- Chapter 6 - The Inverted Prison Tower (Part 6) [Rewrite] — So Excited...
As the daylight lingered briefly, Lin Yang bid farewell to Fu Bai.
Ignoring the fact that Lin Lin was a sentient, speaking creature, the space inside its belly was no different from an ordinary stone house. It was equipped with a kitchen, a bedroom, and even a place for bathing.
The ornate birdcage that had been left there previously had been removed and replaced with a single bed. While it didn’t compare to the Simmons mattresses of Lin Yang’s former world, it was clean and comfortable enough.
Clothing from this world had also been prepared—shimmering, ethereal gauze robes that felt very similar to the fabric worn by Fu Bai. Lin Yang had not seen any of the merman-like male humans wearing clothes; indeed, there seemed to be no females among the humans with fish tails.
Lin Yang washed away the blood and filth from his body and changed into the light gauze robe. He sat cross-legged by the low window, looking up at the Prison Tower suspended in the twilight.
The blood-rain and feather-arrows had yet to appear.
00, clutching its own tail, huffed and puffed as it crawled out from Lin Yang’s discarded clothes. Upon seeing Lin Yang’s current state, its heart began to race slightly.
Lin Yang had just bathed. His damp, pitch-black hair draped loosely over his shoulders, soaking into the thin gauze and revealing glimpses of his snowy skin. The dark strands wound like small snakes across his fair, flushed complexion.
Further up was his slender neck. Amidst the swirling steam, 00 noticed a small red mole on Lin Yang’s collarbone. That tiny speck of red seemed to possess a magical allure, making it impossible not to stare at it, draw closer to it, or want to touch it.
Unfortunately, before 00 could reach out, it was pinched by the back of its neck by two damp fingers. Lin Yang, expressionless, held the palm-sized feathered snake up to his eyes. His dark pupils were like frozen ice. “Take one more step, and I will make you vanish from this world immediately.”
00 flattened its ears and nodded frantically.
Lin Yang tossed 00 aside. 00 rolled across the floor several times before scurrying back to sit by Lin Yang’s side, clutching its tail with its tiny hands. “I heard you tell that human you wanted to gain the Evil God’s love. Why the sudden change of heart? Don’t you loathe Him?”
00 thought of something, its golden eyes turning round and wide. “Or could it be that after fighting with the Evil God for a thousand years, you’ve finally… gotten bored of it?”
“No.”
00 was stunned. What do you mean, “No”?
Its tiny brain worked rapidly, scanning through its database of human literature. Suddenly, 00 looked at Lin Yang in disbelief. “Master, you are so wicked! Do you want to make the Evil God fall for you, only to kill Him afterward? Since the Evil God cannot die, wouldn’t He be trapped in a state where He cannot live and cannot die—suffering a pain a thousand times worse than ten thousand arrows through the heart?!”
Lin Yang looked puzzled. “If I kill Him after He falls for me, why would He suffer a thousand times more?”
Lin Yang knew very little of romance. In the harsh survival of humanity, kissing and touching were merely acts for procreation.
00 looked at him suspiciously. “Master, do you really not know?”
Lin Yang shook his head. Consequently, for the next hour, 00 spoke incessantly.
Its lecture could be summarized as: I was abandoned by my cold master and then I forcibly possessed him; I tricked my rival into breaking up and then he blackened; and I slept with a malevolent ghost and then he became my obedient slave.
Lin Yang raised an eyebrow. “Meaning, if He falls in love with me, I can make Him kneel on the ground while I crush His head? And if I break up with Him, He will weep bitterly and beg for me to stay like a humble dog?”
00 fell silent. It shrank its neck, hugged its tail tightly, and silently shuffled a bit further away from Lin Yang. Lin Yang! A femme fatale! How terrifying!
Lin Yang projected the face of Lin—that face that had been devoid of joy or sorrow for a thousand years. If that high-and-mighty Evil God could kneel before him, those silver-white eyes reflecting agony, and all His joy and sorrow were controlled by Lin Yang…
Lin Yang’s fingertips trembled. So excited.
The interests of humanity and the safety of the world were always his first priority. Thus, if seducing Lin was the only way to resolve the survival crisis, Lin Yang would do it without hesitation, no matter how much the monster disgusted him.
And now, a ten-part, solid layer of pure malice had been added to the task.
Lin Yang smiled faintly. If the monster’s body cannot die, breaking its spirit is a fine alternative.
The last light of day faded. Night had arrived. Lin Yang’s fingers tensed as he stared at the silent sky outside the window.
The blood-rain and feather-arrows did not fall.
Lin Lin let out a yawn. “It seems I won’t have to be in so much pain tonight.”
Lin Yang asked, “Will it be safe tonight?”
Lin Lin shook its head. “Not necessarily. Sometimes the punishment the Evil God sends down lasts all night, and sometimes it’s only for a moment. It’s rare to have a completely safe night. These past few years have been nothing but disaster throughout the darkness. I don’t know what’s happened today.”
“But to be safe, you and that little snake should stay in my belly tonight. Don’t go out.”
The blood-rain and arrows could only cause Lin Yang pain; they couldn’t kill him.
Lin Yang followed the advice and thanked Lin Lin. He couldn’t go to the Prison Tower right now anyway; his killing intent was too thick to suppress in a single moment. He needed time to adjust.
Halfway through the night, there was still no movement in the sky.
The long-lost peace caused all the survivors to rush into sleep. Lin Yang eventually fell asleep in the latter half of the night, curling up on the bed. 00, meanwhile, slept blissfully at the foot of the bed, hugging its tail.
Outside the giant stone, the silt on the surface of the earth suddenly grew restless. Several tentacles emerged, groping their way forward. They entered the Giant Rock with cautious precision, sniffing the scent of the person on the bed. Finding no match, they moved on.
One of the tentacles groped its way into Lin Lin’s belly. Lin Lin was fast asleep and noticed nothing.
The tip of the tentacle stood upright, feeling its way along until it reached Lin Yang’s bedside. 00, having woken up, rolled over and locked eyes with the pitch-black tentacle. A second later, 00 tactfully closed its eyes.
It recognized these tentacles. Back when its Master had raised it, it had seen these things emerge uncontrollably from its Master’s body. However, its Master seemed to loathe their presence, and His expression would turn grim whenever they appeared.
The tentacle had no eyes, but its five senses were fully functional. It sniffed Lin Yang’s scent, and the tip of its tail began to wag.
Inside the Temple bound by chains, Lin’s ice-white eyes snapped open. Found him. Those filthy things were of some use after all.
In the next moment, a phantom appeared in Lin Yang’s room. Lin, dressed in tattered clothes, manifested within the space.
The chains winding around the Temple were inscribed with restrictions that heavily bound him. The one appearing here was not his true body, but merely an avatar.
However, an avatar alone was enough to take the life of a monster.
He wanted Lin Yang dead.
