The Mad Beauty and the Sick Young Lady [Transmigration Novel] - Chapter 36
In just a few days, Su Meng, Su Lie, Su Rugang, and the whole family reunited in Phuket.
Su Li’s wish to find a quiet beach to lie on couldn’t continue. Su Rugang and Li Zhenzhen went off to enjoy their time as a couple, while Su Meng and Su Lie dragged Su Li everywhere to play. The three young people walked all over the island together, and they had a pretty enjoyable time.
Su Li got tired very easily, so she often sat on the beach watching the two energetic Alphas (A) go deep sea diving, surfing, or jet-skiing. Su Lie used a professional surfboard, and Su Meng, not to be outdone, followed suit and learned as well.
Being with these two lively characters, Su Li gradually started to feel happier. She tried her best not to think about Jiang Zhuoye and focused her attention on interesting things.
Pathetically, despite her family being so wealthy, Su Li had rarely traveled abroad. This time, it was only after her strong insistence and the doctor’s non-objection that her family brought her along for the trip. In the past, everyone else would go out, and Su Li would stay home alone, though for important holidays, everyone would still stay home to celebrate with her.
So, strictly speaking, this was Su Li’s first trip abroad, and everything felt completely new to her.
Su Meng hadn’t mentioned Jiang Zhuoye to Su Li these past few days, but Su Li brought it up herself. Su Meng smiled and said:
“We chatted a few times and then stopped. She doesn’t seem interested in anyone else, and I wasn’t going to make a fool of myself. But she asked me where you went, so I just casually told her. You don’t mind, do you?”
Su Li said she didn’t mind. Her itinerary was never a secret anyway, and even if Jiang Zhuoye followed her, it wouldn’t change anything.
That night, Su Lie and Su Meng insisted on dragging Su Li to a yacht party.
The boundless sea was not lonely at all. The dazzling lights of the yacht illuminated the night, crowds gathered by the ship’s rail, and the deck was the stage for socializing among the upper class.
Su Li sat alone in a corner by the ship’s rail, holding a glass of specially made juice, staring at the boundless sea. A gentle breeze blew. Her light colored long hair was tied back and flew in the wind. Her fair, almost reflective face and neck, illuminated by the lights and the night, made her look like a fairy with translucent wings.
When people came to strike up a conversation, Su Li responded politely but did not accept their invitations. In the center of the deck was a stage where people were dancing the waltz. Su Li merely watched, not joining, sipping her drink slowly.
Su Meng and Su Lie had each found a partner and were dancing gracefully. Watching them, Su Li felt a strange sense of pride that her brother and sister were the charismatic type of Alphas. Then, thinking of herself, she gave a self-deprecating laugh.
An Omega (O) like her was practically the disgrace of Omegas, unable even to endure her own heat.
Perhaps she should still get her scent gland removed.
While Su Li was thinking about this, she suddenly saw a tall woman approach, holding a glass of champagne, and sit directly on the chair opposite Su Li.
The woman subtly released her pheromones. Su Li could smell the aggressive musk scent, but pheromones of this level were just an unspoken greeting, with no other intent, and would not trigger a reaction in an Omega. Su Li knew this was a popular social technique in upper class society. Since everyone in this class was either an Alpha or an Omega, releasing a little pheromone helped quickly identify the other party’s basic information and decide how to proceed with the conversation.
However, she had no interest in these tactics, didn’t spare the woman another glance, and continued to look at the sea.
“Hello, let’s get acquainted.”
The woman suddenly extended her hand toward Su Li, making a gesture to shake hands.
“We’re both Chinese, aren’t we? My name is Zhu Qiyu. Qi as in qiluo (fine silk), Yu as in yuchujingren (to say something astonishing).”
Su Li paused for a moment, waved her hand, refusing the handshake, and gave a shy smile:
“My name is Su Li. Li as in lychee.”
Zhu Qiyu appeared very outgoing, elegant, mature, and tactful. Being refused a handshake didn’t faze her at all; she simply used that distinctively jointed hand to run it through her long hair.
“I see you’ve been sitting here for a while. Are you alone?”
“No, my brother and sister are over there.”
“That’s lovely. A great atmosphere, traveling with the whole family. What do you do for work?”
“I don’t work. I’m resting due to poor health.”
“What a coincidence, I’m a doctor. Tell me about it.”
Su Li finally looked directly at the other woman. Zhu Qiyu was good looking, indeed the kind of face perfectly suited for a doctor’s attire. Although she was currently wearing a long qipao dress, she still looked very dignified and quite reliable.
Just as Su Li was about to speak, her peripheral vision caught sight of a familiar figure, and she immediately cursed her bad luck mentally.
How was Jiang Zhuoye here too? She was far too unpredictable. Was she perhaps tracking her movements?
Jiang Zhuoye was wearing a mask, looking around as she crossed the dance floor, and seemed not to have spotted Su Li.
Su Li quietly stood up, gathered her things, smiled at Zhu Qiyu, and slipped into the ship’s cabin.
She didn’t want to see Jiang Zhuoye again. To be honest, it wasn’t hatred or anything like that, but rather… she didn’t quite know how to face the whole situation.
She figured she might as well eat, drink, and sleep in the cabin for the night.
Su Li enjoyed the food provided on the ship and slept for a night. When she woke up in the morning, she felt a headache, body aches, and a great discomfort in her stomach.
Su Meng and Su Lie were staying in the cabin next door. Su Li tried calling Su Meng, but the call didn’t go through, so she had to press the call button and wait for a server.
She was curled up on the bed like a shrimp, clutching her stomach. When the server arrived, she was already sweating coldly.
The server was startled and quickly called the ship’s doctor, then summoned Su Meng and Su Lie from the neighboring room.
Coincidentally, the person accompanying the ship’s doctor, wearing a very authoritative looking white coat, was Zhu Qiyu.
The server introduced her:
“This lady is a nephrology expert who happens to be aboard our yacht. Given your medical history is related to kidney issues, we invited her to consult.”
Zhu Qiyu was indeed effective and efficient. She quickly set up an IV for Su Li and exchanged business cards with Su Lie and Su Meng.
“I’ll come check on you again tomorrow.”
Zhu Qiyu winked at Su Li with a smile as she left.
After the IV drip, Su Li felt much better. By evening, she could go to the deck, but she had to wear a cape and a jacket and avoid drinking any more random beverages.
She hadn’t been out for fresh air very long when she heard many people screaming nearby.
“Ah! Isn’t that…”
“She looks even better in person than in the movies, with such striking features…”
“How did she end up here? Who is she walking towards…”
Su Li didn’t even need to turn her head to know it must be Jiang Zhuoye again, probably without her mask this time.
Just as she was about to turn around and head back to her cabin, she heard a low, husky voice from behind her:
“Su Li, wait.”
Su Li quickened her pace to leave, but her wrist was suddenly grabbed. She tried to shake free but couldn’t, so she angrily turned around to face Jiang Zhuoye.
Jiang Zhuoye looked different again from how she had appeared on the beach that day. At this romantic yacht party, she was wearing a T-shirt and jeans. Although still beautiful, there was an unmistakable shadow of melancholy in her eyes and on her brow.
Her cheeks were sunken, her voice was hoarse and unrecognizable, and her eyes held a look of pleading:
“Can you please hear me out for a few minutes?”
Su Li exhaled softly:
“There’s no need. There is nothing left for us to say to each other.”
From Jiang Zhuoye’s beautiful eyes, suddenly rolled down glittering tears.
Someone nearby gasped, and others started taking pictures. The beautiful sight of the Movie Queen shedding tears wasn’t something you could see every day!
Su Li was irritated by the camera flashes hitting her eyes and uncomfortably shook her arm:
“Let go of me!”
Jiang Zhuoye released her, but followed closely behind, moving quickly from the main deck toward the ship’s rail.
A large crowd followed behind them, all holding up their phones to take photos and videos, chattering excitedly:
“Who is that girl? Why is Jiang Zhuoye following her?”
“Are they acquaintances? Could she be a secret girlfriend? She doesn’t look like it, so frail and thin, she can’t be an Alpha, can she?”
Su Li tried to quickly enter the cabin, but Jiang Zhuoye stretched out her arm and blocked the entrance.
Jiang Zhuoye turned around, facing Su Li, and spoke with red eyes:
“I’m sorry, I was wrong before. I know I was wrong now. Can we start over as friends?”
Su Li turned her head away.
She wasn’t unmoved, but what did being moved matter? A lost heart could not be retrieved.
She slowly replied:
“It’s good that you know you were wrong. As for friends, there’s no need to do that anymore. From now on, let’s just pretend we don’t know each other. That’s better for everyone.”
After speaking, she motioned for Jiang Zhuoye to raise her arm and let her pass.
Jiang Zhuoye stubbornly remained completely still, her eyes red, beautiful and moving like rain-soaked peach blossoms. She stared intently into Su Li’s eyes, as if trying to see her innermost, true thoughts.
Jiang Zhuoye’s voice sounded raspy, as if rubbed with sandpaper, and she choked out:
“We used to be so close…”
Su Li closed her eyes:
“I was the foolish one.”
Jiang Zhuoye’s voice was very low:
“No, I am the fool. I’m the one who can’t leave you now. I’m the one who gave my true heart, and I’m the one begging you not to go.”
Su Li was very close and understood every word, but she didn’t understand the meaning behind them.
She looked at Jiang Zhuoye with confusion. The other woman finally lowered her arm, giving way to the cabin entrance.
Su Li walked inside, went straight back to her cabin, and sat by the bed in a daze.
The way Jiang Zhuoye cried was simply too beautiful. Even if Su Li disliked the person, she had to admit that she was truly a born goddess.
But soon, Su Li pushed these thoughts aside.
She opened her computer and began drawing the final chapter of The Daily Life of Miss Patient.
The content of the last chapter was that Miss Yezi left the city with no intention of returning, Miss Patient said a friendly goodbye to Miss Yezi, and returned to her old life.
When she posted it, she solemnly wrote:
“Thank you all. The Daily Life of Miss Patient ends here.”
The comments and shares immediately exploded. Countless people asked what happened, demanding to know why, after a period of no updates, the next update was the ending.
The platform editor also called, asking anxiously why it ended now, warning that ending it this way would be criticized as a terrible, rushed ending, and that subsequent profits and all the pre-arranged advertisements would be impossible to proceed with.
Su Li calmly replied that she would bear all the losses, asking the editor to send her the relevant accounts, and she apologized.
Finally, the editor asked:
“What are you planning to do next? Start a new series or switch to a new account? I can help you with anything.”
Su Li gazed absently at the deep blue sea:
“I probably won’t start a new series or a new account. Thank you for your support during this time; I’m just tired. In the future… if fate allows, we’ll meet again.”
The editor hung up regretfully. Su Li opened her phone contacts and WeChat and deleted and blocked all of Jiang Zhuoye’s contact information.
How could she not feel heartbroken? But heartache couldn’t change the established facts, nor could it retrieve a piece of her life or a true heart. Su Li was too tired to even wonder why Jiang Zhuoye had approached her. She just wanted to live out the rest of her time well and didn’t want any more entanglement with Jiang Zhuoye.
When the cruise ship docked on the morning of the third day, Su Li woke up and, upon opening her door, bumped into Zhu Qiyu, who was standing right outside with a bouquet of champagne and white flowers, just about to knock.
“What a coincidence! I was just about to knock, and you opened the door. What’s that Chinese saying?”
Zhu Qiyu smiled brightly and handed the bouquet of champagne and white flowers to Su Li:
“A perfect understanding between two people. Congratulations on disembarking in good health!”
Su Li accepted the flowers blankly, but suddenly felt a premonition and scanned the long corridor.
On a tall, thin trash can not far away, a bouquet of pink baby’s breath (Gypsophila) had been discarded.
It looked as though the flowers had just been tossed and hadn’t yet been scattered. A hasty flash of a clothing hem disappeared around the corner.
Su Li recognized it as Jiang Zhuoye.
Holding the bouquet, she stared at the corner for a long time, then handed the flowers back to Zhu Qiyu, smiling as she said:
“Thank you, but I can’t accept them.”
Zhu Qiyu froze in place, but Su Li walked toward the baby’s breath on the trash can. She reached out a finger, pulled out a single stem of the pink baby’s breath, returned to her cabin, closed the door, and packed her things.
She tucked the single stem of baby’s breath into the inner layer of her suitcase, closed the case, met up with her brother and sister, and walked down the gangway.
As they disembarked, Su Li looked around but didn’t find Jiang Zhuoye. She wasn’t surprised, and even felt a sense of relief.
This is how it should be…
