The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 41
Chapter 41
In the darkness, several more people suddenly appeared from the side and ran toward them.
Everything happened very fast. Before Lin Mo could react, she had already been rescued and gently placed on a roadside bench. The person who had tried to kidnap her was now being hauled away by the arms by those newcomers.
Lin Mo sat there, her soul still unsettled, when a cool voice suddenly came from beside her:
“Miss Lin, are you all right?”
Lin Mo raised her eyes and blinked hard several times before she could see clearly. The person in front of her was Xue Luhe’s capable assistant, Xu Lu. Xu Lu’s gaze was even colder than her expression as she said:
“You might need to come with us to the police station to make a statement. This is an extreme fan. We’ve been monitoring this person for a long time and are now preparing to prosecute him and his accomplices.”
There were accomplices? Then just now… wouldn’t she have had zero chance of survival?
Lin Mo looked up at Xu Lu: “Thank you.”
Xu Lu shook her head, expressionless: “It was my boss’s orders to protect your safety. Today we were negligent in our awareness and allowed you to be frightened. My apologies.”
Lin Mo had nothing to say to this. The person who caused her harm was Xue Luhe, and the person who sent someone to protect her was also Xue Luhe. It was too complicated. Lin Mo felt her IQ wasn’t enough to handle it, so she simply stopped thinking about it and followed Xu Lu to the police station.
Unexpectedly, after so many days, the place Lin Mo saw Xue Luhe again was actually inside the police station.
Xu Lu took the culprits inside to record their statements. Lin Mo sat in the waiting area, her mind blank. As her gaze swept across the room, she noticed someone entering.
Xue Luhe’s presence was simply too strong. Just by walking in slowly, her posture and movements were beautiful enough to take one’s breath away. She wore no makeup, which made her excellent features stand out even more. She wore a black knit hat with her thick hair coiled up inside it, making her look neat and clean. But for some reason, her face looked haggard, and she had deep dark circles under her eyes.
Entering the room, Xue Luhe’s first action was to look toward Lin Mo. Lin Mo didn’t avoid her gaze and met her eyes for a moment. However, it was Xue Luhe who looked away first.
Lin Mo raised an eyebrow, watching Xue Luhe find a seat in the back row, separated from her by two rows of chairs. Stranger than strangers… that’s probably for the best.
Lin Mo ignored her and continued to wait for her turn. However, a part of her body felt uneasy; she could still see Xue Luhe in her peripheral vision. Xue Luhe sat on the iron bench with her hands folded into a bridge, eyes half-closed, doing nothing.
Lin Mo felt curious. Although the person who attacked her was a die-hard obsessive fan of Xue Luhe, ultimately this incident didn’t have much to do with Xue Luhe herself. What was she doing here?
Before she could think much, someone called Lin Mo inside.
The police officer was a handsome young man. He brought a pen and a form for Lin Mo to fill out. Watching her fill it in item by item, he asked casually:
“Does your boss know about this? Do you want us to help you contact her so you can take a few days off to rest?”
Lin Mo hadn’t expected the officer to be so considerate and hurriedly waved her hands: “No need, no need. I’m not hurt. I’ll be going to work tomorrow as usual; it’s no problem.”
She didn’t want Qing Jing to know about this, otherwise the other woman would over-care for her, which would put a lot of pressure on Lin Mo. Qing Jing definitely liked her, that much was true, but she never made a formal confession. Every hint was tactfully rejected by Lin Mo, yet she persisted. If Lin Mo rejected her directly without a confession, it would be embarrassing if the response was “you’ve misunderstood.” If she just resigned and left, Lin Mo liked the job too much to part with it. She could only try her best to keep their relationship professional—the less personal talk, the better.
By the time the procedures were finished and she came out, it was already past eight in the evening. Lin Mo was very surprised to find that Xue Luhe was still sitting in the back row, her posture unchanged.
Seeing Lin Mo come out, Xue Luhe lifted her eyelids and looked at her fixedly. Lin Mo instinctively wanted to say something to greet her, but before she could speak, Xue Luhe lowered her head, stood up, and walked out.
Lin Mo watched her leave the police station and get straight into a car to depart, feeling baffled.
Lin Mo: ?????
Until she went to bed that night, her mind was full of question marks. She couldn’t understand why Xue Luhe appeared today. Just to experience the chairs at the police station? To sit there for an hour? If she came for Lin Mo, why didn’t she say a single word the entire time?
It was simply incomprehensible. Lin Mo closed her eyes and forced herself to sleep, but she couldn’t. After tossing and turning until the early hours, she finally drifted into a hazy sleep.
The next day, she woke up with a splitting headache. She forced herself to go to work, but as soon as she sat down in the office, she was drowsy. Xiao Yuan came over to check on her and offered to call Qing Jing over, saying Qing Jing was very good at massages and knew how to deal with headaches.
Lin Mo hurriedly waved her off. Xiao Yuan glanced at her with a strange expression:
“I feel like your mood has been very low lately. Did you have a fight with Xue Luhe that day? I never expected her to treat you like that. I was stunned when I saw that video.”
Lin Mo gave a weak response.
Xiao Yuan spoke carefully: “We didn’t know she was that kind of person before and even pushed you two to be together. Now, I think it’s lucky you didn’t get together. You must stay away from her. I apologize for the things I said before; please don’t take them to heart.”
Lin Mo had long forgotten what Xiao Yuan had said, but since she spoke so sincerely, Lin Mo smiled: “I understand. I won’t mind. We’re friends, after all.”
Xiao Yuan nodded earnestly: “I hope Xue Luhe doesn’t come to harass you anymore. She’s too scary.”
Lin Mo smiled and rested her head on the desk. She thought back to the look Xue Luhe gave her in the police station. How should she describe it? There were very complex things in that gaze that Lin Mo couldn’t even decipher. There was no resentment, but no pleading either. Many emotions were hidden beneath Xue Luhe’s obsidian-like pupils, appearing calm on the surface.
Lin Mo couldn’t figure it out, and her mood was indeed not great. For some reason, after she had harshly rejected Xue Luhe, she didn’t feel the expected sense of satisfaction or relief. Instead, as public opinion fermented online and Xue Luhe’s career took a hit, Lin Mo felt increasingly depressed. Those feelings she had anticipated never appeared.
She often wondered repeatedly: Was I too cruel that day? Did she pierce Xue Luhe’s heart so deeply that it made her act crazy, forcing her regardless of her future and reputation? If she had phrased it differently, more gently, maybe Xue Luhe wouldn’t have snapped, her future wouldn’t be affected, and Lin Mo wouldn’t feel this… constant sense of guilt. It was an undefinable discomfort.
Lin Mo sighed while drinking tea. Qing Jing’s smiling voice came:
“What’s wrong, little girl? Why the sigh? Is the work too difficult?”
Lin Mo looked up at Qing Jing, shook her head, and looked back at her computer: “I’m fine, Sister Qing. I just haven’t figured out a proposal yet. I’m busy right now; I need to make a few options so you can pick one for me to refine.”
Qing Jing nodded with a satisfied smile, sat down next to Lin Mo’s workstation, and whispered:
“The story from the day before yesterday—do you still want to hear it?”
Lin Mo’s movements paused. She stared seriously at the computer and said: “No need, Sister. I’m quite busy right now.”
Qing Jing stared deeply at Lin Mo’s profile for a long while before nodding and saying with a smile: “It’s good to work hard. Then, get to it.”
Qing Jing turned and left with a smile, checked on the work of a few other colleagues, and walked out the door. Lin Mo’s tense shoulders relaxed, and she let out a sigh, followed by another headache: I could have used another excuse just now. Why did I give myself more work? She only had to do one proposal, but now she had to make several. She really brought this on herself; she’d probably have to work overtime today.
The days passed one by one. The weather gradually turned to winter, and it began to get cold. Winter in West City was a dry cold—the air was dry, the leafless trees were dry, and a person’s body and spirit felt dry as well.
Lin Mo went to work and came home diligently every day. Outside of work hours, she didn’t proactively contact Qing Jing. Even if Qing Jing called, she quickly found an excuse to hang up. Conversely, she became close friends with Xiao Yuan, and the two often went shopping on weekends.
During this time, Lu Ruoruo came to visit for a week. Before she arrived, she vowed: “I’m going to share a bed with you; we’re having a bestie sleepover!”
After she arrived and saw the apartment Lin Mo was renting, she immediately grabbed her suitcase and said with a face of sorrow: “Sorry, bestie. I’ve gained weight lately, so this bed probably can’t fit me or my 200,000 yuan worth of cosmetics. I’ll have to go book a suite.”
Lin Mo: “…Fine, fine. You came all this way to see me, I can’t let you suffer. I’ll go with you to find a hotel.”
Lu Ruoruo indeed came specifically to see Lin Mo. She had seen the video online, made a fuss for a while, and worried about Lin Mo’s mental state.
While the two were walking in the mall, Lu Ruoruo said worriedly:
“It seems your choice to run away was really right. How is this Xue Luhe so perverted? I couldn’t have imagined it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. She’s so beautiful, but when she does that kind of thing, her expression is so distorted. It’s terrifying! You must never be with her. She’s followed you all the way to West City; maybe you should change cities again?”
Lin Mo shook her head: “It shouldn’t be necessary. I saw her at the police station last time; she didn’t even look at me properly. She’s probably lost interest… I’m quite ordinary to begin with, so it’s normal for her to lose interest.”
Lu Ruoruo breathed a sigh of relief and nodded: “That’s true. For a favorite of heaven like Xue Luhe, interests are very fleeting. Maybe because your resistance was too fierce, her feelings for you faded… But why do I hear a bit of bitterness in your words? Besides, who’s ordinary? You’re my precious bestie!”
Lin Mo smiled and hugged Lu Ruoruo’s shoulder, saying gratefully: “Alright, I’m not ordinary. I have the best bestie in the world!”
As for the part about being “bitter,” Lin Mo automatically ignored it. She instinctively didn’t think too deeply about it, but a knot remained in her heart, subtly lingering as they continued shopping. Is it bitterness? Why would I be bitter? Lu Ruoruo must have misheard.
Lu Ruoruo helped buy a bunch of flashy things for Lin Mo—several handbags worth hundreds of thousands of yuan, not to mention exquisitely tailored coats and handmade wool sweaters. After the shopping, they visited local tourist spots, and then Lu Ruoruo prepared to return home.
Lin Mo went to see Lu Ruoruo off. At the airport, she watched her enter the boarding gate and then turned to leave. As she passed near the VIP exit, she saw a large group of people gathered. Someone was holding a banner that read “Protecting the best Hehe-zi in the world.”
Lin Mo’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly picked up her pace, keeping her head down to distance herself from them. But at that moment, someone in the crowd suddenly shouted:
“It’s her! That’s her!”
Lin Mo looked up in panic and saw faces filled with anger. Several people—men and women—suddenly surrounded her. Lin Mo ran as fast as she could, but within a few steps, she was blocked by fans coming from other directions.
“It’s you! You’re the reason our President Xue is being cursed!” “Did you deliberately provoke President Xue that day? Can you come out and clarify!” “Why do you want to ruin President Xue’s career? She just has a bit of a temper, but she has no grudge against you. Please come out and clarify!” “President Xue is definitely innocent. Are you marketing yourself? Trying to ride her coattails?”
One angry face after another, their mouths wide as they questioned Lin Mo incessantly. People kept pushing forward, and the pressure came crashing down. Lin Mo searched in all directions for a gap to escape but couldn’t find one. Within the swaying circle, Lin Mo’s range of movement grew smaller and smaller. She didn’t know what else to say and was so anxious she was about to cry, only managed to say: “It wasn’t me, it really wasn’t me… I didn’t mean it…”
But those fans kept talking to themselves with faces full of indignation, each looking like they were upholding justice. They were all firmly convinced the fault lay with Lin Mo, pressing closer without listening to her explanations.
Lin Mo looked up; the crowd was dense. She couldn’t find a single security guard and didn’t know how to call for help. She could only wave her arms, trying to push past the fans to run.
“Don’t run! Make things clear today!” A tall male fan, full of anger, blocked Lin Mo’s retreat and shouted aggressively: “Everyone, come look! The woman who framed President Xue is right here!”
The group of fans who were still anxiously waiting to greet the flight heard this and all looked over. Lin Mo fearfully endured the gazes of so many people. She was extremely panicked, even wanting to cover her face, and felt very wronged. It clearly wasn’t my fault… why are these people doing this?
This batch of fans who stayed were the most fanatical. They already had a conclusion in their minds—that the content of that video must have been specially edited. It might be true that Xue Luhe pinned her to the bar, but it must have omitted the part where the other person provoked her first.
One couldn’t hear what the two were saying in the video, but fans had magnified it many times and could see the strong rejection and coldness on Lin Mo’s face, which wasn’t the panic one should normally have.
Based on this expression, these fans had judged Lin Mo guilty in their circles. Now, seeing Lin Mo right here, they were like flies seeing meat, swarming over in a large group, surrounding Lin Mo in layer after layer. Someone not knowing the situation would probably think Lin Mo was the celebrity they were chasing.
“Quickly, say what method you used!” “President Xue isn’t that kind of person. You must have poked her sore spot! Apologize to President Xue!” “Exactly, President Xue is so good to her fans and such a great actress, a true talent—how could she do such a thing!” “Don’t play dumb. We are all rational fans. If you tell us, we’ll go clarify. Speak up!”
Many fans with blurred faces squeezed to the front, standing almost body-to-body with Lin Mo, while more people kept pushing from behind. All sorts of questions washed over her like a tide, almost completely drowning her.
Lin Mo felt like she was drowning. Her cries for help and struggles couldn’t get out. The waves of people around her made her feel a bit nauseous. Many mouths were constantly opening and closing; many figures flickered about. The air was stagnant and thick. Lin Mo couldn’t open her mouth, her vision began to blur, and her mind was in total chaos. She wanted to push through, but with so many people surrounding her in layer after layer like a solid wall, she couldn’t break out!
Finally, a fan couldn’t help but push her. This action was like flipping a switch, and immediately, several hands pushed over! Lin Mo was pushed back and forth in the crowd, unable to stand steadily. She stumbled, her hands trying to grab something to maintain balance, only to be pushed away with disdain.
She couldn’t help but shout: “What are you doing! Go away! Go away, sob sob…”
Tears fell, and Lin Mo finally covered her face and cried.
“See, she has a guilty conscience! This is what she did!” “What’s the point of crying now? We don’t buy the ‘playing pity’ act. We want you to apologize!”
Lin Mo cried louder and louder, her heart feeling like it was weighted with a stone—miserable and heavy.
Just then, there was a commotion in the crowd. Many people suddenly moved aside to create a path, and many others cried out in surprise:
“Ah! President Xue, you’re here!” “President Xue! You’re so handsome and beautiful! Baby, why are you thinner? Take care of yourself!” “My baby sob you’re too beautiful, we support you!”
The crowd parted automatically. Xue Luhe, like a deity crossing a flood, strode in. Seeing Lin Mo covering her face and crying, a look of heartache flashed across Xue Luhe’s eyes. She suddenly raised her arm to wrap it around Lin Mo’s shoulder, pulling her into her embrace. She gently patted Lin Mo’s back, her eyes seemingly containing nothing else but Lin Mo’s loose hair and ears.
“Don’t be afraid. I’m here. I’ll take you away.”
Xue Luhe’s familiar and steady tone was like a clear stream flowing through Lin Mo’s ears into her heart. It instantly moistened her parched and anxious heart. The panic and fear from just now quickly vanished upon hearing this voice. It was replaced by a sense of peace that even Lin Mo herself found surprising.
Holding Lin Mo in her arms, Xue Luhe looked up and swept her gaze across all the fans. Those fans instantly retreated. Anyone could see that the meaning of Xue Luhe’s gaze was singular: Warning!
The tall male fan stared at Lin Mo in disbelief, murmuring in a low voice: “How can this be? President Xue and this girl… what’s their relationship?”
Everyone had the same question, but no one dared to ask Xue Luhe. At this moment, Xue Luhe’s expression and protective actions spoke of her irritability, which was ready to explode like a giant wolf about to attack.
Several fans were scared away immediately, and the rest automatically made a path, watching as Xue Luhe, half-supporting and half-carrying Lin Mo, walked out. Several bodyguards and assistants protected Xue Luhe from the front and back, maintaining a wide distance. Only then did Lin Mo finally feel the air return.
She followed Xue Luhe’s steps, took several deep breaths, and raised her hand to wipe the tear marks from her face.
Xue Luhe took her all the way to her luxury van before letting go and bringing over wet wipes. Her first instinct was to directly wipe Lin Mo’s cheek, but she hesitated and didn’t, instead handing the wipe to Lin Mo.
Lin Mo took the wipe dazed and wiped her face mechanically. After finishing, she saw a trash can under the seat and threw it in.
Xue Luhe sat beside her and instructed the driver: “Go to XX residential area first.” That was the name of the area where Lin Mo lived.
Lin Mo was stunned and turned to look at Xue Luhe’s beautiful but serious profile.
An assistant beside them couldn’t help but say: “You have an event to attend later; going there might make you late…”
Xue Luhe said plainly: “Cancel the event.”
The assistant looked blank and surprised: “But, but that’s the biggest event you’ve landed in these days…”
Xue Luhe gave him a cold glance. She didn’t even need to speak; she just waved her hand. Other assistants and bodyguards came up and pulled that assistant to the back.
Xue Luhe didn’t turn to look at Lin Mo, only speaking in a low voice: “I’m sorry. Twice in a row, it was my fans causing trouble. I didn’t manage them well.”
Lin Mo had nothing to say and only gave a faint response after a long pause: “Mm.”
The car drove at high speed. The road from the airport to the city was quite long. The two people in the car sat like that, not speaking or doing anything else. Lin Mo checked her phone twice; there were no new messages, so she put it down again. Xue Luhe kept her head tilted, looking at the scenery outside as if those desolate and lonely dry winter branches were exceptionally beautiful.
Lin Mo occasionally turned her head secretly to look at Xue Luhe’s profile. It felt like she hadn’t seen this perfect face for over a month. She seemed to have lost a bit of weight, and her state was a bit dimmer than before. However, the bridge of her nose was still just as straight, her eye sockets just as deep, and those eyes were still like obsidian—startlingly beautiful.
Lin Mo wasn’t used to the atmosphere between them; it felt strange. Before, no matter what, they always had things to say when they were together, but now it was completely silent—silent and awkward. Usually, Lin Mo would start to liven up the atmosphere, maybe be a bit playful, but today she didn’t have the mood for it, and secondly… she didn’t want to act too un-serious in front of Xue Luhe.
To her surprise, after not seeing each other for so long, Xue Luhe didn’t say anything else besides the part at the airport. She really does have no interest in me anymore, right? Rescuing me at the airport was just a matter of convenience, and sending me home was also just convenient. Sure enough, everything was settled after that time, and Xue Luhe might be looking for a new target now.
Lin Mo actually had something she really wanted to know—that was the experience of the original host and Xue Luhe as childhood playmates. How old were the two children when they met? When did they meet?
And what did they go through together to decide on a promise of marriage? After growing up, Xue Luhe mistaking Mu Fei for her childhood playmate was reasonable, but why did she suddenly want to reinvestigate this matter? And how did she find out the real childhood playmate was Lin Mo?
Lin Mo was full of curiosity about these things but couldn’t ask at all. Asking would make it seem like she was slapping her own face after what she said before. She had clearly said before that childhood playmates and childhood promises had absolutely nothing to do with the current her, who had amnesia.
Lin Mo felt a bit of a toothache. When she was saying harsh words, it felt great for a moment, but now she was at a conversational dead end. She thought back and felt that at that time, she might have been angered by Xue Luhe’s somewhat bewitching forced kiss; a small portion of what she said was out of anger, so it came out very harsh.
This was the point she had repeatedly reflected on later, always feeling a sense of guilt, but now it seemed the time for explanation had passed.
Amidst their relative silence, Lin Mo looked at Xue Luhe again, summoned every ounce of her courage, cleared her throat first, and then said:
“Um… did you just come back from out of town?”
Xue Luhe shifted her gaze from the window, gave Lin Mo a very quick and light glance, and then turned back to the window. “I just came back from the head office in Su City.”
Oh… the head office.
Lin Mo was once again at a loss for words. The topic she had just opened floated lightly in the air, landed slowly, and vanished. Xue Luhe doesn’t want to talk to me at all…
Lin Mo sighed secretly in her heart, lowered her head, and began to play by counting the zipper teeth on her clothes.
Time spent with Xue Luhe always passed very slowly. This long and monotonous airport road seemed to have no end, stretching forward forever. Lin Mo grew tired of counting things and raised her head to relax her eyes, looking out the window.
She first looked at the scenery on her side of the window, found it boring after a while, and then looked at the window on Xue Luhe’s side. The scenery on both sides was equally boring—monotonous and repetitive, with no beauty to speak of. Lin Mo felt like yawning just looking at it.
Suddenly, her eyes widened as she stared carefully at the window. She discovered that on the window on Xue Luhe’s side, her own profile was clearly reflected! And Xue Luhe remained focused on the window, as if she hadn’t noticed the change in Lin Mo’s expression, motionless.
A narcissistic thought gradually emerged in Lin Mo’s mind: She couldn’t be looking at my reflection on the window, right?
Bah, Lin Mo, are you worthy!
Lin Mo gave herself a mental slap. What was she thinking at a time like this! Why was Xue Luhe staring at the window? Because she didn’t want to look at her! If she wanted to look at her, she would just turn her head. Was Xue Luhe the type to be shy? Of course not!
Truly sentimental nonsense. The “ugly person making trouble” refers to exactly me. Lin Mo, oh Lin Mo, have some sense!
After warning herself with a grimace, Lin Mo immediately focused on her breathing, closing her eyes halfway to slowly calm her thoughts. She didn’t see that as Xue Luhe stared at her reflection on the window, her tightly set mouth slowly curled up. It looked like satisfaction, yet also like a sense of relief.
Once Lin Mo closed her eyes, she slept until the end of the trip, all the way to the entrance of her residential area. Xue Luhe called her a few times but didn’t wake her up. She simply reached out and shook her shoulder, but Lin Mo raised her hand like she was swatting a mosquito and hit Xue Luhe’s hand, murmuring:
“Don’t bother me…”
Xue Luhe chuckled. The smile at the corner of her mouth then faded, and sadness welled up in her eyes. She turned her head and said in a low voice to the assistants:
“Don’t open the door yet. Wait a while until she wakes up naturally.”
So a group of assistants and bodyguards didn’t dare to even breathe loudly, staring at Lin Mo with wide eyes, praying in their hearts that she would wake up quickly so they could get off to eat, use the bathroom, or buy things… anyway, just wake up soon!
Lin Mo was sleeping heavily, her head constantly drooping. After a while, it bent a bit too far. Xue Luhe hesitated again and again, gritting her teeth and thinking for a long time, before finally offering her shoulder. She was a bit taller than Lin Mo and sat a bit higher, so her shoulder was perfectly positioned beneath Lin Mo’s head.
Worried that her shoulder was too thin and would be uncomfortable to lean on, Xue Luhe grabbed a cushion from the back of the seat and tucked it over her shoulder so that Lin Mo’s head rested right on the cushion.
Several assistants and bodyguards watched this series of actions, their eyes almost popping out of their sockets. Was this still the pampered President Xue who never took care of anyone?
About another half an hour passed before Lin Mo woke up, rubbing her eyes and yawning with her mouth open. She opened her eyes and stretched, elongating herself like a cat, then twisted her neck. Only then did she realize she seemed to have woken up from Xue Luhe’s shoulder. She shifted her gaze and saw Xue Luhe placing a small cushion back on the seat.
So… so that soft and comfortable “bread pillow” in her dream was actually that cushion plus Xue Luhe’s precious shoulder!
Lin Mo was startled and felt an urge to jump out of the car and flee! She had actually slept on Xue Luhe’s shoulder for so long? The image was too beautiful; she didn’t dare imagine it! If someone else saw this…
Then, Lin Mo heard the voice of an assistant behind her asking: “President Xue, the young lady is awake. Shall we…”
Lin Mo was so embarrassed she wanted to crawl into a hole. So everything was seen? How humiliating! Did she drool? If she left drool on this precious luxury van, she would be too ashamed to hold her head up for the rest of her life!
Xue Luhe waved her hand at the assistants, and everyone quickly opened the doors and got out, scattering in an instant. Only Xue Luhe and Lin Mo were left in the car.
Lin Mo looked out the window and saw they were already at her building, her heart feeling a bit apprehensive. She couldn’t just run away like this, could she? Should she invite Xue Luhe inside for a cup of tea? But if Xue Luhe really came in for tea, the underwear she hadn’t tidied before leaving this morning…
While Lin Mo was having an internal battle, Xue Luhe spoke:
“Go back and rest if you’re tired. I won’t get out. I still have things to do and must leave. Regarding those fans today, I will give you an explanation.”
Xue Luhe’s tone was flat, as if she were speaking of the most mundane thing. Her eyes didn’t look at Lin Mo, turning toward the window again. The car door on Lin Mo’s side was already unlocked; she only had to pull the handle to get out. Lin Mo pulled it, and the door slid open with unexpected smoothness.
As she was getting out, she looked back and said to Xue Luhe seriously:
“Um… you, take care of your health.”
Xue Luhe turned her head, unable to hide her surprise. For a moment, Lin Mo saw her eyes shining like diamonds. The corners of her mouth also curled into an imperceptible arc; she was truly happy.
Xue Luhe responded with equal seriousness: “Thank you, I will. You too, take care of your health!”
Lin Mo was almost shocked by the way Xue Luhe looked. This person didn’t just not look like the Xue Luhe from the villa period; she didn’t even look like the Xue Luhe from a month ago who said she wanted to pursue her. But where exactly was the subtle change? Lin Mo couldn’t say for sure; she just instinctively felt it was completely different.
Xue Luhe gave a standard smile—the kind of smile a female celebrity gives for the camera. It was very charming, but also very official.
Lin Mo suddenly had an impulse and invited: “Why don’t you come up with me and sit for a while?”
Lin Mo looked at her slightly pale lips with expectation, wanting to know what she would say. She only heard a response carrying a sigh:
“…No need. Go back and rest.”
