The Pitiful Guy I Saved Is a Possessive Big Shot - Chapter 35
Outside the window, the sky was just starting to brighten, and the room was no longer completely dark.
Shi Yi stood at the bedroom door, his cold, handsome face filled with anger.
His hand pressed against the doorframe, the veins on the back of his hand standing out clearly.
If he hadn’t been worried about waking Shi Qingning, his hand might have already been around the other person’s neck.
Shi Yi’s chest rose and fell several times before he finally controlled his strength and stepped inside lightly.
Just like when he opened the bedroom door before, his movements were nearly silent.
But Shi Qingning, lying on the bed, seemed to hear something. A few strands of soft hair resting outside the thin blanket moved slightly with a soft rustle.
Shi Yi stopped moving and slowed his breathing.
The teenager under the blanket didn’t move again, appearing to still be asleep. Shi Yi waited until he was quiet, then walked to the bedside, reaching out to pick him up along with the blanket.
But as soon as Shi Yi touched the duvet, the boy seemed to sense it and moved again.
The thin blanket made a soft rubbing sound. The teenager, who was resting his head on Bai Yexi’s chest, tilted his head and snuggled deeper into the other’s arms.
Shi Yi only stared at his younger brother, not letting his eyes wander to the other person.
Even so, his suppressed anger flared up like oil poured on a fire, instantly soaring.
It was so intense that he looked ready to tear someone apart.
Shi Yi had said he would come last night, but work had kept him away. He had only stopped by this morning for a moment, planning to take a quick look and leave.
He didn’t want to wake Shi Qingning.
The young master’s sleep quality was quite poor. Although it had improved a bit after his major surgery, he was still a very light sleeper and found it extremely hard to fall back asleep once woken.
He wasn’t like other kids his age who could recover from one bad night with two days of rest; at this age, most people seemed full of life no matter what.
But the suffering Shi Qingning endured was like ink on white paper or a crack in a mirror—every mark was impossible to hide.
It could affect his health deeply.
The dazed teenager curled up in the other’s arms. A few seconds later, his long eyelashes fluttered as if he were about to open his eyes.
A hand gently reached over, covering his eyes.
“Sleep a little longer.”
Bai Yexi’s voice was low and soft. His voice usually carried a cold edge, but in the dim light of dawn, it sounded like a silent shield, blocking out all instability.
The boy’s eyelashes flickered against Bai Yexi’s palm. Following the words, he gradually drifted back to sleep on the other’s chest.
Outside the hand covering the boy’s eyes, a dim phone light flashed.
Standing by the bed, Shi Yi partially blocked the light and took out his phone. He had come in a hurry, and now a call was flashing.
Shi Yi didn’t answer it.
His gaze returned to the bed. Bai Yexi, having soothed the boy back to sleep, now looked up.
Shi Yi closed his eyes silently. He unlocked his screen, tapped a few times, and turned the phone—set to its lowest brightness—toward Bai Yexi.
The memo contained only three words.
【9:00 PM】
He gave Bai Yexi a long, deep look, then silenced his ringing phone and left without a sound.
By the time Shi Qingning woke up, the day was bright.
He felt much warmer than before. In his daze, Shi Qingning thought the temperature had risen and that late spring had finally arrived.
When he realized the texture was wrong and opened his eyes, he found he was clinging to a heat source.
Shi Qingning felt a bit embarrassed. “Sorry…”
He vaguely remembered wanting to hold onto Bai Yexi, but he hadn’t expected to wake up literally pressed against him.
Mint is actually quite warm, Shi Qingning thought randomly.
It was nothing like the coldness he showed on the surface.
Bai Yexi, having been “praised,” showed no expression and simply said, “Morning.”
He then got up to wash.
Shi Qingning sat on the bed hugging his blanket for a while.
He realized that sleeping while holding someone didn’t seem to trigger any new memories.
He hadn’t even had a dream.
Instead, he had just slept exceptionally well.
Do I need to go even further to affect my memory?
Shi Qingning wondered. After a while, he noticed something else.
Has the water in the bathroom been running for a long time?
Once Shi Qingning had changed and went into the bathroom to wash his face, he was shocked.
Why was the water so cold?
The water in the new house was always set to a constant temperature unless someone adjusted it.
This water was so cold it almost stung his hands. Even if the temperature was turned back up, it would take a few seconds to warm up.
Did Mint use ice water?
Shi Qingning intended to ask, but after he finished getting ready, he was called to breakfast.
Because he had slept so well, he woke up a bit late and had to rush to class. Once things got busy, he forgot the matter.
It was Friday, and everyone was excited because the bi-weekly weekend break had finally arrived.
Although their bodies were in the classroom, the students’ hearts had already flown away. Their attitude toward everything was:
“We’ll talk about it next week!”
Shi Qingning caught a bit of the excitement. Even though holidays weren’t as “magical” for him since he hadn’t started morning and evening self-study yet, he was happy because he and Bai Yexi could go back to the Shi family home.
He could also play the piano.
While it was Friday, the day didn’t mean rest for everyone.
Several stretch Lincolns were parked in front of a lavish, expensive hotel. Bodyguards carefully helped a short, fat man who was too drunk to stand.
Several middle-aged men in suits followed behind, reeking of alcohol and fussing over him.
“Hold on to Director Li!”
They finally reached the car. The bodyguards were very careful, but the short, fat man started acting out, refusing to let anyone touch him.
“No… no need! I’ll do it myself!”
He waved his hands impatiently, insisting on getting in alone. As a result, he lost his balance and flopped against the car window, pushing the half-open door back.
“Bang!”
The people around him scrambled to pull him up. A greasy smudge in the shape of half a face was left clearly on the window.
“Fine, fine! What’s the fuss!”
The man complained, opening his blurry small eyes to look around.
“Where is Little Shi?”
Shi Yi, who was a few steps behind, walked over. His phone screen was still lit.
“The old room at the Drunken Immortal Pavilion is booked. They can start as soon as you arrive.”
In the night, the young man was tall and lean. Compared to the others, he looked especially upright.
Naturally, some people disliked his cold, aloof manner and joked around.
“I say, President Shi, Director Li finally came to Haicheng. You only buy him a drink but won’t even go along for karaoke?”
Shi Yi’s face was expressionless. “I’m a bad singer and I’d hate to ruin the mood. I’ve found someone who sings well to accompany the Director.”
Right then, a sweet female voice came from his phone.
“Is Mr. Li coming? I’ve been waiting so long~”
Hearing the voice, the drunk man’s eyes snapped open.
“Xiao Lin? Is that Xiao Lin?”
Shi Yi took the opportunity to help him into the car. “Xiao Lin and her friends are all ready and waiting for you.”
The man nodded repeatedly and waved at the driver. “Go, go! Hurry up!”
Before leaving, he slapped Shi Yi’s shoulder a few times.
“Good, you’re very good. Let’s talk properly after I’m done singing…!”
The people nearby, drunk or sober, gave Shi Yi complicated looks.
How was he so lucky? Not only did he have the richest man as a father, but he could even get someone from the Li family in Yancheng to pat his shoulder.
Only Shi Yi remained his usual cold self, whispering instructions to his manager.
“Take good care of the guests.”
The cars drove off, and the smell of alcohol and exhaust slowly faded.
Shi Yi walked alone to a trash can and threw away the wet wipe he had used to scrub his fingers repeatedly.
He looked down to straighten his cufflinks as a man in a black suit approached.
“Young Master, the car is here.”
As Shi Yi was about to get in, an ordinary-looking blue Audi drove up and rolled down its window.
“Shi Yi?”
A beautiful young man with gentle eyes looked over curiously.
“It really is you. Are you off work? Want to grab some tea?”
Shi Yi stopped. “I have another party.”
The young man laughed. “So busy?”
He tilted his head. “Want a ride?”
Shi Yi looked at the car his bodyguard had brought, then eventually opened the Audi door.
“North Gate of Jinmao, thanks.”
Once he was settled, the young man skillfully reversed and turned. His slender fingers on the steering wheel looked pale and clear under the city lights.
“No surgery today?” Shi Yi asked, initiating conversation.
“Finished. I got off early today,” the young man said. He had a natural smile and a gentle way of speaking that put people at ease.
“Then I ran into someone busier than me.” He glanced at his friend. “Didn’t sleep again yesterday?”
Shi Yi said flatly, “I’ll sleep when I get back.”
“The traffic is bad right now. Why don’t you sleep for a bit?”
The young man smiled.
“My car is a bit small, so your long legs might be a bit uncomfortable.”
Shi Yi relaxed his back slightly and whispered, “It’s fine. No need.”
The young man saw his friend’s exhaustion, turned on some light music, and stopped talking.
But the silence didn’t last long. Soon, Shi Yi received two calls in a row.
When he hung up, the young man finally couldn’t help but speak.
“The one you sent off earlier… was from the Li family, right?”
Shi Yi didn’t hide it. “Yes.”
“Do they really want you to do that new medical pilot program?” the young man asked.
“Start in Haicheng first.” Shi Yi rubbed his temples. “Then expand nationwide in five steps.”
The young man hesitated.
Shi Yi didn’t look up. “I know. They want to fight the Yu family.”
Yancheng was the capital, and the Li and Yu families were the two most powerful factions. The Shi family in Haicheng wasn’t powerful enough to interfere.
“The Yu family has such a good reputation now that the Li family is getting anxious,” the young man said. “The fighting is out in the open now. My father even called to warn me, and I’ve been away from home for so long.”
He looked at Shi Yi.
“It’s hard to stay neutral now. The Qin family in Yancheng stayed in the middle for years, but even they were approached recently.”
“You should decide soon.”
Reality isn’t a game. In this kind of fight, trying not to offend either side is the most dangerous path.
Shi Yi replied quietly, “Mhm.”
The young man paused, then added, “Even though the Li family wants to recruit you, honestly, they are a bit…”
The young man didn’t finish, but Shi Yi understood.
The assistant previously placed by his side was the Li family’s doing.
The young man asked, “There’s still a chance. Have you considered the Yu family?”
Shi Yi knew there were better options.
“I dealt with Jian Ren.”
And the Jian family was the strongest force behind the Yu family.
He whispered, “Even if it’s just a branch, the Jian family won’t let an outsider challenge them.”
Despite that, Shi Yi thought of his brother’s pale face and bloodless lips when he had been soaked in cold water.
He had never regretted it.
Suddenly, his brother’s peaceful sleeping face from this morning appeared in his mind.
And that instinctive snuggling into the other person’s arms.
Shi Yi’s temple throbbed.
He did regret this.
He regretted not seeing through that person’s hidden intentions sooner.
He looked at his watch.
Forty-five minutes until nine o’clock.
