The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 82
“Father, I’m home.”
Father seemed to be having tea with Otto. It might be the first time I’ve seen Otto sitting and drinking tea with Father. Upon noticing me, Otto immediately stood up, gestured for me to take a seat on the sofa, and prepared some tea for me.
Today, both Father and Otto seemed to be in a rather relaxed mood.
“Father, both Fars and I have successfully passed our graduation exams.”
“Congratulations, Marloa and Fars. You’ve both done so well. To graduate as scholarship students for four years straight is truly remarkable.
Our family couldn’t be prouder. I just received a call from the academy a short while ago. I’ve already informed Hubert and Violeta about your success in the graduation exams. Terra’s retraining also seems to be progressing smoothly.
I plan to give the two of them special rewards again.”
“Thank you, Sir. My father-in-law and mother will be delighted as well,” Fars said gratefully, and Otto handed both Fars and me our uniforms.
Upon closer inspection, there were official white knight uniforms for formal occasions, green knight uniforms for daily wear, and, for me, the same uniforms, along with a small red magic stone set into an ear cuff.
“Father, what is this?”
“These are your uniforms for tomorrow. They arrived from the royal palace this morning. As for the ear cuff, Marloa, you’re instructed to wear it as soon as you receive it and to keep it on at all times.”
As I immediately put on the ear cuff, I felt a faint sensation of the magic stone harmonizing with my magic energy.
Could this possibly allow communication similar to that of magical birds? I’ll ask the commander about it tomorrow. The uniforms we’re to wear starting tomorrow were the same for Fars and me, except for slight differences in the badges.
Looking at the uniforms we had been given, our hearts swelled with anticipation for tomorrow. Only the four of us present in this room knew about my new workplace.
In particular, my information was classified as confidential by royal decree. While someone might think my uniform would reveal my identity, I was reportedly categorized as a general knight without magic.
To those in the know, however, the ear cuff or badge might hint that I belonged to the Zero Division.
After reporting to Father, Fars and I returned to our rooms to prepare for tomorrow. Not that I had much to do.
Since Fars was moving, he had to leave his post as an attendant early to pack his belongings.
“I’ve been with you for so long, Fars, it feels a little lonely,” I said.
“…Yeah. We’ve been together since we were born. Marloa, I’ve been thinking about this for a long time… If I become a knight commander and receive a title from His Majesty, will you marry me?”
Fars’ unusually serious expression made my heartbeat quicken.
“Me, become your wife? Are you sure, Fars? You could choose any lovely noble lady you want. Besides, I’m treated as a woman without magic. Wouldn’t I just be a burden?”
“Other noble ladies are delicate, vain, and dull. I want you, Marloa. I want to marry you.”
“Thank you, Fars. I’ll look forward to it. But if I gain fame as a dragon slayer while I’m waiting for you, I’ll support you as my husband.”
“That sounds exciting in its own way,” he replied.
Laughing together, I watched over his moving preparations.
Incidentally, it seems I’ll be receiving a salary as part of the Zero Division, but the pay for recruitment and assistance roles is about the same as that of a regular knight. Professor Levain, who also takes on guild requests as an adventurer in addition to his Zero Division salary, is probably quite wealthy.
The next day, Father, Fars, and I headed to the castle together. It was the first time the three of us commuted together, and it would also be the last time with Fars.
The atmosphere inside the carriage was unlike anything before. From now on, I’d be commuting with Father, which made me a little nervous.
After passing through the gate, I bid farewell to Father and Fars with “Take care” and “I’m off,” and I made my way to the Zero Division’s room.
