The Omega Pretending to Be an Alpha Was Accidentally Marked by His Boss - Chapter 10
Everyone said Director Xie was a meticulously strict man, but today, the entire Nandong Sector thought he was exceptionally generous. It wasn’t just because he was treating them to dinner; it was because he had given the entire field operations department a day off—a move completely unprecedented in the bureau’s history.
With NB-420 and ND-421 transported to Headquarters overnight, Sector B7, where the monsters were usually detained, was currently empty. At the end of yesterday’s meeting, Director Xie had simply waved his hand and declared that only one person needed to stay behind for routine duty while everyone else could take a full day off.
In just two short days since taking office, Director Xie’s reputation among the staff had skyrocketed.
According to the holiday roster, it was Mi Zhu’s turn to pull duty today. Having nothing better to do at home, Qiu Nan lugged two massive shopping bags over to the bureau to keep him company. When he arrived, he found Mi Zhu sitting in the guard room, scrolling listlessly through his phone.
Without even putting the bags down, Qiu Nan leaned against the doorframe and tilted his head toward the corridor. “Mimi, why are you rotting in here? Come on, follow your daddy to the office and let’s watch some TV!”
“I love you, Qiu’er!” Mi Zhu practically leaped out of his chair, snatching the shopping bags from his hands. “Let me carry those!”
The ten team captains’ offices were located on Sector B3 of the bureau. The rooms were separated by glass partitions, with the blinds usually left halfway open since there was never any need to hide from one another. Because of the holiday, the entire floor was dead silent, without a single soul in sight.
Laughing and shoving each other, the two walked into the Squad Four office. Mi Zhu dumped the shopping bags onto the large desk while Qiu Nan turned on the television.
“Oho, quite a selection you got here!” Mi Zhu fished a multi-pack of potato chips out of the bag, glanced at it, and tossed a pack to Qiu Nan. “Qiu’er, try this. It’s the new lemon flavor!”
As a certified snack fanatic, Qiu Nan ripped the bag open and pinched out a few chips. Munching loudly, he leaned back against the sofa and aggressively spammed the remote control to change channels, finally settling on a popular variety show.
Mi Zhu grabbed a pack of seaweed rolls, sat down next to him, and casually stuffed one into Qiu Nan’s mouth. The moment his eyes caught the person on screen, they lit up. “Wow! Look, it’s my wife!”
Qiu Nan naturally knew who he was talking about.
The camera had just locked onto the face of the wildly popular idol, Xia Jun. He was an Omega with a perfect face, a great physique, and a beautiful voice. His naturally petite frame and slightly boyish, doll-like face were incredibly endearing, and even the way he looked at the camera carried a hint of natural charm. Having debuted only a year ago, he was already well on his way to becoming the “nation’s wife.”
Even though Qiu Nan didn’t follow celebrity culture, he quite liked this frequently televised star. He was undeniably easy on the eyes.
“Look at you people!” Qiu Nan pointed an accusatory, self-righteous finger at Mi Zhu. “You don’t know how to moderate your jokes. You call anyone your wife these days. If this person were part of your family, would you still be laughing?
Besides, that is clearly my wife!”
Mi Zhu stared at him blankly for a few long seconds. Once his brain registered the sheer audacity of the statement, he burst into a roaring laugh.
“Qiu’er! You really say the most shameless things with a straight face! Hahaha—alright, fine, fine. Your wife, she’s your wife, okay? I’ll let you have her! But tell me, do you really think two Omegas together can be harmonious? What are you guys going to do, have a Platonic romance?”
Qiu Nan: “I am your daddy!”
The television screen went black instantly. Deeply offended by his best friend’s reality check, the disgruntled Omega expressed his wrath by shutting off the TV.
“Hey! Don’t get in the way of me watching our wife!”
Mi Zhu lunged forward to snatch the remote, but Qiu Nan quickly hid his hands behind his back. The two began wrestling and shouting, making enough noise to tear the roof off if the bureau weren’t buried deep underground.
They were fooling around so wildly that neither of them noticed the office door being pushed open soundlessly.
Chips and seaweed crumbs were now scattered all over the sofa and the floor. The remote control had been thrown far across the room, with one of its batteries rolling out.
Mi Zhu had one hand pinning Qiu Nan’s wrist and the other gripping his shoulder, pinning him flat against the couch. Meanwhile, Qiu Nan was tugging fiercely at Mi Zhu’s hair, his legs tightly locking down one of Mi Zhu’s legs in a chaotic, inseparable tangle.
Both were dead set on pinning the other down.
A thin sheen of sweat glistened on Qiu Nan’s forehead. His watery lips were flushed a soft pink, his collar was slightly askew, and his hair was a messy nest.
This was the exact scene Xie Yunnian beheld the moment he pushed the door open. His eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze darkening in an instant.
He cleared his throat.
The two tangled octopuses on the sofa raised their heads at the same time, and in unison, scrambled apart in sheer terror.
Qiu Nan scrambled to his feet, frantically brushing the chip crumbs off his clothes like a child caught committing a heinous crime.
A faint scent of green pine drifted into his nose. He couldn’t help but let out a tiny, soft sneeze.
Mi Zhu forcefully tugged at the dazed Qiu Nan and snapped to attention toward Xie Yunnian. “Director! We’re sorry! We’ll clean this up right away!”
Xie Yunnian didn’t offer a word of response. His eyes remained fixed entirely on Qiu Nan. Though his gaze appeared calm on the surface, it carried a heavy, indefinable edge of intimidation.
Even though Mi Zhu was a Beta who couldn’t smell a single trace of pheromones, he could tell something was profoundly wrong. He blinked, a sudden realization dawning on him.
The Director’s expression right now looks exactly like a husband catching his wife cheating in bed!
Granted, they had established a lifetime mark, but hadn’t they said it was just an accident?
Is this just the innate, possessive instinct of an Alpha?
Mi Zhu looked at Director Xie, whose face was as dark as a rainy day in May, and then looked at Captain Qiu, who currently had no idea where to put his hands and feet. A sudden wave of excitement washed over him.
Qiu’er, you idiot.
You really are an absolute idiot!
Now that he understood why the Director was angry, he knew how to handle the situation. For the sake of brotherhood, he chimed in with some idle chatter to bail Qiu Nan out. “Director, isn’t today a holiday? What brings you to the bureau?”
Xie Yunnian glanced at him and reined in his heavily oppressive pheromones.
With his stellar family background and excellent physical foundation, his glands had developed exceptionally healthily after presenting as an Alpha, secreting the highest caliber of pheromones. The more premium an Alpha’s pheromones were, the more potent their effect on an Omega—in every single aspect. This was also one of the reasons why Xie Yunnian was constantly swarmed by suitors.
Instead of answering Mi Zhu’s question, he stared directly at Qiu Nan. “Which of you two is actually on duty today?”
Qiu Nan forced himself to meet his gaze, pulling the corners of his mouth into a strained smile. “Mi Zhu is on duty. I just came to keep him company.”
“Are the two of you still in primary school? Do you need a buddy to go to the bathroom, too?”
Neither of them spoke.
Hearing Xie Yunnian’s cold mockery, Qiu Nan—who had just freed himself from the crushing weight of the Alpha’s pheromones—immediately rallied his defenses. “Director, is there a rule stating we can’t come to the bureau during our time off?”
“No.” Xie Yunnian wrapped his hand around the doorknob. Before stepping out, he shot a sharp glance at Mi Zhu. “But there is a regulation stating that whoever is on duty must remain at their post in the guard room. No leaving the post unless there is an emergency.”
The sound of steady, heavy footsteps moved over to the office next door. Qiu Nan peeked through the partially drawn blinds and saw Xie Yunnian picking up his coat.
How humiliating. It turned out the Director had been in the neighboring room the entire time!
A wave of frustration washed over Qiu Nan as he listened to the footsteps gradually fade away down the end of the long corridor.
Left behind in the room, the two men stood in silence for a long time, staring at each other.
Mi Zhu’s eyes widened to the size of saucers. “Walking right into the trap! Giving yourself away! Selling out your teammate! Qiu’er, you are so incredibly smart!”
Qiu Nan: “I am your daddy!”
