The Investment Mogul Calls Himself my Husband - Chapter 8
Chapter 8: Longing
“I can only say I was completely stunned at the time.” Wang Xia sat down beside Su Yi, a gossipy smile on her face. “You have no idea—I had just stepped out of my house when Zhuang Qingyuan, that 1.9-meter-tall giant, with that impeccably handsome overbearing CEO face, came right toward me. I thought I hadn’t woken up yet and was dreaming.”
“Zhuang Qingyuan is 1.9 meters tall?” Su Yi hadn’t expected Zhuang Qingyuan to be that tall in reality.
He tried to imagine Zhuang Qingyuan’s cold face walking toward Wang Xia without expression, standing before her like a wall; he found it amusing and curled his lips into a smile.
“That’s right, he’s 1.9 meters, and Qian Xu is 1.82.” Wang Xia said with a laugh. “The height difference between you two now is quite harmonious—perfect for hugging, and perfect for kissing. Want to try?”
Su Yi thought back to the one time he saw Zhuang Qingyuan in his previous life—that man had a frozen face as if everyone owed him tens of billions. He tried hard to shake the image out of his head. Forget it, I don’t want to kiss a block of ice.
When Wang Xia didn’t get an answer from Su Yi, she shifted the conversation: “But I still feel… did something go on between you two before, only you forgot it!”
“Perhaps.” Su Yi leaned against the back of the sofa, his posture lazy and nonchalant. “I also feel it’s not impossible. Investigating my car accident, personally delivering a script… even I feel there must have been something between us before. Maybe I really did have amnesia, spent a beautiful night with someone, but turned around and forgot it.”
Wang Xia laughed and played along with Su Yi’s words: “Then… I’ll have to look into it. I can’t let some intimate photo of you two leak out one day and catch me off guard, not knowing how to handle the PR.”
After speaking, the two looked at each other and both laughed.
Su Yi shook his head helplessly, opened the script beside him, and asked: “What role did he prepare to give?”
Wang Xia froze, stumped by the question: “Throughout the whole thing, he only said one sentence, which was: ‘Pleasant cooperation!’ Before I could even react, the person had already driven away.”
“Just one sentence? Is the overbearing CEO that cold?” Su Yi asked. “If he didn’t specify a role, then how do we look at this?”
“An overbearing CEO personally delivering a script wouldn’t give a supporting role, surely.” Wang Xia said. “How about you look at it first to see how the script is. If you really like it, I’ll go find him to talk further.”
“The phone number left on the cover should be his private number. That’s likely what he meant.”
Su Yi looked at the string of numbers, then suddenly looked up: “We over-analyzed it just now. The script wasn’t for me. He delivered the script to Yi-Xia Studio—it’s for Qian Xu.”
Wang Xia stunned for a moment, then it clicked: “That’s right. The studio only has one artist right now: Qian Xu.”
“After all that, it was just unrequited overthinking!”
Su Yi and Wang Xia thought of their wild imaginations just now and collapsed into laughter together.
“Either way, it’s given to you. Why not see how the script is first?” Wang Xia said. “I’ll also go ask around to see what exactly is going on with Zhuang Qingyuan’s side.”
…
“Uncle.” Xiao Le ran downstairs and saw Wang Xia, greeting her, “Hello, Sister.”
“Hello, Xiao Le.” Wang Xia handed over the toy she bought for Xiao Le, then stood up to greet Qian Qian who was coming downstairs. “Hello, Sister Qian Qian. I am Wang Xia.”
Qian Qian knew Wang Xia was not only a manager but also the boss of Yi-Xia Studio: “Hello, President Wang. Thank you for being willing to sign Qian Xu.”
Wang Xia took Qian Qian’s hand and said warmly: “Sister Qian Qian, don’t be so polite. Qian Xu is very talented in acting; it’s just that he wasn’t discovered before. Fortunately, I met him, so of course, I had to hurry and sign him.”
“Qian Xu will work hard and won’t let President Wang down.” Facing the warm Wang Xia, Qian Qian relaxed a bit.
Wang Xia hooked her arm through Qian Qian’s like a best friend: “Sister Qian Qian, you really don’t have to be formal with me. I’ll be Qian Xu’s manager from now on; you can just call me Wang Xia directly. That way, we’ll both be comfortable.”
Qian Qian: “Alright. Wang Xia, you must stay for lunch. I’ll go get things ready.”
“Mhm, let’s get ready together. I happened to bring ingredients; we can have hot pot together for lunch. I personally love eating hot pot on normal days.” Wang Xia said.
“Fine, then we’ll have hot pot.”
After Qian Qian finished speaking, she went to the kitchen. Seeing that the new house had very complete cookware, she took out the spices she brought to fry a hot pot base.
“Uncle, the rooms here are so big and bright. The room I woke up in has a very large desk, and the chair is very comfortable. Can I do my homework there in the future?” When Xiao Le spoke, stars sparkled in his eyes.
Su Yi picked up the script to set it aside, intending to chat with Xiao Le, but a package fell out from the script.
Su Yi picked it up and found it was wound-healing patches.
Although there was no label, Su Yi recognized them. These were special patches made by the Zhuang family that could quickly promote wound healing without leaving scars.
Because the materials used were rare and precious, these patches were not in general circulation; only a small number of people could get them.
He had used them before—Huo Zhili had given them to him.
For this to be in the script, Zhuang Qingyuan might have put it in without noticing, but it was exactly what Su Yi needed.
Su Yi tucked away the wound patches and pulled Xiao Le to sit on his lap: “You can. This will be our home from now on, and that room is Xiao Le’s exclusive room. Xiao Le can do homework wherever he likes in the future.”
“That’s so awesome!” Xiao Le happily hugged Su Yi. “Uncle, this home is so great; everything about it is great.”
Su Yi held Xiao Le tightly and rubbed his head: “Uncle promises that in the future, Xiao Le will get even more and better things.”
But Xiao Le shook his head: “No need, Uncle. It’s already great; Xiao Le likes it very much.”
His sudden burst of enthusiasm being rejected by the little guy left Su Yi stunned.
With a bit of heartache, he kissed the top of Xiao Le’s head. He remembered that after his mother left, he would hide in his room alone, listening to the sounds of Su Yuyan’s family laughing. At that time, he so badly wanted his father to go over and hug him.
Just one hug would have been enough; he was very easily satisfied back then too!
…
“Sister Wang Xia, I’ve brought Ji Heng over.”
“You’re here, Xiao Xue. Go and get to know your Brother Qian Xu first.” Wang Xia walked over and put her arm around Ji Heng. Seeing the little puppy in Ji Heng’s arms, she asked, “Is this meant for Xiao Le?”
“Mhm.” Ji Heng walked to Xiao Le’s side and put the puppy in Xiao Le’s arms. “For you.”
Xiao Le looked at the snowy-white puppy and said to Ji Heng: “Thank you. I like it very much.”
Wang Xia looked at the two children and smiled. Wang Xia: “Qian Xu, this is your future assistant, Xiao Xue.”
“Hello, Brother Qian Xu.” Xiao Xue greeted Su Yi properly.
“Mhm.” Su Yi looked at his former little assistant and nodded.
Seeing that nodding motion, Xiao Xue froze. Every time she called him ‘Brother Su Yi,’ her Brother Su Yi would give that same faint reaction.
In that instant, she felt as if she saw the shadow of her Brother Su Yi in Qian Xu. Her eyes instantly reddened; she missed her Brother Su Yi.
She originally couldn’t understand why Sister Wang Xia suddenly signed a newcomer, but at this moment, she seemed to understand a little!
Seeing the little assistant looking at him with red eyes, Su Yi said with a smile: “Don’t cry. I’m not mean.”
“No, no!” Xiao Xue covered her mouth and forced back the tears. “I just feel that you are very kind and familiar.”
Wang Xia laughed and said: “This girl has gone silly. Qian Xu is only 19; how can he be ‘familiar’?”
Afraid Xiao Xue would lose her composure again, Wang Xia changed the subject: “Xiao Le, how about going to and from school with Ji Heng from now on?”
“Okay.” Xiao Le nodded obediently while holding the puppy.
Ji Heng said to Xiao Le: “You can call me Big Brother from now on.”
“Aren’t we the same age?” Xiao Le asked.
“My birthday is in the first lunar month; I’m definitely older than you.” Ji Heng replied.
“Oh, I’m in the eighth month. You really are older than me, Big Brother.” Xiao Le obediently called out.
Ji Heng: “Mhm. In school from now on, Big Brother will cover for you!”
“Thank you, Big Brother.” Everything was strange at the new school; having someone to cover for him would indeed be much better. Xiao Le thanked him again, very savvy.
Su Yi looked at Ji Heng, who usually had a sour face, acting quite like a big brother today. It seemed the two little guys would get along well.
…
Qian Qian: “Everyone is here. Shall we start the meal now?”
“Yes, let’s eat.” Wang Xia followed Qian Qian into the kitchen again.
Qian Qian had prepared two pot bases: one tomato beef pot and one spicy spare rib pot. Because it was the first time eating together and she didn’t know everyone’s tastes, she prepared both spicy and non-spicy options.
At the dining table, Su Yi spoke to Qian Qian: “Sis, things are very noisy on the internet these days. Don’t go to the snack street for the time being, to avoid encountering people causing trouble.”
Wang Xia: “Right, I forgot to mention that. Someone leaked Qian Xu’s information online, so Sister Qian Qian, it’s best if you don’t go out for the next few days either. When Xiao Le finishes school, he’ll take a car back directly with Ji Heng; it’s very safe.”
“Okay, I’ll be careful. Then I won’t set up the stall for these few days.” Qian Qian knew that some fans could exhibit extreme and crazy behavior.
…
Midu Private Kitchen
Huo Yang: “What’s going on, President Zhuang? You’ve flipped your phone 360 times this morning. Whose call is it that has you longing for it so much?”
“Assistant Huo, watch your attitude when speaking to the boss.” Zhuang Qingyuan stopped flipping and stared directly at the phone.
“Yes, yes, Boss. I reflect, I am guilty!” Huo Yang intentionally made a humble, low-profile expression to flatter Zhuang Qingyuan, then asked curiously, “You didn’t go directly to find him last night, did you? And you left your number, waiting for him to call you?”
Zhuang Qingyuan: “I gave the script to Wang Xia.”
“Shouldn’t that be the job of a lowly assistant like me? How can President Zhuang snatch the assistant’s work to do himself?”
Huo Yang teased with a fake angry tone. “I say, you didn’t have the guts to go directly in front of the person, so you went to find the manager instead.”
“When you delivered it, what did you say?”
Zhuang Qingyuan: “I didn’t say anything. Su Yi will definitely like this script; what is there to say!”
“What?” Huo Yang looked at Zhuang Qingyuan with a look as if he were looking at an idiot. “Yi-Xia only has one artist right now, Qian Xu. You, an overbearing CEO, personally deliver a script to Qian Xu—don’t you think Su Yi might think you’re interested in Qian Xu!”
Zhuang Qingyuan was dumbfounded, frozen for several seconds: “But he is Su Yi!”
Huo Yang: “Who knows that you know!”
“I’ll go explain it clearly—it’s for Su Yi.” Zhuang Qingyuan couldn’t sit still.
“Forget it, forget it!” Huo Yang held Zhuang Qingyuan back. “Where are you going to explain, and besides, how would you say it? Don’t get kicked out for being treated like a lunatic!”
Zhuang Qingyuan grew anxious; he had been inconsiderate!
“It’s fine. If he takes an interest in that script, he’ll give a response.” Huo Yang glanced at the time; it was already one in the afternoon.
“He might not take an interest in that script. The plot still has some loopholes; it’s indeed not perfect enough. I should have polished it more before putting it in his hands.” Zhuang Qingyuan was now feeling very anxious internally.
“That script is fine. As long as Su Yi himself acts in it, he’s guaranteed to win an award.”
Ring ring ring…
Zhuang Qingyuan’s phone finally rang, making Huo Yang jump.
“Did you set an alarm on your phone? Why is it this tone? It’s too damn refreshing—isn’t this sound specifically used to startle people awake from sleep?” Huo Yang rubbed his ears that had been stung by the sound.
Zhuang Qingyuan had indeed set an alarm; he was afraid that if he took a nap at noon, he might miss the call.
