The Pitiful Guy I Saved Is a Possessive Big Shot - Chapter 26
Chen Zibing was completely terrified by him. It wasn’t a loud scream or a lecture meant to change her mind. The boy’s voice didn’t even hold any extra emotion. He was calm, rational, and composed. Yet, his words made Chen Zibing grit her teeth and her fingertips tremble.
The boy himself didn’t even look at her for very long.
“Bleeding won’t kill you, and it won’t take away the pain,” Bai Yexi said. His voice sounded more like he was stating a fact than trying to comfort her. “Instead, it will make you more awake. You will clearly remember and feel all that pain again.”
He looked down at Chen Zibing’s wrist. “That is, if you can actually handle the feeling of your skin being torn open.”
Chen Zibing stumbled back. Her hand holding the razor blade instinctively moved away. She seemed afraid of the physical pain he described so realistically. She was just an ordinary high school student; no matter how hopeless she felt, she had only seen flowing blood. She had never thought about the bone and flesh beneath the skin, nor had she ever seen such shocking wounds.
Chen Zibing stared at the boy, her thin hand shaking constantly. The dim sunlight coming through the warehouse door hit the sharp blade, creating a scary glint. Bai Yexi glanced at her, his expression unchanging. He crossed his long fingers and pressed his thumb gently against the pulse on his own thin wrist.
He suddenly spoke again. “But it can help you control yourself. It makes you too weak to do anything bad.”
What leaves with the blood is not pain, but strength—the crazy strength that might cause a person to hurt others.
“If you want to, you can go donate blood,” he said, his tone becoming much softer and more natural. “Just remember to wait until you are an adult.”
The boy raised a finger from a distance and pointed at the razor blade in her hand. “That kind of dirty tool won’t work.”
Chen Zibing was so scared and her nerves were so tight that she dropped the blade almost immediately, as if it had burned her. Before the “clink” of the blade hitting the floor faded, Chen Zibing was suddenly pulled away by a strong force from behind.
She screamed, but her voice was drowned out by a shaky, hoarse shout.
“I got her! I have her! Quick, take the blade away!!”
The silence of the old warehouse was suddenly broken by a crowd. Footsteps and shouts filled the air. The first boy, who had climbed through the window silently, held Chen Zibing tight. The second student to climb in rushed to move the blade away. Only when the third person stepped inside did they have time to unlock the door and open it wide.
It was very noisy. Everyone was busy taking Chen Zibing outside, and their footsteps kicked up clouds of dust in the warehouse. In the middle of the crowd, the student who picked up the blade covered his nose and looked toward the balcony. Through the dust, he saw the tall, thin boy with long hair.
The boy’s figure was blurry. Even though he wore the same school uniform as everyone else, he reminded the student of a ghost or spirit from an old movie. The student coughed and, for a second, thought the boy might jump straight off the second-story balcony.
But Bai Yexi didn’t. He used the stairs. He didn’t want to attract attention.
Earlier, many students had scattered to find her. A group passing by the corner of the playground happened to see a long-haired boy sitting on the second-floor balcony of the warehouse. No one knew when he got up there or why he was sitting there. Someone wanted to call out to him, and they saw him look down. He clearly saw them, but he didn’t answer. He simply put a finger to his lips, telling them to be quiet.
Not only that, but the boy seemed to turn back to talk to someone inside. Lu Chao, the sports representative, was in the group. He knew the second floor had been empty for a long time and guessed that Chen Zibing might be there. The group went to the entrance, following the long-haired boy’s lead by staying very quiet.
The moment the blade hit the floor, Lu Chao leaped forward like an arrow and pulled Chen Zibing back. Everyone there was a student. Although no blood was shed and there wasn’t a huge struggle, many students broke into a cold sweat in the winter air by the time they got her downstairs safely. That was a real human life, after all.
Other students heard the news and rushed over to the corner of the playground. A few girls helped support Chen Zibing. They didn’t dare ask questions; they just carefully used tissues to wipe her hands and the dust off her clothes. Everything was quiet except for the girls’ soft voices comforting her.
“It’s okay, it’s okay now. The blade is put away.” The student who wrapped the blade called out.
Suddenly, someone started sobbing uncontrollably. It was Chen Zibing’s desk mate, the one who had been watching over her. She tried to take deep breaths to calm down, but she couldn’t hold it in. Her face turned red, and she burst into tears.
“How could you do this? How could you do something like this…?”
Chen Zibing’s face was pale. She had been sitting there in a daze, but hearing the crying, her empty eyes suddenly filled with tears. They fell quickly.
“I’m sorry…” she choked out. She hugged her desk mate, her friend who ran over, and the girls surrounding her. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry…”
The girls all cried together. The boys nearby couldn’t help but wipe their faces and rub their noses. Luckily… luckily she was okay.
The P.E. teacher, who had been called back from the security office, arrived and let out a long breath of relief. He quickly called the director. “It’s okay, we found her. At the sports warehouse. Yes, a boy saved her…”
The teacher had heard what happened from the students on his way there. He looked around for the boy who saved her. Long hair was easy to spot, and he found him quickly. But then, the teacher hesitated.
The boy wasn’t standing with the other students. He stood far away from the crowd with a calm and distant look. His expression didn’t look like someone who had just saved a life. Compared to the other students who were covered in tears and cold sweat, this boy was far too calm.
Because he really did save her, the teacher didn’t use the more accurate word: cold.
The P.E. teacher was confused and wanted to ask the witnesses more questions, but then he saw a boy in a thick white coat running over. His school uniform was hidden under the coat, so he clearly wasn’t coming from a P.E. class. He ran up and threw himself toward the long-haired boy.
The long-haired boy looked startled, but his body reacted instinctively to catch the other. It was like being hit by a soft cloud. He had been standing outside the crowd, separated by an invisible wall, but in this second, that barrier disappeared. He reached out and held the boy. The weight of the hug pulled him back down to the real world.
In this moment, he became a real person. The boy in his arms looked up and stared at him without blinking.
“Are you okay?”
Bai Yexi could clearly hear his own heart beating. It was loud and fast. “I’m fine.”
Shi Qingning took a long breath. He had been very scared. “As soon as I entered the school, I heard the guards saying something happened at the playground. Thankfully…”
Thankfully, it wasn’t the “melodrama” of the novel hurting Bai Yexi for no reason. Once he calmed down, Shi Qingning asked what happened. He didn’t expect Chen Zibing to try to hurt herself during P.E. class, and he certainly didn’t expect “Mint” to be the one to save her.
Chen Zibing was taken to the infirmary by the girls, and the P.E. teacher went to give a report. The remaining students were still shaken, and after a quick roll call, class ended.
The atmosphere in the classroom was heavy for the rest of the afternoon. When school was over, Shi Qingning and Bai Yexi, who didn’t stay for evening study, walked out together. On the way, Shi Qingning was busy messaging someone on his phone. When he finally got a clear answer, he looked relieved.
“Mint,” he called out.
“Mm?” Bai Yexi was casually playing with a silver chain on his wrist.
In the crowd, people were whispering about the student who tried to commit suicide. News traveled fast in such a small school. Words like “blood” and “self-harm” floated through the air. As the evening wind blew, Bai Yexi looked at the boy beside him and counted the days in his head.
Maybe it was time to move up the date for his blood draw. Was it because they had too much physical contact lately? Bai Yexi remembered the hug from this afternoon and the sweet, light scent of the boy.
He suddenly heard the boy speak. “My mom just told me that we found an apartment near the school. It’s a two-bedroom place, very spacious.”
Shi Qingning was speaking seriously. After the scare this afternoon and thinking about the crazy plot of the novel, he really didn’t want anything bad to happen to “Mint.”
The boy turned to look at Bai Yexi. His light-colored eyes looked as sweet as honey in the orange sunset. His voice sounded the same.
“Why don’t you come live with me?”
