The Movie Queen's Beloved Crybaby Alpha - Chapter 19
Ning Yunshu woke up in the morning feeling suffocated.
The moment she opened her eyes, she saw Ye Qinglan clinging to her tightly, like a child hugging a teddy bear, with an arm draped over her chest, no wonder she had struggled to breathe.
Turning her head slightly, she found Ye Qinglan’s fluffy head nestled against her shoulder, still deep in sleep.
Ning Yunshu’s heart softened instantly. She shifted carefully, allowing herself a little more breathing room, then gazed at Ye Qinglan’s peaceful sleeping face, her eyes brimming with contentment.
If not for fear of waking her, Ning Yunshu would have reached out to trace every feature of that face, the one that had haunted her dreams for seven long years.
Every line, etched in her heart.
After watching Ye Qinglan for a while, Ning Yunshu finally took a deep breath and carefully extricated herself from her embrace, managing not to wake her. She grabbed her clothes and slipped out of the bedroom.
Lin Xuesong, who had been scrolling through her phone in the living room, looked up in surprise and whispered, “Yunshu? You’re up so early?”
Ning Yunshu smiled softly. “I’m used to it.”
Lin Xuesongnodded, then glanced toward the bedroom. “Qinglan’s still asleep?”
Ning Yunshu hummed in agreement, prompting a teasing look from Lin Xuesong. “So? Did she kick you off the bed last night?”
At the memory of Ye Qinglan clinging to her in sleep, Ning Yunshu’s ears burned. “No, Aunt Lin. I’ll go wash up first.”
“Go ahead.” Lin Xuesong waved her off.
After freshening up and changing, Ning Yunshu returned to find Ye Wentao preparing breakfast and moved to help.
Ye Wentao quickly protested, “Ah, Yunshu, you don’t need to, I’ve got this.”
Ning Yunshu chuckled. “It’s fine. Two pairs of hands will make it faster.”
Seeing her insistence, Ye Wentao relented, and they worked together.
By the time breakfast was ready, Ye Qinglan still hadn’t stirred. Lin Xuesong clicked her tongue. “That girl, still not up? Yunshu, go wake her so she can eat.”
“Alright.” Ning Yunshu set down the plates and headed back to the bedroom.
The room was quiet, Ye Qinglan curled up under the blankets, fast asleep.
Ning Yunshu’s eyes curved fondly as she gently nudged Ye Qinglan’s shoulder. “Jiejie? Jiejie?”
Ye Qinglan mumbled drowsily before blinking awake. “Hmm?”
Ning Yunshu smiled warmly. “Aunt Lin was worried you’d miss breakfast, so she sent me to wake you.”
“Okay.” Ye Qinglan pushed herself up, covering a yawn with her hand.
The sleepy, adorable sight made Ning Yunshu’s heart skip, her gaze lingering.
Noticing, Ye Qinglan arched a brow. “Still here? I need to change.”
“Ahem.” Flustered, Ning Yunshu stammered, “I-I’ll just, go now.”
With that, she fled.
Watching her retreat, Ye Qinglan couldn’t help but laugh.
Ning Yunshu hurried back to the kitchen, where Lin Xuesong raised an eyebrow. “Where is she?”
“Uh, changing.” Taking a steadying breath, Ning Yunshu sat at the table.
Lin Xuesong naturally noticed Ning Yunshu’s discomfort but chose not to point it out. Shortly after, Ye Qinglan emerged from changing clothes, prompting Lin to raise an eyebrow.
“Well, well, the young mistress finally graces us with her presence.”
Clearly unwilling to engage with Lin’s teasing, Ye Qinglan simply said, “I’m going to wash up.”
When she returned to the dining table, Ning Yunshu instinctively passed the now-warm congee to Ye Qinglan, who accepted it and began eating.
“Yunshu’s cooking is truly excellent,” Lin remarked between bites.
Ning smiled. “I’m glad you like it, Aunt Lin.”
“Like it? I love it!” Lin laughed heartily.
After the meal, as the two prepared to leave, Lin protested, “What’s the rush? Won’t you stay longer?”
“Mom, I’m joining a film crew in a couple days and need to study the script,” Ye Qinglan replied wearily.
“Ah, fine, fine. Everyone’s so busy,” Lin sighed.
Ye’s mouth twitched. “Mrs. Lin, you never used to be this eager for my visits.”
Lin glared. “Must you always have the last word?”
Shrugging, Ye turned to Ning. “Shall we go together?”
“Yes,” Ning nodded eagerly before addressing the elders, “Aunt Lin, Uncle Ye, we’ll be going now.”
“Alright then, travel safely,” Lin conceded.
“Got it. Bye!”
“Goodbye, Aunt Lin and Uncle Ye.”
They left together, with Ning driving them home.
The moment they arrived, Ye collapsed onto the sofa. “Exhausting. Dealing with my mother is worse than handling Manager Ke,” she muttered.
Ning chuckled, bringing washed fruit from the kitchen. “Aunt Lin’s just playful, it’s endearing.”
Ye grabbed an orange, peeling as she replied, “True, but her constant teasing.”
As Ning smiled, Ye absentmindedly split the orange and offered half. Both froze momentarily before Ye coughed, “It’s too much for me. Help me finish it.”
Ning’s smile brightened as she accepted. “Thank you, sis.”
“Ahem. Don’t mention it.” Flustered, Ye quickly ate her portion and stood. “I’ll go review the script.”
“I’ll call you for lunch,” Ning replied.
Nodding, Ye retreated to her room while Ning attended to work matters.
The day passed quietly each absorbed in their tasks, only meeting for meals. Ning carefully maintained a distraction-free environment for Ye’s script study.
As the holiday ended, Ning returned to work while Ye prepared for her film shoot.
Frowning at the prospect of three months apart, Ye’s gloomy expression caught Ning’s attention. “What’s wrong, sis? You seem upset.”
Meeting her gaze, Ye confessed, “Ning Yunshu, I’m leaving for a movie shoot.”
Ning Yunshu blinked, seemingly still processing the information.
Seeing this, Ye Qinglan gritted her teeth and said, “I said, I’m joining the production crew!”
Ning Yunshu then chuckled lightly, “Oh no, what should I do? Big sister is leaving for filming, and I’ll have no one to keep me company.”
Finally getting a reaction, Ye Qinglan huffed, “So what if you don’t? What are you going to do about it?”
“I’ll miss you,” Ning Yunshu replied swiftly.
Ye Qinglan’s ears burned at her teasing, and she shot her a glare. “Stop with the sweet talk.”
“I’m not! I mean every word,” Ning Yunshu said with a smile.
“Alright, alright. I’ll be away filming for at least two or three months. You’ll have to take care of things at home,” Ye Qinglan said.
Ning Yunshu’s eyes curved into crescents. “Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of everything.”
Ye Qinglan couldn’t help but smile slightly, but Ning Yunshu added, “But, sister, what if I miss you?”
Ye Qinglan paused before replying, “What do you mean, ‘what if’?”
“Can I message or call you?” Ning Yunshu gazed at her eagerly.
Unable to withstand that look, Ye Qinglan muttered, “Do whatever you want. Why ask me?”
Ning Yunshu grinned. “Of course I have to ask. I don’t want to cause you any trouble.”
“So if it’s troublesome, you won’t contact me?” Ye Qinglan arched an eyebrow and scoffed.
“Hmm, then I’ll reach out quietly and try not to bother you,” Ning Yunshu responded just as quickly.
“That’s more like it.” Ye Qinglan finally seemed satisfied.
Ning Yunshu immediately leaned in. “So, does that mean you agree?”
The sudden closeness flustered Ye Qinglan, who pushed Ning Yunshu’s shoulder lightly. “Don’t get so close all of a sudden.”
“Okay,” Ning Yunshu obediently sat back.
“Then I’ll go finish packing,” Ye Qinglan said, standing up.
“Alright, I’ll prepare dinner.”
The film was being shot in the neighboring city of A. Ye Qinglan needed to arrive early to gather at the hotel, so she set off for A City the day before the opening ceremony, driven by Zhou Tiantian.
After checking in at the hotel, she coincidentally ran into Wei Youning, who was also checking in. While their assistants handled the formalities, the two chatted nearby.
Wei Youning looked at Ye Qinglan and smiled. “My, it’s only been a few days, but Teacher Ye’s complexion has improved. Your skin even looks fairer.”
“Really?” Ye Qinglan glanced at herself. “I hadn’t noticed.”
Wei Youning teased, “Of course you wouldn’t notice. It’s only because I’ve spent so much time with you that I can tell.”
Ye Qinglan laughed. “Teacher Wei, you’re always teasing me.”
Wei Youning replied, “I’m just stating the facts. Youth is such a blessing.”
“Come now, you’re still young too.”
With that, the two shared a smile.
“Enough pleasantries. Are you free later after settling in? Let’s grab dinner together,” Wei Youning asked.
Ye Qinglan nodded. “Sure, I don’t have anything planned today.”
Wei Youning said, “Great, let’s meet downstairs after dropping off our luggage?”
“Sounds good,” Ye Qinglan agreed.
“What sounds good? What are Teacher Wei and Teacher Ye planning later?”
A familiar voice chimed in, and the two turned to see Du Wenjun walking in.
“Oh, Teacher Du is here too!” Wei Youning greeted her with a wave.
Ning Yunshu quickly greeted as well: “Hello, Professor Du.”
“Hello there. So, what were you two conspiring about just now? Mind if I join in?” Du Wenjun blinked at them playfully with a smile.
“We were just saying we’d go out for dinner together later. It’d be our honor if you could join us,” Wei Youning replied.
“Sounds great. Let’s all get ready then, see you soon?”
“Yes, see you soon.”
