The Omega Pretending to Be an Alpha Was Accidentally Marked by His Boss - Chapter 4
Qiu Nan was forcefully kept in the hospital ward overnight by the chief of the emergency inpatient department.
He had repeatedly insisted he was perfectly fine, but the chubby chief refused to let him go under any circumstances, claiming it was strict hospital policy that patients in the emergency room had to be kept for at least forty-eight hours of observation before they could be discharged.
The chief was in his forties, a bit balding, and carried a slightly greasy aura.
The next morning, after finishing his ward rounds, he dismissed the young nurse and spoke to Qiu Nan with deep, paternal solemnity. “Xiao Qiu, as a doctor, there are some things I feel compelled to remind you about. You’re still young.
Some physical damage is irreversible, so you really shouldn’t be so reckless with your body.”
Qiu Nan: “?”
The chubby chief lowered his voice, projecting the worldly sophistication of someone who thought he had seen it all. “You could always find another way to please your boyfriend, you know? He seemed like a reasonable enough man when I spoke to him—don’t just let him throw you around like that!”
The moment Director Xie’s face flashed through his mind, Qiu Nan’s lips twitched violently. He rushed to clear his name. “What on earth are you talking about? He is not my boyfriend!”
The chief sucked in a sharp breath.
So, yesterday’s rich heir deliberately sought out an Omega who was allergic to his own pheromones, injected the allergen directly into the poor guy’s gland, and then just stood back to admire the terrifying rollercoaster ride of hot and cold symptoms?
How utterly depraved!
“Do you need me to call the police for you?” the chief whispered.
Qiu Nan: “…”
“Xiao Qiu, are you that strapped for cash? Why sell your body like this? You can always reach out to the Omega Rescue Committee. Ah, I see. He specifically requested to change your registration details to ‘Alpha’ because he wanted to strip away your chances of seeking help, didn’t he?”
“Bullshit! I was the one who bought him! It cost me a whopping hundred and fifty yuan!”
“Well, well. You certainly know how to play rough, don’t you?”
The chubby chief stared at him in utter shock for a moment, swallowed hard, and slowly backed out of the ward.
As he crossed the threshold, he turned his head to glance one last time at the plastic sign hanging on the door.
DEPARTMENT OF ALLERGY AND IMMUNOLOGY (Literal Chinese: Department of Abnormal Reactions)
Following the doctor’s gaze, Qiu Nan felt a sudden urge to bury his face in his hands.
Literally speaking, the absurd things he had just blurted out fit the literal name of the department perfectly.
Curse my stupid, competitive mouth!
Qiu Nan collapsed halfway back onto his pillows, staring listlessly out the French window at the sky, utterly drained of the will to live.
Just hold on. There’s one last injection this afternoon. Once the IV fluid is done, I can finally get out of here!
However, the chief’s bizarre lecture had inadvertently triggered a sudden sense of crisis within him.
Yesterday, his brain had been too muddled to think straight, and he had assumed everything would be fine as long as his top boss’s top boss forgave him. But now that the two of them shared that kind of intimate connection, wouldn’t meeting at the Bureau be incredibly awkward? How was he supposed to do his job moving forward?
Qiu Nan was busy sighing in despair when Mi Zhu walked up to the ward door, carrying a basket of fruit.
Mi Zhu gave a perfunctory couple of knocks on the door frame before strolling inside with a bright grin.
Setting the fruit basket down on the bedside table, he familiarly dragged over a stool and sat down. “Qiu-er, feeling any better?”
“What are you doing here?” Qiu Nan glanced at the basket, reached inside, and pulled out a banana, entirely skipping the pleasantries.
“Old Lan told us yesterday that you’d been rushed to the emergency room, but none of us had the time to come visit. We spent the entire night chasing after ND-420 and ND-421. I only just finished wrapping things up today.” Mi Zhu appraised Qiu Nan from head to toe. “How are you holding up? Look at those dark circles under your eyes.”
“I’m fine, never better!” Qiu Nan muttered around a mouthful of banana, his voice muffled. “Did you guys catch them?”
The “420” and “421” Mi Zhu mentioned were precisely the two monsters that had escaped from the Bureau’s holding cells the previous day. Because the creatures had fled in opposite directions, Squad Three had gone after ND-421, while their own Squad Four pursued ND-420.
“The new Director advanced his start date and personally took charge of the command center yesterday. Squad Three managed to bag 421 and bring it back, but our target hit a complex terrain area and slipped away. Right now, Vice Captain Huo and the rest of the crew are still out there hunting for it. As the official representative of Squad Four, I came to check on our Captain!”
So, the mission really did fail?
Suddenly, the banana in Qiu Nan’s hand lost all its flavor.
He set the fruit down. “Thank you for coming to see me so promptly.”
Mi Zhu beamed. “Don’t mention it! It’s the least I could do!”
Qiu Nan: “Because if you had waited any longer, I would have already checked myself out.”
Mi Zhu blanked for a second before bursting into loud laughter, cursing him for throwing around such rotten, deadpan humor.
Qiu Nan looked dead serious. “I’m not kidding. I beg you, get me out of here. There is absolutely nothing wrong with me, but that unhinged chief of emergency inpatient insists on keeping me for forty-eight hours. I genuinely suspect he wants to use me as a lab rat!”
“Hahahahaha!” Mi Zhu was laughing so hard he could barely breathe. “Qiu’er, how did you even manage that anyway? How did you end up getting mixed up with the new Director?”
“What do you mean ‘mixed up’? That sounds horrible!” Feeling a sudden cocktail of guilt and embarrassment, Qiu Nan tried to sound casual as he probed for information. “You know about it?”
“Huh? It’s not just me who knows. The entire Bureau no, wait, the entire country knows!”
Qiu Nan: “???”
What? Wasn’t it just a failed mission caused by a random allergic reaction? Since when did it have this kind of nationwide impact?
He watched in horror as Mi Zhu pulled out his phone.
“Qiu’er, do you just not scroll through TikTok when you’re bored?” Mi Zhu tapped his screen a couple of times and pulled up a short video. “Take a look at this!”
The video was incredibly chaotic, clearly filmed inside a crowded hospital lobby. Due to the tight press of the crowd, the camera shook violently, giving Qiu Nan a slight headache just watching it.
Habitually, his eyes darted to the caption first:
#HighVisuals #HighEQ! A heartwarming scene caught in the emergency room of Nandong Municipal Hospital. You deserve a boyfriend this considerate!#
Qiu Nan instantly realized what it was. With a sinking heart, he forced himself to focus on the brief, fifteen-second clip.
In the video, Xie Yunnian held him securely against his chest, shifting his broad shoulders to navigate through the chaotic crowd, carrying him all the way into the examination room.
There was a split second where Qiu Nan’s face was about to be clearly exposed to the lens, but Xie Yunnian deftly pivoted his torso, using his own back to completely block the camera while throwing a sharp, warning glare over his shoulder at the person filming.
The video’s audio was filled with a barrage of infatuated squeals from onlookers, most of them gushing over Xie Yunnian’s overwhelming charisma.
Objectively speaking, Qiu Nan had to admit the man looked insanely attractive.
But all that nonsense about “boyfriend energy” and “explosive possessiveness” was completely off the mark!
He dropped the phone back into Mi Zhu’s lap as if it had turned white-hot. “Why are people so incredibly gossipy nowadays? They must have way too much free time on their hands!”
“It already has over four hundred thousand views! You’re viral, Qiu’er!” A self-proclaimed gossip monger, Mi Zhu watched the looping video one more time with immense satisfaction before finally pocketing his phone. “We used to hear rumors that Director Xie from Headquarters was exceptionally handsome, but I didn’t expect him to be this stunning. If I were an Omega, I’d absolutely chase him!”
Qiu Nan: “Heh.”
Mi Zhu blinked playfully. “Qiu’er, don’t you want to chase him too? Wait, what am I saying? There’s no way you’d ever chase a guy, hahahahaha!”
He cracked up, thoroughly amused by his own joke.
“Shut up,” Qiu Nan grumbled crossly.
Until yesterday, Mi Zhu had been the only person in the world—aside from Qiu Nan’s private doctor—who knew his true gender.
It had all started during a past mission.
The target they were hunting at the time was a B-rank monster, which was guaranteed to cause severe hormonal disruptions in Omegas. Qiu Nan had stepped in at the last minute to cover for Sang Yongyi on a joint deployment with Mi Zhu. Because the monster had ambushed them without warning, Qiu Nan had plunged straight into an unexpected heat cycle.
Mi Zhu had been utterly paralyzed with shock. Fortunately, he managed to subdue the creature—which wasn’t particularly aggressive but possessed a massive biochemical influence—and sprinted to a nearby pharmacy to buy suppressants. He rushed back and injected them into Qiu Nan, who was already writhing on the ground like a twisted pretzel, ultimately saving his life.
From that day forward, the two became fiercely loyal buddies, and Mi Zhu swore a solemn oath to keep his secret under wraps.
Jokes aside, Mi Zhu genuinely cared about Qiu Nan. He knew about Qiu Nan’s allergies, but he hadn’t realized they were severe enough to land him in a hospital bed.
Wiping the smile from his face, he asked, “There weren’t even that many pine trees in those woods yesterday, so how on earth did you manage this? Chief Lan said you almost went into anaphylactic shock.”
Qiu Nan let out a deeply dejected sigh. “My brother, your Daddy here just took a massive, catastrophic L. Sigh!”
