The Pitiful Guy I Saved Is a Possessive Big Shot - Chapter 32
Shi Qingning had a dream.
In the dream, Bai Yexi had grown into a man. The youthful awkwardness and cold gloom had faded from his face. His handsome features were deep and sharp, and his mature bone structure revealed a beauty that felt fully imposing.
He had just escaped the shackles of his mother’s family in the capital and the pestering of Qin Zhishen. He only wanted a peaceful life. However, the world of wealthy families is deep, and some people refused to let him be. With no way to avoid it, Bai Yexi finally fought back in a desperate situation. No one knew how he did it, but by the time they realized, he had already crushed his old enemies.
As a warning and a strike back, Bai Yexi completely destroyed a family that had once plotted against him and took control of one of their younger members. It was this brilliant performance that earned him huge profits and a seat on the Bai family board of directors.
The Bai family was also a powerful family, but they didn’t develop in the mainland; they were based in Macau. Years ago, when Bai Yexi was kidnapped, his mother died of a broken heart, and his father rarely set foot on the mainland again because of it. For all those years, the Bai family had almost forgotten his existence. But with Bai Yexi’s return, he was still the most legitimate heir to the main line of the family.
Later, Bai Yexi rose quickly thanks to his talent, yet he still never received the family affection he was owed. Not long after returning to the family, his father died in a car accident. The only person left by his side was actually that younger member from his enemy’s family whom he controlled. Putting aside past grudges, the two of them actually reached a strange balance in their daily lives.
Shi Qingning watched blankly, and only then did he realize what was happening. It turned out this person was the third pursuer from the novel.
Everything in the dream was out of control and blurry. Shi Qingning only knew that this time, the story seemed different from before because he felt Bai Yexi’s genuine feelings. Bai Yexi eventually decided not to involve the innocent, even though their grudges were already tangled. Perhaps they could have been even, as Bai Yexi actually asked the other person if they liked him.
But the other person did not answer.
In that moment, Shi Qingning suddenly had a very bad feeling, perhaps because he already knew the ending. But as an outsider, he was helpless against the sudden turn of events. He watched as the sun rose the next day after the rain.
But Bai Yexi had stopped breathing forever.
His heart had been cut out while he was still alive to save the person he had told he liked the night before. That person had a severe heart condition and had stolen a heart from a living person. They were so cruel and wicked that they even stole his love.
Shi Qingning woke up with a jolt, feeling as if he were falling into an abyss. When he opened his eyes, it was pitch black. He was dazed for a moment before realizing that Bai Yexi’s long hair was spread out before him.
They had gone through so much the night before that Shi Qingning didn’t know when he had fallen asleep, let alone his sleeping position. He now realized they were sleeping together. Shi Qingning was tucked in the other’s arms, his own arms wrapped around Bai Yexi.
Shi Qingning felt a sudden chill of fear. This position reminded him of the embrace between the two people in his dream. His back stiffened, and the person in front of him woke up.
Bai Yexi opened his eyes and saw the fear in the boy’s eyes that hadn’t been hidden yet.
“…”
A heavy silence spread. Bai Yexi paused, then silently pulled his hands back and got out of bed. He moved a few steps away before finally speaking.
“Sorry.”
His voice was so raspy it was hard to hear. The sound of the door closing and heavy footsteps walking away followed. Shi Qingning sat on the bed for a long time before he reacted. He realized Bai Yexi’s mood seemed wrong and wanted to go explain, but he was clumsy with words.
Shi Qingning ruffled his hair in frustration. How do I explain this? Should I say I wasn’t scared of him, but because… because I dreamed about how he died?
When Shi Qingning walked out of the bedroom, he saw the clock on the wall was past eight. The reason it was still dark was because of the heavy rain outside—the aftermath of last night’s thunderstorm.
Shi’s mother called, saying the rain was heavy and the wind was strong. She had already asked the teachers for leave for both of them, telling them to wait until the rain stopped. Even though they lived so close, she was still worried that Shi Qingning might catch a cold.
After hanging up, Shi Qingning was still a bit dazed. The house was gloomy, with only the sound of rain hitting the windows. Yesterday, when he rushed into Bai Yexi’s room, the other was not only frozen through but also as stiff as a steel plate. Shi Qingning had held him and comforted him slowly, softening him bit by bit. Later, they had fallen asleep without knowing it.
Shi Qingning saw that Bai Yexi definitely didn’t like thunder, but that reaction wasn’t just because of the noise. Maybe he should talk to “Mint” properly.
As Shi Qingning was about to find him, he ran into Bai Yexi coming out of the bathroom. They stood facing each other, and for a moment, there was a strange tension. Suddenly, Bai Yexi turned his head and let out a muffled sneeze.
Shi Qingning was startled. “Do you have a cold?” He was about to step forward, but Bai Yexi raised a hand to stop him.
“Don’t come over,” Bai Yexi’s voice was still low and raspy. “It’s contagious.”
Shi Qingning’s immune system wasn’t great, so he had to listen. He made a call to arrange a video doctor visit for Bai Yexi. The two went back to their own rooms. After a while, Shi Qingning heard a very soft knock.
It was Bai Yexi. “It’s a mild cold. I’ve taken the medicine.”
Shi Qingning jumped off his chair to open the door, but the other was already gone. The medicine cabinet in the living room had been used, and there was a faint smell of alcohol in the air. Bai Yexi had disinfected the area after taking his medicine, fearing he might spread the cold.
Even though Shi Qingning was used to being sick, he still marveled at Bai Yexi’s thoughtfulness. If only he could use some of that care on himself.
Shi Qingning went back to his room and, having some free time, called the doctor to check on the sleep monitor he wanted. Coincidentally, the doctor who answered was the woman who had suggested the possibility of an anxiety disorder last time.
The doctor’s name was Dr. Jiang. Shi Qingning hesitated but told her about what happened last night. Dr. Jiang thought for a moment. “It looks like he might have traumatic memories. Do you know if he has any deep psychological shadows?”
Traumatic memories? For Bai Yexi, there were too many. Being kidnapped as a child, being beaten and abused, and even the illegal blood drawing recently—any of those could be the cause.
Shi Qingning could only say, “I’m not exactly sure of the details.”
Dr. Jiang asked, “How did he calm down last night?”
Shi Qingning answered honestly, “I held him and kept talking to him, and then he calmed down.”
Dr. Jiang was shocked. “You touched him directly?” She quickly explained, “I forgot to warn you earlier. If it’s a panic attack, it’s best not to touch the person, or you might get hurt by mistake.”
Shi Qingning said, “He didn’t hurt me. He just looked like he was afraid.” He felt that someone should hold him, so he did. “After I held him, he seemed to get better.”
Dr. Jiang hesitated. “Comforting through a hug? It’s possible.” She asked, “Should you bring him in for a check-up again?”
Shi Qingning was unsure. “What if he doesn’t want to go?” Bai Yexi didn’t seem like the type to talk openly about his feelings. Shi Qingning was also worried that forcing a check-up might cause him more pain. “He’s okay now, right?”
Dr. Jiang confirmed and said, “Then I’ll contact a colleague in the psychology department and ask a professional to help with this.”
Shi Qingning thanked her and hung up, still feeling uneasy. He looked up some information himself. There are many types of anxiety disorders. Besides general anxiety, there are specific types like claustrophobia. He looked through the files, trying to find something that matched Bai Yexi.
As he read, he thought about Bai Yexi’s reaction and felt many doubts. Shi Qingning still didn’t understand what triggered his own memories of the novel, but last night, he had indeed dreamed of the later plot.
If he saw it correctly, Bai Yexi did fall in love. But he had shown no reaction to so many previous pursuers—why did he suddenly like the last person? That person had a severe heart disease. Bai Yexi said he was controlling them for revenge, but in reality, he was paying for their expensive treatment. In their daily life, the person sometimes struggled even to walk, and Bai Yexi had to carry them.
Ordinary people might not understand, but Shi Qingning understood very well. He had the same heart condition. He had seen countless cases. Lucky ones like him could get the right medicine and surgery to fix it early. Severe cases couldn’t even afford surgery and had to wait for a heart transplant.
But a heart transplant isn’t simple. Aside from the survival rate, waiting for a donor is a long and difficult process. There are too many people waiting and too few donors. If someone has a rare blood type, it’s even harder. Without a donor, the only way to save a life is just a beautiful dream.
Bai Yexi had a special blood type, which was likely why he was targeted. Shi Qingning tried to set aside his worry and focus on analyzing Bai Yexi’s current situation. If there was a major difference between the last person and the previous pursuers, it was that Bai Yexi lived with them. And they had frequent physical contact.
Shi Qingning thought of last night again. The other person had calmed down because of his hug. He stared at the documents in front of him. Could it be what I’m thinking?
Near noon, the rain outside finally slowed down. Bai Yexi came out of his bedroom wearing a black mask. He looked even colder and harder to approach.
Shi Qingning had been drinking traditional medicine lately, and it was time to get the soup ready. Bai Yexi was going to ask him about it, but he stopped. Remembering Shi Qingning’s expression this morning, he didn’t want to bother him. He was about to put on his coat to get the medicine when he heard a door open beside him.
Shi Qingning walked out of his bedroom. “Mint…”
As soon as he came out, he saw Bai Yexi’s back. He called him in a hurry but didn’t watch his step and tripped on the door frame. “Ouch…!”
He instinctively fell forward. Before he could grab anything, his vision went dark. The cold, fresh scent of mint filled his nose. Shi Qingning was stunned.
A raspy voice sounded in his ear. “Are you okay?”
Bai Yexi had moved almost by instinct to catch him. Once he held him steady, he realized he had crossed a line. He looked down and was about to let go, but he felt a slight pressure on his waist and arms.
The boy in his arms had reached out and hugged him directly. The room was at a comfortable temperature. The boy was wearing thin cotton pajamas, and his body heat was clearly felt through the fabric. It was still raining outside, so the sunlight only seemed to shine inside Bai Yexi’s arms.
In return, Shi Qingning could also feel the other’s temperature. He could feel “Mint’s” cool, pale skin slowly warming up. It seemed to confirm his guess.
Shi Qingning looked up and met his eyes with a focused and sincere look. “Mint, do you have Skin Hunger (Skin Hunger/Haphephobia)?”
He tried to open his arms wider, pressing himself even closer and more tightly against him. “Does hugging like this make you feel better?”
