The Lost Omega Heiress is Pregnant with My Child - Chapter 43
Goodbye, Shen Tingxue.
After wrapping up some work, Ji Tianheng made time to have a meal with Ning Youyu.
The location was the rooftop sky garden of the Ji Corporation building. The restaurant wasn’t open to the public and was reserved exclusively for Ji Tianheng to entertain her most distinguished guests.
Inside the greenhouse, the surroundings had already been arranged, and the entire area was occupied only by the two of them.
At this moment, Ji Tianheng seemed less sharp than usual, appearing more approachable as she personally pulled out a chair for Ning Youyu.
This gesture made Ning Youyu feel both honored and flustered. She quickly said, “President Ji, you’re too kind.”
Ning Youyu thought to herself, Is this mission really that important.
An intelligent system controlled the meal-delivery robots, bringing one exquisite dish after another to the table.
Ji Tianheng gestured with her eyes toward one of the dishes. “Youyu, try this.”
“It’s a newly cultivated variety of bluefin tuna. You work hard every day, so make sure to get enough nutrients.”
Ning Youyu picked up her silverware, carefully speared a small piece, and brought it to her mouth. The delicate, rich flavor instantly burst on her tongue, so delicious that she couldn’t help but narrow her eyes in delight.
She smiled and praised sincerely, “This is really good.”
As she smiled, the dimple on her left cheek became visible.
Seeing Ning Youyu’s childlike satisfaction, Ji Tianheng relaxed a little.
She rarely dined with subordinates like this, but Ning Youyu was an exception.
Not only was this Omega exceptionally capable in her work, but her innate warmth and charm also made her incredibly well-liked. Even Ji Tianheng couldn’t help but feel a bit more protective of her.
Ji Tianheng said, “You can come here to eat anytime in the future.”
Ning Youyu responded with a slightly nervous “Mm.”
Ji Tianheng took a sip of red wine and suddenly remembered that she had never had a proper meal with Shi Anzhi. She wondered if Shi Anzhi had ever tasted such rare delicacies before.
At this thought, her expression darkened slightly.
After Ning Youyu had sampled several dishes, Ji Tianheng finally spoke. “You’ve probably already reviewed the basic information for this mission.”
“Yes, President Ji.”
Ning Youyu set down her utensils, her gaze becoming focused. “I understand. The main task is to protect Miss Shi and assist her in stabilizing the situation in District R.”
Ji Tianheng acknowledged with a hum.
She set down her wine glass and clasped her hands. “Since Ding Sha’s death, various forces have been growing restless. I want Shi Anzhi to return because I expect her to take control of District R as soon as possible.”
Take control? Ning Youyu’s heart tightened. She hadn’t expected President Ji to have such high hopes for Shi Anzhi. Since when had President Ji placed such importance on District R?
Ning Youyu cautiously said, “President Ji, please guide me further.”
“The various forces in District R are not to be underestimated. You must help Shi Anzhi filter intelligence so she can make fully informed decisions every time.”
“At the same time, you must also keep a close watch on her every move who she interacts with, any unusual occurrences all of it must be reported to me in detail.”
Ji Tianheng’s gaze was profound. Her daughter was like an unpolished blade, full of potential but untamed and wild.
Therefore, she needed to know what Shi Anzhi was thinking, to ensure that every step she took was on the right path.
Hearing this, Ning Youyu’s heart skipped a beat.
It wasn’t just about protection. It seemed President Ji wanted to monitor Shi Anzhi.
Ning Youyu could sense a complex mix of emotions in Ji Tianheng’s words.
Mr. Ji’s regard for Shi Anzhi had far surpassed a superior’s appreciation for a subordinate there must be some secret she was unaware of.
But she was clever enough not to press further.
She nodded. “I understand, Mr. Ji. I will report to you regularly.”
“Good.”
Ji Tianheng was pleased with Ning Yuyou’s perceptiveness. After a moment’s thought, he continued, “One thing will test you greatly: you need to make Shi Anzhi completely lower her guard around you.”
Ning Yuyou froze, pondering the implied meaning of his words, uncertain if this went beyond the scope of a conventional task.
Seeing her bewildered expression, Ji Tianheng knew she was likely overthinking it.
“Don’t misunderstand. I would never ask my subordinates to compromise their emotions. When I say ‘lower her guard,’ I don’t mean for you to seduce her. To be precise, you must make her trust you completely.”
Having her confusion laid bare so bluntly, Ning Yuyou bit her lip in slight embarrassment.
“Shi Anzhi has had a difficult past. She doesn’t trust anyone easily. You need to become her friend, make her accustomed to your presence, and reliant on your help.”
Ji Tianheng decided to be even clearer. “Make her inseparable from the Ji family.”
Ning Yuyou’s heart raced.
“Mr. Ji, I…”
She hesitated. “I’m afraid I won’t do well.”
“You will.”
Ji Tianheng’s tone was resolute. “You’re the only one in the entire company who can do this.”
Shi Anzhi might appear aloof, but deep down, she was soft-hearted. With a beautiful, lively person constantly by her side, helping her through difficulties, it would be hard not to trust over time.
Moreover, this Omega was handpicked by him someone he knew inside out, loyal and dependable.
Ji Tianheng looked at Ning Yuyou’s face and encouraged her, “This mission could last a few months, or longer, there’s no fixed timeline. It will continue until I call you back.”
“Once you’re in District R, you represent the Ji family. Everything you do reflects my will. Act with confidence, and I will bear any consequences.”
The weight of his words left Ning Yuyou almost breathless.
She licked her lower lip. “Mr. Ji, I will do my best.”
Ji Tianheng smiled at her. “Alright, let’s eat.”
After that, Ji Tianheng shared his views on District R and the latest movements of the Rust Gang.
The following afternoon, Shi Anzhi met Ning Yuyou in the hospital room.
Ji Tianheng made a brief introduction. “Anzhi, this is Ning Yuyou. I’ve assigned her to assist you. You can turn to her for anything you need in District R.”
Ning Yuyou waved at Shi Anzhi with a natural smile. “Miss Shi, I look forward to working with you.”
Shi Anzhi smiled faintly and responded politely, “Hello.”
Observing the chemistry between them during their first meeting, Ji Tianheng added fuel to the fire. “Anzhi, you mentioned this morning that you had some shopping to do. What exactly do you need? Let me see if I can help.”
Teng Ying had kept adding to Shi Anzhi’s shopping list. It started with the most essential items but soon expanded to include many high-end daily necessities rare in District R, along with crush-ball cigarettes, small toys, and some personal items.
Shi Anzhi was overwhelmed; she didn’t even know where to find some of these things.
Teng Ying, rarely acting coquettish with her, pleaded, “Help me out! This slum dweller who’s never seen the good life wants a bit of everything.”
When asked, Shi Anzhi hesitated for a moment before taking out her old terminal and pulling up the list Teng Ying had sent her.
“I need these items,” she said, handing it to Ji Tianheng.
Ji Tianheng glanced at it.
At the top of the list were various supplies urgently needed in District R but strictly regulated: anesthetics, neural blockers, portable cellular repair devices, and over thirty sets of different types of basic cybernetics.
Further down were more personal items, spanning various categories all available in shopping malls. After reading through it, Ji Tianheng understood.
She handed the terminal back. “Most of these items are in the warehouse. I’ll have the logistics department prepare them and arrange direct air transport to the designated location in District R. The rest can be bought in one go at the mall.”
As she spoke, she placed a credit card with no spending limit into Shi Anzhi’s hand. “Since you’re heading to District R, you should also get some things for yourselves. Ning Yuyou, take Anzhi to Angel City.”
Before Shi Anzhi could respond, Ning Yuyou immediately chimed in, “Great, great! Boss Ji, can I use this card too?”
“Of course.”
Ning Yuyou’s eyes sparkled as she grinned at Shi Anzhi. “Thanks to you!”
Shi Anzhi’s eyelids twitched slightly. “Not really.”
With Ning Yuyou’s enthusiasm, she found it hard to refuse Ji Tianheng’s offer.
Seeing this, Ji Tianheng excused herself, citing a meeting, and left to give them space.
Shi Anzhi and Ning Yuyou took a flying vehicle to Angel City.
Angel City was enormous, the most luxurious shopping center in the Special Zone, composed of dozens of crystal-clear buildings interconnected by rainbow-like sky bridges. It housed all the high-end brands from across the empire.
Unfamiliar with the place, Shi Anzhi followed Ning Yuyou onto a gravity escalator leading into the mall. The surrounding walls were massive holographic screens displaying interstellar travel advertisements.
A pleasant fragrance drifted through the air. As Shi Anzhi took it all in, she felt an inexplicable sense of melancholy.
The Special Zone was vast, with countless fun places to explore and shop.
Yet, she and Shen Tingxue had never had the chance to visit even once or enjoy a proper meal outside.
Along the way, Ning Yuyou enthusiastically pointed out everything to Shi Anzhi, keeping her spirits from sinking too low.
“Anzhi, look over there that’s a simulated ski slope. We should go sometime!”
“And there, the newly opened Mermaid’s Tear Restaurant. Their head chef was brought in from the destroyed Blue Pole Star their seafood is absolutely amazing!”
“Wow, the little animals in that pet shop are all made with photon technology. They never get sick and can stay with their owners for a lifetime.”
Ning Yuyou chattered away, but her voice was gentle and not at all overwhelming. Moreover, her expressions held no trace of insincerity.
Shi Anzhi didn’t mind. She glanced a few more times at the intriguing pet shop.
Still, she thought Bo Bo was better.
They first headed to the jewelry section, where gemstones floated on magnetic display platforms, glowing like flames mesmerizing and exorbitantly priced.
After browsing, Shi Anzhi picked out a large one for Teng Ying.
Teng Ying probably liked big ones.
As she swiped Ji Tianheng’s card, Shi Anzhi sighed softly. By now, she was essentially working for the Ji family, only Ji Tianheng’s approach was more subtle.
As they exited the daily necessities section, the fashion show playing on the central screen of the mall was abruptly interrupted by a breaking news report.
“It is reported that Shen Corporation’s stock price has continued to decline recently. Affected by the attack on its No. 7 Laboratory by unknown forces, investor confidence has been severely shaken. Shen Hong, Chairman of Shen Corporation, strongly condemned this terrorist attack and stated that they would spare no effort to pursue the matter to the end.”
“This morning, Shen Corporation held an emergency press conference, announcing a new round of strategic cooperation with the Governor’s Office and the launch of a groundbreaking gene optimization product next month.”
On the screen, the ruins of the Shen family’s laboratory after the explosion appeared, followed by live footage from the press conference.
Shen Tingxue, dressed in a simple white suit, stood at the center of the podium. She looked noticeably thinner than a few days ago, her face somewhat pale, but her eyes remained resolute.
She spoke confidently, showcasing the strength of the Shen family to the world as if none of the recent turmoil had ever happened.
Shi Anzhi stood before the screen, momentarily forgetting where she was, her heart aching with a dull pain.
“Anzhi?”
Ning Yuyou followed her gaze and, of course, saw Shen Tingxue on the screen.
Without asking further, Ning Yuyou gently tugged at Shi Anzhi’s sleeve, diverting her attention. “Oh, don’t bother with this boring news. Didn’t you still need to buy cigarettes?”
Shi Anzhi snapped back to reality and forced a faint smile, nodding in response.
She forced herself to look away and followed Ning Yuyou forward.
To escape the suffocating images, she subconsciously quickened her pace but inadvertently walked into a long corridor leading to the maternity and baby products section.
At the far end was a high-end maternity and baby store, decorated like a fairytale castle.
On the video billboard at the entrance, a happy family of three was playing on the grass. The Alpha held the Omega in her arms, their baby giggling with a clear, melodious laugh.
Shi Anzhi stared blankly at the scene as if under a spell.
Uncontrollably, her mind conjured images of Shen Tingxue’s pale face and the genuine shyness she had felt when Shen Tingxue had taken her hand and guided it to her abdomen.
They could have had a child.
And a cradle as beautiful as the moon, a room adorned with stars.
Shi Anzhi’s eyes gradually grew moist.
She had thought she and Shen Tingxue would be like the family in the advertisement that she would forever protect her lover and their baby. She had even started thinking of names for their child.
As if guided by some unseen force, she walked into the store.
Noticing Shi Anzhi’s expression, Ning Yuyou said nothing more, silently offering her companionship with thoughtful consideration.
Could this be considered the special situation Manager Ji mentioned.
Shi Anzhi wandered among the dazzling array of maternity and baby products, breathing in the faint scent of milk in the air. She simply wanted to look.
When she reached the toddler toy section, her gaze finally settled on a particular shelf.
There lay a soft-textured lamb rattle. Its appearance suggested a warm, gentle touch, like a baby’s skin. The design was simple yet elegant, with the lamb’s eyes crafted from two small sapphires, making it look utterly adorable.
Without thinking, Shi Anzhi picked it up and gave it a gentle shake, producing a soft, tinkling sound.
She smiled.
In the R District farm, she and Nian Xue picked oranges together. During breaks, lying on the grass, Nian Xue would point at the cargo drones in the sky and say to her, “Shi Anzhi, look, they look like chubby little sheep.”
The cargo was so heavy that the drones flew dangerously low, constantly at risk of crashing.
But Nian Xue would say, “The little sheep are flying.”
Back then, Nian Xue still had that silly demeanor, sometimes calling her by her full name with earnest seriousness.
Shi Anzhi swallowed her bitterness, picked up the toy, and walked to the checkout counter.
While paying, she suddenly remembered Ning Yuyou’s presence and awkwardly explained, “buying it for a friend’s child.”
Ning Yuyou hummed in acknowledgment, not exposing anything, and said, “How adorable.”
After everything was settled, Shi Anzhi and Ning Yuyou rode in Ji Tianheng’s private vehicle back to R District.
The interior of the aircraft was spacious, with leather seats and large one-way viewing windows. On the table were rare fruits and expensive drinks whose names she didn’t even know.
But Shi Anzhi had no mood to appreciate any of it. As the familiar grayish sky drew closer, she knew she was on her way home.
Yet something was lost forever.
She could never return to that small fruit shop, and there would no longer be an Omega named Nian Xue waiting for her.
On the day she brought Nian Xue home, the Omega had told her, “We’re going home.”
There was no “we” anymore, and no home either.
