The Movie Queen's Silly CEO - Chapter 31
After discovering a problem with one of the funds, Mu Qing immediately rushed to the other fund managers for a surprise inspection.
Fortunately, the other fund managers were relatively reliable. Although they didn’t give Mu Qing any pleasant surprises, there were no losses either just the usual profit margins.
By the time Mu Qing had checked all the funds she held major shares in, the streetlights had come on and most night owls were starting to stir.
“President Mu, it’s already past nine,” Chen Ning said, looking a bit tired. “Shall we head to a restaurant?”
“Mm, just find any place,” Mu Qing said, rubbing her brow. At this hour, Feng Xi was probably asleep.
She opened her phone and tapped on Feng Xi’s chat. Feng Xi had sent a group photo.
Today’s task had been completed quickly. Helping out at the restaurant had solved their dinner issue, and they even used the saved money to buy souvenirs. The photo Feng Xi sent was taken in Chinatown, showing the five of them plus the restaurant owner.
Just as Mu Qing was saving the photo, Feng Xi sent another message.
Feng Xi: Done for the day?
Mu Qing: Mm, just finished everything.
Feng Xi: Had dinner yet?
Mu Qing: Not yet, about to eat.
Seeing Feng Xi’s status change to “typing…”, Mu Qing didn’t switch screens, waiting for the next message.
About three minutes later, Feng Xi replied.
Feng Xi: Actually, I didn’t eat much tonight either.
Mu Qing raised an eyebrow. Was that an invitation?
Mu Qing: Want to grab a late-night snack together?
Feng Xi: Mm.
Seeing her reply, Mu Qing smiled, her eyes softening as she glanced at Chen Ning in the driver’s seat.
“Chen Ning, take me to the hotel first. You can have dinner on your own,” Mu Qing’s tone was much gentler than earlier. “Treat yourself to something nice I’ll reimburse you.”
What could Chen Ning say? Her boss was clearly heading into romance territory; she wasn’t about to be a third wheel.
“Got it, President Mu. I’ll take you to the hotel right away.” Time to enjoy a solo feast.
By the time Mu Qing arrived at the hotel, it was already past ten definitely late-night snack time.
Walking hand in hand down the quiet street, with no photographers or fear of being snapped, Feng Xi didn’t bother hiding her face.
“What do you want to eat?” Mu Qing asked. “As a celebrity, don’t you need to watch your figure?”
“Isn’t my figure good enough?” Feng Xi countered.
Mu Qing recalled, “Your waist is slim, your figure is great. One meal won’t hurt.”
Her tone was so serious, like she was describing an object’s shape and color.
Feng Xi felt a bit awkward but quickly brushed it off. “There’s a Japanese place over there. Let’s go.”
Mu Qing didn’t object, letting Feng Xi lead her by the hand, shoulder to shoulder into the restaurant.
Since it was late, the place wasn’t crowded. The staff warmly welcomed them and asked about their preferences.
Considering Feng Xi’s condition, Mu Qing ordered ramen and a fruit plate for her, and sushi and sashimi for herself.
“You get noodles, I get seafood?” Feng Xi eyed the salmon and oysters. “Can’t I just taste a little?”
“Technically, you shouldn’t eat raw food right now, or the next few days might be rough,” Mu Qing said, grinding wasabi.
After preparing the dipping sauce, she looked up to see Feng Xi’s hopeful eyes. “One piece of each, just to taste.”
“Okay.” Feng Xi was a bit disappointed but understood her period was coming soon. She focused on her ramen.
The ramen was excellent springy noodles, rich broth. One bite and Feng Xi perked up, eating faster.
Soon, she finished the bowl, patted her slightly bulging belly, and suppressed a burp.
Burping wasn’t ladylike, and she had to maintain her image especially now that she was with Mu Qing.
Mu Qing didn’t notice. Seeing Feng Xi finish, she pushed the fruit plate over.
“Eat some fruit. Helps digestion.”
Feng Xi nodded, picked up a cherry tomato, and bit into it. The sour juice burst out.
She squinted. “So sour…”
Mu Qing chuckled and handed her a piece of watermelon. “Eat this.”
Feng Xi took a big bite. October watermelon was perfectly ripe, and the sweetness washed away the sourness.
After finishing the fruit plate, only cherry tomatoes remained. Feng Xi picked one up and offered it to Mu Qing.
Mu Qing didn’t hesitate, bit into it, and swallowed.
“You didn’t find it sour?” Feng Xi asked.
Mu Qing paused, shook her head. “It’s fine.”
Feng Xi was skeptical. She tried another tomato still sour! Her face scrunched up.
“Very sour?” Mu Qing asked, amused. “Maybe you’re just sensitive to sourness?”
“No way! It’s the tomato! I dip dumplings in vinegar all the time!” Feng Xi protested. “This tomato tastes like pickled radish!”
Mu Qing didn’t believe her. She bent down and bit the half tomato in Feng Xi’s hand.
“I already bit that one,” Feng Xi said.
“I know,” Mu Qing replied. “I can eat what you’ve eaten, can’t I?”
“…As long as you don’t mind.” It was basically an indirect kiss.
Mu Qing didn’t know what that meant. Confirming Feng Xi’s sour sensitivity, she popped the rest of the tomatoes into her mouth.
After paying, they strolled slowly down the street.
October’s breeze was cool, making the warmth of their joined hands more noticeable.
Feng Xi could feel Mu Qing’s firm grip no space between their palms.
As the surroundings quieted, Feng Xi glanced at Mu Qing’s profile. “Was work smooth today?”
Mu Qing shook her head. “Not really.”
“What happened?” Feng Xi asked, concerned. “Did I distract you?”
“No, it was someone else’s mistake.” Mu Qing explained briefly.
“Lost fifty million dollars? What did they invest in?”
“A scam medical tech claiming to analyze blood cells to assess health,” Mu Qing said seriously. “The manager was naive. If it were real, big corporations would’ve jumped in.”
“Trying to turn fifty million into billions ridiculous. Only realized it was a scam after the company got busted.”
“Can the money be recovered?” Feng Xi asked.
“No. It’s been cycled through the stock market too many times,” Mu Qing said. “At least we got rid of a liability early.”
Only Mu Qing could say losing fifty million was a lesson. Feng Xi had barely saved over a hundred million from acting.
“Better to cut losses early,” Feng Xi said.
“Too bad. Could’ve bought you several villas,” Mu Qing mused.
“I already have a place to live,” Feng Xi said quickly. “And when I’m filming, the crew arranges everything. Even if you bought me a house, I wouldn’t live in it.”
“I see…” Mu Qing nodded. “What’s your plan after this show?”
“Probably some promotions, then prepare for Director Liu’s movie after New Year.”
“The one I invested in?” Mu Qing asked.
“Mm. Director Hu is also involved. I want to impress him.”
“Is Director Hu famous?” Mu Qing asked. She knew little about showbiz before meeting Feng Xi.
“Yes, he’s respected. Most actors want to work with him,” Feng Xi said, eyes full of admiration. “He’s known for having strong principles.”
Mu Qing looked puzzled. “Doesn’t everyone have principles?”
Feng Xi smiled and shook her head. “Some people’s ‘principles’ are no principles at all.”
Mu Qing’s memory stirred. “Don’t worry. I’ll be your bottom line. Anyone who crosses it is messing with me.”
“Mm.” Feng Xi was learning to accept Mu Qing’s affection. “This industry is messy. Sometimes you just have to let things go.”
Mu Qing didn’t comment on what she didn’t understand. But if someone like Wang Jiancheng dared mess with Feng Xi, she’d crush them one by one.
After walking for about ten minutes, they returned to the hotel.
“Rest early,” Mu Qing said at Feng Xi’s door.
“You too. After a long day, shower and sleep,” Feng Xi replied, then quickly kissed Mu Qing’s cheek. “Good night.”
Mu Qing smiled. “Good night.”
Chen Ning had just returned and saw the kiss. Her boss was glowing.
So this was the infamous “smell of love”!
Back in her room, Chen Ning saw the gift bag on the table and smiled again.
She’d heard Luo Chu mention this bag if she gave it to her, she’d be thrilled.
Mu Qing really was the most generous boss ever!
Mu Qing had planned to stay with Feng Xi until filming ended and fly back together. But on the third day, the company’s VP called five or six times.
“President Mu, our bid documents were leaked. They know our bottom price,” the VP said, panicked.
“Which project?” Mu Qing asked, frowning.
“The government land in West City tourism development.”
“I see. Contact the project team to redo the bid. We have five days. Everyone needs to work overtime,” Mu Qing said, her tone serious. “Also notify legal. I want to know who leaked it.”
“Yes, I’ll arrange it now.”
Feng Xi looked worried. “Something happened?”
Mu Qing nodded. “Company issue. I’ll need to head back early.”
“It’s okay. I can take care of myself.” Feng Xi understood. Mu Qing had already spent five or six.
