The Movie Queen's Beloved Crybaby Alpha - Chapter 75
Ning Yunshu’s antics left everyone speechless yet amused.
Right after speaking, she handed the microphone to Wei Youning, clearly cutting off any chance for further questions.
The host had no choice but to shift the focus to Wei Youning and Xu Youyou.
After interviewing all four guests with standard, formulaic responses, the event moved on to photo sessions and autograph signings. It wasn’t until dusk that everyone finally boarded the cable car to leave.
With the live stream already over, Ye Qinglan leaned unhesitatingly against Ning Yunshu’s shoulder in the cable car, complaining, “I’m exhausted, absolutely exhausted.”
“You’ve worked hard,” Ning Yunshu chuckled, squeezing her hand affectionately.
Du Wenyun watched their clingy behavior and teased, “Tsk tsk tsk, the moment the cameras are off, you two drop the act.”
“What nonsense,” Ye Qinglan muttered. “How is this an act? We’re just naturally like this.”
“Oh really?” Du Wenyun gave her a knowing look.
“Professor Xu, control your wife,” Ye Qinglan turned to Xu Chaoyang.
Xu Chaoyang shrugged. “You know how it is, in our household, Du Laoshi holds the highest rank.”
Ye Qinglan clicked her tongue in mock disapproval.
Since the cable car only had the four of them, their banter continued freely. But once they disembarked, Ye Qinglan toned it down slightly.
After wrapping up with the staff, they headed straight back to the hotel. A quick meal at the restaurant, and everyone retired early for the night.
The next day, Ye Qinglan and Ning Yunshu returned home attending etiquette classes and handling work as usual until Lin Xuesong’s call came through.
At the time, Ye Qinglan had just finished her lesson and was lounging in Ning Yunshu’s office. Seeing her mother’s name on the caller ID, she answered.
“Hey, Mom, what’s up?” Ye Qinglan asked.
“Lanlan, where are you right now?” Lin Xuesong countered.
“Just finished class. I’m with Xiaoshu,” Ye Qinglan replied.
Lin Xuesong continued, “Perfect. Your birthdays are coming up in a few days. Any plans? Since you’re finally together, shouldn’t you celebrate properly?”
Ye Qinglan froze, instinctively checking the date on her phone before glancing at Ning Yunshu. “About that let me discuss it with Xiaoshu first?”
Hearing this, Ning Yunshu, who had been reviewing documents, looked up curiously. Ye Qinglan motioned for her to wait until after the call.
Lin Xuesong didn’t object. “Alright, talk it over. Just let me know once you’ve decided, understood?”
“Got it. I’ll call you later?” After exchanging goodbyes, Ye Qinglan hung up.
She then walked over to Ning Yunshu’s desk. “Xiaoshu, any plans for the next few days?”
Ning Yunshu blinked in confusion before realization dawned. She grinned. “Ah, I was actually planning to surprise you, jiejie.”
Ye Qinglan arched an eyebrow. “Oh? What are you hiding this time?”
Ning Yunshu laughed. “Nothing bad! But since you’ve figured it out, I’ll confess, I’ve arranged a birthday party and drafted a guest list. Want to check if I missed anyone?”
With that, she pulled out a guest list from the documents in her hand.
Ye Qinglan looked at it and laughed, teasing, “Well, well, Ning Yunshu, I thought you were busy, but you were secretly working on this?”
Ning Yunshu gave an innocent smile. “How is this not considered being busy?”
“You!.” Ye Qinglan took the list and glanced through it. All their familiar friends were on it, including some of Ye Qinglan’s current acquaintances.
Unable to hold back her curiosity, Ye Qinglan looked at Ning Yunshu and asked, “How did you know all these names?”
Ning Yunshu chuckled. “Don’t you remember? We met them at Xiao Wenjin’s birthday party last time.”
“Oh, right!” Ye Qinglan suddenly realized, then smiled at Ning Yunshu. “I didn’t expect you to remember all of them.”
“I only recalled the ones who seemed close to you, so I wanted to check if I missed anyone,” Ning Yunshu explained.
Ye Qinglan shook her head. “No, this list is perfect.”
“Good.” Ning Yunshu nodded, then suddenly smirked.
“Hmm? What’s so funny?” Ye Qinglan asked, noticing her expression.
Ning Yunshu curved her lips, gazing at her with amusement. “It’s just this birthday party feels more like an engagement celebration, doesn’t it?”
Ye Qinglan’s face instantly flushed red.
“W-what are you thinking about?”
Ning Yunshu shrugged. “It’s bound to happen sooner or later anyway.”
“Dream on!” Ye Qinglan shot her a playful glare.
Ning Yunshu laughed. “Since you’re satisfied with the list, I’ll have Qin Yun handle the arrangements?”
“Mm, go ahead.” Ye Qinglan nodded.
Ning Yunshu called Qin Yun over, who took the list, confirmed the details, and left the office.
Stretching, Ning Yunshu said, “Alright, work’s done. Shall we head home?”
Ye Qinglan sent a quick message on her phone before replying, “Sure.”
Once home, they snacked, played games all afternoon, and retired early after a simple dinner.
The next day, Ye Qinglan attended her classes as usual but sent Ning Yunshu a message afterward.
[Ye Qinglan]: Sister Ke asked me to come to the company something about the script.
Ning Yunshu didn’t suspect anything and replied that she’d wait for her to finish.
Reading the message, Ye Qinglan sighed in relief before getting into Zhou Tiantian’s car and heading to the company to meet Ke Ying.
Ke Ying wasn’t surprised to see her and simply said, “If you’re planning to give jewelry as a gift, I wouldn’t recommend it. Her family owns a jewelry business, it might even come off as insulting.”
Ye Qinglan sighed. “I know that, which is why I’m stuck.”
She wore a troubled expression.
Ke Ying studied her before suggesting, “Why not think of something else? What does she lack?”
Ye Qinglan grew even more frustrated. “She doesn’t seem to lack anything.”
Ke Ying’s lips twitched as she looked at the young woman. “So you’re asking us to brainstorm for you?”
Ye Qinglan pouted. “I thought more minds would help.”
Ke Ying sighed. “Then why not ask Ning Yunshu’s family? Those closest to her might have ideas.”
“Right!” Ye Qinglan’s eyes lit up, and she immediately pulled out her phone to call Yun Xi.
“Lanlan, what made you suddenly think of calling me?” Yun Xi quickly answered the phone and asked with a laugh.
“Aunt Yun, I have something to ask you about Xiao Shu,” Ye Qinglan said.
“Oh? About Xiao Shu? What do you want to know?” Yun Xi’s eyes immediately lit up as she eagerly inquired.
Feeling slightly embarrassed and aware of two pairs of eyes watching her, Ye Qinglan cleared her throat lightly. “Well, I wanted to ask if there’s anything Xiao Shu might be lacking?”
Hearing this, Yun Xi instantly understood Ye Qinglan’s intention. She smiled meaningfully and replied, “What do you think?”
When Yun Xi tossed the question back at her, Ye Qinglan was momentarily taken aback.
“Huh? What do you mean?”
Yun Xi burst into laughter. “Silly child, she’s been thinking about you for so long. What do you think she wants most?”
Ye Qinglan suddenly grasped Yun Xi’s implication, and her cheeks flushed involuntarily.
“I… I understand.”
After hanging up, Ke Ying asked, “Well? What did she say?”
“Ahem, nothing much.” Ye Qinglan rubbed her nose and abruptly stood up. “I think I have an idea now. I need to go back and prepare. Sweetie, give me the car keys, no need to drive me back.”
“Huh? Oh.” Zhou Tiantian quickly handed the keys to Ye Qinglan, who took them and hurried off.
Watching her leave, Zhou Tiantian blinked in confusion before turning to Ke Ying. “Ke-jie, what do you think Sister Ye is planning to give as a gift?”
Ke Ying raised an eyebrow. “How should I know? I just hope she keeps it low-key this time. I don’t want any sudden overtime again.”
No sooner had she spoken than the office landline rang. Ke Ying picked it up. “Yes?”
“Ke-jie, Assistant Qin from J.S is here to see you. She says she’s delivering invitations for you and President Xiao,” the receptionist informed.
“Oh? Let her in, then,” Ke Ying replied before hanging up.
“Looks like I’ll get to see firsthand what our little troublemaker has planned,” Ke Ying muttered with resignation.
Zhou Tiantian blinked again, and Ke Ying waved her off. “Alright, Sweetie, you can take a break now.”
“Okay, bye, Ke-jie.”
After Zhou Tiantian left, Ke Ying’s office door soon knocked again. “Come in,” she called, standing up.
Qin Yun walked in, smiling at Ke Ying. “Seems you already know why I’m here.”
Ke Ying nodded, and Qin Yun handed her two invitations. “These are for you and President Xiao. Please pass hers along.”
Taking the invitations, Ke Ying couldn’t help but ask, “Want to grab lunch?”
Qin Yun sighed regretfully. “I’d love to, but not today. I’ve got a pile of invitations to deliver before reporting back to the boss.”
Understanding, Ke Ying nodded. “Fair enough. Let’s meet up another time.”
Qin Yun grinned and waved. “I’ll let you know when I’m free. See you.”
“Take care.”
…
Meanwhile, Ye Qinglan drove straight home, hastily kicked off her shoes, and rushed to the study. Throwing open the door, she took a deep breath as her eyes landed on the rows of photo albums lining the shelves.
Materially, she truly didn’t know what else she could give Ning Yunshu. Money wasn’t an issue for Ning Yunshu, she could buy anything she desired. Therefore, she had to approach this from another angle.
She casually picked up a photograph, one filled with pictures she had taken with Ning Yunshu back in the day.
This was a unique treasure, something she had cherished all these years.
And now.
It was time to pass it on to its other rightful owner.
