The Infatuated Cannon Fodder Has Completely Moved On - Chapter 8.2
It turned out she was afraid Jin Yuzhen would make things difficult for Nie Feiyin.
How interesting: did she look that fierce?
“Lu Wenqi said her acting is very good. Why is her family planning to have her retire?”
“A-Yin’s acting was just a sudden whim. I reckon she has had enough of the experience.” Yun Man marveled: “To be able to keep a hobby as a career for five years is not bad.”
Jin Yuzhen nodded in agreement.
There was only a two-year age difference between her and Nie Feiyin, yet she was nowhere near as energetic as the other girl.
Yun Man added, “Regarding that painting, Feng Hui has also been asking about it for a long time. Should I show her the appraisal report?”
Jin Yuzhen raised an eyebrow and smiled. “If she wants to buy it, let her.”
Even though she would be buying a fake, she would be suffering a loss.
To suffer a loss is a blessing.
Yun Man looked at her suspiciously for a long time.
They used to be on good terms; why was she so strange today?
Also, there had been no news regarding the previous mention of collaborating with Feng Hui.
Yun Man roughly guessed that the two had had a falling out and was secretly delighted.
She had been annoyed with Feng Hui for a long time.
Back upstairs, Jin Yuzhen sent a message to Lu Wenqi.
A minute later, Lu Wenqi called.
“You want Nie Feiyin’s number?”
“Is that not allowed?” Jin Yuzhen did not understand her making such a big deal out of it.
Lu Wenqi was currently in the middle of auditions. She looked up and saw Nie Feiyin touching up her makeup in the distance. Worriedly, she asked, “It is not that it is not allowed, but can I just ask why you are looking for her?”
Jin Yuzhen was speechless. “Can I eat her or something? She dropped something last night, and I cannot exactly go and block her doorway to return it.”
“That is true,” Lu Wenqi was surprised: “What a coincidence. She dropped something, and you picked it up.”
She felt like something was not right, but she could not figure it out for the moment.
Lu Wenqi sent the number over and instructed, “This girl is timid; do not speak too harshly to her. And also.”
Before she could finish, she was ruthlessly interrupted by Jin Yuzhen: “You are being as noisy as a gorilla today.”
Lu Wenqi looked at the hung-up phone, not yet having reacted.
At noon, when the auditions ended, she called Nie Feiyin to the motorhome for lunch and asked, “Has Zhenzhen contacted you?”
Nie Feiyin immediately looked up, her face full of hope. “Not yet.”
Lu Wenqi did not understand why she was making that kind of expression. “She asked me for your number this morning, saying you dropped something last night.”
Nie Feiyin nodded repeatedly. “Yes, my hair tie fell in Miss Jin’s car.”
Lu Wenqi was astonished and shouted in a gravelly voice: “In her car?”
Nie Feiyin pushed the mixed sauce in front of her and smiled gently. “Yes, she drove me home last night.”
The short narrative sounded like a science fiction story to Lu Wenqi’s ears. “You said she drove you home? Jin Yuzhen drove you home?”
Nie Feiyin said, “Yes.”
Lu Wenqi felt bewildered.
This direction was too bizarre.
Could it be that after Jin Yuzhen started hating Cen Shu, she wanted to use someone else’s strength to fight back and was going to promote Nie Feiyin instead?
That was not Second Miss Jin’s style.
She tried the sauce Nie Feiyin had mixed; it was very fragrant.
At this moment, Lu Wenqi was even more confused. Nie Feiyin and Cen Shu were practically from two different worlds; there was absolutely no reason for them to become rivals.
Seeing that she was not speaking, Nie Feiyin asked, “Is there a problem?”
Lu Wenqi was stumped by her question. “Not really a problem. She got close to you quite fast.”
Jin Yuzhen cherished that outdated car of hers like a treasure and did not easily take passengers.
Lu Wenqi looked at her: “A-Yin, I think the two of you get along quite well. Spend more time together; maybe you can become friends.”
Nie Feiyin slowly curved her lips. She picked up a soup ladle to help her serve soup and slightly lowered her eyes. “Sure.”
Lu Wenqi held her face and looked at her, feeling extremely satisfied in her heart. Such a healing girl would surely be able to make Jin Yuzhen abandon evil for good.
In the afternoon, Jin Yuzhen received a message from Yun Man saying that the painting had been bought by Feng Hui.
Six hundred thousand was not a very large amount.
However, fakes are a taboo in the collectibles circle. If Feng Hui were to make the painting public, it would 100% be discovered by others, and she would not be able to stay in the circle anymore.
Ye Yun asked cautiously, “Boss, what if Miss Feng comes here to make a scene.”
Jin Yuzhen said, “Make a scene here? Was I the one who sold the painting to her?”
Ye Yun: ” ”
The logic was sound, but Feng Hui was so thick-skinned. Even if Jin Yuzhen were completely unaware of the whole matter, she would still come knocking on the door to urge Jin Yuzhen to help her clean up the mess, especially since Jin Yuzhen had even written an appraisal report for that painting.
Ye Yun was very worried.
People who others consider wicked are actually often the ones who value relationships the most.
As it turned out, her worries were justified.
Feng Hui indeed visited near the end of the workday.
She was aggressive.
Her stance looked as if she were going to tear down Jin Yuzhen’s shop.
Jin Yuzhen did not invite her upstairs and talked to her by the counter instead.
Feng Hui stared at her coldly. “I have checked around: you have seen this painting.”
“So what?” Jin Yuzhen called Ye Yun over and told her to film a video.
Ye Yun did as she was told, found a good angle, and started filming.
Jin Yuzhen said, “This is a rare imitation. It is just that the marks from the aging process are too even, which actually makes it look fake. And the pigments: one look and you can tell they are modern. If the mineral pigments from the Qing Dynasty are used to paint white, they would show lead reversal, which this piece completely lacks.”
Feng Hui gritted her teeth. “You knew it was fake, and you still let me buy it?”
Jin Yuzhen took off her glasses and signaled Ye Yun to stop filming. “I let you buy it?”
Feng Hui was silenced.
Jin Yuzhen said, “I will not charge you for the appraisal this time; just use the video we just took to settle the debt. Ye Yun, next time a guest brings a painting, show it to them so everyone does not get fooled by such clumsy trickery.”
Feng Hui’s face flushed red, and her confidence vanished instantly. However, she still wanted to rely on their previous friendship to criticize her. “I was originally going to use this painting to hold an appraisal banquet. Zhenzhen, you really should have told me in advance.”
Jin Yuzhen said, “If I had told you in advance, how could I have watched the good show? Just consider it a sacrifice for my sake.”
Hearing this, Feng Hui almost flipped the table. “What do you mean?”
“If you cannot understand paintings, that is one thing, but can you not even understand human speech anymore?” Jin Yuzhen put her glasses away and stepped out from behind the counter.
Feng Hui was furious, but she did not dare to speak out. She suppressed her frustration and packed up the fake painting, preparing to go and settle accounts with the owner.
Ye Yun symbolically saw her off, still unable to believe this was real.
By the time she snapped out of it, Jin Yuzhen had put on her coat and was going downstairs. “I have something to do, so I am leaving first. You should head home early.”
Ye Yun replied movedly, “Okay.”
She thought Jin Yuzhen was going to her appointment with Jin Zhuhuai, but that was not the case.
The inner voice she had heard this morning made it impossible for Jin Yuzhen to look Jin Zhuhuai in the eye anymore. For a short time, Jin Yuzhen did not want to see her.
She was with Cen Shu last night, which meant she was in Taozhou last night.
Since she was in Taozhou, why did she not say a word?
And why was she with Cen Shu?
Jin Yuzhen did not want to guess at all.
She had thought only Feng Hui and Cui Man around her harbored ill intentions; it seemed Zhuhuai might not be upright either.
She thought back to her grandmother’s words this morning.
Once the antique and collectibles line was established, the jadeite brand that the Jin family started with would likely be incorporated into it. By handing it over to her, her grandmother was handing the Jin Corporation over to her as well.
It was she who was too lazy and too dull.
Zhuhuai must have seen through her grandmother’s plans.
But she did not want to participate in this power play.
She had just sent a message to Jin Zhuhuai to cancel their dinner date. Jin Zhuhuai was very understanding and did not ask anything, only saying they would meet another time.
Jin Yuzhen turned off her phone and leaned back in the seat to rest for a while.
When she arrived at the restaurant Lu Wenqi had mentioned, she wrapped her coat tightly and got out of the car. As soon as she entered the restaurant, she saw three acquaintances sitting by the stained-glass window on the second floor.
Lu Wenqi turned her head and saw her, waving her hand jubilantly.
She walked slowly upstairs, her palm brushing against her bag.
Nie Feiyin’s hair tie was still inside.
Regarding flowers, Jin Yuzhen did not know much about them. She only remembered that back in Yangon, the locals called flowers “dust of passion,” so she naturally believed that “passion’s dust misleads people” and did not like flowers much.
Behind the house where she stayed in Yangon, there was a large grove of jackfruit trees.
She stepped onto the last stair and saw Nie Feiyin inside the dining table.
Flowers surrounded her, and her face was even more clean and beautiful than the petals and leaves. Her gaze was bright, as if she were looking forward to something. With the person complementing the flowers, the flowers were no longer so eyesore.
Jin Yuzhen walked over and sat in the same row as Lu Wenqi, facing Nie Feiyin.
Lu Wenqi sighed: “I really did not think the four of us would have a day when we would be eating at the same table.”
Ning Sui raised her hand and said, “Let us get this straight first: I am not paying. I am just here for a free meal.”
Lu Wenqi said, “You really have the nerve to say that.”
Ning Sui looked at Jin Yuzhen aggrievedly: “Zhenzhen, you bear witness for me, I really have no money.”
Jin Yuzhen went along with her: “She really does not.”
Lu Wenqi sneered: “You do not, but your mother has plenty of money. Can you not just ask her for some?”
She had never been able to understand people like this: being a second-generation rich kid but not acting like one.
But looking around, her three dining companions were all this type of person.
Ning Sui spread her hands: “Taking my mother’s money comes with a price.”
Ning Fang had always wanted her to join the Jin Corporation. She could not refuse, so she went to the administration department to interview for a position, but for some reason, Ms. Ning Fang seemed even unhappier.
Lu Wenqi had no interest in listening to her minor issues; her entire attention was on Jin Yuzhen and Nie Feiyin. Taking advantage of the moment Nie Feiyin went to the restroom, she asked, “Zhenzhen, did you drive A-Yin home last night?”
Jin Yuzhen did not understand what there was to be surprised about. “Yes.”
She glanced at Nie Feiyin’s seat; there seemed to be a bag pressed under her clothes.
Lu Wenqi shook her head: “You have changed.”
Jin Yuzhen was curious: “How have I changed?”
“You just want to use her. She does not get along very well with Cen Shu, so you are intentionally promoting her to suppress Cen Shu.”
“What kind of crooked logic is that? Is there even a need for that?”
She had contributed the most to Cen Shu’s current success. First of all, she had been paying the largest portion of the public relations fees for the past few years.
Now that the contract with the PR firm had been terminated and she was no longer helping Cen Shu invest in projects, it probably would not be long before this person showed her true colors.
Lu Wenqi felt relieved. “I was afraid you were being stubborn. A-Yin is a good person; I think the two of you could become friends.”
Jin Yuzhen said with a half-smile, “You are already calling her ‘A-Yin’ every other sentence; should it not be that you two can become friends?”
Lu Wenqi just kept sighing. “Anyway, that is what I think. Otherwise, just wait and see. Ning Sui, what do you think?”
Ning Sui was studying the menu. Hearing this, she suddenly looked up. “Do I even have a right to speak?”
Jin Yuzhen said, “Just order your food.”
Ning Sui had helped her check the surveillance last night and knew about the stalking, and she was still thinking about telling her now. “Zhenzhen, those two stalkers from last night were on the trending searches today. It is a huge deal; they have completely collapsed.”
It was too fast.
Jin Yuzhen had already looked at it this afternoon: collapsing, debts, and retiring from the industry; the process was very compact.
Ning Sui said, “It is also quite good. This is the day they have been the most popular; it is a bargain for them.”
Lu Wenqi was in the dark. “What stalking?”
Ning Sui whispered, “Those two people were stalking A-Yin last night, so Zhenzhen drove A-Yin home.”
Lu Wenqi’s eyes widened. “Such a thing could even happen at your family’s celebration banquet?”
Ning Sui consoled her, “The eldest uncle is just getting old and senile. Do not shout; Zhenzhen has already handled this matter.”
Lu Wenqi went through the whole matter in her head and said to Jin Yuzhen, “I am really despicable to have actually doubted you.”
