The Host Has Fallen for the Second Female Lead Again - Chapter 81
“What if someone sees us?” Xi Ruan fell silent for a few seconds.
“So what if someone sees us? We’re not doing anything shady.” Ji Mingxiao sighed faintly. “Do you think being seen with me is embarrassing?”
Xi Ruan: ???
Ji Mingxiao’s voice was full of accusation and grievance.
“You’re being dramatic,” Xi Ruan said, annoyed. Her voice paused as she picked at her bag. “So what time should we meet tomorrow?”
Ji Mingxiao smiled. “Ten in the morning. Let’s meet at the subway station entrance. We’ll grab a bite to eat first and then go shopping in the afternoon.”
“Okay,” Xi Ruan said, patting her leg. “I feel like I’ve pretty much dealt with her, so why is the mission still ongoing?”
“What can you do when some people have no shame?” Ji Mingxiao didn’t seem to have strong feelings about it. “Besides, it’s only been a few days. Are you already itching to go back?”
Xi Ruan was silent for a few seconds. “It’s not that I want to go back. It’s just that people stare at me everywhere I go, and it’s uncomfortable.”
“Isn’t it normal for a beautiful girl to get attention on the street?”
Xi Ruan was speechless again.
“My skin isn’t as thick as yours yet,” Xi Ruan said, glancing at the subway. It was about to arrive at the station.
Ji Mingxiao laughed. “Oh, really?”
Xi Ruan narrowed her eyes, just about to speak, when someone approached her.
“Miss, can I add you on WeChat?”
Ji Mingxiao heard it on the other end. “Is someone talking to you?”
“Yeah,” Xi Ruan said, looking at the person in front of her. She shook her head. “I’m sorry, I don’t have WeChat.”
Someone nearby was looking over at them.
The person asking for WeChat was clearly a bit embarrassed but kept trying. “It’s just adding WeChat, so we can get to know each other.”
“Just turn him down flat. Tell him you have a girlfriend,” Ji Mingxiao suggested from the other end. After she said it, she clenched her own fist.
Xi Ruan: ???
“Sorry, I have a girlfriend. If I add you, my girlfriend will get jealous,” Xi Ruan said, giving the person a polite smile.
Ji Mingxiao’s heart skipped a beat. Even though she knew Xi Ruan was just making an excuse, the smile on her face couldn’t help but grow a little wider.
“You like women?”
“Is there a problem with that?” Xi Ruan glanced at the person standing in front of her, wondering why he still hadn’t left after she had already rejected him.
This world had a high tolerance for homosexuality. While they still couldn’t marry, people were rarely looked at with strange eyes anymore.
“No problem, it’s just a bit of a shame,” the guy said, a little stunned. He probably realized Xi Ruan misunderstood something and quickly waved his hands.
Xi Ruan’s tense nerves relaxed a little.
“I wish you and your girlfriend a long and happy life together.”
Before Xi Ruan could speak, she heard Ji Mingxiao say from the other end, “Tell him thank you for me.”
Xi Ruan’s face flushed as she glanced at the guy. “Thank you.”
The guy didn’t say anything more and quietly walked away.
“You’re so obedient,” Ji Mingxiao laughed.
Xi Ruan pursed her lips, knowing Ji Mingxiao was teasing her. “You’re so annoying. I have to go, I’m almost at my stop.”
“Okay.”
Ji Mingxiao hung up the phone and turned her head to look at Lawyer Chu, who had been staring at her.
“A new girlfriend?”
“Haven’t won her over yet,” Ji Mingxiao said, leaning against the door.
Lawyer Chu smiled, not specifying what she was laughing at. “You change girlfriends pretty quickly.”
“I’ve only ever had one girlfriend before, and she was a scammer,” Ji Mingxiao said, annoyed. “At least I got all the money back.”
“I didn’t say anything. But you’ve learned your lesson this time. Next time, open your eyes. You got conned with just a couple of sentences. Where does that leave my reputation?”
Ji Mingxiao: …
“I get it,” Ji Mingxiao said, rubbing her temple.
That evening, Ji Mingxiao returned to her dorm before the room checks. The lawsuit between Ji Mingxiao and Jian Huanhuan was won, which thoroughly branded Jian Huanhuan on the pillar of shame as a financial scammer. Some people had even written reports on their social media and in their private spaces. Yes, students from the journalism department had gone along as well.
“The money can really be returned?”
“Yeah, when it’s back, I’ll treat you all to a meal,” Ji Mingxiao said, raising a hand and waving it.
“Congratulations to our Miss Chu for becoming a rich woman again.”
Ji Mingxiao laughed. “Don’t be so dramatic.”
She took out her phone and found that Jian Huanhuan had sent her a message earlier. Since she had arrived here, Jian Huanhuan had been perennially blocked, and whether she replied or not depended on her mood.
[Jian Huanhuan: Are you happy now?]
[Jian Huanhuan: You’re happy to see me like this, aren’t you?]
[Jian Huanhuan: You still have something of mine. Did you forget? Those photos of you.]
[Jian Huanhuan: Twenty thousand, and I’ll delete those photos.]
Ji Mingxiao didn’t reply. She just took a screenshot and sent it to Xi Ruan.
[Chu Qing: I’m sorry to trouble you.]
[Xi Ruan: …]
[Xi Ruan: This person is so shameless.]
[Xi Ruan: Don’t worry, consider it handled by your sister.]
[Chu Qing: Okay, thank you, junior.]
[Xi Ruan: Don’t call me junior.]
Ji Mingxiao ignored her. She had already made up her mind that in this world, she would definitely make this person call her “senior” at least once. Just thinking about Xi Ruan’s possibly flushed face, Ji Mingxiao couldn’t help but smile. She stretched and massaged her neck.
“Host, aren’t you worried that she’s already sent the photos out?” System A asked.
Ji Mingxiao tapped the table. “If she had sent them out, she wouldn’t be trying to extort me now.” She had known about the photos’ existence all along, but she hadn’t bothered with them, wanting to see how low Jian Huanhuan’s character could sink. And she hadn’t been disappointed.
Xi Ruan’s actions were swift. When she saw the photos, her whole body froze. As an innocent girl, it was the first time in her life seeing something like this.
Xi Ruan didn’t send them to Ji Mingxiao. She destroyed them all directly.
[Xi Ruan: It’s done.]
[Chu Qing: That fast?]
[Xi Ruan: Of course. I spent so much money on these skills, I have to use them well.]
[Xi Ruan: I deleted the photos directly. I won’t show them to you.]
[Chu Qing: Okay.]
Ji Mingxiao didn’t want to see them either. There definitely wouldn’t be anything good, so she didn’t ask Xi Ruan.
Because the things Ji Mingxiao wanted deleted were somewhat private, Xi Ruan performed all the operations on her bed. After finishing the deletion, she stayed in bed for a while before getting up. If someone had been looking closely at Xi Ruan at that moment, they would have noticed her face was flushed.
Xi Ruan usually played games every night, but tonight she didn’t. She went straight to sleep, hoping to forget what she had seen. However, not only did she not forget, she had a dream about it.
Everything in the dream was illusory, the surroundings a vast whiteness. Only Ji Mingxiao, who was above her, was clear, along with her voice.
“Ruan Ruan.”
The other person’s voice was seven parts charming and three parts seductive.
“Ruan Ruan…”
Xi Ruan felt as if she was floating. She wanted to move but couldn’t. Skin on skin, the other’s body was cool, but quickly grew warm inch by inch. Fingertips traced her skin, making her shiver all over. Xi Ruan wanted to scream but couldn’t make a sound.
When she opened her eyes, she was drenched in sweat. The sky was still dark. It was quiet all around, only three in the morning.
Xi Ruan stared wide-eyed at the top of her bed curtain, her mind a mess. The contents of the dream were still vivid in her memory. Why would she dream of something like that?
Xi Ruan took a deep breath, feeling annoyed, and ran her hand through her hair. The thought of having to attend a meeting with the External Relations department in the afternoon made her feel even worse.
“Host.”
“Shut up,” Xi Ruan cut off the system decisively. She knew the system would definitely not say anything helpful.
Xi Ruan closed her eyes again. This time she didn’t dream, but she didn’t fall asleep either. Her mind was a chaotic mess.
When she woke up in the morning, she saw a message from Ji Mingxiao. It was a simple greeting, and she replied with a sticker.
Because she was meeting Xi Ruan today, Ji Mingxiao made an effort to dress up. Although she looked beautiful even without trying.
Jian Huanhuan sent her another message, having clearly discovered that the photos were gone.
[Jian Huanhuan: You actually got someone to hack my computer?]
[Chu Qing: What are you talking about? And besides, why didn’t you make a backup?]
Ji Mingxiao waited for Jian Huanhuan’s reply. She wasn’t sure if the other person had a backup, but she probably didn’t. After all, it had taken this long for Jian Huanhuan to even think of the photos. The number of photos probably wasn’t large, and the previous Chu Qing was so obedient that there was no need for a backup.
[Chu Qing: You should use this time to return the money to me instead.]
Chu Qing sent her bank account number again.
[Chu Qing: Remember it, don’t mess it up.]
When Jian Huanhuan saw the message Ji Mingxiao sent, she nearly threw her phone.
In the afternoon, Ji Mingxiao’s card had an extra thirty thousand yuan. Jian Huanhuan had transferred it, but there was still a hundred and twenty thousand left. Judging by the way Jian Huanhuan’s mother was acting, the money probably wouldn’t be paid back easily.
The student advisor had pretty much found out about Jian Huanhuan’s situation. She would likely be disciplined, but it was still a long way from being expelled. That would probably have to wait until the police cleared up the details of the group chat.
The meeting in the afternoon was in a lecture hall. Ji Mingxiao arrived three minutes early, and most of the people were already there. She scanned the room and found Xi Ruan sitting in the corner. For some reason, Xi Ruan didn’t seem to dare to make eye contact with her. Ji Mingxiao guessed it was probably because of the photos yesterday and didn’t think much of it.
Xi Ruan kept her head down. She had prepared herself mentally before coming, but she still panicked the moment she saw Ji Mingxiao.
As the secretary, Ji Mingxiao couldn’t go over and ask her what was wrong. She had prepared her speech for today. It was very brief, just a few words. Most of the talking was done by the head of the department. Ji Mingxiao sat in the front row, occasionally looking back. Everyone thought she was just checking to see if anyone was talking or on their phone. In reality, she just wanted to look at Xi Ruan.
Xi Ruan finally lifted her head after Ji Mingxiao went back to her seat, looking at the stage without once glancing in her direction. Ji Mingxiao felt a bit tired. If she had known this would happen, she would have just bought a skill card herself.
