The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 36
Chapter 36
Lin Mo’s numb and weary brain struggled to process such complex information. She sat frozen on the bed for a long time before asking uncertainty:
“You’re saying… you’re going to sit there and stay with me? All night?”
As she asked, doubt filled her mind: Is this person really the same Xue Luhe who crashes through life without a single thought for others’ feelings? Was she so out of it that she couldn’t see the woman’s true face? Was this actually Qing Jing?
However, the beautiful face that appeared to be Xue Luhe’s gave a quiet nod.
Lin Mo was speechless. She opened her mouth, then closed it again. Not knowing how to handle the situation and emboldened by her lingering drunkenness, she simply flopped backward. She pulled the quilt over her head, covering herself completely. Breathing slowly under the covers, she tried to calm herself down.
But the thought of Xue Luhe sitting right outside her bedroom door made it impossible to be calm!
What is wrong with her today? Did she come here specifically to scare me? Or is she planning to carry me away as soon as I fall asleep? Even though she said she wouldn’t make her go back, Lin Mo knew better than to trust a word out of her mouth! Xue Luhe was a pathological liar!
Lin Mo’s mind raced under the blanket until her head ached and the air grew thin. Feeling oxygen-deprived, she finally pulled the quilt down to her chin and gasped for air.
Xue Luhe’s voice drifted over: “What’s wrong? Were you suffocating?”
Lin Mo was speechless again. She truly felt her eyes were deceiving her. In this world, there shouldn’t be a version of Xue Luhe this gentle and considerate! Where was the domineering, hostile, arrogant, and annoying Xue Luhe of the past?
The more she thought, the less she understood, but she couldn’t resist her body’s exhaustion. Carrying a heart full of disbelief, she quickly drifted into sleep.
Xue Luhe sat on the stool, taking out her phone to handle business matters. She usually didn’t sleep until the early hours anyway, often struggling with insomnia until dawn, so staying up late didn’t bother her. On the contrary, since she only had to look up to see Lin Mo, she felt quite good; her inspiration for work even seemed more abundant.
But… Xue Luhe was still Xue Luhe.
At 2:30 AM, Xue Luhe looked up and stretched her neck, which let out a sharp “crack.” On the large bed before her, Lin Mo had sprawled out like a giant, flailing octopus. Her breathing was steady but a bit heavy, occasionally pausing.
Alcohol affects sleep quality. For someone with an alcohol-sensitive constitution like Lin Mo, there was a risk of choking on vomit or suffocating in her sleep. That was what Xue Luhe had been worried about, but seeing that Lin Mo hadn’t eaten much that night and showed no signs of nausea, she seemed safe.
Xue Luhe went to the bathroom, washed up quickly, and came out wearing only a white dress shirt, leaving her long legs bare. She walked to the bedside and stood there for a long time, staring at Lin Mo’s sleeping face. Then, with a slight smile curling her lips, she climbed onto the bed.
Lin Mo took up most of the space, leaving only a small strip for Xue Luhe to lie down on. She dominantly draped her hand over Lin Mo’s belly, feeling it through the thin fabric. Soft and squishy, like a marshmallow. This little thing has put on quite a bit of weight recently.
Usually, if Xue Luhe lay down at this hour, she would toss and turn until 4:00 AM, sleep for three hours, and then start work. But now, even without a pillow or a place for her head, she felt waves of sleepiness crashing over her like a tide. Her eyelids were too heavy to lift. She couldn’t even manage to move her hand away from Lin Mo’s stomach as she drifted into a deep sleep.
Lin Mo had a sensual dream. In the dream, a woman with an obscured face held her close, lingering until dawn.
The sounds of birds, traffic, and people drifted through the screen window as the city began to wake up. Lin Mo slowly opened her eyes. Her head throbbed, her eyelids felt heavy, and she felt as exhausted as if she’d run a marathon. Her body felt incredibly heavy.
She shifted, half-raising herself, and suddenly realized someone was beside her. She turned her head slightly and caught a glimpse of a slender silhouette from the corner of her eye…
Holy crap! Xue Luhe! What the hell?!
Lin Mo’s eyes nearly bulged out of her head! Her mind was a stampede of a thousand frantic thoughts. A hundred thousand “whys” circled above her. She yanked the quilt up to cover her upper body completely. With trembling hands, she reached out and lightly poked the person next to her.
This beautiful person was wearing only a white shirt—looking at her too long was enough to cause a nosebleed! Lin Mo aimed for the shoulder and pushed. She pushed twice, but the woman didn’t seem to feel a thing, continuing to sleep like… an innocent child.
Lin Mo licked her lips, feeling bone-dry. She tried to recall last night’s events. Her memory was a mess. She knew she’d been drinking—quite a lot, it seemed—and then there was a knock. She’d opened the door, and Xue Luhe had come in… She couldn’t remember much after that, just blurry images and flashes of light.
For instance, Xue Luhe’s face being inches away… Or the familiar cold fragrance completely enveloping her… Or her legs being tangled with the other woman’s…
The bridal carry… being thrown over a shoulder… being placed on the bed… a leaning body… and most crucially, noses touching, cheeks brushing…
These fragmented, messy scenes were enough to cause a tidal wave in Lin Mo’s heart! She looked back at Xue Luhe in nothing but a white shirt and black underwear… and then down at herself, wearing only a long, loose nightgown.
So, what exactly happened last night?
She had to admit, given the current scene, the probability of “drunk mistakes” was about 89.9%. Even worse, she’d had that very active, very sensual dream! Was it really a dream…
Lin Mo didn’t want to think about it anymore. She scrambled to the edge of the bed, stood on the rug, took two deep breaths, put on her slippers, and fled the scene! After a quick wash and getting herself together, she walked back into the bedroom with a glass of tea to wake Xue Luhe up.
When she entered, Xue Luhe was already awake, sitting on the bed in a daze. Lin Mo couldn’t even look at her twice, fearing the woman might realize something. What if she demanded Lin Mo “take responsibility”? Xue Luhe was already difficult enough; what kind of trouble had she caused last night!
But she couldn’t ask directly! What if the woman was waiting for her to bring it up so she could extort her? If Lin Mo showed she knew what happened, wouldn’t that give Xue Luhe a legitimate reason to demand she accept the confession? Otherwise, she’d be… a heartless jerk!
Lin Mo felt she had moral standards—she wouldn’t be a jerk. So her only option was to play the fool. She asked casually:
“Why are you here? I’ve forgotten everything about last night.”
She couldn’t help but emphasize the last four words. Listen closely: I’ve forgotten everything! No matter what you plan to say, I won’t admit to it! Faking amnesia is my specialty!
Xue Luhe looked up, her eyes clear and a slight curve on her lips: “Morning.”
The greeting was too brief, and that charming smile—why was she so confident? She clearly has something on me! Lin Mo’s heart was in turmoil, but she maintained a calm, steady smile:
“It’s not early. I have to go to work. You should leave.”
Xue Luhe touched her nose and smiled: “You go first. I’ll leave once I’ve cleaned up.”
For some reason, Lin Mo didn’t want to leave first. She stood at the door with her arms crossed, trying to look stern: “Isn’t it… a bit inappropriate for you to stay in my house alone?”
Xue Luhe shifted her posture, intentionally showing off her long legs—slender, beautiful, fair, and smooth. Every positive adjective could be applied to those legs. Lin Mo had to admit that for a split second, she was dazed. If that dream wasn’t a dream… then I’m the one who really gained something! Ordinary people rarely see legs that perfect in a lifetime, let alone anything else!
Thinking this, the frustration she felt upon waking started to dissipate.
Xue Luhe’s voice drifted over: “We lived together in one house for over a year. There’s nothing inappropriate about it.”
Lin Mo grew annoyed: “But… but this is my rented apartment! I don’t want you staying in here!”
Xue Luhe touched her nose again and suddenly changed the subject: “Did you really forget what happened last night? You aren’t… faking it again, are you?”
This time, Lin Mo’s mouth was faster than her brain: “Who’s faking? Why would I be faking? You think everyone is like you, full of lies! I just don’t remember! And what do you mean ‘again’? I told you before, I really did lose my memory!”
After the words shot out like a machine gun, Lin Mo realized her tone might have been a bit too… agitated? Usually, that kind of agitation makes people suspicious.
Xue Luhe let out a soft laugh with a hidden meaning: “Since you say so, I’ll naturally believe you. Whatever you say goes.”
Lin Mo felt a strange sense of… doting in those words? Honestly, this Xue Luhe was getting more and more skilled. She wasn’t just irrationally dark anymore; she had a silver tongue. With that face and those words, she could win over a lot of girls. Unfortunately, Lin Mo was definitely not one of them!
Lin Mo’s expression turned cold, and she let out a contemptuous huff: “Believe what you want. Get out of here; I’m going to work.”
Xue Luhe let out a long sigh, purposely dragging out her voice dramatically: “After doing such excessive things last night, to treat me like this this morning… how cold the world is!”
Lin Mo felt incredibly guilty. She didn’t know what this “viperous beauty” was implying, but it sounded a lot like… that! Especially now, as Xue Luhe stood up under Lin Mo’s gaze, her shirt disheveled, buttons fastened unevenly, the gaps between them inviting endless imagination.
Stop! Don’t think about it anymore, or you’ll fall into her trap! Lin Mo quickly cautioned herself, looking down and making way for Xue Luhe to pass.
Xue Luhe wore only the white shirt, her curves faintly visible through the fabric. She walked with a graceful, alluring sway. From the back, she looked like a classic starlet who had just climbed out of a warlord’s bed
walking with a delicate, languid air.
Looking at that silhouette, two lines of poetry surfaced in Lin Mo’s mind: “Helped up by attendants, she was weak and delicate; this was when she first received the imperial favor.”
Though the poem described the curvaceous Imperial Consort Yang, it didn’t seem out of place when applied to the slender Xue Luhe; that unique, languid charm felt the same.
However, the more Lin Mo thought about it, the more terrified she became! First receiving imperial favor… so do women who just experienced ‘that’ always end up looking like this? Even her back looked incredibly feminine—satisfaction, pleasure, and happiness seemed written all over her!
Lin Mo didn’t want to look anymore, feeling like she’d committed a crime. She gathered her things and sat in the living room, waiting for the other woman to finish. The sound of running water came from the bathroom; Xue Luhe was likely washing up, but it didn’t sound like a shower.
Whew… if she isn’t showering, maybe last night was just a platonic night under the covers. Lin Mo’s heart was like a scale: “Platonic” on the left and “Not Platonic” on the right. She was using everything she saw this morning as weights. Earlier, the right side was almost full, but now, the left side was finally pulling back a bit.
After a while, Xue Luhe finally emerged, having put on her pants and jacket. She no longer looked as relaxed as she had when she first woke up. She had put back on the mask of the domineering CEO and cold Movie Queen.
She looked at Lin Mo, then at the bottle on the sofa: “Who gave you this bottle of alcohol? The percentage is high, but it tastes sweet like juice. A novice like you shouldn’t drink it.”
For some reason, Lin Mo just wanted to argue. Whenever she saw Xue Luhe’s overbearing attitude, a surge of irritation would flare up. “I’ll take gifts from whoever I want! It’s none of your business!”
Xue Luhe clenched her fists and rolled her eyes—clearly furious, but she forced it down. She took two deep breaths, using her acting skills to adjust her facial muscles into a pleasant smile:
“I’m telling you this because no matter who gave it to you, you shouldn’t drink it outside in the future. Even at home, it’s best to drink less. If you like this flavor profile, I’ll find some similar ones for you to try.”
Lin Mo stiffened her neck. She knew the woman was right, but she didn’t want to back down, and she certainly didn’t want to listen to her: “I’ll drink what I want, where I want! What business is it of yours? Who are you to tell me what to do? Oh, just because you went crazy the other day and said you wanted to pursue… pursue me, you think you can control me? Keep dreaming!”
When she got to “pursue me,” Lin Mo was so nervous her tongue tripped, making a strange sound.
Xue Luhe made a curious face as if she hadn’t heard clearly: “What did you say I wanted to do?”
Lin Mo: “Didn’t you say you wanted to pursue me?”
Xue Luhe shook her head and very seriously pointed a finger at herself: “I said, I.” Then, she solemnly pointed that same finger at Lin Mo’s face, her expression grave but her eyes burning: “Because I like you, I want to pursue you.”
Her steady gaze was like a burning flame. Under her high nose, her thin lips were slightly pursed from tension. This version of Xue Luhe had a powerful energy that made one instinctively want to… believe her.
Lin Mo thought to herself that she must be going mad—actually wanting to believe someone like Xue Luhe? It must be that last night’s events had affected her subconscious…
Seeing Lin Mo’s wandering gaze and lack of response, Xue Luhe lowered her eyes, looking somewhat hurt. Lin Mo pretended not to notice and stood up with her keys: “Let’s go. I’m going to be late for work.”
Xue Luhe spoke naturally: “I’ll give you a ride. My car is on the B1 level.”
Lin Mo waved her off repeatedly as she followed Xue Luhe out the door toward the elevator. “I don’t need a ride. Just leave. What did I say last time? See less of me and work more!”
Xue Luhe held the elevator door for Lin Mo, only letting go once she was inside, then pressed the floor button. Hearing this, she laughed: “Work… as long as I want it, countless famous directors will send me scripts. But you—I want you, but you won’t give yourself to me.”
What kind of bold words are these! Lin Mo’s cheeks turned beet red! At this moment, she wished she wasn’t such an internet-savvy veteran; then she wouldn’t have understood the implication and wouldn’t feel this incredibly awkward atmosphere! Why wasn’t she a pure “little white flower”? Why was her mind so dirty!
Every atom of air in the elevator felt like the embodiment of awkwardness. Lin Mo didn’t want to say a word, staring at the walls as if the tacky advertisements were suddenly more interesting than a blockbuster movie.
Xue Luhe smiled quietly and threw out another line: “You were… very cute last night.”
Lin Mo’s face was red to the human limit. If someone threw her into a pot right now, she’d come out as a spicy crawfish! She looked everywhere but at the person next to her, pretending she’d suddenly gone deaf, and even pursed her lips to whistle. But the whistle was wobbly and shaky, filled with nerves.
Lin Mo immediately regretted it. She whistled to relieve the awkwardness and show she didn’t care, but it only made things worse! It made her seem even more bothered and self-conscious!
Fortunately, the elevator doors opened. Lin Mo practically fled, sprinting out of the elevator and through the lobby. It wasn’t until she was outside the complex that her racing heart calmed down a bit.
Once on the bus, she had time to check her messages. There were several WeChat messages from Lu Ruoruo recommending some new luxury cosmetics, which Lin Mo skimmed through. There were also several messages from Li Kexin, frantically gossiping about her and Xue Luhe and demanding an “exclusive scoop.” Lin Mo skipped those too.
Then, she saw two messages from her boss, Qing Jing. One was from late last night: “Are you okay?” And one was from this morning: “I came to pick you up. I waited for half an hour but didn’t see you, so I had to leave.”
Lin Mo felt a wave of guilt. When the first message came, she was arguing with Xue Luhe. She had completely forgotten about her boss, leaving her waiting for half an hour. She was already late, and she couldn’t make the bus go any faster. Standing in the crowded bus, swaying with the vehicle, she replied to Qing Jing:
“I am so, so sorry! Sister Qing, I overslept this morning. I am truly sorry; it won’t happen again!”
Qing Jing’s reply came back quickly: “It’s okay. It was my fault for not telling you in advance; I wanted to surprise you. Breakfast is on your desk—remember to eat when you arrive. I’m going on a business trip this afternoon. I spoke to Chef Liu earlier and told him to make the char siu you like.”
Looking at such a long message, Lin Mo felt a warm glow but also a seed of doubt. Why was Qing Jing putting so much care and consideration into an ordinary employee like her? Could she… maybe… also have feelings for her? Or at least a high level of favorability?
Lin Mo decided she would ask Lu Ruoruo about it when she got to the office.
As she stepped off the bus and saw the coffee shop, the chaotic mood she’d been in since waking up slowly settled. This coffee shop always had that magic—a gentle boss, lively staff, and the scent of coffee in the air giving a sense of relaxation.
No wonder people came here so early to sit in the corner… Wait, people? The corner?
Lin Mo took a closer look at the figure in the corner and felt speechless. Isn’t that freaking Xue Luhe herself?!
She didn’t even go into the office. She walked straight to the table across from Xue Luhe, sat down aggressively, slapped the table, and whispered: “What now? Great Movie Queen Xue, do you think this is your personal palace? Or your private coffee room? Why do you come here every day? Didn’t I tell you not to interfere with my work!”
Xue Luhe was wearing sunglasses. Since she was in a coffee shop, she couldn’t wear a mask, leaving the fine, beautiful contours of her lower face fully exposed. Even though she’d covered her most striking feature—her eyes—even her tiny chin was enough for customers to recognize her!
Lin Mo was beyond furious. If this continued, one of them was going to go crazy. Given that Xue Luhe was already crazy, Lin Mo miserably realized it would definitely be her.
Xue Luhe’s lips moved slightly as she spoke softly: “It’s okay… I’ve booked out the whole place today. No one else will come in.”
Lin Mo: “…Darn.”
Is being rich that great? Sorry, being rich really is that great.
Lin Mo was truly speechless. If she could book the whole place, it meant the boss had agreed. What could a small employee like her say?
It was just hard on the servers working today. They had no one to serve, so they just stared at Xue Luhe, gossiping while trying to find an excuse to approach her.
“Hey, hey, she raised her hand! Is she calling a server? I’m going over!”
Lin Mo happened to pass by one of the servers. Hearing this, she wordlessly blocked them: “You don’t need to go. She only raised her hand to roll up her sleeves so she can eat her dessert easier. It’s her habit.”
The server, about to get annoyed at being blocked, saw it was Lin Mo and laughed: “No wonder! I was wondering who knew Xue Luhe so well—must be a hardcore fan? I didn’t expect you were the reason she was here, Lin Momo! Momo, do you know her really well? Tell us, what is she like in private?”
Lin Mo froze, her cheeks burning. She hadn’t realized she’d already become “the woman being pursued by Xue Luhe” among her colleagues. And of all things to ask, why ask about her in private? What was Xue Luhe like in private?
Lin Mo fell into thought, reminiscing as she spoke: “She… she’s actually very busy in private. She has a company to manage and works so much she often sleeps in her study. And that’s when she has no filming schedule; if she’s filming a movie, she’d be working on set until midnight and managing the company until the early morning.”
“Wow, she doesn’t sleep? Successful people really are different!” “She’s such a great actor and she manages a company too? That’s amazing. No wonder she’s the uncrowned queen of the entertainment industry!” “I wish she wouldn’t work so hard. Look how thin she’s gotten; it’s heartbreaking…”
The colleagues showered her with praise. Li Kexin, along with a few others, winked at Lin Mo: “Momo, why don’t you just accept her early? You’ll probably say yes in the end anyway, and you might not meet someone this amazing again. Don’t miss out!”
Lin Mo looked like she was suffering from constipation and fled back to the office. She thought to herself: Don’t miss out my foot! if you went through what I went through, you’d be praying to ‘miss out’ every day!
Lin Mo saw the breakfast Qing Jing had brought on her desk. The soup dumplings and porridge had gone cold. She heated them in the microwave, ate them quickly, and went back to work.
When you’re working, time flies. When Lin Mo looked up again, everyone was getting ready to go out for lunch.
“Let’s go, let’s go! The table is booked!” “Why the sudden group lunch?”
Lin Mo was confused and followed Xiao Yuan from the finance office to ask. Xiao Yuan was beaming. Her face was naturally round, and her smile made her look like a festive “lucky doll.” She spoke quickly, explaining without pause:
“It’s all thanks to you! Xue Luhe saw everyone was free today and said she’d treat everyone to lunch. She booked a five-star hotel! I’ve never been to one. It’s a rare chance to see it, let’s go, let’s go!”
Lin Mo wanted to say she wasn’t going, but before she could speak, Xiao Yuan grabbed her arm and dragged her away.
Exiting the office, Lin Mo looked up and saw Xue Luhe. She had noticed earlier that Xue Luhe had changed into casual clothes—a T-shirt and jeans. She looked very young and in a great state. Right now, Xue Luhe was surrounded by a group of female servers ten years her junior, yet she didn’t look out of place at all; she blended right in.
The girls were laughing, and Xue Luhe had a slight curve on her lips, a rare smile that made everyone excited. Seeing this, Xiao Yuan charged forward like a cannonball and said loudly:
“President Xue! I’ve been a hardcore fan of yours for three years. Thank you so much for today—thank you for giving me a chance to meet my idol up close!”
Xue Luhe patted Xiao Yuan’s shoulder. Xiao Yuan immediately stood up straighter, like a student meeting a teacher, trying her best to show how well-behaved she was.
Other servers began competing over how long they’d been fans: “Me, me! I’ve liked you for a year!” “One year is nothing! I’ve known your name since middle school—that’s ten years!” “That doesn’t count! Xue Luhe is a household name. By that logic, my mom is her fan too; she watches her movies every day!”
Xue Luhe didn’t speak, maintaining her star persona. While approachable, she wasn’t really listening to them. She was simply looking at Lin Mo through the crowd.
In those eyes, a moving light flickered. Even though it had only been a few hours, Lin Mo felt Xue Luhe looked even more beautiful. Her whole body radiated a… mysterious sense of satisfaction. Happiness seemed to shine from her face and body.
Something clearly happened. Lin Mo thought, but she didn’t want to dig deeper. She turned to walk toward the edge of the crowd, intending to slip away while everyone was excited. If Xue Luhe wanted to treat people to lunch, let her; Lin Mo wasn’t going.
However, with Xue Luhe there, Lin Mo was like a marked prey; there was no way to escape.
“Lin Mo! Where are you going?” Someone had followed Xue Luhe’s gaze and seen Lin Mo trying to leave.
Caught off guard, Lin Mo could only reply: “Oh, I forgot something… I have to go home and get it…”
The other servers let out disappointed murmurs. But then, a voice as deep and pleasant as a cello rose above the noise and reached Lin Mo’s ears.
“Momo, do you know how many years I’ve known you?”
Lin Mo felt an ominous premonition. She turned around with a frown and saw the playful glint in Xue Luhe’s eyes. Xue Luhe stood in the light and, quite intentionally, wrinkled her nose and smiled:
“Eat lunch with us, and I’ll tell you a secret.”
