Miyako Florence awoke.
The refreshing morning sunlight, birds singing their hearts out.
And beside her…
“…Good morning, Fuuka-chan.”
“Mmm… munya, I’m still sleepy, you know.”
Beside her slept Fuuka Hamilton, the former villainess Miyako loved.
Once rivals in what was called the Bride War, competing for a ticket to upper-class nobility—Miyako and Fuuka were now unique, irreplaceable partners.
The challenge to make Fuuka say “I’m happy” within fourteen days.
Miyako had won that.
And so, she broke the “Good Girl Curse” that had bound Fuuka, and now the two of them were continuing their carefree journey together.
Since embarking on their journey wandering through various countries, Fuuka had become quite the late sleeper.
Even though when they first started living together, she’d panicked over not being able to wake up early.
Miyako fondly recalled those days.
“Fwa… good morning, Miyako.”
“Morning, Fuuka-chan♡”
She carefully brushed Fuuka’s hair, who had woken up just in time for the inn’s checkout. The glossy brunette locks shone even brighter under Miyako’s hands.
While tying it up, she mischievously tickled Fuuka’s earlobe, making her squirm and giggle. “Hey, Miyako… ah, fufu.”
After doing Fuuka’s hair and changing out of her pajamas, they picked up their respective travel bags and stood.
“Nyafuu~ How dare you keep me waiting, you insolent human~”
A long-haired Persian cat-like creature—Umi—rubbed against Miyako’s legs.
Though currently in a fluffy form, Umi was actually the great water spirit Undine.
Calming raging rivers or making water spring forth in barren lands was but a thought for her.
Currently, she had formed a contract with Miyako as thanks for releasing her seal.
“Sorry, sorry, Umi. Let’s go!”
“Today’s request is at a nearby field, correct?”
Requests.
Using Umi’s authority, the ability to freely manipulate water, Miyako and Fuuka were helping with water management efforts across the country. Additionally, they provided healing using Fuuka’s white magic and herbal knowledge, and helped people through Miyako’s initiative and negotiation skills… Rumors of the “Pair of Saintesses (and a cat)” were spreading day by day.
“Alright, let’s bring lunch too!”
“Miyako, this isn’t a picnic.”
“If we finish early, we can eat together. Okay?”
“~~ Fine, have it your way.”
Miyako firmly pulled along Fuuka, who had turned away with a huff, her face bright red.
She’d recently noticed that Fuuka was weak against Miyako’s smile.
Miyako was delighted thinking how cute Fuuka was when overwhelmed by a smile.
“Umi, please!”
“Nyafu~”
At Miyako’s voice, Umi’s body trembled.
A cool blue light overflowed from the blue jewel on Umi’s forehead—
“W-wow! Water in the irrigation channel!”
“The well water has returned!”
“Now we can farm again.”
The request from the village, where well water had dried up due to recent earthquakes, was now complete. Umi let out a “Nyafuu~” as she yawned.
“Is this good, nyafu? Saintess of Water Management?”
“S-stop that, Umi!”
Miyako was embarrassed.
Lately, she’d been called by the outrageous nickname “Saintess of Water Management…”
She didn’t know who started it, but apparently servants from noble households who saw her manipulate the Enort River’s muddy currents to save Fuuka during that promise were spreading rumors.
“Please, accept this as thanks…”
An elderly woman, the village chief, handed Miyako a heavy leather bag.
“This is too much!?”
“No, but our village was on the verge of ruin.”
“B-but”
The bag contained far more than the amount Miyako had initially quoted.
As she hesitated, wondering what to do—
“Isn’t it fine?”
“Fuuka-chan?”
Fuuka spoke up from behind.
Once Fuuka began speaking, her demeanor became that of a proper upper-class noble’s daughter, causing the villagers to shrink back slightly.
“We’ll accept it, Village Chief.”
“Ah…”
Fuuka smoothly took the leather bag from the chief’s hands.
Then, turning her gaze to the withered field—
“By the way, what you’re growing in that field are medicinal herbs, correct?”
“Y-yes, but…”
“Then, we’ll purchase the entire harvest from that field.”
“Eh!?”
“We’ll set the price. Let’s see, about this much, I suppose.”
Jingle, jingle.
From the freshly received leather bag, Fuuka took out handfuls of coins, placing them into the stunned elder’s hands.
“This should be more than sufficient, no?”
“B-but… due to the water shortage, they’re not very good quality herbs.”
“Can you not hear me saying I want them?”
Snap! Fuuka cut off the elder’s words.
The elder, slowly processing the meaning of her words, struggled to hold back tears and bowed his head.
“! Th-thank you so much”
The watching villagers erupted with a “Whoa!”
Pretending not to notice, Fuuka turned her back with a huff, but the corners of her mouth curled into a slight smile—which Miyako decided to pretend she didn’t see either.
“Fufu. You’re so kind, Fuuka-chan♪”
“You’re totally smitten, nyafu, Miyako.”
“Well, yeah!”
Miyako ran after Fuuka.
Now, let’s have a picnic!
They decided to eat their lunch on a hill near the village.
In the distance, they could see all the villagers working together to harvest the medicinal herbs Fuuka had agreed to buy.
“Uu, this feels great!”
Miyako instinctively stretched.
The wind gently rustled her tea-brown hair.
The scones they brought for lunch were crumbly, fluffy, and delicious even when cold.
The tea in the thermos was cool, but since Fuuka had brewed it lightly and refreshingly specifically so it would taste good cold, the slight bitterness didn’t bother them.
“Ehehe, Fuuka-chan?”
“What is it, Miyako?”
“You’ve got scone on your cheek.”
Chuu—she pecked with her lips, picking off the scone crumb, making Fuuka jump with a “Hyah!”
“Wh-what, Miyako!?”
“What’s the matter, Fuuka-chan♪”
“How could you… S-someone might see us……”
“It’s fine if they do.”
“Mmm”
This time, she gently kissed her lips.
Fuuka’s habit of tightly closing her eyes in these moments never changed.
“Hey, Fuuka-chan?”
“Wh-what is it…?”
Having dropped her noble-like speech, Fuuka’s face was bright red.
Her downturned eyebrows were adorable.
“Stay with me forever.”
“Why so sudden? Well… that’s the plan, you know.”
Her trailing, mumbling voice was so cute that Miyako couldn’t help but squeeze Fuuka tightly.
