The Omega Who Canceled the Engagement Ended Up Falling for Me - Chapter 15
It was nearly midnight, and a barbecue stall downstairs in the community was still open for business. A young lad brandished skewers, sprinkling cumin and chili powder over them as the rising smoke carried an irresistible aroma.
About a dozen outdoor tables were set up in front of the shop. Aside from Xu Qing and Fu Shuang, there were other young people out late for skewers and beer, though most were male; there weren’t even many Omegas to be seen.
While Xu Qing and Fu Shuang were ordering at the front counter, several men who had been drinking whistled at them. Fu Shuang was a bit startled and gripped Xu Qing’s arm nervously, while Xu Qing gave them a fierce, warning glare.
Halfway through ordering, Xu Qing asked for Fu Shuang’s opinion: “Should we take it upstairs to eat?”
Fu Shuang said unwillingly, “The weather is so nice, it’s a bit of a waste not to eat here. Besides, there are so many empty seats; we shouldn’t let them ruin our mood.”
Ever the strong-willed one, Fu Shuang had almost wanted to give those whistling guys a piece of her mind, but since Xu Qing was there, she had to maintain her act of being “terrified.”
Giving in and leaving was absolutely out of the question for her.
“The weather is indeed very nice tonight.” Xu Qing looked up and could see the full moon behind the tall buildings. The night sky was clear and cloudless, a deep shade of blue, and the temperature was comfortable—perfect for outdoor skewers. She looked at Fu Shuang with an appreciative gaze and said in a soothing tone, “It’s fine. Pick a seat and sit down; you don’t need to be afraid with me here.”
Fu Shuang hummed in response and chose a spot neither too close nor too far from that group. As she pulled out a chair, she looked at Xu Qing as if to ask: Is it okay to sit here?
Xu Qing nodded and, as if by magic, produced a pack of wet wipes and handed them to her. “Wipe it down.”
“Did you bring these from home?” Fu Shuang was a bit surprised. She took a wipe to clean the chair and then the table, saying, “No wonder they say it’s best to find a female Alpha to marry; women know how to take care of people better than men.”
Xu Qing smiled and said teasingly, “That really depends on personal preference. If your preference is men, then finding a female Alpha won’t do much good, will it?”
Then, Fu Shuang leaned in like a little rabbit, twitched her nose, and whispered, “To be honest, I’ve hated men since I was a kid. They’re dirty, smelly, stupid, and clumsy…”
The “rabbit” honestly confessed her preferences.
Xu Qing was secretly delighted, but she kept her expression calm as she picked up a disposable cup and poured Fu Shuang some orange juice.
Fu Shuang took a sip. She wanted to take the opportunity to ask about Xu Qing’s preferences, but seeing her looking so inscrutable, Fu Shuang suddenly lost her nerve—
A beautiful and elegant female Alpha like her could like any type; it didn’t necessarily have to be an Omega.
Fu Shuang thought about it carefully. Combining that with previous details, every time she smelled her “sister’s” pheromones, her reaction was intense—but did her sister have any reaction to her own pheromones?
Currently, it seemed like she didn’t.
Realizing this, Fu Shuang found it even harder to frankly ask about Xu Qing’s orientation. What if it was completely different from what she imagined?
Fu Shuang suddenly felt a bit dejected. Xu Qing clinked her cup against hers and said with a smile, “Congratulations on making a big profit today. Don’t forget to come find me and treat me to a meal once you strike it rich in the future.”
Even when clinking cups, Xu Qing kept hers lower than Fu Shuang’s.
Feeling the sensation of being cared for, Fu Shuang’s heart suddenly turned sentimental. She let out a soft huff of a laugh and said, “From your lips to God’s ears.”
“Of course,” Xu Qing said. “You’re beautiful, capable, and resilient. If you don’t get rich, who will?”
These words made the little money-grubber Fu Shuang feel like she was floating on air. She didn’t even bother to be humble, blinking as she asked, “Does Sister really think so?”
Her soft, adorable, yet proud demeanor made Xu Qing want to reach out and rub her head.
“I’d be a dog if I were lying,” Xu Qing said.
Having received Xu Qing’s validation, Fu Shuang’s back straightened considerably.
Not long ago, everyone around her had been advising her “not to make a fuss,” and even her best friends were against her moving out. In their eyes, an Omega was merely an appendage to a social elite Alpha, with no independence to speak of.
But Xu Qing recognized her and gave her high praise.
If Fu Shuang had a tail, it would probably be wagging into the sky right now. Xu Qing took the opportunity to ask her: “So, I’m sincerely asking for advice—how exactly did you get that compensation money today?”
Fu Shuang took a shallow sip of orange juice, intentionally being coy. She smiled like a “sweet but naive” girl and said, “I’m good-looking. Once those kids’ parents heard me talk for a bit, they got all dizzy and transferred the money to me.”
“Is that so? Then you truly are talented,” Xu Qing said in an exaggerated tone. “You should open a law firm one day. People all over the world will proactively send you compensation money, and you’ll be rich in an instant.”
Fu Shuang laughed until her sides ached. Just then, the shop boy brought over the freshly grilled meat skewers and two bottles of coconut milk. Fu Shuang asked in confusion, “When did we order coconut milk? Is this on the house?”
The boy smiled. “No, we don’t give out free drinks.”
Fu Shuang looked at Xu Qing, while Xu Qing noticed the group at the table behind them was paying their bill. Seeing Xu Qing’s gaze, the boy paying the bill lowered his head and gave a shy wave.
“These were bought for you by the guests over there,” the shop boy said with a smile. “He said his friend offended you earlier and wants to apologize.”
Without even turning her head, Fu Shuang said coldly, “If they want to apologize, they should do it in person. Who wants this?”
Xu Qing was stunned for a moment upon hearing this. Seeing the situation, the boy had no choice but to take the drinks back and inform the other party. Seeing that they had failed to pick up the beauties, the group left dejectedly.
“Annoying jerks!” Fu Shuang muttered. When she met Xu Qing’s gaze, she had already naturally switched back to a bright, cheerful smile. “Sister, do you want beer?”
Xu Qing asked, “Do you want to drink?”
“I don’t, but if Sister wants to, I’ll go grab a few bottles for you.”
“Drinking alone isn’t much fun,” Xu Qing smiled. “This is enough.”
“That kid usually lives with his grandparents. He’s a well-known troublemaker at school. The old couple has plenty of money, but they’re stingy as heck and refused to pay a cent.” Fu Shuang picked up a skewer and finally shared the evening’s experience with Xu Qing: “I told them I’d report this to the school and notify the kid’s parents. When the time comes for the parent-teacher meeting, he’ll be criticized in front of the whole school. I also said the traffic police department would use this case as a negative example for publicity. Their kid won’t be able to get into a good high school, and their son and daughter-in-law will definitely question their ability to look after the child. Since it happened once, it’ll definitely happen again. It’s a miracle their kid wasn’t hurt this time, but my friend’s losses are severe.”
“I wore them down for two hours at their house before the old couple finally agreed to pay the compensation.”
While listening to her, Xu Qing had already peeled a grilled shrimp. Like making an offering, she placed the whole piece of shrimp meat on Fu Shuang’s plate and said sincerely, “Teacher Lulu, I have a life consultation I’d like to ask you about.”
