The Movie Queen’s Charming Little Wife: Feigning Amnesia Online - Chapter 33
Chapter 33
On the exterior wall of the coffee shop, Boston ivy climbed halfway up. It was autumn now, and the leaves were a mix of yellow and green, appearing half-bright and half-shadowed under the sunlight.
The morning sun spilled through the window frames, filling the room. The floor, tables, and chairs were all tinted gold, brimming with vitality.
It wasn’t quite coffee hour yet, so there were only two customers in the large shop—one at the east end and one at the west end.
The customer at the east end was a middle-aged balding man, irritably tapping away at a laptop keyboard. In comparison, the customer at the west end was much more pleasing to the eye.
That guest was still dressed in black, wearing a hat, and this time even sunglasses. She sat in a corner facing the wall, silent and unmoving. Like an old monk in meditation, she didn’t look like she was there for coffee at all.
The shop’s servers were busy cleaning and organizing ingredients. Amidst their bustling, they couldn’t help but steal glances at the guest in the corner, as if she possessed some magical power that inexplicably drew people in.
“Is it still her?” “She was just here yesterday… Does she like our coffee?” “I’m so excited! Xue Luhe actually drank the coffee I served her!” “But I was the one who made it! Oh no, I was so nervous, I feel like I didn’t do a good job!” “Does anyone know why she’s actually here? Is our shop about to become famous?”
As the servers whispered among themselves, Lin Mo walked out and was immediately pulled aside by Li Kexin, a colleague she was close with.
Li Kexin winked and pointed toward the guest in the west: “Do you know who she is? I can hardly believe it!”
Lin Mo answered calmly: “Of course I know. It’s just Xue Luhe. What’s the big deal?”
Li Kexin raised an eyebrow and teased with a grin: “Ooh, look at you! Not even putting Xue Luhe in your eyes. We all want to go talk to her but don’t dare. Can you get a few signatures from her?”
Lin Mo shook her shoulders arrogantly: “How is that difficult? Children, bring me paper and pen. This ‘Old Monkey’ shall go fetch some signatures for you!”
Hearing this, Li Kexin subserviently brought over a notebook and pen, thrusting them into Lin Mo’s hands. She watched as Lin Mo walked toward Xue Luhe.
“Hey, hey, do you guys think Momo can really get the signatures?” “Momo is usually quite brave, but I’ve heard Xue Luhe is difficult to get along with. I hope she doesn’t hit a wall…”
Everyone stood behind the counter, watching Lin Mo approach Xue Luhe’s table as if seeing a hero off to the battlefield.
Then, everyone let out a startled, confused gasp: “Huh?”
Because the moment Lin Mo arrived, Xue Luhe immediately stood up and pulled out the chair for her!
Super Movie Queen Xue Luhe, personally pulling out a chair for someone! Li Kexin’s eyes were turning green with envy; she wished she could take that chair home and worship it!
What happened next made their jaws drop even further. Lin Mo actually sat down without a hint of hesitation or surprise!
Not even a polite refusal? Not even a bit of excitement?
Could it be they were all mistaken? Was that person not actually Xue Luhe, but just someone who looked exactly like her?
Lin Mo had no idea how shocked her colleagues were, nor did she realize that with those few simple actions, she had become a legendary figure in their hearts whose “depth could not be measured.”
She placed both hands on the table, adopting a tense posture. She looked directly into Xue Luhe’s eyes and asked seriously:
“Why are you here again today?”
After pulling out the chair, Xue Luhe now poured a glass of lemon water for Lin Mo and placed it in front of her. Her slender, beautiful fingers gently nudged the glass, her fingertips tapping the glass with a pleasant, tiny clinking sound.
Lin Mo picked up the glass and took a sip. Feeling the sensation was quite unique, she took another.
Xue Luhe’s voice rang out slowly:
“I came today because I wanted to tell you that I plan to officially start pursuing you.”
The water Lin Mo had just sipped sprayed across the table with a loud Pffft!
It was earth-shattering!
Lin Mo’s eyes were wide as saucers. She stared at Xue Luhe as if looking at a monster, completely stunned. Even when Li Kexin came over to wipe the water and blinked frantically at her in signal, Lin Mo failed to receive it.
Lin Mo stared at Xue Luhe, feeling like her entire being was cracking. Because it was so incomprehensible, her mind went blank, losing all capacity for understanding.
She murmured: “Am I living in a dream?”
Li Kexin, wiping the table nearby, paused for a moment. Her movements slowed down significantly, and her lowered head perfectly hid the smile at the corners of her mouth.
Xue Luhe, however, let out a soft laugh: “So, in your dreams, you hope I would pursue you?”
Li Kexin almost dropped the rag. This time she couldn’t hide her reaction; she stared at Xue Luhe in horror, her lips trembling, wanting to speak but stopping herself.
Xue Luhe glanced at Li Kexin and actually gave a slight smile, saying softly: “Please give us some private space.”
Li Kexin left in a daze, clutching the rag so tightly that the veins on the back of her hand bulged.
Lin Mo’s face remained blank. She opened her mouth to argue, but suddenly remembered that sensual dream she’d had a couple of nights ago. She fell into a state of hesitation and contradiction.
How could I possibly want her to pursue me? But then what was that dream about?
She couldn’t think straight anymore. Hearing those words, her first instinct was horror and disbelief, but then a tiny, bizarre sense of vanity bubbled up.
Ultimately, though, horror won.
Lin Mo finally tried to speak, her voice sounding a bit raspy: “You… why are you saying things like that? You’re not still trying to… to trick me into going back, are you?”
Xue Luhe’s expression didn’t change. She maintained a faint smile, likely using some of her acting skills; her voice was extremely approachable.
“If you are willing to come back with me, then of course I would be very happy. However, even if you are unwilling to return for the time or being, I will still pursue you.”
Lin Mo’s head was filled with question marks: “Why? Why on earth? A favored child of heaven like you—good looks, strong professional skills, a woman at the top of the food chain—and you’re here to pursue me? Has your brain short-circuited?”
Lin Mo could barely stop herself from cursing. This was simply too bizarre to have any credibility. She felt like Xue Luhe’s current demeanor was entirely suspicious! Was she planning something huge?
Lin Mo’s imagination ran wild, and she filled in an entire script in her head! Xue Luhe is definitely up to something! First, she’ll use sweet talk about pursuing me to numb my senses, then wait until I’m off guard to kidnap me back to the villa, lock me in a dark room, and punish me severely!
However, the sharp and beautiful woman across from her simply rotated her coffee cup gently and slowly spoke:
“The only reason one person pursues another is… they like them.”
A bolt from the blue struck Lin Mo right on the head!
Lin Mo felt petrified, like a statue. Though her body sat there, her internal spirit had shattered into pieces. She couldn’t help but raise a hand to pat her ears and dig at them—no blockage there.
Then why on earth did she hear such magical words? From the mouth of the “Big Psycho,” “Big Demon King,” and “Big Villain”… came the word “Like”?
Like?
Does Xue Luhe understand what “liking” is? Does Xue Luhe really like me?
Lin Mo opened her mouth mechanically and said: “You… what do you like about me? I’ll change it! Don’t worry, just say the word and I’ll change it immediately. I can fix any habit!”
Xue Luhe only shook her head. Though her lips were curved, those obsidian-black eyes held no laughter, only seriousness and determination. She whispered:
“I don’t know. It’s just you. As long as it’s you.”
Outside the window, the wind blew, making the poplar leaves characteristic of the North rustle against each other. The sound was fragmented and soft, drifting in alongside the scent of cool, freshly cut grass.
Mixed in was a scent Lin Mo was very familiar with—the cold fragrance unique to Xue Luhe. It was very close to the scent of grass and trees, yet strangely carried that chill.
Lin Mo rubbed the tip of her nose, feeling it get cold. The unique scent made her nose itch. Her heart was in turmoil; there was a bit of bitter fear, but also a bit of sweet enjoyment.
To be liked by someone like this… does it mean I’m actually quite charming? But then again, it also proved she was truly unlucky!
After rubbing her nose, Lin Mo rubbed her temples, then her cheeks, and finally cupped her chin in her palms. It was a gesture that made her feel safe.
“Then… today counts as the official start?”
Xue Luhe nodded.
Lin Mo whispered: “Then what if I reject you right here, right now? What will you do?”
Xue Luhe fell silent. Those dark eyes looked deep into Lin Mo’s, her gaze seemingly possessing hooks, while also radiating a deliberate charm—soul-stirringly beautiful.
Lin Mo grew more nervous under the gaze, her fingers digging small dimples into her cheeks. Finally, the deep, cool voice spoke:
“Then, I will continue to pursue you.”
Lin Mo’s heart, which had been in her throat, fell back down with a thud until it was out of sight. She had thought Xue Luhe was preparing for murder, arson, or kidnapping—at least that would be more her style.
But this? Continuing to pursue?
This isn’t psycho at all! This isn’t Xue Luhe!
Is the person inside this Xue Luhe still the original? Could she have switched souls like Lin Mo did?
Lin Mo scrutinized Xue Luhe’s face but couldn’t see anything different, except that her expression was gentler than usual. Even her eyes weren’t as piercingly sharp as before; on the contrary, the tiny, misty mole at the corner of her eye made her gaze look as soft as a dream.
She really did look like a woman in love…
Lin Mo didn’t think too deeply about it. Her intuition just told her this was wrong; this person didn’t even seem like Xue Luhe. But since she couldn’t confirm anything, she said tentatively:
“Well… you can pursue me, but you must abide by the laws of the country. Don’t damage anyone else’s life or property. Just pursue me casually—send a message or something, that’s enough, okay? Oh, and don’t send any gifts. I won’t accept anything you send.”
Xue Luhe had a strange tenderness in her expression. She actually didn’t argue, only nodded and gave a soft “Mm.”
This “obedient schoolchild” act made it impossible for Lin Mo to adapt. Seeing such a powerful face make such a harmless expression… it was a bit of an eyesore.
She used her hands to gesture seriously: “Since you’re pursuing me, you have to listen to me on some things, right?”
Xue Luhe nodded slightly, her eyes brightening a bit.
Lin Mo continued gesturing, pointing at the nearby servers and then drawing a large circle in the air: “These people, and this place—I hope you won’t come back here in the future, and don’t disturb our work, okay?”
Xue Luhe nodded.
Lin Mo felt she might be pushing her luck, but she couldn’t help saying: “Also, try to reduce the number of times you come looking for me. Ideally, look for me once a month. Can you do that?”
Xue Luhe: “…Can that even be called pursuing someone?”
Lin Mo: “…It is. Between us, it’s pure ‘revolutionary friendship’; we don’t care about those superficial things. Gifts and meetings—those are tactics used by ordinary people. Are you an ordinary person? You are not! Go film movies more often, manage your company, and don’t look for me all the time. A serious woman is the most beautiful! The more serious you are, the more likely I am to be moved, maybe?”
This stream of nonsense actually sounded quite logical; Lin Mo almost convinced herself.
However, Xue Luhe didn’t fall for it. She just laughed softly and touched her chin: “I think you are lying to me.”
Lin Mo: “…How could that be? We go way back, our relationship is so good, right? How could I possibly lie to you?”
Xue Luhe laughed again, a laugh that made Lin Mo’s back go cold: “Do we have a relationship? It’s probably a negative one.”
Lin Mo thought to herself: More than negative, it’s absolute zero! Seems this woman is quite aware of how annoying she is.
Just then, Qing Jing, wearing her manager uniform, walked over from the back. She asked Lin Mo with a bright smile:
“What are you two chatting about? You’ve been talking for so long.”
Lin Mo tried to be vague: “Oh, just talking about things from the past and all that…”
Xue Luhe’s cold voice suddenly cut in:
“I am confessing my feelings to her.”
