The Omega Who Canceled the Engagement Ended Up Falling for Me - Chapter 21
“Do you have any thoughts?”
Fu Shuang had just tossed her yogurt carton into the trash when she suddenly heard Xu Qing asking her.
The two of them weren’t far apart. Xu Qing was standing under a streetlamp, backlit, her expression somewhat blurred; to Fu Shuang, it seemed as if she were smiling.
What thoughts?
Does thinking about kissing you count?
Fu Shuang felt like a kindergarten student who had suddenly learned how to solve a first-grade math problem, feeling an eager urge to try her hand at an unknown field—
If I could land her, it would definitely be cool.
She’s very beautiful, isn’t she?
Fu Shuang considered herself someone who hadn’t encountered a beauty greater than herself—and even if she had, she wouldn’t admit it—but Xu Qing wore almost no makeup. Her skin was very pale, the bridge of her nose was perfectly high, and her eyes were the most profound feature of her face. Her hair, eyebrows, and irises were all a glossy, ink-like black. This blackness looked exceptionally transparent whether in sunlight or under a streetlamp; as long as she showed the slightest hint of a smile, her entire being appeared extraordinarily gentle.
Moreover, she had a great figure. Standing over 170cm tall, she looked thin, but she had abs where there should be abs. Occasionally, when she raised her arm, she would reveal beautiful, full shoulder muscles and triceps, brimming with power and explosive potential.
Actually, Fu Shuang should have realized it long ago! On that first day in the bar when Xu Qing had fought for her, she should have realized that this Alpha sister was completely her type!
Damn it, why am I only realizing this now?
Fu Shuang felt a bit annoyed, but she quickly swept this negative emotion away. Instead, she became smug because she possessed a secret.
She had always been someone very good at regulating her emotions. If she encountered a setback in something, it was definitely someone else’s fault, the environment’s fault, or a societal issue; it had nothing to do with her.
If she doesn’t like me, it just proves there’s something wrong with her—she’s either blind or brain-dead.
Her thoughts finished organizing themselves in a very short amount of time. Fu Shuang narrowed her eyes, looked at Xu Qing, and said, “Sister, you’re asking if I have any thoughts? Do you mean my thoughts about you, or my thoughts about what happened today?”
Proactively attack, observe the opponent’s reaction—if she hesitates at all, it means she has a guilty conscience!
While observing her, Fu Shuang shifted her steps; she could see the other’s facial expressions better from a different angle.
Although Xu Qing’s complexion was pale, perhaps because of long-term exercise, she usually showed a healthy flush. Therefore, even if Fu Shuang saw a faint crimson on her face, she couldn’t easily draw a conclusion. The key was to look at her eyes.
Their eyes met, as if they were playing a game of “One, Two, Three, No Laughing.” However, Xu Qing’s opponent was clearly several levels above her. Fu Shuang stared at Xu Qing like a curious cat—and who had ever seen a cat laugh?
Sure enough, Xu Qing lost the battle. With a “pfft,” she started laughing uncontrollably.
“What are you laughing at?” Fu Shuang was quite annoyed.
“I surrender,” Xu Qing raised both hands, lowering her head and holding back her laughter as she said, “Stop staring at me, okay?”
Is it that obvious?
Fu Shuang grumbled in her heart and said softly, “You asked me first.”
“Answering a question with a question is a politician’s tactic,” Xu Qing took an unopened pack of cigarettes from her pocket and asked, “Can I smoke one?”
“This is the main road, do as you please,” Fu Shuang’s gaze fell on the hand Xu Qing used to hold the cigarette. After a moment, she said, “Give me one too.”
Xu Qing looked at her in surprise. “Do you know how?”
“Everyone knows how to smoke, do you think I haven’t done it before?” Fu Shuang snorted. “Sorry, sister, I might not be the kind of good kid you imagine.”
“I know,” Xu Qing handed her a cigarette and said in a gentle tone, “You are very naughty.”
With the cigarette in her mouth, Fu Shuang smiled in a way that was both fierce and cute, leaning her head toward Xu Qing.
With a click, the flame illuminated that overly adorable face. Xu Qing lowered her head and lit the cigarette for her, as if serving a queen.
“Cough.” Unsurprisingly, Fu Shuang was choked by the smoke, and fine tears rippled in her pale eyes.
Xu Qing smiled but said nothing.
Fu Shuang held the cigarette in her hand and didn’t continue smoking. She glanced at Xu Qing and said, “Have you… eaten dinner?”
Xu Qing exhaled a breath of air and said faintly, “I bought some groceries, waiting for you to come home and cook.”
The phrase “waiting for you to come home and cook” was ambiguous—did it mean waiting for Fu Shuang to return so Xu Qing could cook for her, or waiting for Fu Shuang to come home so she could do the cooking?
Regardless of the interpretation, it already proved that Xu Qing recognized a fact: she and Fu Shuang were now “meal buddies.”
At least on this point, she and Fu Shuang thought the same.
“What did you buy?” Fu Shuang said with rare ease.
Xu Qing: “Green vegetables, carrots—all the things you love to eat.”
This sounded a bit strange, and Fu Shuang wasn’t quite satisfied: “I’m not a rabbit. I love so many things, why do you only remember these two?”
Xu Qing laughed. “These two are easier to remember. However, the kitchen at home hasn’t seen a fire in a long time, and I haven’t tried it. I didn’t know when you would get off work—what if you stayed out overnight again without saying a word?”
“Okay, I’m really sorry about last night,” Fu Shuang took a puff of the cigarette, her spirit gradually relaxing as she inhaled. She explained, “I got off work quite late yesterday and just happened to run into an Omega friend in her heat. She called and asked me to accompany her. I didn’t plan to stay overnight at her place at first, but when I got there, I found her situation was even more serious than I imagined. You can imagine it based on how many people had accidents today.”
“Yes,” Xu Qing lowered her head and gave a faint smile. “But I don’t understand. You’re an O too, how could you help her?”
“Spiritual comfort,” Fu Shuang curled her lip. “It’s still much better to have a friend by your side when you’re in pain.”
“What about you,” Xu Qing said casually, trying her best to make the question seem less deliberate, “If you encounter this situation, what do you plan to do? You’re not still going to work, are you?”
“Yes, going to work is a must. I hope my luck is better and it falls on a weekend—oh, but I have a part-time job on the weekends too,” Fu Shuang made a face at Xu Qing. “When the time comes, I’ll just spend money to hire someone for a temporary mark. That’s what my best friend does.”
The cigarette burned down to Xu Qing’s hand. She suddenly reacted, saying with a look of astonishment, “There’s actually that kind of transaction?”
“Where there is demand, there will be a market,” Fu Shuang smiled wickedly, staring at Xu Qing and saying playfully, “For someone as good-looking as you, sister, I wonder how much one night would cost.”
Xu Qing pinched out the hot cigarette butt, her breathing slightly erratic. She glanced at the ground, then looked up at Fu Shuang and said, “How much?”
As if possessed, Fu Shuang stretched out four fingers.
Xu Qing’s eyes were sincere: “…Four figures?”
Seeing the starlight in her eyes, Fu Shuang regretted starting this topic. It was meant to be a flirtatious remark, so how did Xu Qing end up taking it seriously?
There are many things in the world that cannot be measured by money.
“Four Ws (40,000),” Fu Shuang hurriedly avoided Xu Qing’s gaze, adding as a cover-up, “There might be a price, but no supply.”
“Haha, what a clumsy lie,” Xu Qing pursed her lips, her smile like floating flowers on rippling water, beautiful to the point of being unreal. “But I’ll take that as a compliment from you. Next time, if you need my help, I’ll give you a satisfying discount based on that number.”
Fu Shuang’s eyes widened slightly, thinking to herself: I messed up; the price I quoted was too high.
