- Chapter 3 - You, This Little Dead Soldier, Are So Unreasonable
Wei San had a very long dream. In it, he was entangled with a man whose face he could not clearly see, being coaxed by the other into doing all sorts of lewd things and speaking nonsense.
The level of debauchery was more shameful than that of any courtesan in a pleasure house.
He woke up in a daze. Recalling the scenes from his dream, the tips of his ears turned almost as red as dripping blood.
So, in the dream, I was actually so…
He was too embarrassed to put it into words. He raised his hand to cover his eyes, only then discovering that his skin which was translucently pale from years of never seeing sunlight was covered in the marks of having been thoroughly loved.
His muscles stiffened. The lingering soreness and exhaustion in his body, along with an unavoidable sense of discomfort, finally made him realize, belatedly, that last night had not been a dream at all.
He had let someone take advantage of his vulnerability to devour him completely!
And that shameless scoundrel was still lying boldly by his side.
A murderous aura surged in Wei San’s eyes. Instinctively, he reached for the hidden weapons he usually kept on his body, only to find he was stark naked; his weapons had long since been removed along with his clothing.
Just as he was about to quietly get up and twist the head off the culprit, a large, calloused hand gripped his wrist firmly.
Wei San’s heart sank, and he kicked toward the man’s waist. But Wei Zheng had been prepared; his other large hand gripped Wei San’s waist, and with one stretch of his long leg, he pinned down Wei San’s legs.
Wei San struggled with all his might, landing several punches on Wei Zheng, all of which Wei Zheng managed to barely dodge.
Their skin pressed against each other as they rolled about; with the momentum of the struggle, they tumbled off the bed, wrapped in the quilt.
Wei San was already sore all over, and even through the bedding, the fall was quite painful. This gave Wei Zheng his chance. Firmly gripping Wei San’s wrists, he gave a light tug, pinning his hands behind his back, and pressed a long leg onto his spine.
“So full of energy the moment you wake up? It seems I… I wasn’t diligent enough last night.”
Wei Zheng gasped for breath, almost letting a slip of the tongue reveal his identity, but fortunately, he reacted quickly and corrected himself.
Wei San turned his head and glared at him fiercely, about to curse, but he froze upon seeing the scoundrel’s face.
Wei Liu?!
Wei San was shocked, but he immediately dismissed the suspicion. Wei Liu, who was wooden and straightforward, would never look at him with such a frivolous, lewd expression.
“Who exactly are you?”
Why are you wearing Wei Liu’s human-skin mask?
Wei San had many suspicions. He knew all the dead soldiers, and none were as detestable as this person before him.
Could he be from the Secret Guard camp?
Wei Zheng did not answer Wei San directly but instead curled his lips in a mocking tease: “You, this little dead soldier, are so unreasonable. If I hadn’t helped you last night, you would have been tortured to death by that aphrodisiac long ago. Not only are you ungrateful for me saving your life, but you also want to turn your blades on your savior? Truly wicked.”
While he spoke such shameless, teasing words, his appreciative gaze rested on the beautiful butterfly blades of the young man beneath him.
Dead soldiers lived in the shadows and never saw the sun, leaving their skin pale to the point of transparency. Now, however, it was tinged with faint bruising, densely covered in the marks he had left the night before. If he didn’t need his hands to pin down this unruly, scratching little civet cat, he might not have been able to stop himself from touching them.
“Shameless scoundrel who takes advantage of others! Have no shame!”
Wei San’s muscles tensed in anger. He was skilled at killing, but he was clumsy with his words, and after thinking for a long time, he could only come up with such a weak rebuke.
Wei Zheng let out a muffled laugh. He had expected something harsher, but it turned out to be no more than a cat’s scratch—charmingly adorable.
He leaned down, pressing his entire weight onto Wei San, and stole a kiss from his cheek. “I can be even more shameless. Do you want to try it again?”
Both of them were reminded of the madness of the night before. Wei San was overcome with shame and rage, wishing he could kill Wei Zheng instantly.
Wei Zheng, however, pressed his tongue against his canine teeth, the thought of devouring him completely once more rising up.
The two were pressed so tightly together that any physical change could be felt clearly. Wei San felt as though he had been struck by lightning, overwhelmed by a deep sense of humiliation. He gritted his teeth and said viciously: “You had better hope I never get a chance, otherwise I will grind your bones to dust!”
Wei Zheng’s desire for conquest was piqued. He lifted the dead soldier’s chin, forcing him to tilt his head, obliging him to let himself be bitten and sucked upon his lips.
Being taken advantage of again and again, Wei San’s eyes turned red with fury.
It was clearly a fierce glare, but once blurred by a mist of tears, it looked like he was coquettishly seducing someone in his dissatisfaction.
Wei Zheng felt a shiver run through his body as he looked into those eyes; his desire felt like a bottomless chasm, growing deeper and deeper.
However, the crowing of a cock outside shattered the atmosphere. It was already brightening outside the window; if he didn’t return soon, it would be easy to leave clues.
Wei Zheng smacked his lips with no small amount of regret; he had to spit out the meat that had been delivered to his mouth.
He wrapped the unruly dead soldier back into a cocoon with the quilt, and under the other’s murderous glare, he scooped him up horizontally and placed him back on the bed.
He thought, Since I’ve already acted like a scoundrel, wouldn’t I be at a loss if I didn’t get my money’s worth in one go? So, he kissed the dead soldier’s bright red, chapped lips once more and laughed, “Sweetheart, I can’t keep you company anymore today. I’ll come find you again when I have the time.”
He spoke of coming back, but Wei Zheng didn’t take it to heart. Nor did Wei San take him seriously, because both knew that if they met again, Wei San would surely attack him with his sword.
Wei Zheng departed without a shred of attachment, leaving Wei San to struggle for a moment before freeing himself from the bedding.
He stepped onto the floor barefoot. Because of the struggle with Wei Zheng just moments ago, the soreness and exhaustion were even more intense; his legs felt as soft as cotton. If he hadn’t grabbed the bedpost with quick reflexes, he would have collapsed directly onto the floor.
Wei San detested the scoundrel who had reduced him to this state. He quickly threw on his outer robe to cover his bruised body. When he felt the sticky, wet sensation between his legs as he left, he finally couldn’t help but curse: “Son of a bitch! Don’t let me catch you!”
Wei San went to the back mountain and scrubbed himself from head to toe several times, until his skin burned with stinging heat, before slinking back to his quarters with his washbasin.
He had just closed the door when he was met with a pair of teasing eyes.
“Third Brother, you didn’t return all night. Where were you out gallivanting?”
Wei Jiu sat with one leg crossed over the other, smiling with calm composure.
Dead soldiers lived two to a room. As his roommate, Wei Jiu knew perfectly well whether Wei San had returned last night.
Wei San felt guilty, but he acted as if nothing were wrong on the surface. He walked past Wei Jiu calmly, leaving behind one sentence: “Children should stay out of grown-up business.”
Wei Jiu, who had turned sixteen two months ago and had not yet reached adulthood, was being correctly called a child.
Wei Jiu, who hated being treated like a child, huffed in frustration. Seeing that Wei San was ignoring him and heading into his room, he muttered “boring” before heading out.
Hearing Wei Jiu’s retreating footsteps, Wei San slowly let out a sigh of relief.
He placed the washbasin on its stand, threw himself onto the bed, and curled up inside his quilt, rolling to the very inside.
Having been unable to rest properly for two days, no matter how many troublesome things were happening, he had to recover his spirits first.
Once I recover my health, I will dig three feet into the ground to find that secret guard and hack him into pieces!
Wei San swore through gritted teeth and fell asleep.
Wei Zheng jumped through the window into his room just before the maids rose. Wei Liu, who hadn’t dared to sleep all night, immediately sprang up with a start.
Wei Liu knelt before Wei Zheng with a thwack. “Master, you’re finally back.”
Having lain on his master’s bed all night, Wei Liu felt as if he had lost several years of his life. Now that Wei Zheng had finally returned, he instantly came back to life.
Wei Zheng waved his hand, signaling him to rise. As he stripped off his night-traveling suit, he asked, “No one suspected anything last night, right?”
Wei Liu shook his head. “This subordinate pretended to be asleep early on, and the female official and the maids didn’t suspect a thing before retiring.”
Wei Zheng nodded with satisfaction, tore off his human-skin mask, and returned the night-suit to Wei Liu. “Alright, you’ve worked hard last night. You go and get some rest first.”
“Yes.”
He nimbly changed into his night-suit and climbed out the window.
The moment Wei Liu left, the sound of maids approaching could be heard from afar.
Not long after, the female official knocked on the door: “Your Highness, it is time to wake up.”
“Come in.”
Wei Zheng stood by the bed, smoothing his robes, pretending he had just woken up. The maids filed in, serving him water for his mouth, washing his hands, and helping him change.
The leading female official stood to one side, smiling lightly. “Your Highness is waking up earlier today than usual.”
Her tone sounded like she was teasing, but it was more of a probe.
“I slept early last night, so I couldn’t sleep any longer this morning.”
Wei Zheng bluffed his way through it. To increase his credibility, he even went on the offensive.
He said, “Aunt Mei, you were half a quarter of an hour late today. I woke up and counted for a long time before you arrived. Is it because I’m too lenient with you usually that you’ve started getting lazy?”
“It is this servant’s fault for making Your Highness wait.” The female official smiled and admitted her mistake, though it was unclear whether she believed him or not.
After finishing breakfast, Wei Zheng prepared to head to the study to read, as he did every day.
Although he appeared foolish to the outside world, everyone knew that this fool loved books. However, he didn’t love the classics; he loved those absurd folk tales.
Because of this hobby, the Emperor frequently scolded him for being a “golden jade exterior with a rotten interior,” having no interest in serious learning.
Wei Zheng led a grandiose group of maids toward the study, only to be intercepted halfway.
“Your Highness, wait!”
The estate steward rushed over from the entrance, panting for breath. As soon as he saw Wei Zheng, he shouted to stop him.
Wei Zheng stopped at the sound, tilted his head, and asked with confusion, “Uncle Li, why are you in such a hurry? Did something happen?”
Li Dan, the steward, had originally been a eunuch in the service of Consort Xu. After her death, he had remained with Wei Zheng, so Wei Zheng affectionately called him Uncle Li.
Li Dan reached him, took a few breaths, and then slowly explained: “The Grand Tutor is at the gate requesting to see you, Your Highness. What do you think…”
The Grand Tutor?
Wei Zheng pursed his lips. A man of the Crown Prince, what is he doing visiting a fool like me? Surely he isn’t here to check my homework?
The other party clearly had ill intentions, but Wei Zheng could not refuse to see him.
“The Grand Tutor has come to see me?” He looked pleasantly surprised, then changed his expression, scolding: “The Grand Tutor is here, and you didn’t invite him inside to serve him? You locked him outside the gate; won’t the Grand Tutor think I don’t welcome him?”
Li Dan hurriedly agreed. “This servant will go invite him in immediately.”
Wei Zheng impatiently pushed him aside, leaving behind one sentence: “Enough, enough, I will go welcome him myself.”
Li Dan and the female official stared at him as he walked away quickly before regaining their senses and hurrying to catch up.
