Chapter 62: Wanwan, I Hurt So Much…
When Song Xiangwan arrived, the atmosphere in the ward felt off. Lin Rong was leaning on her hand, yawning constantly, and Xu Zhiyan was glaring at her with displeasure.
Since she was worried about Ming Jin’s arm hurting, she had already hung up the video call. Ignoring the seemingly confrontational pair, she slipped between them to the bedside.
Ming Jin looked up, reaching out to take Song Xiangwan’s hand, feeling the slightly sticky sweat on her palm.
She must have run all the way. In the hot weather outside, her clothes were soaked through, and a fine layer of sweat beaded on her forehead.
She was slightly panting, her chest rising and falling. Her collarbone was gently moving, and her slightly flushed cheeks made the crimson beauty spot near her eye stand out vividly.
She didn’t even bother to wipe her sweat, just stared eagerly at Ming Jin: “Are you okay? Where does it hurt? Is Dr. Lin absolutely sure there are no problems?”
She glanced at Lin Rong, whose current state did not look reliable.
“I’m fine,” Ming Jin reassured her, gripping her fingers. She asked, “You haven’t eaten yet, have you? I asked Sister Qiu to prepare some light supper. It will arrive soon.”
“You should go take a shower first,” Ming Jin’s gaze fell on her sweat-drenched clothes. The thin, light gauze material clung to her body.
“Are you really okay?” Song Xiangwan was unconvinced.
Her heart was hanging by a thread, primarily because Ming Jin was never the type to admit she was uncomfortable.
“It’s fine,” Ming Jin’s eyes moved. She whispered, “Bend down. Come here.”
Song Xiangwan didn’t hesitate and bent her head down, feeling a gentle kiss land on her brow.
The smell of disinfectant, the faint fragrance of Ming Jin’s shampoo, mixed with the perfume on her own clothes, was not unpleasant. It was reassuring.
“You’re all sweaty. Go take a shower and cool off,” Ming Jin urged again.
Once in the bathroom, Song Xiangwan realized she hadn’t prepared her own clothes. Just as she was about to ask, she saw a neatly folded set of loungewear beside the sink.
She recognized them as Ming Jin’s clothes, likely prepared for her.
…
In the ward, Ming Jin looked at the two tense individuals: “Ayan, Wanwan is here now. You don’t need to stay and guard. You have work tomorrow. Get some rest early.”
“Then I’ll go rest too…” Lin Rong waved her hand and stood up.
With a long stride, she stepped out. Xu Zhiyan still had some words of instruction but didn’t have time to say them. Afraid Lin Rong would escape, she hurriedly followed her out.
Xu Zhiyan followed her out and immediately grabbed Lin Rong’s arm: “Wait a minute.”
“What is it?” Lin Rong turned her head, her eyes hazy with sleepiness. “I already apologized to you. Don’t be so petty.”
“It’s not about that. I have something to ask you,” Xu Zhiyan said. “What exactly is your…”
She wanted to ask, What exactly is your situation?
She clearly felt Lin Rong’s recent instability—abnormal behavior, abnormal body temperature, and those inappropriate touches.
When she first found her, she was in this state. She had been quite well-controlled for the past three years. What was wrong now?
“I’m sleepy. Come to my room and ask slowly,” Lin Rong interrupted her and turned to leave.
The bright, white light in the hospital corridor fell on Lin Rong’s white coat, resting on her shoulder, making her look tall and slender.
A slight air of isolation emanated from her, as if she were walking alone through a long river, a solitary figure moving forward.
Her condition was so unstable… didn’t she have any family to take care of her?
After knowing her for so many years, she really seemed to… have no family.
Xu Zhiyan realized this belatedly and hurried to follow her.
Lin Rong’s rest area was a patient room opened on the same floor. Lin Rong walked in, sat on the sofa, and poured herself a cup of strong tea.
Her long fingers massaged the rim of the white porcelain teacup. The curling steam enveloped her eyes and eyebrows. Her smooth, jade-like fingers disappeared into the mist.
Strong tea was used to keep her awake.
But she had also taken sedatives.
This person was clearly not treating herself as a human being, a demanding madwoman.
“Do you have any questions? Ask them,” her smoky brows lifted slightly. Her eyelashes curved subtly, and her eyes looked lazy.
“Your recent condition, and that year in Germany…” Xu Zhiyan wanted to know what her situation truly was.
But her question was only half-asked when the phone in her pocket rang. It was a call from a company Vice President.
So late… Xu Zhiyan frowned and said, “I need to take this call. Wait for me.”
She turned and left. The call wasn’t long, regarding an urgent matter about a project. It took only three to five minutes to finish the general discussion.
When she pushed the door open to re-enter, the person sitting on the sofa was already asleep, leaning against the cushion, her long hands resting casually on her lap.
The strong tea was still steaming. The woman half-reclining on the sofa was breathing steadily. Stray hairs fell along her temples, gently moving with her breath.
Xu Zhiyan sighed, crouched by the sofa, and whispered, “Hey, wake up. Go sleep in the bed.”
The sleeping person didn’t react. Xu Zhiyan reached out to pat her shoulder, but Lin Rong suddenly slumped over. Xu Zhiyan quickly reached out to catch her.
She knocked over the teacup. The tea flowed down her trousers, but fortunately, it was only lukewarm, so it shouldn’t cause a burn.
Her actions froze because, for an instant, she held a soft cloud in her arms.
Lin Rong completely fell into her embrace. In the summer, the clothing was thin. Through the two layers of fabric, she could clearly feel the warmth of Lin Rong’s skin, soft and pressed against her chest.
“Wake up…” Xu Zhiyan whispered, taking a deep breath, and reached out to hug Lin Rong’s waist.
Her waist was so slender, so soft, with smooth lines and distinct dimples. Lin Rong leaned her head on Xu Zhiyan’s shoulder, her faint breath against Xu Zhiyan’s neck.
Xu Zhiyan failed to pick her up. Using some leverage, she managed to ease her down to lie on the sofa.
She sighed heavily. Forget it. I’ll ask next time.
As she got up, she noticed the medicine box in the trash can next to the coffee table. After an internal struggle, she bent down, picked it up, and took a photo.
The sofa wasn’t wide. Lin Rong’s legs were half dangling, looking crooked, making her posture seem awkward.
“Seriously…” Xu Zhiyan gritted her teeth. “Just consider this repaying your kindness for treating my illness.”
She crouched down, removed Lin Rong’s shoes, and grasped Lin Rong’s ankle with one hand. It was a very slender ankle. Her calf was very pale, like smooth, flawless jade.
She carefully positioned Lin Rong’s feet, then quickly pulled her hand back as if shocked. She took a white coat from the rack, covered the sleeping woman, and hurried away.
…
When Song Xiangwan emerged from her shower, the late-night snack had also arrived: vegetable salad, plus a cup of low-sugar smoothie. This was clearly Ming Jin’s specific instruction.
At this hour, a female celebrity wouldn’t eat too much, but if she ate nothing, Ming Jin would worry about her stomach hurting.
Song Xiangwan was wearing Ming Jin’s loungewear, which was one size too big, making it loose and baggy.
There was no one else in the room, so she didn’t bother to button it properly. The top two buttons were open, and with every movement of her hands, half of her collarbone and upper chest were clearly exposed.
She ate while complaining about the events of the day.
The morning launch event’s spotlight was aimed directly at her face, making it hard to keep her eyes open.
The embarrassment of another brand ambassador on stage who misread the model name of the car, which went viral before the press conference even ended.
A group of fans was trying to clean up the mess, claiming their “gege” just had poor Mandarin, that it was an accent and a slip of the tongue, not a failure to prepare.
Ming Jin listened to her complaints with a gentle smile, quietly hearing her speak. Song Xiangwan’s animated expression was like a kitten purring around a person’s legs.
“Are you tired?” Song Xiangwan’s complaints stopped abruptly. She felt she was a bit too eager to share with Ming Jin.
She couldn’t be blamed. This kind of behind-the-scenes gossip definitely needed a trusted person to share with, and she trusted Ming Jin completely.
“No, I rested very well today.” Ming Jin beckoned, “Come here.”
Song Xiangwan hurried over, only to see Ming Jin squeeze over to one side. The hint of pain in her brow flashed away, and her tone was normal: “Come up. Lie down and keep talking.”
Song Xiangwan took off her shoes and got onto the bed, curling up in the corner, hugging Ming Jin’s arm, and gently rubbing against it.
“Not talking anymore?” Ming Jin asked, lightly stroking Song Xiangwan’s hair.
“There was also that Chen Fengyue this afternoon. She asked me so many questions that weren’t in the outline. She almost made me reveal everything.”
“She even asked me if I’ve ever dated, what my ideal type is, and if I’ve imagined what my other half looks like…”
“What did you say?” Ming Jin asked.
“Ah Jin…” Song Xiangwan hugged Ming Jin’s waist, looking up, staring at Ming Jin with sparkling eyes. “Why don’t we go public?”
“Every time they ask me questions like that, I have to make things up on the spot.”
“I don’t dare describe you, afraid they’ll figure something out. And I have to remember what I said last time so I don’t contradict myself.”
“It’s so tiring.”
“Why don’t we go public?” Song Xiangwan was full of anticipation. “It won’t affect my career. Didn’t the fans accept the ‘roommate’ sister last time?”
The underlying issue was the same: she wanted to declare to everyone, especially her family, that she had a loved one.
The light brown eyes met her phoenix eyes. Ming Jin was almost melted by the passion and initiative in them, her face obediently waiting for her to nod.
But… Ming Jin felt a constriction in her throat. She turned her head away from Song Xiangwan and coughed a few muffled times.
The slight vibration caused the unhealed wound to rip open with pain, and the color instantly drained from her face.
“Ah Jin…” Song Xiangwan was startled. She immediately scrambled up, half-lying on the bed, reaching out to support Ming Jin’s back, gently patting her to soothe her breathing.
“I’m fine,” Ming Jin turned back, gently shaking her head. Her voice already had less energy than before.
“Let’s talk about it later…” She vaguely side-stepped the topic.
Song Xiangwan’s phone vibrated in her pocket. She wasn’t in a hurry to retrieve it. When she saw Ming Jin’s complexion improve, she reached for it, but the vibration had already stopped.
It was an unfamiliar number, a local Haicheng number.
It vibrated again, the call coming through once more.
Song Xiangwan seemed to realize something immediately. She hung up, put it on silent, and flipped the phone face down on the bedside table.
“Your Auntie’s call?” Ming Jin asked. “If you don’t go back this late, she’ll worry.”
“You should go back soon…” As soon as Ming Jin said this, she seemed unable to control herself again, pressing her fingers to her lips, followed by a series of muffled coughs.
Her current body couldn’t handle this kind of strain. The pain completely wiped the color from her face, and even her arm was trembling slightly.
“What’s wrong?” Song Xiangwan was anxious, helping her catch her breath, then getting off the bed to bring warm water, holding it to Ming Jin’s lips and watching her swallow sip by sip.
She was extremely worried: “Why are you coughing? Should I call the doctor to take a look?”
“No need,” Ming Jin frowned slightly. After a few sips of warm water, the cough subsided, and some color returned to her face. She just said, “You should go back soon.”
“How can I feel at ease?” Song Xiangwan immediately said. “I’m not going back. I’ll stay here tonight.”
As for her family, she could just call and let them know. Anyway, she had an assistant accompanying the two elders, so she wasn’t worried about them.
“The bed is too narrow…” Ming Jin looked around, frowning slightly.
A brief hug was fine, but if Song Xiangwan slept here all night, she wouldn’t want to press against her, so her arms and legs would have nowhere to rest.
“That’s a small problem. I’ll find a nurse and push another bed over to put together,” Song Xiangwan lowered her head and lightly kissed Ming Jin’s lips, her eyes full of love: “Wait for me. I’ll be right back.”
Her wrist was gently grabbed. Ming Jin’s gaze was somewhat helpless, and she softly reminded her: “Buttons.”
…
The two beds were pushed together, and the side rails were lowered, making it feel like a slightly smaller double bed.
Song Xiangwan lay on her side, staring at Ming Jin, gently wrapping her arms around her. This is nice. It’s like going back to the old days.
She slept very well that night. When she woke up the next morning, she heard birds chirping outside the window.
Song Xiangwan helped her wash her face and brush her teeth, then fed her breakfast bite by bite.
Ming Jin was exceptionally obedient today, not suggesting she wanted to do anything herself.
Song Xiangwan had no work today, so she turned on the TV, cuddling with Ming Jin to watch an old movie.
Ming Jin had an IV line inserted in her hand. The fluid in the drip bag dropped one drop at a time. Song Xiangwan held her hand and placed it on her lower abdomen.
“Didn’t we watch this movie before?” Ming Jin remembered.
“Yes, at the open-air cinema field at our school. It was the school anniversary that day,” Song Xiangwan said.
It was a romance film with two female leads. Because it was an old movie, it was filmed very subtly, following a platonic friendship line, with hardly any intimate scenes.
The only intimate scene was when the two fell into icy water, climbed ashore, lit a bonfire, and hugged tightly for warmth.
Under a full moon, surrounded by a snowy white landscape, there was only the bonfire and the two people closely nestled together. The scene was beautiful and romantic.
“I heard they’re planning a remake of this movie,” Ming Jin looked at Song Xiangwan. “You like this movie. Do you want to act in it?”
If she wanted the role, Ming Jin would certainly secure it and bring it to her.
Song Xiangwan blinked: “Are you planning to act?”
“What do you mean?” Ming Jin asked.
“Compared to the earlier conservative version, a modern remake will surely feature the romantic scenes heavily, well beyond the original scale.”
Song Xiangwan mumbled, “I don’t want to do intimate scenes with anyone else.”
As she spoke, she leaned over with a smile and gently kissed Ming Jin’s lips, her eyes twinkling: “I’m yours. I don’t want to hug anyone else.”
Ming Jin’s lips couldn’t help but curve upwards. She nodded: “Okay, whatever you wish.”
The day was exceptionally leisurely.
They just watched movies, ate together, and chatted together. There was nothing else to do, as if time had slowed down.
The two elders were also enjoying their group tour and sent many photos in the small group chat.
They couldn’t see the sea in their hometown county, and the sea view here was exceptionally good. The weather was clear today, the water a clear blue, dotted with a few light, white clouds. White waves trailed behind the boat, and a flock of seagulls chased the boat’s wake, soaring and dipping.
There were not only scenic photos but also hundreds of photos of the two elders together and alone. It was clear they were very happy.
Song Xiangwan was generous with her praise, commenting favorably in the chat group several times.
It seemed that everything was calm and peaceful.
Until dinner time, when Song Xiuyun called again: “Wanwan, Little Hu said you didn’t go to the restaurant last night?”
“Mhm. I didn’t finish recording the interview program yesterday. I finished late, almost midnight. I’ll make another appointment when I have time.”
The standard “next time for sure” of young people.
“Little Hu also owns a company. It’s not easy for him to clear his schedule to meet you.”
Hearing this, Song Xiangwan felt relieved: “No rush, no rush. We’ll talk when he’s free.”
It was all about stalling. Keep stalling until the other side grew impatient.
“But at least call him back and apologize,” Song Xiuyun instructed. “You shouldn’t be too impolite.”
“Got it,” Song Xiangwan agreed, then immediately dismissed it. Why call? Being impolite was the point. If the other party had any sense, they would know what was going on.
But she clearly underestimated the persistence of this CEO Hu and overestimated his emotional intelligence.
In the evening, as she was watching the latest episode of the Dance Arena spin-off show with Ming Jin, her phone rang again. It was the same local Haicheng number from last night.
Song Xiangwan hesitated. Before she could hang up, the person next to her leaned over and grasped her wrist.
Her hand was pulled down, and the phone fell onto the bed. Ming Jin shifted her body closer to Song Xiangwan, wincing in pain.
Song Xiangwan was startled. She immediately helped her lie down: “Don’t move. Just tell me what you want to do…”
“Kiss me,” those light brown eyes stared at Song Xiangwan. Her thumb pressed down on Song Xiangwan’s wrist, tightening and gently rubbing.
“Ah Jin…” Song Xiangwan frowned slightly. She was hesitant. She worried about Ming Jin’s health. Her heart was still recovering.
“Wanwan…” She murmured softly, seeming to try to lift her head. The sudden movement made her expression tense, her lips tightly pressed.
Song Xiangwan lowered her head, helped settle Ming Jin’s head onto the pillow, and then planted a gentle kiss on her slightly cool lips.
Initially, she thought it would be a fleeting kiss, but Ming Jin opened her mouth, her tongue reaching out, parting Song Xiangwan’s lips.
It was a kiss where Song Xiangwan was positioned above. Her hand was pressed against the side of Ming Jin’s neck. She leaned over, gently opened her lips and teeth, and responded to the lingering kiss.
Ming Jin had wanted to take the lead completely, but being ill, her strength failed her. The cat on the opposite side invaded, driving straight in, enveloping and intertwining.
The soft sound of their mingling, the intense heat swallowed down their throats, caused both their breaths to hitch.
But Song Xiangwan had a limit in her heart. The kiss didn’t last long. She pulled away, gently wiping Ming Jin’s cheek with her thumb. She whispered, “Ah Jin…”
Ming Jin’s eyes seemed to flicker with slight avoidance. She said softly, “Don’t look. I look pale. I’ve become ugly.”
She lacked confidence. She was always insecure. She worried that others wouldn’t accept her pallor and imperfections.
But as soon as the words left her mouth, her nose was gently nipped. The little cat’s voice was slightly displeased: “You’re doubting me again. I’m punishing you.”
Her angry phoenix eyes stared at her: “It seems I need to start a ledger and keep a good account of these things. When you’re well, we’ll settle them all.”
“How will you… settle them…” Ming Jin regulated her breathing, feeling the burning love in those phoenix eyes.
“Like this…” Song Xiangwan lowered her head, her kiss landing on the side of Ming Jin’s neck. Then, she opened her mouth and gently bit her.
Song Xiangwan paused, worried she had hurt her, and then gently licked over the spot with her tongue.
Initially, she only intended to lick the tooth mark, but the area gradually expanded, shifting to her throat and then gently tracing her collarbone.
It was absolutely killing her. Ming Jin suppressed her breathing, her fingers tightening the fabric she was grasping.
She didn’t resist. She even tilted her head back, offering more space for the cat to bite and nibble.
In the slightly reclined posture, a patch of white neck was exposed. Now, because of the nibbling and licking, there were faint red marks. The contrast of red and white was stunningly beautiful.
Song Xiangwan’s chin rested lightly on Ming Jin’s shoulder, closing her eyes and breathing in her scent.
This person was completely unaware of her own seductive power, always underestimating herself. But Song Xiangwan was the one who was always so captivated that she wanted to melt into this person’s arms.
“Did I bite you too hard?” Song Xiangwan asked softly.
Ming Jin shook her head, not speaking, just holding Song Xiangwan and leaning into her.
The phone, which had fallen somewhere, started vibrating again. It was still the local Haicheng number.
“Wanwan…” Ming Jin spoke, her voice laced with shaky breaths. “Are you still leaving tonight?”
Normally, she should.
Ming Jin rubbed her brow against Song Xiangwan, her voice light, affectionate, and dependent: “Wanwan, I hurt so much…”
Ming Jin shook her head, allowing herself to be sheltered in Song Xiangwan’s arms. She whispered, “It really hurts so much. I’ve been hurting for three years. I thought I’d be better off dead.”
“Wanwan, I hurt so much. I feel so wronged. Why me?” Her voice was slightly incoherent, heavy with deep fragility and swaying emotion.
Song Xiangwan’s heart shattered like porcelain dropped from a great height.
The person who usually only frowned and made her heartache was now in her arms, tearfully saying she hurt so much. Song Xiangwan felt like she was dying of heartache.
The strength she had layered on for three years peeled away layer by layer in this moment. She exposed her most genuine fears and vulnerability completely.
