- The Ice-Cold Beauty Senior Sister Keeps Falling for Her Own Theories
- Chapter 28 - It Has Nothing to Do with Her
Through the crack in the window, the marble courtyard below was crowded with people blocking the gate. Dressed in the tight-fitting black uniforms of the Discipline Hall, they arrived with an aggressive air.
Leading them was none other than Tan Feng, the Second Elder of Bixia Sect, whom Gongsun Muhan knew all too well.
At that moment, he was confronting Chang Yuru and the others who had come to block their way. Standing silently to the side, his face was pale and gloomy, with a dark, sickly hue still visible between his eyebrows and under his eyes, clearly, he had not yet recovered from his illness.
“Chang Yuru, who gave you the nerve to block us, the Discipline Hall? Step aside now!”
His lackey spoke first.
“Hah!”
A black shadow flashed, and Chang Yuru’s black soft whip wrapped tightly around the lackey, hurling him straight into a nearby stone pillar before he crashed heavily to the ground.
“And who gave you the nerve to spout nonsense and show disrespect in front of an elder?”
Chang Yuru retracted the whip and struck it against the ground beside her with a sharp crack, leaving a deep mark on the floor.
Seeing this, the rabble of the Discipline Hall immediately stopped their clamoring and retreated behind Tan Feng, their previously arrogant demeanor vanishing in an instant.
Indeed, Chang Yuru was not just a disciple of the sect leader and the overseer of the outer sect, she was also the only honorary executive elder of Bixia Sect. Though her title was honorary, it was no mere formality, as it granted her the authority to lead the outer sect disciples.
Only then did Tan Feng step forward. He displayed the Discipline Hall token with a hint of contempt and said, “Junior Niece Chang, was that necessary? They were merely acting impulsively. The Discipline Hall is here to apprehend a criminal, and you have no right to interfere. Step aside.”
Having said that, he paid no further attention to Chang Yuru and barged inward, knowing she couldn’t stop him.
As the head of the Discipline Hall, he was responsible for enforcing the sect’s rules and was not bound by the restrictions of the outer sect. As for her title of executive elder, it was merely a nominal honor bestowed by the sect leader in recognition of her abilities.
But he had miscalculated.
Chang Yuru raised her hand to block him, leaning slightly closer as she half-threatened, “Yesterday, in the presence of all the immortal sects and the sect leader, she wielded the Bixin Sword. Under the sect leader’s orders, I have placed her under strict surveillance. I advise you, Second Uncle, not to bring trouble upon yourself.”
“Hahaha!”
Tan Feng narrowed his eyes and scrutinized Chang Yuru’s gloomy expression, thinking to himself that she had some nerve. However, the Bixin Sword was not something she could ever hope to possess.
He let out a loud laugh. “It seems you are unaware, Junior Niece Chang. I already went to see the sect leader early this morning, and he has handed this person over to my custody.”
With that, he shoved the obstructing Chang Yuru aside and strode toward the main building.
Chang Yuru watched their retreating figures, her grip on the whip handle tightening until her knuckles cracked.
She truly couldn’t protect her.
She sheathed her whip and quickly followed them.
Bang!
The door shattered into two halves.
The crowd that had just been at the courtyard gate now squeezed into the narrow outer hall.
“Someone, take Gongsun Muhan away!”
“Wait!”
Feng Jie immediately jumped out, shielding Gongsun Muhan behind her.
“Why are you arresting Senior Sister? She hasn’t done anything wrong! Besides, she was the one who saved everyone yesterday.”
The hall guards parted to create a narrow path, and Tan Feng stepped through. Seeing that it was Feng Jie, the very person the sect leader had repeatedly emphasized caution toward that morning, he suppressed his impatience and spoke expressionlessly, “The Discipline Hall is carrying out official duties. Step aside, Xiao Jie.”
“Uncle-Master?”
Noticing his seemingly reasonable tone, Feng Jie eased her defensive stance.
“I understand you’re performing your duties, but I cannot stand by and watch Eldest Senior Sister be taken away without a justifiable reason. I request that you provide a proper explanation.”
Feng Jie’s gaze was resolute, and she deliberately emphasized the word “proper.”
To be honest, she felt that everyone seemed to covet her senior sister’s sword.
Just as Chang Yuru reached the entrance, she overheard Feng Jie’s words. Her eyes darkened with disdain. Feng Jie was truly skilled at putting on an act, always using such tactics to feign concern. Did she not realize that causing trouble for Tan Feng at this moment was equivalent to causing trouble for Gongsun Muhan? After all, Tan Feng held the sect leader’s decree, who could possibly override it? Not even she could.
“Junior Sister, it’s best if you say no more. Uncle-Master is carrying out his duties and surely has his own considerations. You are being too reckless.”
When Feng Jie saw Senior Sister Chang emerge, her eyes initially lit up, only to dim when she realized Chang was siding with those taking Eldest Senior Sister away.
Reckless?
But she had to protect Gongsun Muhan at all costs, even if it meant being reckless.
“I have my own considerations as well.”
Feng Jie met Chang Yuru’s eyes and replied with utmost seriousness.
Meanwhile, Gongsun Muhan stood quietly by the window, observing the members of the Discipline Hall with an air of detachment, as if she were not the one at the center of the turmoil.
A closer look, however, would reveal, as Chang Yuru had noticed, that Gongsun Muhan’s gaze would fix intently on the person in front of her whenever she spoke, studying her with profound focus.
Gongsun Muhan had been watching all along: watching her junior sister defend her, observing how she would argue on her behalf, and gauging just how deeply she was cherished… The notion that her junior sister loved her still felt abrupt, almost dreamlike.
Sure enough, she saw Feng Jie address Tan Feng again, this time with unwavering determination.
“Without a proper reason, anyone who tries to take Eldest Senior Sister away is my enemy. Unless I am dead, it will not happen!”
The implication was clear to everyone present: Junior Sister was willing to lay down her life to shield Gongsun Muhan.
Among the disciples were those who knew of Feng Jie’s past animosity toward Gongsun Muhan. They were astonished, why had their junior sister suddenly changed so drastically, now wholeheartedly protecting someone she had once despised?
Could she be possessed by some spirit? Or had she lost her mind…
But these thoughts remained unspoken. Everyone knew that Junior Sister Feng Jie was not someone to be trifled with in the Bixia Sect.
“Xiao Jie, do you realize the person you’re defending is Gongsun Muhan, the very one you used to despise the most?”
Tan Feng, recalling how the sect leader had mistakenly credited him with rescuing Feng Jie and rewarded him for it, forcibly suppressed his irritation and continued in a seemingly gentle tone:
“Has this criminal deceived or threatened you? Speak up, and our Bixia Sect will not let Gongsun Muhan get away with it.”
Instantly, curious glances from the crowd converged on Feng Jie and the others.
“No, I am fully aware. I am Feng Jie, and the person behind me is my Eldest Senior Sister.”
“As for me changing my nature, that’s completely unfounded. It’s just that I was young and ignorant back then and misunderstood the senior sister. Now, I’ve already reconciled with her.”
Chang Yuru sneered and stepped forward, saying, “There’s no need for you to explain. First, tell us how you ended up here at the outer peak. If I remember correctly, the inner sect has a curfew, right? You’ve already violated the sect rules. You should worry about protecting yourself first.”
Feng Jie was just about to speak when Gongsun Muhan suddenly pulled her back and stood beside her.
She looked at Chang Yuru and replied clearly, word by word, “Little junior sister was forcibly brought here by me. It has nothing to do with her.”
Feng Jie hadn’t expected Gongsun Muhan to step in and defend her. She quickly stepped forward, waving her hands, and said, “No, that’s not-”
But Chang Yuru didn’t even glance at her. Instead, she shouted at Gongsun Muhan, her voice tinged with desperation.
“Then what about the time she recklessly rang the sect’s bell and drum? Could you have forced her hand to do that? And when her Han Shui Sword went missing, did you help her lose it too? Does none of it have anything to do with her?”
After listening to her, Gongsun Muhan parted her lips indifferently and said, “Yes, it has nothing to do with her.”
Chang Yuru was furious. “Gongsun Muhan!”
She truly couldn’t understand, why did everyone protect Feng Jie? What did Feng Jie have to deserve it? She was nothing but a useless, pretty face.
Her fists clenched so tightly they nearly bled, her eyes red with anger. She shot Feng Jie a deep, resentful glare, then turned and left.
As she passed by Tan Feng, Chang Yuru cupped her hands and bowed, saying, “Second Elder, I trust you will enforce the rules impartially.”
Her words were gritted out through clenched teeth, and she did not look back.
Seeing her figure recede into the distance, Gongsun Muhan turned her gaze to Tan Feng and said coldly, “Aren’t you here to arrest me? Then why waste time here?”
“Guards, take this criminal away.”
As soon as Tan Feng spoke, two people stepped forward with a pair of magical shackles, intending to fasten them on Gongsun Muhan.
Witnessing this, Feng Jie snapped out of her shock at the villainous senior sister taking the blame for her. Seeing one end of the shackle already locked around Gongsun Muhan’s snow-white wrist, she wasted no time and snatched the other half, snapping it shut with lightning speed.
Now, she and the senior sister each wore one, a perfect match.
“Chang Yuru was right earlier. I take responsibility for my own actions. Take me away as well. I’ve also violated the sect’s rules.”
After saying this, she turned her head and playfully winked at Gongsun Muhan.
Tan Feng’s face darkened with rage, but after a long moment of stewing, he still didn’t lash out.
He flicked his sleeve sharply and said, “Then take them both away.”
Elder Brother Sect Leader, don’t blame him, Feng Jie brought this upon herself.
Besides, he had already disliked Feng Jie back at the base of Lixin Cliff.
Gongsun Muhan, receiving Feng Jie’s playful wink, stiffened for a moment, a flicker of uncertainty flashing in her eyes.
But in the next instant, she gently took Feng Jie’s shackled hand. With her left hand, she cast a spell, infusing the shackle’s wristband with spiritual energy.
When she released her hand, Feng Jie felt the shackle, which had tightened to fit her wrist, loosen significantly, as if it were barely there. Even the red marks it had left earlier vanished completely.
“Wow, senior sister, you’re amazing!”
Feng Jie leaned close to Gongsun Muhan’s ear and whispered.
Gongsun Muhan’s earlobes flushed slightly, and she shifted to put some distance between them.
“It’s nothing.”
The next moment, Feng Jie grabbed her hand, her gaze fixed intently on Gongsun Muhan’s wrist. “Senior sister, loosen yours too!”
Gongsun Muhan glanced down at her wrist, where the blue veins were clearly visible from the tight restraints, and the red marks looked as if they were bleeding. She remained silent.
If Feng Jie hadn’t reminded her, she would have forgotten that the shackles’ constricting force was fixed.
So, she couldn’t loosen her side.
“Hurry up,” Feng Jie urged.
Gongsun Muhan responded softly, “Alright.”
With a light sweep of her left hand over the shackle on her wrist, Feng Jie watched as the red marks on her senior sister’s wrist vanished.
Feng Jie smiled in satisfaction. “Senior Sister, don’t just think about others. Taking care of yourself should come first.”
Worried she might not take it seriously, she emphasized again, “Next time something like this happens, help yourself before helping others.”
“Alright.”
Only then did Feng Jie feel reassured and released her grip on Gongsun Muhan’s wrist.
The moment Gongsun Muhan’s hand dropped, her sleeve fell over it, completely covering the shackle on her wrist.
They walked all the way to the teleportation point of the outer peak, and in the next moment, they appeared in the main hall of the Discipline Hall.
Tan Feng stood with his back to them, his gloomy voice echoing through the empty hall. “Take them to the confinement chamber.”
Confinement chamber?
The hall guard escorting them glanced at Feng Jie, his eyes widening in surprise. He seemed uncertain. “Hall Master, but-”
Tan Feng turned impatiently and cut him off. “Do you have an objection?”
The guard immediately lowered his head, bowing nervously. “This subordinate will do so at once.”
