- The Omega's Vow: Never Marry a Mama's Boy Alpha
- Chapter 2 - The Engagement Must Be Broken Off Even for Child Marriage
“Miss Wen, forgive my bluntness, but your actions were too impulsive.”
After completing the detailed report, Officer Bi Yu couldn’t help voicing her thoughts aloud.
In that situation, even if Butler Li was just a beta, his physical fitness and muscle strength would have been more than enough to handle two omegas.
Although they only wanted to know where the remaining Wen family assets were hidden and had nothing to do with the two car accidents, there was still the fear that the criminals might choose to go down fighting and kidnap the siblings. If that happened, the outcome would be truly unpredictable.
Wen Yan sat quietly on the sofa, her eyelids lowered, long delicate eyelashes concealing the emotions in her pupils. Her hands tightly clutched her handbag, knuckles turning white from the force.
This restrained and self-blaming posture made Bi Yu reluctant to criticize her further. She quietly observed this wealthy young lady, her heart aching unbearably at the thought that this beautiful, delicate woman had just lost both parents and had narrowly escaped death herself.
“What are your plans now?”
If even long-time family servants dared to defy and bully their masters for the Wen family’s assets, how much more dangerous were those covetous relatives of the same clan? As the heir to the estate, Wen Yan was essentially alone and without support in the capital.
Wen Yan looked up, her expression desolate. Bi Yu had helped her multiple times; even the medical expenses from her emergency hospital treatment after the car accident had been advanced by this delicate-looking omega police officer. To Wen Yan, Bi Yu could be considered a true friend in this world.
Wen Industries had already gone bankrupt, the massive enterprise riddled with problems. The company’s assets mortgaged to the bank were frozen. All that remained of what Wen Yan’s parents left her was just over two hundred thousand in cash and the Wen family villa.
“I want to sell the villa. My brother and I don’t need such a large house to live in.”
“The company has already filed for bankruptcy protection, so it has nothing to do with me anymore.”
“I’ll take my brother to buy another property where we can live together.”
Bi Yu handed her a cup of tea, feeling slightly relieved. “That might be for the best. Living anonymously will help you avoid unwanted attention.”
Both car accident scenes showed nothing unusual. The driver in the first accident was a truck driver who had been fatigued while driving on the highway and collided head-on with the Wens’ vehicle, dying instantly himself.
The second accident was subtly strange. Surveillance footage showed the driver had appeared in the accident area for several consecutive days beforehand. The driver explained that his job involved ride-sharing, frequently picking up passengers from the airport and bringing them back to the city. While this explanation was reasonable, when investigators looked into the suspect’s family background particularly after learning his omega spouse had cancer requiring expensive chemotherapy Bi Yu couldn’t dismiss the two accidents as mere coincidences.
Someone was targeting the Wen family, striking decisively with ruthless methods.
With the enemy hidden and themselves exposed, it was indeed best for Wen Yan to take Wen Xiu away from the villa and start a new life.
“What about career plans?”
Bi Yu set down her teacup and adjusted the office air conditioning to a warmer setting, having noticed Wen Yan’s slight shiver earlier.
It was summer, and Wen Yan was dressed lightly in a strapped daisy-print maxi dress, her fair shoulders, neck and back exuding a tropical beach vibe.
She’d heard that Wen Yan had been studying abroad, majoring in oil painting. Now that she had returned to the country, was she planning to become a painter and hold exhibitions?
“I want to become an actress.”
Bi Yu received an unbelievable answer, her usually composed expression slightly cracking.
“Being a painter is too unstable, and the domestic oil painting market isn’t very promising. A Xiu is still young taking him to Florence might make him struggle to adapt and unhappy.”
“Then, have you had any experience in the film and entertainment industry before?” Bi Yu probed cautiously.
Wen Yan revealed a confident smile. “I was fortunate enough to have played a few minor roles before.”
Just not in this world. But in terms of experience and acting skills, Wen Yan was quite seasoned.
“Have you signed with any agency?”
“No.”
Based on her past life’s experiences, Wen Yan wasn’t keen on signing with an agency, the drawbacks were too many. First, there was endless exploitation and unfair profit distribution. Second, there was a complete lack of choice and basic rights; artists without influence were entirely at the mercy of their agents and companies. Lastly, there were the excessively long contract terms, typically starting at ten years. Whether an artist soared to fame or remained obscure, if they wanted to terminate the contract, they’d face a formidable legal team and exorbitant breach penalties.
Some industry insiders even joked that this was the biggest source of income for entertainment agencies.
It wasn’t that there were no ethical companies or top-tier agents, but the chances were slim comparable to winning the lottery.
She had suffered before, bruised and battered. Now that she had the means, she was no longer willing to be controlled by others.
After the case was closed, Wen Yan took Wen Xiu back to the villa, stuffed the asset documents and important certificates from the safe into a suitcase, and then drove to the apartment in the city center.
The apartment was located in the upscale community, Green Garden, with convenient transportation and strict security. Valued at millions, it was a gift from Wen Yan’s parents for her coming of age.
“After all, for an omega, owning a home gives you confidence.”
“It’s a sense of security even a lover can’t provide.”
In her memory, it seemed someone had said this to her, affectionate and indulgent.
Pushing open the door, the living room was spacious and tidy, with a forest-themed decor that clearly reflected the original owner’s taste. For some reason, Wen Yan felt like crying.
She had died once and lived twice, yet she had no fate with parental love.
“Sister!”
Wen Xiu seemed to sense something and tugged at the hem of Wen Yan’s clothes. She looked down to see her younger brother gazing at her timidly.
Their features were quite similar both had slender willow-leaf eyebrows and deep, peach-blossom eyes. Standing together, it was obvious they were close siblings.
She had essentially gained a little brother for free, a little follower.
Wen Yan sighed inwardly, her mood lifting slightly.
A follower was fine at least she wasn’t alone.
Over the next week, Wen Yan was swamped with endless tasks. First, moving, then transporting the body from the hospital to the crematorium for a simple funeral. Throughout this, she also had to deal with distant relatives with ill intentions, often hanging up after just a few words when the conversation turned sour, direct and unceremonious.
By the time the villa was sold and the company acquired, it was already the end of the month.
Only then did Wen Yan have the time and energy to consider the matter of breaking off the engagement.
Her engagement to that Fifth Miss Gu was an arranged marriage from childhood, originating from their respective grandfathers. They had been longtime classmates and comrades-in-arms, sharing a deep bond.
After marriage, the two had discussed forming a marital alliance. Unfortunately, their firstborns were both sons, and their secondary genders were both alphas. So, Old Master Gu set his sights on the Wen family’s second child.
Wen Yan’s grandmother had a frail constitution and never conceived again after that. This wish for an arranged marriage was then passed down to the grandchildren.
Old Master Gu passed away early, and before his departure, he gave his personal medal of merit to the Wen family, stating that as long as a child with a compatible secondary gender appeared, the marriage pact would be considered established.
Old Master Wen agreed and left the medal to Wen Yan’s father, passing away not long after.
The Wen family valued their reputation; once they promised Old Master Gu, they would honor it. The year the fifth young lady of the Gu family was born, the entire nation was abuzz. The headline news of actress Ye Lan marrying into a wealthy family and finally giving birth to an alpha dominated all media platforms, sweeping the top spots in every news section.
Wen Yan’s father sent his congratulations and then handed the medal to Wen Yan, who was only two years old at the time.
“Yan Yan, do you see that?”
“That is your fiancée.”
“She is the one who will cherish and love you in the future.”
“She is your alpha.”
The medal felt heavy in her hand. Wen Yan seemed to sense the weight of Old Master Gu’s dying wish, as well as the strength of her grandfather and father’s commitment to their promise.
If she were truly the Wen Yan of this world, she might have chosen to follow this arranged marriage and marry the fifth young lady of the Gu family, whom she had never met.
But she was not.
The fifth young lady of the Gu family was not a suitable match, and she would not gamble with her emotions and future happiness.
Moreover, from the decline of the Wen family to the death of her parents, the Gu family had shown no concern, hardly behaving like future in-laws. Whether the Gu family even acknowledged this marriage pact remained uncertain.
Still, she had to pay a visit to the Gu family. First, to gauge their stance and confirm their attitude toward this ancestral arranged marriage. Second, to seek shelter under a powerful tree whether it was her nominal future mother-in-law, Ye Lan, or the Gu family’s vast entertainment company, both could provide Wen Yan with substantial support.
The most desirable outcome would be for the Gu family to reject the marriage pact and, as compensation, introduce her to outstanding directors and producers.
After envisioning all possible outcomes in her mind, Wen Yan let out a long sigh.
She looked at the string of numbers on the paper contact list and dialed the phone.
