The Love-Hate and Grudges Between Me and the Mermaid - Chapter 27
Chapter 27
“Mm, so what’s wrong then?” Ian blinked, looking puzzled, but asked very earnestly.
“Are you afraid, Bu Yan?”
“But you haven’t done anything. You did the right thing; don’t be afraid.”
Bu Yan froze, her non-stop torrent of accusations cutting off because of this sentence.
True. She hadn’t actually done anything; why should she be afraid!
She should be happy that she was the first person to know the world was entering the apocalypse.
When the time came, everyone else would panic because they couldn’t handle the sudden changes, but she wouldn’t. She would stay calm, take Ian into the basement, and they would weather the catastrophe together in safety.
“I’m not afraid,” Bu Yan successfully convinced herself. Her eyes flickered, avoiding Ian’s probing gaze that felt like it wanted to devour her. She pressed her lips together and continued, “I’m just curious.”
“Curious about what?”
“Why is the military here?”
“I don’t know either.” Ian raised her hand, stroking Bu Yan’s hair as it fluttered in the breeze. Smelling the faint scent of sea salt in the air, the corners of her mouth curved slightly.
“Perhaps Sister could try not constantly mentioning that she isn’t from this world. Or perhaps, you could trust the Alien God a little more.”
Ian thought for a moment and continued, “And of course, just loving me a little more would be fine.”
“The Empire hates fickle people the most. Forget that mermaid, okay?”
Ian felt a surge of anger just thinking about the scene she saw in the illusion that day. Bu Yan had actually kissed that mermaid!
Kissed her!
And Bu Yan was the one who initiated it!
But Yan had never even initiated a kiss with her!
But Yan tilted her head. After a long time, she slowly let out an “Oh.”
Her tone was lukewarm, without ups or downs. She seemed very reluctant, her expression unchanging, looking like a dead fish.
Damn it, she wasn’t like this when facing that mermaid!
Anger rushed to Ian’s heart. She controlled Bu Yan, making her shout “Okay, I definitely will!” while forcing a jubilant expression onto her face before she felt slightly better.
“That’s more like it.” Ian clapped her hands. She ignored the frozen Bu Yan and the group outside—Lin Ling, Kara, and Yoshitani Kaede who were preparing their speech before knocking. She went into the kitchen on her own.
Lighting the stove, pouring oil, stir-frying, and plating—it was all done in one smooth motion.
After bringing several dishes to the dining table, Ian cleaned the kitchen thoroughly before stopping her busy work.
She sat on the sofa, not feeling tired at all. She looked at Bu Yan, who was still maintaining her original pose at the door, and let out a cold snort.
This was Bu Yan’s punishment.
She didn’t want to let her off just like that. Want forgiveness? Stand there a while longer.
Ian flicked her fingers, keeping the food on the table at a constant temperature, and brought a few bags of snacks to the sofa. While playing a mobile game, she peeked at Bu Yan, her consciousness diving into Bu Yan’s mind to search her memories.
Unfortunately, she found nothing. It was as if her memories were repeatedly sealed away from childhood, teenage years, youth… there was nothing.
All she could see and hear were things that happened after she came to Bu Yan’s side.
Even the tiny bits she could find before were gone this time.
Why did Bu Yan keep repeating that sentence?
When would her thoughts become normal? When would her soul become whole?
Human affairs were too complex; Ian didn’t understand. Part of her wanted Bu Yan to get better, but another part didn’t.
Because she felt…
That once Bu Yan became a complete person, she would leave her.
She would leave decisively, running far away, never to see her again.
She was conflicted.
As for the three people outside the door, Ian rested her chin on her hand and pondered. They didn’t seem very useful.
Should she just kill them? After all, Bu Yan seemed very afraid of them.
But it didn’t feel right. She could sense that many mysterious people had gathered near the house lately. Every single one was wearing heavy protective gear and carrying firearms and ammunition.
They were hiding nearby in the bushes, in the treetops, on the eaves, under the trash… staring at her every single second.
If she killed these three, would it just draw more people like them?
Ian was watching and waiting to make a decision.
Finally, she made it.
Ian moved Bu Yan from the doorway to a chair at the dining table, scooped rice for her, poured a glass of milk, and set her in a dining pose. In the moist sea breeze, she pressed against her soft lips. “Wait for me a little longer,”
She said against Bu Yan’s warm forehead, “I’ll be back in a moment to eat with you.”
After the kiss ended, Ian licked the corner of her mouth, thinking how sweet it was. Lip glaze was a good thing; she’d make Bu Yan wear it every day from now on.
Just as she had prepared everything and opened the door to deal with those three outside, a warm, soft voice suddenly came from behind her.
“Ian?”
