The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 63
“Honestly, I wanted Fars to join us here too, but… here’s why I called you both. Would you come hunting with me?”
Senior Yele smiled broadly as he brewed tea using the finest tea leaves.
“…I knew it. So, what are we hunting?”
“A Blue Dragon, maybe?”
“You could handle that alone.”
“Don’t you know how insanely high a Blue Dragon’s magic resistance is?!”
“You’ll figure something out, Yele.”
Senior Arnold sipped his tea, savoring its aroma.
“Marloa, you’ll come, won’t you?”
“Wouldn’t it be faster to send someone of knight commander rank instead of me?”
After all, I’m still a student.
“That’s the issue. Just when this happened, there were signs of a stampede near the southern border, so the mages and knights were all dispatched there. Plus, His Highness is visiting a neighboring country, and the knight commander was pulled away for his escort.
With His Majesty’s security detail stretched thin, there’s no one left to handle this. And now, a Blue Dragon has appeared in a northern village. Talk about bad luck, right?”
“Wouldn’t it be better to hire adventurers through the guild?”
“They’ve all gone to deal with the stampede—it’s prime earning season for them. Besides, there aren’t many people strong enough to take down a dragon.
You and Fars are both strong enough that Arnold and I recognize your skills. You’ve both defeated dragons before.”
“Fine. But I expect proper compensation. What about you, Marloa?”
I wasn’t sure exactly how strong a Blue Dragon was, but if I was going with the seniors, it seemed manageable.
“If Senior Arnold is going, then I’ll join. As for Fars, he has the combat tournament coming up, so I’m not sure if he can participate…”
Senior Yele grinned mischievously.
“That won’t be a problem. We’ll leave, finish the job, and return in time. The tournament is three days away—plenty of time. I’ll inform the headmaster too.”
So Fars was already committed to participating.
“Understood. I’ll prepare as soon as I get home. Should I meet you here tomorrow morning?”
“Yes, come early.”
I quickly noted down the essentials and returned to the estate.
Fars, who had apparently been told to leave practice early, returned home shortly after.
“Marloa, my instructor told me to head back for now. Did something happen?”
“Didn’t the headmaster tell you? We’re going with Senior Yele tomorrow morning to subdue a Blue Dragon.”
“What!?”
Fars couldn’t hide his surprise at the sudden development.
“But the tournament is in three days!”
“I know, but Senior Yele said it would be fine.”
I laughed as I explained the details of tomorrow’s mission. Fars grumbled about wanting the tournament postponed but went to report to Otto and began preparing.
I think, deep down, Fars enjoys these group hunts. Honestly, I don’t dislike them either.
After thoroughly checking my equipment for the next day, I went to bed.
“Good morning, my lady. It’s time to wake up.”
“Today, I think we should just warm up lightly. I’ll take off the wristbands.”
“I already took mine off. It feels so light! Oh, by the way, I asked the chef to make sandwiches. Let’s eat them when we get to the palace.”
“The seniors probably haven’t eaten yet, have they?”
After a light warm-up, we headed to the royal palace in full gear. I wondered how big a Blue Dragon appearing in a village could be. From Senior Arnold’s tone, it sounded like Senior Yele could handle it alone. Maybe Fars and I were just there to assist.
“Good morning, seniors.”
“Good morning, Marloa, Fars. Let’s fly straight away.”
Senior Yele and Senior Arnold were already standing in a magic circle, surrounded by mana stones. Because of the distance, they planned to use the mana from the stones to teleport.
The mana stones were arranged along the magic circle’s lines, ready to activate at any moment.
We quickly stepped into the circle. Senior Yele began chanting, and the magic circle started to glow softly. The scenery warped for a moment, and the next thing I knew, we were in an unfamiliar village.
The village was eerily quiet, devoid of people.
“Senior Yele, what’s this village?”
“This is the village where the dragon was reported. The residents have probably evacuated to the nearest village by now, so no one should be here.”
Senior Yele carefully picked up the mana stones that had powered the now-dissolved magic circle.
“Senior, I brought breakfast sandwiches. Would you like some?”
“That’s thoughtful. I’m starving.”
We walked to the village square, where benches were set up. This village had a different charm than the one I had grown up in.
While the sight of the village was refreshing to me, the damage to buildings at the outskirts was a stark reminder of the dragon’s destructive power. It was enough to make me focus entirely on the task at hand.
After quickly eating the sandwiches, we began preparing for the battle.
“Fars, lend me your sword.”
“Senior Arnold! Really!?”
Fars’s eyes sparkled with excitement. As he handed over his sword, Senior Arnold began chanting while running his fingers along the blade.
Inspired, I also enchanted my daggers with magic. I added paralysis, poison, and corrosion, one for each dagger.
“Marloa, that’s impressive. At this rate, you might surpass Arnold soon,” Senior Yele said, examining my work with interest.
Meanwhile, Senior Arnold finished enchanting Fars’s sword.
“I added physical reinforcement, power amplification, and magic enhancement.”
Fars looked ecstatic, practically ready to dance with joy.
Since these enhancements would be forbidden in the tournament, we’d have to ensure they were removed after the dragon hunt.
Still, Senior Arnold’s ability to layer three enhancements was amazing.
I could barely manage one.
Watching their work, I decided I wanted to save up and visit Master Danzion to upgrade my weapons and armor with high-quality magical effects.
Senior Arnold’s current enchantments were temporary and would wear off with use. To make them last longer, one would need someone like Master Danzion to engrave the magic directly into the weapon or armor.
The engraved effects would be permanent but limited to specific types of magic. In contrast, temporary enchantments were flexible and could be customized for each battle, though they consumed mana and weren’t ideal when conserving energy.
Both methods had their pros and cons. Only those skilled in alchemy could perform such enchantments, so most people had to purchase pre-enchanted weapons or armor.
