The Movie Queen's Beloved Crybaby Alpha - Chapter 66
The person Yan Yao hired worked surprisingly fast. By noon the next day, she received a call from an unknown number.
Hearing the caller’s request, Yan Yao chuckled softly.
“Of course, I can help you. But let’s make a deal then.”
Bai Qian never expected to be found so quickly.
Staring at the woman in black sitting in her living room, flanked by two bodyguards, cold sweat poured down Bai Qian’s forehead.
Still, she forced herself to remain composed. “Who are you? Why are you breaking into my home? Don’t you know this is illegal?”
Yan Yao smiled faintly. “Let me introduce myself. I’m Yan Yao, a private investigator. I’ve been hired to have a little chat with you, Miss Bai. Don’t worry, we were invited in.”
With that, she clapped her hands. The bedroom door opened, and a thin, wiry man stepped out. The moment Bai Qian saw him, her face turned deathly pale.
“What, what do you want?” she stammered.
“Relax, Miss Bai. Believe me, we mean no harm.” Yan Yao crossed her legs casually, watching her with an amused smirk.
“We just want to talk. I’m sure you already know why we’re here, so this should be simple. I hope I don’t have to spell it out for you to understand what needs to be done.”
Bai Qian’s face twisted, her teeth chattering uncontrollably.
“Why? Why?! You’re the ones who ruined me! If it weren’t for Ye Qinglan if it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be like this! And now you’re trying to silence me? How dare you?!”
“Shh.” Yan Yao raised a finger to her lips, signaling for silence.
“Miss Bai, let me make one thing clear.” She fixed her with a steady gaze. “I’m not here to listen to your grievances. I’m here to resolve my client’s concerns. I’d prefer a peaceful solution, it’s better for you, for her, and for me.”
“But if you refuse to back down, my client is fully prepared to answer your questions in court. And when that happens, it won’t just be your reputation at stake. Your brother and the things he’s done might land him in prison for even longer than you. I doubt that’s something you or your family want to face.”
The moment Yan Yao finished speaking, Bai Qian’s mother burst out of the bedroom like a madwoman, slapping and screaming at her daughter.
“Have you lost your mind?! Are you going to throw away our family’s future your brother’s future like it’s nothing?! Do you want to destroy us all?!”
Bai Qian shrieked in response. Yan Yao frowned. “Mrs. Bai, please stop.”
Ignoring her, the woman continued her tirade. Yan Yao exchanged a glance with her bodyguards, who immediately stepped in to separate the two.
“I didn’t come here to watch your family drama. All I want is a reasonable explanation and a definitive answer.” Yan Yao’s voice turned icy.
“My time is limited, and I don’t want to waste it. You have one minute to think it over. Give me your decision.”
Bai Qian bit her lip, unwilling to comply. But her mother shrieked, “What are you hesitating for?! Do you really want to ruin your brother’s life?!”
“No, Mom, that’s not what I meant!” Bai Xi quickly explained, but her mother remained relentless.
Her younger brother then spoke up with a trembling voice: “I don’t want to go in there. You have to help me, you must help me! You’re the one who told me to do this! Miss Yan is willing to pay off my debts, please help me!”
Bai Xi clenched her teeth and looked at Yan Yao, who didn’t even glance back, instead fiddling with her phone as if oblivious to the chaotic scene before her.
Filled with resentment yet held by her weak spot, Bai Xi had no choice but to concede bitterly, “Fine, I agree.”
Only then did Yan Yao look up, smiling faintly. “I’m glad you’ve made this choice, Miss Bai. But for security, we’ll need you to draft a written pledge.”
Bai Xi snapped, “Aren’t you pushing this too far?”
Yan Yao replied calmly, “Miss Bai, you should understand this is us giving you a chance, not you negotiating with us.”
In the end, under Yan Yao’s supervision, Bai Xi wrote and signed the pledge, pressing her fingerprint onto it.
Satisfied, Yan Yao tucked the document away and stood. “Now that this is settled, I should take my leave.”
As she stepped out, she deliberately turned back to look at Bai Xi.
“Miss Bai, I hope you understand, don’t try to shake a tree with the strength of an ant or block a chariot with your arms.”
With that, she left with her entourage.
Once back in the car, Yan Yao called Ning Yunshu.
“Hello, Yan Yao,” Ning Yunshu answered quickly, though the background noise suggested she was still at the promotional event.
“Boss Ning, everything’s been resolved. You don’t need to worry about her threatening you or Miss Ye anymore,” Yan Yao said lazily.
Ning Yunshu chuckled. “Good, I understand. Thank you for your hard work this time.”
“No trouble, I get paid to handle things.”
Ning Yunshu smiled. “The money will be transferred to your account, don’t worry.”
“With your word, I’m at ease. I won’t keep you time for me to enjoy myself.”
“Alright.”
After hanging up, Ning Yunshu finally felt a weight lift from her chest.
She glanced toward the entrance leading from backstage to the front, just as the others returned from wrapping up. She stood to greet them.
“Big sis, you’re done?”
Ye Qinglan smiled slightly. “Yes, everything went smoothly today.”
Ning Yunshu grinned. “That’s good. There’s something I want to tell everyone.”
“What is it?” they asked curiously.
Xu Su, however, gave her a knowing look. “It’s settled?”
“As expected, nothing escapes you, Director Xu. You saw right through it,” Ning Yunshu teased.
“Enough joking, what exactly happened?” Xu Su pressed.
“Yeah, Xiao Shu, what’s going on?” Ye Qinglan’s curiosity was piqued as well.
Ning Yunshu immediately explained with a smile, “As we suspected, it was Bai Xi behind it. I’ve already taken care of it, so no need to worry.”
Though the group had been resentful over the trouble Bai Xi stirred up, hearing Ning Yunshu’s reassurance put their minds at ease.
“If Little Boss Ning has handled it, then there’s nothing left to worry about. Let’s pack up and head back to the hotel today was exhausting,” Du Wenjun sighed.
“These past few days have been more tiring than filming,” Wei Youning couldn’t help but complain.
Xu Su’s lips twitched: “Shouldn’t this be routine for you all?”
“Even routine tasks can be tiring,” Du Wenjun replied matter-of-factly.
Xu Su sighed but still instructed everyone to pack up and return to the hotel first.
On the way back, Ning Yunshu suddenly leaned close to Ye Qinglan’s ear and whispered, “Sister, are you tired?”
Ye Qinglan glanced at her: “What? Is there somewhere you want to go?”
Ning Yunshu chuckled softly: “As expected, nothing escapes sister’s notice.”
Ye Qinglan found it amusing: “Otherwise you wouldn’t have asked if I’m tired, would you?”
Ning Yunshu giggled before saying, “There’s a musical here tonight. I’d like to watch it with you.”
“A musical!.” Ye Qinglan’s interest was piqued. “We’ll need to ask Director Xu for permission first.”
“Alright,” Ning Yunshu agreed cheerfully.
Upon reaching the hotel, the two approached Xu Su with their request.
“A musical? You youngsters really have boundless energy, don’t you need rest?” Xu Su eyed them skeptically.
Ning Yunshu quickly interjected, “I checked the timing. It won’t interfere with our rest.”
Xu Su rolled her eyes, “I wasn’t asking you. I’m asking Qinglan, she has to perform tomorrow while you don’t.”
Ning Yunshu touched her nose sheepishly and looked at Ye Qinglan.
Ye Qinglan smiled reassuringly, “Don’t worry, Director Xu. I still have energy left and won’t let it affect tomorrow’s work.”
Xu Su studied them both before relenting, “Fine, as long as you manage your time properly.”
“Thank you, Director Xu,” Ye Qinglan said promptly.
Ning Yunshu beamed, “I knew Sister Xu would be the best!”
Xu Su ignored her, adding, “If you disrupt Qinglan’s work, I’ll have to report to Teacher Bai.”
Ning Yunshu stuck out her tongue playfully, “No need to worry, I definitely won’t.”
“Go on then, but keep a low profile,” Xu Su waved them off.
“Understood.”
Accompanied by Zhou Tiantian, the trio headed to the theater. Ning Yunshu had already secured box seats. Once inside, Zhou Tiantian tactfully took a seat at the edge, giving the two their space.
Ye Qinglan teased, “You’ve been planning this for a while, haven’t you?”
Ning Yunshu feigned innocence, “Didn’t you always want to see one? Since we’re here and I found out they were performing, I booked the tickets in advance. If we had time, great. If not, no big deal.”
“But if we really couldn’t make it, wouldn’t that be a waste of money?” Ye Qinglan asked amusedly.
Ning Yunshu lifted her chin proudly, “No problem, money is the last thing I lack.”
Ye Qinglan sighed, “That sounds so infuriatingly smug.”
Ning Yunshu nuzzled against her.
“As long as it makes sister happy. Besides, you’ve been working hard lately, what’s wrong with relaxing with a musical?”
She said it with such conviction.
Ye Qinglan couldn’t help but laugh and pinch her cheek, “How thoughtful of our busy CEO Ning to spare time for me.”
Ning Yunshu’s eyes sparkled mischievously as she whispered in Ye Qinglan’s ear, “Does that mean sister has a reward for me?”
Ye Qinglan’s cheeks flushed, and she pushed Ning Yunshu’s head away lightly, “You’re incorrigible.”
Ning Yunshu pouted at her, clearly not planning to leave unless Ye Qinglan gave a satisfactory answer.
Ye Qinglan found her expression rather amusing.
Glancing subtly to ensure Zhou Tiantian wasn’t looking their way and that their secluded spot shielded them from other private rooms, she mustered some boldness and planted a kiss on Ning Yunshu’s cheek.
“A little advance payment, the rest can wait until we get home.”
Ning Yunshu’s invisible tail wagged furiously again.
“Deal!”
