The Monsters All Covet Him - Chapter 29
Hearing the word “die,” Lin Yang’s breathing became rapid in an instant.
He looked toward 00 in a panic, and 00, understanding his intent, immediately lay on the ground with weak breath. “Lin Yang, save me.”
The black mist dispersed, and the blade in Lin Yang’s hand vanished. He scooped up 00, his heart full of anxiety and guilt. “I’m sorry, it’s my fault. I’ll take you to the temple to find Lin right now.”
The tentacles turned to look at Shan. Lin did not make a sound; feathered arrows shot down. Shan’s eyes nearly split with terror. In the second before its death, a golden light sprang from its palm and landed on Lin Yang.
“I may die, but don’t think you’re staying in this world, Lin Yang! Since your love is as solid as gold, don’t dream of ever seeing each other again for all eternity!”
The tentacles flew to intercept, but the golden light still swallowed Lin Yang. As the glow dispersed, only 00 with its tattered wings remained on the ground; Lin Yang was gone.
Fubai and Zhuo rushed over from the White Tower just in time to witness this scene.
The entangled tentacles became hideous, and countless ice-white sharp swords emerged beneath the suspended prison tower, pointing directly at the ground. That massive silver-white eye was now entirely submerged in an ominous red.
Fubai was terrified; if those swords fell, the living beings on the ground would undoubtedly perish. He steadied his mind and shouted toward the tower in the sky, “Lord Evil God! If you force a breakthrough of the array to send down those swords, the living on the ground will die, but you will also be severely wounded. Please calm yourself—Lin Yang is not dead!”
Lin knelt in the temple, more and more chains binding it and tearing into its flesh. The descent of the swords did not slow down because of Fubai’s words.
Fubai shouted anxiously, “I can bring Lin Yang back! Lin Yang treasures humans! If he returns to find this place has become a giant graveyard, he will be even more pained! Lord Evil God, please believe me!”
The swords halted in mid-air. “Explain in detail.”
Fubai inhaled, wiping cold sweat from his forehead. “The array Shan used before its death was a teleportation array. This type of array has the effect of breaking through time and space, but Shan’s mastery was poor; the array it used only possessed the power to cleave time.”
“Lin Yang is still in this world, but the time-space he occupies is different from ours. Please give me time, Lord Evil God, to determine which time-node Lin Yang is in and bring him back.”
Hearing this, the injured 00 struggled to coil its tail. “I can also traverse time and space; perhaps I can help.”
In the next instant, 00 appeared in the temple. The Evil God’s cold hand gathered around it, and a soft aura enveloped 00. Its half-wing regrew, and its injuries healed. It opened its mouth to say thank you, but as its golden eyes looked up, it froze. Only the Evil God’s face was clean; every other part of its body was mangled beneath the binding of the chains.
The monster that looked like a human showed no sign of pain on its face. Lin split off a clone and said to 00, “Take ‘me’ and look for Lin Yang in the sea of time. I don’t trust Fubai. Once you find Lin Yang, bring him back safely to my side.”
00 nodded obediently.
Lin’s gaze was obscure. After a long while, it said, “Do not fail Lin Yang. He is your mother, after all.”
00’s pupils shook, and its neck shrank. It heard a sense of “gritting teeth” in the latter half of the Evil God’s sentence. It wanted to explain but didn’t know what Lin Yang had actually said to the Evil God. 00 followed the clone into the sea of time, essentially fleeing in a panic.
Lin gazed down at the blood-stained ground from the floating tower. It had more important things to complete before Lin Yang returned.
After the golden light struck, Lin Yang experienced a feeling of weightlessness, very similar to when 00 first brought him to this world. The time-space he was in seemed to have torn. When he regained consciousness, Lin Yang found himself lying in a waist-high grassy field.
Under a cerulean sky, white clouds stretched out. A warm orange half-sun hung in the west; a few waterbirds flew low. It was dusk.
Lin Yang sat up abruptly. Was he no longer in the original world? He looked around; there was no silt-covered ground here. Instead, there were green plants and fresh flowers. In the distance was a vast sea, reflecting a vibrant orange-red under the evening sun. Behind Lin Yang was an exquisite cluster of buildings. As the sun continued to sink, warm-colored lights flickered in the grid-like spaces from afar. Clearly, people lived in those buildings.
But that wasn’t what drew Lin Yang most. In the direction where the sun set, Lin Yang saw the temple. Although he could only see its top, he was certain it was the same temple that had been suspended in the sky. He had not left the world of the evil creature; it was only that the time-space seemed to have shifted.
Lin Yang walked toward the temple. Passing the seaside, he smelled a thick scent of blood and realized the orange-red was not a reflection of sunlight at all. It was blood. A fierce battle had occurred here, but the corpses had already been cleared away.
Lin Yang did not linger. The temple was far from the human buildings; he had to pass through an ancient forest and navigate a mountain-high maze of Giant Stone Monsters before reaching it. Without 00, Lin Yang relied entirely on his own feet. It took him four full days to arrive before the temple.
As he pushed open the heavy temple doors, Lin Yang felt a subtle nervousness. Behind the doors was a sight he hadn’t expected.
At the entrance was a rectangular open-air courtyard, but the ground was not earth; it was clean water. Countless flowers of every variety grew upon this water, competing in beauty. A path paved with heavy stones wound into the inner court.
Lin Yang followed the stone path into the inner court. The space was massive. In the center was a circular pool with a radius of about ten meters. Arranged loosely around the pool was an entire wall of books, a swing woven from flower-vines, and a small transparent tank. The tank strangely contained ordinary creatures: an all-white little snake, a color-changing lizard, and a termite struggling in a crevice. Lin Yang didn’t see the connection between them.
He looked up at the massive circular pool, wondering how to get up there. Suddenly, a magnificent silver-white fish tail flicked out. A youth leaped from the water and landed steadily in the vine swing. As the swing moved, the youth’s fish tail transformed into human legs.
Its silver hair was long enough to trail on the ground. It opened eyes that were also silver-white and, completely unclothed, looked at Lin Yang with curiosity. “You are the first human I have met since I woke up.” It leaned in and sniffed Lin Yang. “You have my scent on you.”
It had the exact same face and body as the Lin in the suspended temple, but Lin Yang felt as if the youth and Lin were two different people. It didn’t have that gloomy, terrifying aura. It looked like a lively and beautiful youth with somewhat strange-colored eyes.
The youth said he was the first human seen “since waking up.” So, was this a hundred years ago, just when the Evil God had been summoned? Lin Yang’s heart beat faster. If he could stop all this before the hundred-year mark, would everything that followed not happen? Neither the humans nor Lin would have to suffer so much.
Lin Yang’s lips curved as he said with a beaming smile, “Because I am your lover. I come from the future, and I appeared here to love you. My name is Lin Yang.”
The youth was puzzled. “What is ‘love’? And what is a ‘lover’?” It was so curious, staring straight at Lin Yang like a puppy with silver-white eyes.
Lin Yang stared at the youth’s clean, upturned face, his mind filled with the image of that blood-weeping red eye beneath the floating tower. His palms felt numb; he didn’t know how Lin was faring.
Lin Yang closed his eyes. The youth’s eyes widened as warm lips covered its own. The glamorous person sat in its lap, flower-branch-like arms hooking around its neck. A warm sensation slowly passed over, interweaving with the cold in a tangle of friction. Gradually, black silk threads crept out from behind the youth, entwining Lin Yang’s ankles. Lin Yang laughed, indulging that plunder.
When they parted, the youth’s cheeks were as red as blood. Lin Yang’s breathing hadn’t even become erratic, but even so, the youth continued to stare straight at him. Shy, yet not timid.
“My name is Lin. You haven’t answered my question yet.”
Lin Yang sat in Lin’s lap, his gaze focused on Lin’s lips. “Do you loathe this feeling?”
The redness on Lin’s cheeks deepened, reaching its neck. “I like it.”
Lin Yang raised an eyebrow. Although it was a hundred years ago, the trait of liking to speak directly (throwing straight balls) had not changed. “A lover is a relationship where you can do this kind of thing, but it’s more than that. If you are in pain, I will also be in pain; if you are happy, I will also be happy.”
Lin, whose face had been ripe-red just now, showed hesitation. “If I am in pain, you will be too?” It recalled the vast amount of shed blood and its body could not help but tremble—it was a desire for slaughter. He took a deep breath, trying to show a relaxed smile. “Perhaps.”
“Oh.” Lin’s voice was muffled. “If I am in pain and you will be too, then being my lover will be very painful for you.”
“Why?” Lin Yang coaxed.
“Because I am the Evil God. An Evil God is destined to have pain wider than the sea.”
“Who told you that you are the Evil God?”
“Before I woke up, while soaking in a long slumber, I just knew. I knew I was called Lin and that I was the Evil God. However,” Lin was troubled, “I don’t know how to be a good Evil God. Since I woke up, I’ve just been here, sleeping and playing every day. It seems there is nothing I need to do. Lin Yang, do you think I can be a good Evil God?”
The vine swing moved back and forth with Lin’s words. Its expression was innocent, like a pure white lamb that had never experienced the world, unaware of how heavy its spoken words were.
Lin Yang looked at Lin’s shadow cast on the ground and said gently, “You will become a very good god. But since we are lovers, do you want to go and see the place where I live?”
Those humans and Silver Jiao had not yet discovered Lin; it would be better to simply take Lin away. As long as they couldn’t find Lin, the conflict would be contained between the humans and Silver Jiao. If the Evil God didn’t participate, casualties would be greatly reduced.
Hearing this, Lin’s eyes lit up. “Is that really possible?”
Lin Yang didn’t waste words; he took Lin’s cold hand and walked toward the temple exit. Reaching the courtyard, Lin Yang’s incredible hearing caught the sound of footsteps. Someone was approaching the temple and not just one person.
