest, the piano teacher wouldn’t arrive until next week. Shi Qingning had agreed to meet Bai Yexi then.
The second part of his research was about himself.
He still couldn’t remember much about the “original” Master Shi. The novel didn’t give many details, only that he was the son of the richest man and was meant to be “cannon fodder.”
He knew the boy was kept at home due to his heart condition. Because of the Jian Ren incident, he had a bad relationship with his family and a strange temper. The Shi family spoiled him so much they let him do whatever he wanted. At least, that’s how it felt these past few days. They were obedient to his every wish.
His own memories were also strange. He knew he liked mint and knew how to handle his medicine, and he knew he was older than fifteen. But he couldn’t remember when he had read that novel.
So, his recovery plan now had two goals: his body and his memory.
Soon, the young master received a special gift.
“Let’s do it this weekend, sweetie. What do you think?” his mother asked. “Everyone heard you’re out of the hospital and wants to celebrate.”
“But don’t worry too much. If you’re tired, you can rest anytime.”
This was good for Shi Qingning. He could meet people and try to spark some memories.
“Okay,” he agreed.
His mother was delighted. “Is there any gift you want?”
She listed many things: “The sports car we prepared is ready. When you feel better, the driver can take you for a spin. There are custom suits and sneakers from my friends. Oh, and your father and I want to buy a star and name it after you.”
Each gift was incredibly expensive. But his mother felt it wasn’t enough.
Shi Qingning listened for a while and asked, “Can it be any gift?”
“Of course,” she said. “If we can do it, we will.”
She even thought that if he said he still wanted to date men, they would eventually agree, as long as he was happy and healthy.
She didn’t expect him to say:
“I want to go to school.”
The boy was still pale, but his eyes were bright. “At my age, shouldn’t I be in high school?”
His mother was stunned.
This wasn’t a sudden thought for Shi Qingning.
The life of someone with a serious illness is very different from a healthy person. Healthy kids don’t know that the school they complain about is a dream for sick children.
Before he died and came to this world, Shi Qingning’s heart condition was even worse than this body.
In his bedroom’s walk-in closet, he had found a large cupboard. It was filled with all kinds of school bags. From cute backpacks to cool hard-shell bags.
They filled the shelves, but they had never been used.
“Go to school. Can your body handle it?” his mother asked hesitantly.
“The doctor said I’m recovered,” Shi Qingning said. “I want to try.”
Though worried, she promised him. “Okay.”
She didn’t want to break a promise on his birthday. Seeing his serious face, her worries lessened. He wasn’t doing this for fun. Her baby had truly grown up.
“I’ll talk to your father and brother. We’ll make your wish come true as soon as possible.”
The mother was gentle but also very efficient. She left immediately to discuss it.
Shi Qingning stayed in his room. Being a heart patient himself, he understood why the original boy wanted a normal life. Besides fulfilling a dream, school would give him skills. Most importantly, it would get him out of the house and away from people like Jian Ren.
He checked his tablet. Among pages of medical terms, there were several novel websites open. All of them had “Transmigration” in the title.
Looking at them, he thought his own life could be a novel too.
Following the style of those titles, it would be called:
Achieving My School Dream in a Trashy Romance Novel.
Haicheng, Old District.
The buildings here were low, crowded, and dirty. Everything was a depressing grey.
Because of the cold, the residents who usually loved arguing through their windows kept their doors shut. They stuffed old rags into window cracks to block the wind. It looked abandoned and ruined.
As it got dark, a tall, thin boy with long hair walked through the old buildings.
The hallway was dim. The yellow lightbulb flickered several times before staying on. The corridor was narrow and the walls were peeling. Old doorplates were missing or unreadable.
The layout was confusing. A few months ago, someone tried to build an “Escape Room” game here and put up new doorplates, but they ran out of money halfway through. Now, there were just a few empty rooms and mismatched signs, making the place feel creepy.
The boy stopped on the third floor and entered a small apartment. He went to the window. It wasn’t completely dark yet. Looking through the window paper, he could see a suspicious figure below.
Bai Yexi leaned against the window frame and looked down. He recognized the man instantly, even though it had been a long time since his “previous life.”
Tian Wenlong.
This was the man who claimed to be his father in his past life. Compared to before, the man looked thinner and older now. This was his first-time finding Bai Yexi’s place. Tian Wenlong practiced a “kind” smile before entering the building. It was a sickening sight.
Tian Wenlong hurried up to the third floor. He checked the door numbers and knocked gently. No one answered. He knocked again.
Just as his smile was fading, the door moved.
A young boy with wavy hair tied in a ponytail peeked out. He looked confused. “Who is it?”
“Xiao Ye!” Tian Wenlong blurted out. “I’m your father!”
The boy froze. Tian Wenlong started crying loudly. “I’m so sorry I left you back then! I’ve searched for so long. Let me look at you!”
The boy frowned. “You have the wrong person.”
“No way!” Tian Wenlong cried. “You’re my son!”
The boy hesitated. “But I don’t know you.”
“That’s because we’ve been apart for too long!” Tian Wenlong sobbed. His crying sounded like a rusty tractor. “I missed you every day.”
The boy still looked confused and didn’t let him in. Tian Wenlong grew impatient. He checked the door number again to be sure, then turned cold.
“What’s wrong with you, kid? Stop playing dumb.”
He lowered his voice. “Do you know you are the child of a shameful affair? It’s disgusting. You shouldn’t have been born.”
Seeing the boy look shocked, Tian Wenlong continued, “I’m the only one in the world who wants you. Don’t be ungrateful!”
Suddenly, a loud, deep voice came from behind the boy.
“Ye-zi, who is it?”
A big, muscular man appeared. Even in the cold, he only wore a tank top.
Tian Wenlong was stunned. The information said the kid lived alone. Who was this?
“I don’t know him,” the boy said, leaning against the door. “Some old guy says he’s my dad.”
The muscle man frowned. “Your dad?”
The boy laughed. “That old man died seven years ago. I paid for the funeral myself.”
He reached into the muscle man’s pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. He lit one and looked at the man. “Don’t you believe me?”
He slid his hand under the man’s shirt and said softly, “My dad is dead. The only person I call ‘Daddy’ is you…”
Tian Wenlong froze. He looked at the door number again, confused.
“No, my son lives here. Maybe you are my son?” he said to the muscle man.
The boy laughed, leaning into the man’s chest. “What’s wrong with you, calling everyone ‘son’? Why don’t you call everyone ‘Grandpa’ instead?”
Tian Wenlong was purple with rage. He tried to point a finger at them, but before he could, he was punched right in the nose.
“AHHHH!!!!”
His screams filled the building.
In the room next door, Bai Yexi sat on his windowsill and lit a cigarette. The room was dark except for the red glow of the cigarette. The smoke drifted around his cold silhouette.
The screams outside turned into begging for mercy.
Bai Yexi looked down, feeling bored. The world was always like this: dirty, mean, and dull.
A car drove by outside, its horn mixing with the screams. The headlights lit up a paper cup on the windowsill. Inside the cup was a tiny green sprout.
It was lemongrass.
Bai Yexi watched it for a while, then crushed his cigarette out on the window frame. He opened a cupboard and put the paper cup inside to keep it a bit warmer.
He opened the window and jumped out from the third floor, landing softly on the ground. Behind him, the screams continued.
Bai Yexi pulled up his hood, hiding his handsome face in the shadows. He had a new plan.
He would go practice the piano.
After all, he hadn’t touched one in twenty years.
He was going to be a piano partner. He couldn’t afford to be out of practice.
