Chapter 77: If I Don’t See You Again, I’ll Go…
At Shenzhen University, the classroom held just over twenty students, spanning from middle-aged to elderly, dressed either in business suits or radiating an extraordinary demeanor.
The classroom was very quiet, with only the unhurried, somewhat hypnotic voice of the professor lecturing. Yet, no one was drowsy; their eyes showed their earnest attention.
Everyone seated here was highly accomplished, with profound backgrounds. Their self-control in paying attention was far superior to that of most ordinary people.
Only one person, dressed in a jade-green cheongsam, her long hair styled with a jade hairpin, possessed elegant and refined shoulder and back lines. Beneath her arched eyebrows, her features exuded a mature, elegant, and serene charm. Her eyes, however, held a touch of languor and indifference. Propping her chin with one hand, she completely disregarded the professor and checked the time on her wristwatch several times.
Lin Rong found the content somewhat tedious. She wasn’t interested in any of it.
Lin Shan also didn’t insist that she study diligently; after all, this was merely a way to keep her occupied and eventually get the degree.
Finally, the professor on the podium said: “That concludes this lecture. Thank you all for your diligent listening. I will send the course materials to everyone after class.”
People in the classroom began to rise in twos and threes. Lin Rong closed the book in front of her, didn’t bother packing up, stood up, and walked straight out.
The assistant who had been waiting outside the classroom rushed in to pack up the textbooks and notebooks on the desk.
She was responsible for the young lady’s daily life, following her to handle trivial daily chores. More importantly, she was Lin Shan’s eyes.
After packing, she hurried to catch up with Lin Rong. From a distance, she saw someone stop Lin Rong, and her heart sank.
The person stopping Lin Rong was a man who looked to be in his thirties, with a refined demeanor, wearing a dark blue suit jacket over a white shirt. Over six feet tall, he had a slight imposing presence in front of Lin Rong. His eyes were gentle and smiling: “Miss Lin, I am also a student in this class. That makes us classmates.”
“Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Fang Xiong, the director of Shenzhen Bihua Technology.”
“It seems you recognize me, so I probably don’t need to introduce myself?” Lin Rong’s tone was flat, showing little interest in the man.
“Naturally. Miss Lin is the most outstanding person in the entire classroom. I noticed Miss Lin immediately during the first lecture.”
“I wonder if I have the honor of adding Miss Lin’s contact information?”
Lin Rong knew what he meant: either he was interested in her youth and beauty, or he was targeting the Lin family behind her.
She wasn’t interested. Just as she was about to blurt out her refusal, her peripheral vision caught sight of her rushing assistant. Her lips curved into a smile, and she said: “Oh, sure, no problem.”
Her features were naturally charming. Especially when her arched eyebrows subtly lifted, she exuded a faint, charming allure—seductive but not vulgar, with a lazy, elegant demeanor.
Fang Xiong was momentarily stunned before taking out his phone: “Miss Lin, I’ll scan you.”
“Miss…” The personal assistant rushed over, just in time to see the two adding each other as friends, and hesitated to speak.
“Alright, we’ve added each other. If there’s nothing else, Mr. Fang, I’m heading back now,” Lin Rong raised the phone in her hand, her eyebrows slightly lifted. “See you next time.”
Her tone was slightly frivolous, sounding like she was actively inviting him out.
Walking away steadily in her high heels, the curve on Lin Rong’s lips slowly faded. She mentally counted: nineteen, eighteen, seventeen…
Three, two, one…
As she turned the corner, she glanced back and saw that someone had indeed stopped Fang Xiong.
The refreshing aroma of coffee permeated the air. Intricate screens separated the seating areas. Soft lighting fell gently, and the café’s background music was soothing and prolonged.
Fang Xiong was somewhat nervous because the person sitting across from him was observing him. Her eyes behind the frameless glasses held a piercing sharpness.
“I didn’t expect…” He paused, choosing a more familiar address. “Auntie would ask to meet me.”
“If you want to pursue my daughter, of course, I must first know what kind of person you are,” Lin Shan frowned. “I don’t like the address ‘Auntie.’ Call me CEO Lin.”
“Let me be blunt. You are not the eldest son. Although you hold the title of director, you have no real power in the company.”
“I heard your father had an outside mistress last year… and she was ‘happily blessed with a son,’ right?”
“You don’t even have a presentable education, or else you wouldn’t be back for further study now.”
“Your conditions…” Lin Shan’s scrutinizing gaze swept over him from head to toe. “It’s best if you stay far away from Rongrong.”
“That’s all I have to say.” Lin Shan stood up. The coffee on the table hadn’t been touched. Without another look at him, she turned and walked away.
When Lin Shan arrived home, Lin Rong was sitting by the window drawing a sketch. A shadow enveloped the plaster figure. Lin Rong spoke: “You’re blocking my light.”
Lin Shan didn’t move. She held out her hand: “Your phone.”
“Why?” Lin Rong turned her head to look at her.
“Delete that Fang Xiong,” Lin Shan said. “With his conditions, how did he have the audacity to hit on you?”
Lin Rong immediately handed over her phone, lowered her head, and continued drawing. The charcoal pencil scratched across the paper with a rustling sound. Her expression was focused, as if she wasn’t angry at all.
The phone had no password. Lin Shan opened WeChat, scrolled through the contacts, found Fang Xiong, deleted him, and casually tossed the phone onto the table.
Lin Rong didn’t even look at the phone, as if she didn’t care at all that Lin Shan checked her phone.
“Time for dinner,” Lin Shan said slowly.
“Got it. I’ll finish this part of the drawing first.” Lin Rong looked intently at the painting in front of her. The green crystal bracelet on her wrist gently swayed with her movements. Her fingers were slender.
She was too well-behaved. Lin Shan couldn’t help but feel suspicious.
Since returning from Haicheng, Lin Rong had been incredibly obedient: not locking her room door, not locking her phone, and attending classes and socializing according to Lin Shan’s arrangements.
She was so well-behaved, as if…
She had forgotten everything about Haicheng.
Is she truly no longer in contact with that girl Xu Zhiyan?
Lin Shan was skeptical, but she had been secretly observing and investigating. It seemed like… there truly was no contact.
The weather, typical for early autumn, was suddenly hit by a “fall tiger,” causing the temperature to rise sharply these past two days, making it as hot and dry as summer again.
During the filming of the autumn/winter scenes, wearing long sleeves and trousers, they would break out in a sweat after just two rehearsals, feeling like steamed buns cooked inside a steamer.
During the set change, the logistics crew brought over cut watermelon.
Zhou Xintong emerged from the camera’s view, quickly unbuttoned her jacket, sat down abruptly, and ate a slice of watermelon, but still felt terribly hot.
She reached out and rolled up her long trousers, folding them up until they bunched near her thighs, revealing two fair legs.
Song Xiangwan was sitting in front of a fan, flipping through the script for the next scene. The fan blew her hair, and her forehead had a layer of fine sweat beads, but her expression was calm, as if she didn’t feel the heat. Her trousers hung neatly, covering the top of her cloth shoes.
“Sister Wan, aren’t you hot?” Zhou Xintong looked on, stunned.
“Not at all. A calm heart naturally cools you down. Your heart isn’t calm,” Song Xiangwan replied faintly.
Zhou Xintong: “…” After a moment of silence, she said: “Why don’t you roll up your pants? It’ll be a while before the set is ready. I’m melting.”
“No need,” Song Xiangwan shook her head, ate a bite of watermelon, and said with composure in her phoenix eyes, “I’m conservative and cautious. I can’t be like you.”
Zhou Xintong: “…” If she remembered correctly, this great invention of rolling up one’s pants all the way to the thigh to cool off was Song Xiangwan’s original idea two days ago.
Just yesterday, she was self-righteously claiming that restricting showing thighs was oppression and objectification, and that there was no such thing as being a “proper woman” now; everyone had the freedom to dress as they pleased.
Before long, Zhou Xintong realized why Song Xiangwan had suddenly changed her tune today.
While filming, she saw a black Rolls-Royce stop not far away. The car window rolled down, revealing a familiar profile.
When a cat suddenly behaves, there must be a reason.
As soon as Song Xiangwan finished her last scene, she happily got into the car and immediately threw herself into Ming Jin’s arms: “Ah Jin, you’re here!”
“Mhm,” Ming Jin touched her forehead; it was alarmingly warm. “This weather… how did Director Cheng arrange for you to wear such thick costumes?”
“The call sheet was set long ago. That’s how acting is. No one can control the weather.” Song Xiangwan lowered her head and sniffed herself, a little disgusted. “I think I smell sweaty, a little stinky…”
“No,” Ming Jin smiled lightly. “I don’t mind it. Why do you think you’re stinky?”
How could the kitten be stinky? The person she loved always felt that the kitten smelled fragrant.
“No, no, I have to take a shower.” Song Xiangwan couldn’t stand the thought of being with Ming Jin while smelling of sweat.
Fortunately, having the RV made showering very convenient.
After quickly taking a tactical shower, Song Xiangwan poked her head out. Seeing no one else in the RV, she ran out wearing just a small undershirt, without even putting on clothes.
She ran barefoot across the floor, rushed to the sofa, hugged Ming Jin, and rubbed against her, speaking cheerfully: “Smell me. Am I fragrant now?”
“Yes, yes, very fragrant,” Ming Jin agreed, her tone full of indulgence.
She waited for Song Xiangwan’s next sentence, but it didn’t come. Song Xiangwan didn’t continue talking; she just stared at her intently for a long, long time.
“What’s wrong? You haven’t seen me in a week, don’t you recognize me?” Ming Jin reached out and gently stroked her cheek, her gaze fixed on her face.
It had been a week since they last met, plus the few days in Longcheng before that. It had been nearly half a month.
“Have you been working very hard recently…” Song Xiangwan murmured softly, her hand falling beneath Ming Jin’s eyes, where there was a faint shadow.
Not only did her eyes look heavily fatigued, but her jawline seemed to have sharpened slightly. The few pounds she had gained after leaving the hospital seemed to be gone again.
“I’m fine, I just didn’t sleep well last night,” Ming Jin said softly, changing the subject. “Shall we go eat first? I’ve already made a reservation.”
“I don’t want to go,” Song Xiangwan grumbled, leaning in to kiss Ming Jin’s jaw. “I want to cling to you. Have them deliver the food to the hotel.”
The clingy cat didn’t want to let go for even a minute. Ming Jin agreed to her wishes: “Alright, I’ll have them deliver it.”
“Why couldn’t you sleep well?” Ming Jin thought the topic had been dropped, but Song Xiangwan brought it up again.
Meeting those intense phoenix eyes, Ming Jin tried to find an excuse.
Before she could speak, those phoenix eyes magnified right in front of her, looking at her with a smile, and kissing her lips: “Did you miss me?”
The restless fingertip landed on Ming Jin’s chest. With a flick, it unbuttoned the collar, then gently traced across her skin. A light, playful voice said: “You definitely missed me… If you missed me, why didn’t you wear my pajamas?”
Ming Jin grabbed her restless wrist, her breathing tightening slightly: “I don’t have a habit of wearing someone’s intimate clothing.”
“How do you know?” Song Xiangwan lightly licked her lips with her tongue, looking at Ming Jin, and smiling mischievously, “How do you know I haven’t worn your intimate clothing? Did you find out?”
Ming Jin’s gaze moved downwards. She reached out and hooked the narrow waistband of her shorts, gently pulling it taut, then letting go. The elastic band made a slight boing sound.
“Am I not allowed to wear them?” Song Xiangwan blinked. “Then I’ll take them off now, alright?”
She lifted her leg and rested it on Ming Jin’s knee, wiggling her toes slightly: “You can take them off now. I won’t resist.”
“We’re still on the set,” Ming Jin’s hand pressed onto the smooth knee, sliding upwards. It was soft and smooth like silk. She couldn’t help but lightly squeeze with her fingers.
“It’s okay. I can hold back from making a sound,” Song Xiangwan didn’t avoid it. Instead, she guided Ming Jin’s hand upwards, moving through the thin fabric.
“Stop fooling around,” Ming Jin squeezed hard, then pulled her hand back, taking a deep breath, and said: “Put your clothes on. Let’s go.”
The RV’s soundproofing was terrible. She didn’t want anyone to hear Song Xiangwan’s voice.
When they returned to the hotel, the food was already laid out on the table.
Song Xiangwan didn’t eat much herself. She kept watching Ming Jin eat, only feeling relieved when she saw Ming Jin take one bite after another.
After the meal, Ming Jin put down her chopsticks and leaned back on the sofa, looking at Song Xiangwan.
Song Xiangwan understood immediately. She lay down next to Ming Jin, holding a plate of cut fruit. She picked up a piece of cantaloupe and offered it to Ming Jin’s lips.
Just as Ming Jin opened her mouth, the cantaloupe darted away.
Song Xiangwan flipped over, changing from lying down to kneeling on the sofa. She tilted her head and looked at Ming Jin: “I think… this isn’t the right way to feed you…”
Eagerly, she straddled Ming Jin’s leg but didn’t sit down, just half-knelt, leaning close until their noses touched: “How about feeding you in my arms?”
Before the cantaloupe could be fed, her lips pressed against Ming Jin’s—a soft, yielding touch.
Her phoenix eyes were watery and alluring in an inexpressible way. Finally, the piece of cantaloupe was placed near Ming Jin’s lips again.
Just as Ming Jin bit into it, the lips opposite hers came down, biting the other half of the cantaloupe. She took a bite, then leaned forward, and their lips stacked together.
Song Xiangwan lost her balance and sat down abruptly. Her eyes widened. Her lips were caught and then pried open by the other’s force.
With an aggressive intensity, the remaining cantaloupe was seized.
A single hand unbuttoned her shirt. The tightness immediately eased. Song Xiangwan was too preoccupied to care: “I’m sitting on you…”
“It’s fine. You can sit,” Ming Jin pulled her hand free, gently patted her lower back, and said gently: “Take it off.”
She knew the cat’s nature. If she didn’t get what she wanted, she wouldn’t be satisfied.
Song Xiangwan lay on Ming Jin’s chest, not daring to use much force. She kissed Ming Jin’s neck repeatedly, her fingertips resting on the buttons of her collar.
She nimbly unbuttoned it, then slid inside, stroking her collarbone, and whispering softly: “Ah Jin, are you going to spoil me now?”
Their breaths intertwined. Her neck, tilting back, was slender and vulnerable. She offered her lifeline to Ming Jin’s lips. Her long hair cascaded down, the ends reaching her waist. Ming Jin’s hand was instantly wrapped in her hair. The fine, silky touch seemed to instantly absorb Song Xiangwan’s scent.
She gently kissed Song Xiangwan’s neck, her fingertips hooking the ends of Song Xiangwan’s hair, brushing them against her skin.
Stealing her clothes… well, they still had to be taken off and tossed aside by her.
Song Xiangwan’s kisses fell on Ming Jin’s fingertips. Each soft kiss seemed to intensify her breathing a little more.
Missing… missing Ah Jin… This thought almost instantly filled her heart.
A light sweat seemed to break out all over her body, radiating a scorching heat. She couldn’t hold back, nor did she want to. She let herself fall into Ming Jin’s arms.
A soft voice, brushing against Ming Jin’s ear with every breath: “Ah Jin, mmm… I really like… I really like you…”
This cat would declare her love wildly when excited.
Satiated, she turned over, revealing her softest belly, whispering softly, wanting more and more love.
They didn’t dare to set the air conditioning too low in the room, so both of them were hot now. Finally, the soft kisses, one after another, nipped at Ming Jin’s lips.
She curled up on the sofa, hugging Ming Jin’s waist, gently snuggling close. Her black hair lay across her fair skin, vaguely reflecting a reddish glow.
The cat was finally satisfied once. To be precise, she wasn’t fully satisfied, but Song Xiangwan didn’t push her luck; she was afraid of tiring Ming Jin out.
Happily, she went to the bathroom to change the water, then returned to hug Ming Jin and take her to the shower.
The warm water enveloped her skin. The scars felt slightly itchy from the heat, and then soft kisses landed on them.
Ming Jin tried to dodge, but the bathtub space was small, and she was firmly held in Song Xiangwan’s arms.
The restless hand stirred the water, causing ripples on the surface. Ming Jin felt her breathing tighten and instinctively grabbed Song Xiangwan’s hand: “Wanwan…”
“Don’t you want me?” Song Xiangwan leaned closer, kissing her lips, her voice softly alluring, “Doesn’t Ah Jin want me?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be gentle. We can take it slow, okay, Ah Jin?”
“I want to… Ah Jin… should we try it, okay?”
She wasn’t forceful, just sweet-talking her slowly. Her spoiled tone was wrapped in the thick steam, carrying a hint of softness.
The hand pressing on Song Xiangwan’s wrist slowly released, sliding up to gently rest on Song Xiangwan’s shoulder, and then, involuntarily, tightening slightly.
The subtly swaying water made Ming Jin feel a slight tremor throughout her soul.
It had been a long time since she had indulged herself like this.
After too long of abstinence, she couldn’t even control her uneven breathing or the suppressed sounds at her lips.
“Mmm…” Her lips were sealed with a kiss. Song Xiangwan’s kiss was very, very light, without any burden, bringing with it the thick moisture that blurred their vision.
Comfortable and refreshed, Song Xiangwan snuggled into Ming Jin for a long time before closing her eyes: “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.” The soft response was sincere. Lying close was enough for peace of mind.
Song Xiangwan was a little excited, or perhaps not quite satisfied. She lay there with her eyes closed for a while but couldn’t fall asleep.
Just as she was finally drifting off, the hand she was holding gently pulled away. It was very light, seemingly trying not to wake her.
The person next to her seemed to have turned over slightly.
Song Xiangwan’s eyes drowsily opened, and she instantly became fully awake.
In the dim light, the person with their back to her didn’t realize she was awake. The hand propping her up was pressing down heavily on her lower back.
Song Xiangwan immediately sat up, turned on the bedside lamp, and wrapped her arms around Ming Jin: “Ah Jin, Ah Jin… are you uncomfortable?”
“Why are you awake?” Ming Jin’s voice was soft and gentle, but her brow was slightly furrowed.
“Your back hurts?” Song Xiangwan reached out, placing her hand on the spot Ming Jin was pressing, and gently pressed. She felt the muscle beneath her palm tighten.
“Why does it hurt so much?” Song Xiangwan was a little frightened. Since the surgery, Ming Jin rarely experienced such intense back pain.
She couldn’t help but feel guilty, wondering if she had been a bit too rough in the bathtub just now.
“Did you bring anything for heat compression?” Song Xiangwan asked.
But even without asking, she knew the answer was likely no, as she hadn’t packed the suitcase.
The only option was to gently rub it with her hand.
“It’s fine. It has nothing to do with you,” Ming Jin softly reassured her. The force of Song Xiangwan’s massaging made her entire body tense up, and a faint whimper of pain escaped her lips.
Song Xiangwan quickly lightened her touch: “This isn’t working.”
She got up, went to the bathroom to get a basin of hot water, soaked a hot towel, and then climbed back into bed to embrace her: “If the heat is uncomfortable, you have to tell me.”
As the slightly hot towel was placed on her back, Song Xiangwan listened to Ming Jin’s uneven breathing, and her heart ached.
“It’s truly… nothing…” Ming Jin’s voice was low. The pain had drained her strength, but she continued: “It’s just some strain. It will be better after a few days of rest.”
It was just the recent travel fatigue and the heavy workload at the company. She had been busy non-stop and hadn’t been sleeping well at night.
“You didn’t even send me your follow-up checkup report from last week…” Song Xiangwan murmured softly, her voice slightly nasal.
“I’m such an irresponsible girlfriend. Even at a time like this, I was still pulling you into fooling around.” She regretted it, her heart filled with regret.
“I wanted to, Wanwan,” Ming Jin said softly, her lips curving into a slight smile as she was embraced in Song Xiangwan’s arms. “I like it…”
The grip around Ming Jin tightened slightly, pulling her closer into the embrace. Song Xiangwan’s voice was slightly muffled: “I don’t know anything…”
Ming Jin was about to comfort her when she felt pressure suddenly applied to her ear. Teeth pressed down, intending to bite, but she held back.
Song Xiangwan’s voice: “You’re going to make me so angry. How dare you hide this from me.”
She couldn’t bring herself to bite or hit her. Seeing her in pain made her heart ache so much that she couldn’t breathe, so she could only sulk.
“If I told you, you wouldn’t have let me come…” Ming Jin’s voice was soft.
“Wanwan, I wanted to see you.”
“If I don’t see you again, I truly will go crazy.”
Seeing each other through a phone screen every day seemed to only deepen her longing. She couldn’t sleep all night. When her back hurt too much to sleep, she felt wronged.
The spot next to her was empty and cold to the touch. She felt so wronged that she wanted to cry.
Ming Jin felt like she had become delicate. She had gotten through those three years before. She wouldn’t die without Song Xiangwan; she would still live a normal life…
But she felt so wronged. The desire to… to see her, even just once, overwhelmed all rationality.
