The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 61
“Fars, things have really taken a turn, haven’t they? Do you think we’ll ever get a long vacation?”
“Who knows? We probably won’t be able to go out for a while. Still, once the magic tournament ends the day after tomorrow, we won’t have to meet any nobles for a while, so that’s some relief.
By the way, what about next week’s graduation party? Shouldn’t you inform Senior Arnord about the situation?”
“You’re right. Skipping the magic tournament won’t cause any issues, but the graduation party could affect him. I’ll send him a letter.”
With a sigh, I wrote a letter to Senior Arnold and sent it via magical courier. Father was likely also contacting the Marquisate about the situation.
The next day, we spent the morning training as usual and then stayed in our rooms. Meanwhile, the servants were busily carrying out Mother’s belongings from her room.
It seemed the divorce papers had been prepared the day before, and Mother had been forced to sign them.
Under Otto’s leadership, a search of Mother’s room had been conducted, uncovering evidence of her dealings with the trading company.
Inside her closet, they found documents haphazardly stored, including names of contacts, correspondence, copies of human trafficking contracts, and schedules.
Even until the end, Mother believed she was acting for Sara’s sake. She seemed convinced I would become the chairman’s second wife, having been sweet-talked into signing everything.
Father submitted a full report to the royal palace along with the evidence.
As a result, our family was treated as victims in the case, avoiding any penalties.
The trading company, notorious for its dark rumors, was finally put in a position to be prosecuted thanks to the decisive evidence found in our household.
Mother, now divorced, was to return to her family’s Viscountcy by this afternoon.
Her presence would likely be a burden there, too. Whether she was sent to a convent or confined to a remote estate would depend on the Viscount’s decision.
Would Sara go with her? Father would probably leave the choice to her. Whatever happens, it’s not something I can change.
Knowing this would be the last time I saw Mother, I decided to see her off in the entry hall as she left for the Viscountcy.
Mother was dressed in a plain one-piece dress, her hair disheveled, likely from struggling in her room. When she spotted me, she screamed at the top of her lungs.
“Marloa! This is all your fault! If you had just gone to the trading company, I wouldn’t be in this mess! I’m your mother!”
Mother tried to grab at me but was held back by the guards, unable to move.
“Mother, I have no memories of being held by you or playing together with you since I was born. To me, my mother was Violeta. I had hoped we could live as a proper family, but I see now that it was not meant to be. I sincerely wish you happiness in the life ahead of you.”
I bowed deeply and watched as Mother was escorted away with her belongings to the Viscountcy. The estate fell silent.
An indescribable emptiness settled over me.
For dinner, I chose to eat in my room with Fars. I expected Anna to reprimand me for dining with a servant, but even she seemed affected by the quietness of the house.
Father, meanwhile, had left for the royal palace early in the morning and had yet to return. Otto mentioned that he had many matters to handle, including Mother’s case and other official tasks, so he likely wouldn’t return for some time.
Otto also told me not to push myself to attend the magic tournament if I didn’t feel up to it.
Tomorrow, I’ll attend just to see Seniors Arnold and Yele’s presentations, then return home immediately.
“Good morning, my lady.”
I woke up to Fars’ voice. It was time for our morning training.
“Good morning, Fars. Did Father return last night?”
“Doesn’t seem like it. I heard he stayed overnight at the palace. He’ll probably be back tomorrow or the day after.”
“I see. I’ll get ready now.”
“Alright. I’ll wait at the usual spot.”
I quickly dressed and went to the training grounds, where Fars and I sparred. Trying to shake off the frustration of the past few days, I pushed myself harder than usual in our bout.
Afterward, I returned to my room, changed into my uniform, had breakfast, and headed to the academy.
The streets around the academy were busier than usual.
Parents, royal scouts, and other notable figures had gathered, and even His Highness was scheduled to attend. He was part of a group project presentation with members of the civil officers’ department, which had increased the number of guards posted around the academy.
The time for the magic tournament at the arena was approaching. Since the general public was heading there to watch, the research presentation area was relatively quiet.
Instead of heading to the arena, we went directly to Senior Arnold’s booth. On the way, I felt as though a few people were giving me strange looks, but I told myself not to pay it any mind.
“Good morning, Senior Arnold.”
“Marloa, Fars. I’m glad you came. You’ve had a rough time, haven’t you?”
“Senior, as I mentioned in my magical letter, I’m sorry for any trouble caused.”
“This isn’t your fault, Marloa. You’re a victim here.”
“Well, that’s true, but still…”
“Don’t worry about the graduation party. I was planning to attend alone anyway. Though, my parents seemed a bit disappointed. They told me to bring you as my partner to the next ball instead.”
After the incident with my mother, Father also reached out to Senior Arnold’s family to ensure we didn’t impose on them. There was no helping it.
In the days that followed, the actions of my mother impacted other nobles as well, leading to several arrests. Naturally, other families began avoiding interactions with ours to avoid tarnishing their reputation by association.
Even so, I received a kind letter from Senior Arnold’s parents expressing their concern for me.
“I’m so grateful to Senior Arnold’s parents.”
“They’ll be glad to hear that. Oh, by the way, Yele’s booth is next door. You should stop by and see him too. He’s been working up until the last minute, rushing to complete his enhancements.”
“Is that so? Then I’ll go take a look.”
After viewing Senior Arnold’s alchemical creations, we headed to Senior Yele’s booth.
Arnold’s work was highly specialized, featuring tools that converted magical energy into physical materials, as well as devices that transformed biological substances into metals.
I was sure his research would be coveted by other researchers.
“Good morning, Senior Yele.”
When we arrived at his booth, Senior Yele looked utterly drained—practically withered.
“Senior Yele, are you okay?”
Fars rushed over, concerned. The senior was barely managing to stay upright in his chair.
“Ah… I just kept experimenting and tweaking things until the very last minute, and now I’m like this. Fars, help me out—lend me some magic power.”
“I suppose I have no choice.”
Fars took Senior Yele’s hand and began transferring magic power to him slowly.
“Ack! That’s a jolt!”
Despite his complaint, Senior Yele accepted the magic power gratefully.
“See, Senior? I’ve gotten better at this, haven’t I? I’ve been practicing a lot.”
After transferring a sufficient amount, Fars cast a recovery spell as well.
“Yeah, you’ve improved significantly. But don’t get ahead of yourself—you’ve still got a long way to go. Honestly, I’d prefer to ask Marloa for help.”
It seemed Senior Yele had successfully recovered.
Apparently, his spell formation was attracting the attention of magicians from various countries. They were focusing on his work rather than the magic tournament, observing the spell formations with nods of understanding and engaging in animated discussions about magic circles.
I could tell they were from different countries based on the colors of their robes, badges, and clothing styles—it was fascinating.
“Senior Yele, it looks like you’re busy, so we’ll take our leave.”
“Ah, thank you for stopping by. I’ll send a magical bird sometime.”
With a brief farewell, Senior Yele turned back to explain his work to other visitors.
“Marloa, let’s head home.”
“Yes, it’s better not to wander too much right now.”
With that, we left the seniors’ booths. Once we returned to the estate, I immersed myself in training, beginning a new chapter of focused practice.
