“No!” Su Niannian bristled like a startled kitten. “Absolutely not!”
“Aw, but aren’t we friends?” Qi Ning looked genuinely dejected. “I see best friends soak in the bath together all the time!”
As she spoke, she let her foot hook playfully around Su Niannian’s calf. Her expression was innocent, yet full of expectation. “Please?”
Su Niannian’s face instantly turned a violent shade of red. She scrambled backward, jumping away to avoid Qi Ning’s next move.
“If, if you keep doing this, I’m leaving!” Su Niannian blustered, trying to bolster her presence with volume, unaware that she looked exactly like a tiny kitten baring its claws for show.
“Alright, alright,” Qi Ning said, knowing better than to push too far. She wisely backed off. “You go in and wash first. I’ll find a set of pajamas for you.”
Only then did Su Niannian realize she had come here with nothing but the clothes on her back. She didn’t even have a change of undergarments.
That means even the underwear would be. Su Niannian began to have second thoughts.
Qi Ning keenly sensed her intent to bolt. “Don’t worry, I have plenty of clothes I’ve never worn.”
Su Niannian: “…”
“Our figures are quite similar. You can wear mine for now, and tomorrow we’ll go buy some new clothes together.”
At the mention of “figures,” Su Niannian’s gaze instinctively drifted to Qi Ning’s chest.
So big and the shape is so beautiful.
“What are you looking at?”
Qi Ning waved a hand in front of Su Niannian’s face, smiling mischievously.
Su Niannian: “!”
Su Niannian’s heart gave a violent thud. She stood bolt upright, denying it frantically. “I wasn’t looking at anything!”
“It’s okay,” Qi Ning chuckled, lightly scratching the center of Su Niannian’s palm. “If you want to look, I’m happy to let you whenever you want.”
“I’m going to shower!” Su Niannian didn’t dare hear the rest. Clutching her burning ears, she fled into the bathroom.
Su Niannian had the most distracted shower of her life.
What does Qi Ning mean? Is she hinting at something? Is she just joking? We’re both girls, but her body really is incredible.
No!
Stop thinking about it!
Su Niannian switched the tap to cold and let it pour over her head, desperately trying to flush certain “strange” thoughts out of her brain.
“Niannian, I’ve brought the clothes.”
“Ah, okay!” Hearing the woman in question so suddenly, Su Niannian’s guilt flared, and she nearly slipped on the wet floor. “Just leave them outside the door. I’ll get them in a second.”
Through the frosted glass door, Qi Ning’s voice was muffled, but Su Niannian could still hear her soft laugh. “Don’t be too long, or you’ll catch a cold.”
“Okay.” Su Niannian replied, covering her glowing cheeks.
She finished the shower as fast as humanly possible, reached out to snatch the pajamas from the floor outside, and scrambled into them.
They’re a bit big. Su Niannian noted dejectedly.
When she finally shuffled out of the bathroom, Qi Ning was wearing her glasses, sitting on the living room sofa and scrolling through her phone. Without a smile on her face, she looked far more unapproachable than usual—exuding a cold, distant aura that felt miles away.
Su Niannian unconsciously lowered her voice. “Qi Ning, I’m done.”
Her words seemed to have a magical effect. Qi Ning turned her head, her features softening instantly, like spring winds melting a frozen lake.
“The bedroom is on the left. The bed is already made,” Qi Ning said, taking off her glasses and unbuttoning her shirt. “I heated a glass of milk for you, too. Remember to drink it before you sleep.”
Su Niannian didn’t dare let her gaze touch the pale skin revealed at Qi Ning’s collar. She nodded frantically and bolted toward the bedroom.
She really hasn’t experienced anything, has she? Qi Ning paused her movements, arching an eyebrow in a very good mood.
Su Niannian lay tucked inside the soft duvet. Despite her exhaustion, sleep eluded her.
Part of it was the oppressive atmosphere of the room, but mostly it was because her mind was occupied by Qi Ning, an image she couldn’t seem to shake.
Qi Ning was gentle, attentive, and treated her so well. Yet, Qi Ning also took a wicked delight in teasing her, loving the way she looked when flustered. And then there was that confession, the one that felt somewhere between a lie and the truth.
Su Niannian wasn’t entirely oblivious to the hints, but she was terrified that if she took them seriously, she would eventually discover Qi Ning was just playing a game.
“So annoying,” Su Niannian muttered to herself.
“Why aren’t you sleeping yet?”
Su Niannian jumped. She spun around to find Qi Ning standing by the bed, her phone screen providing the only light.
“Just thinking.” Su Niannian burrowed deeper into the duvet, giving a vague answer.
Qi Ning sat on the edge of the bed, her tone gentle. “Can I turn on the light?”
“Mm.” Su Niannian sat up as well, thinking that with a voice like that, Qi Ning would be perfect for one of those late-night sleep-aid radio shows.
The light flickered on. Su Niannian squinted for a moment, and once her eyes adjusted, she froze at the sight of her host.
Qi Ning had clearly just showered. Her hair was still damp, and the water had soaked into her thin silk pajamas, making the delicate fabric almost translucent.
Su Niannian watched as a few droplets fell from the tips of Qi Ning’s hair, sliding slowly down into the hollow of her collarbone, leaving a lingering, damp trail.
W-what! Su Niannian’s pupils dilated. Her instinct was to flee again, but in the next second, Qi Ning had scooped her duvet and all into a firm embrace.
“No running,” Qi Ning teased with a wicked grin.
“You, you put some clothes on first!” Catching a glimpse of Qi Ning’s neckline, Su Niannian could barely form a sentence. She was stuttering uncontrollably. “And don’t hold me!”
Her limbs were pinned by Qi Ning’s hold; there was no escape. She could only glare at her in a show of hollow bravado.
Qi Ning reached out to touch Su Niannian’s flushed earlobe, only backing off and releasing her when the girl looked like she was about to explode from embarrassment. “Fine, but can I at least hold your hand?”
She pulled her collar tight and held out an open palm to Su Niannian.
Su Niannian stared at her for a long moment. Seeing that Qi Ning wasn’t going to budge until she complied, she reluctantly placed her hand in the doctor’s.
“Only for a little while,” Su Niannian added quickly, seeing Qi Ning’s triumphant smile.
Once their hands were joined, Qi Ning settled down significantly, like a child who had finally been given a piece of candy. She softened her voice and asked, “Are you unable to sleep because you’re afraid?”
Su Niannian buried the lower half of her face in the blanket. Only when the heat in her cheeks subsided did she slowly mumble, “I’m not afraid.”
I’m not afraid because you’re here.
For some reason, as long as she could see Qi Ning, she felt a profound sense of security.
But since Qi Ning had brought it up, Su Niannian remembered how the doctor had acted “scared” earlier. Her voice softened. “What about you?”
“Mm, I’m terrified.” Qi Ning nuzzled her cheek against Su Niannian’s palm. “I definitely won’t be able to sleep alone tonight.”
“Stop with that act.” Su Niannian grumbled.
Qi Ning: “Waaaah.”
Su Niannian: “…”
Qi Ning: “I’m too scared to sleep by myself. I want to sleep with Niannian.”
Even as she said it, Qi Ning didn’t actually expect Su Niannian to agree. But then, she noticed the tips of Su Niannian’s ears turning pink.
“Go dry your hair first,” Su Niannian’s voice was so quiet it was almost inaudible. “You’ll catch a cold if you sleep like that.”
She had said yes.
