The Host Has Fallen for the Second Female Lead Again - Chapter 4
The assistant was suddenly a little confused about his boss.
You know, in the past, if any negative comments about Zhuo Xi appeared online, Fu Youzheng would ask for the trending topic to be taken down, control the comments, and some people would even have their accounts directly suspended. She was so afraid that Zhuo Xi would be unhappy seeing the online comments.
“Do you have an opinion?” Ji Mingxiao glanced at her assistant.
“No,” the assistant smiled. This is what a CEO should be like. Being led around by a female celebrity all the time isn’t a good look.
Ji Mingxiao always felt her assistant was a little dim-witted, but he was good at his job, so it was fine.
“Let’s go.”
“Okay.”
The collaboration they were here to discuss had already been mostly settled. Their visit was mainly to finalize some details and sign the contract, so it wasn’t a very complicated matter.
She had plenty of time to see Zhuo Xi.
But she didn’t want to.
“President, Ms. Zhuo asked if you have time to have dinner tonight.”
“No, find a suitable reason to decline her.”
“Yes.” The smile on the assistant’s face deepened again.
Ji Mingxiao looked at the assistant. “Xiao Tang, do you know? My attitude towards Zhuo Xi hasn’t changed at all.”
“I understand.” The assistant nodded.
Ji Mingxiao smiled, satisfied.
Zhuo Xi received the message from Xiao Tang, and her expression turned ugly.
“Is she seeing someone else?” Zhuo Xi clutched her phone.
When she had called Xiao Tang earlier to ask about Ji Mingxiao’s schedule, he said he needed to ask the president, which meant she clearly didn’t have any plans.
Ten minutes later, he sent her a message saying Ji Mingxiao had a sudden emergency and had to handle something in the country.
In the past, no matter how busy Fu Youzheng was, as long as she called, she would come to see her.
But now…
She couldn’t even get an appointment in advance.
“Don’t overthink it. The scripts President Fu gave me this time are all major productions. If she didn’t like you, would she let you have first pick of these A-list resources?” Wu Duo, her agent, comforted her. “She might really be busy lately.”
Zhuo Xi pursed her lips. “My intuition is always right. Call her tonight and tell her I have a fever.”
“Huh?”
“I want her to come and take care of me,” Zhuo Xi looked at Wu Duo.
Wu Duo frowned. “Zhuo Xi, you really shouldn’t do this.”
“It’s just to get her to come and see me. She won’t get mad.”
Seeing the serious look on Zhuo Xi’s face, Wu Duo felt helpless.
After having lunch with her partners, Ji Mingxiao went shopping for a bit and had dinner outside. She returned to her hotel at 8 p.m. As soon as she got there, she received a call from Wu Duo.
It has to be said, Fu Youzheng really liked Zhuo Xi a lot. She assigned a top-tier agent to her, who could even call her, the CEO, directly.
“Did something happen to Xixi?” Ji Mingxiao answered the phone.
“Zhuo Xi has a fever. She was so upset by the online comments that she couldn’t eat. She started feeling unwell this afternoon, and now her fever has spiked.”
Ji Mingxiao rolled her eyes. “Did she take any medicine?”
“She refuses to take any unless you go see her,” Wu Duo said with some hesitation.
Ji Mingxiao tapped the table. “Alright.”
She hung up, feeling annoyed. She had been in a pretty good mood after a whole afternoon of shopping, but Zhuo Xi was acting up again.
Xiao Tang had already gone back to rest, and Ji Mingxiao didn’t plan on bothering him.
When she arrived, the door wasn’t closed. Wu Duo wasn’t there, and Zhuo Xi was sitting on the sofa with a glass of water in front of her. She didn’t look up when she heard the sound.
When Ji Mingxiao saw her, she paused. Her profile looked very much like Ruan Shaojia’s.
She frowned, wondering if it was just a coincidence.
“Didn’t you say you had a fever?” Ji Mingxiao walked in front of Zhuo Xi.
Zhuo Xi held the cup, lifted her head to look at Ji Mingxiao, her eyes red. “If I don’t get sick, you won’t come to see me?”
“Youzheng, I miss you.”
Ji Mingxiao looked down at her and didn’t say anything.
She looked even more like her when she cried.
But knowing that this person in front of her was a heartbreaker, any physical resemblance made her feel a little disgusted.
“So you lied to me?” Ji Mingxiao looked at Zhuo Xi. When she came out, she had even specially changed her makeup to make herself look a bit tired.
Zhuo Xi pursed her lips. “I just wanted to see you. Are you angry?”
“Do you think I should be angry? Pretending to be sick and not even closing the door.”
Zhuo Xi looked at Ji Mingxiao, her eyes red, and sighed in relief. She thought Ji Mingxiao was going to get mad, but she was still concerned.
“Youzheng.” Zhuo Xi wanted to grab Ji Mingxiao’s hand, but it was dodged.
Zhuo Xi’s hand was left hanging in mid-air. She looked at Ji Mingxiao, feeling a bit stunned. “Youzheng?”
“I’ve been very tired lately, which is why I didn’t want to have dinner with you. It’s because I didn’t want you to see how haggard I look,” Ji Mingxiao looked at Zhuo Xi.
Zhuo Xi’s hand dropped.
“Do you really care about me? Or rather… do you really like me?”
Ji Mingxiao noticed Zhuo Xi’s expression stiffen for a moment. Her face was full of anguish, enough to directly star in a tragic drama.
“Of course I like you,” Zhuo Xi immediately emphasized. “Youzheng, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to throw a tantrum. I was just so sad after seeing all the nasty comments today, and I just wanted you to be with me.”
“Don’t lie to me.”
“I’m not lying to you.” Zhuo Xi gave Ji Mingxiao a comforting smile. Tears were still in the corners of her eyes, making her look incredibly pitiful.
If Ji Mingxiao didn’t know what kind of person she was, she might have softened.
“Go get some rest.”
“Aren’t you staying?”
Ji Mingxiao looked at Zhuo Xi. “When I heard you were sick and wouldn’t take medicine, I rushed over in a hurry without packing anything. My flight is at 8 a.m. tomorrow, and my hotel is a twenty-minute taxi ride from yours. I want to stay, but I can’t.”
“I’m sorry. Go back. Be careful on the road,” Zhuo Xi got up and walked Ji Mingxiao to the door.
Sure enough, a little bit of a temper would make Zhuo Xi’s attitude a little more reserved.
At the door, Zhuo Xi tried to kiss Ji Mingxiao, but Ji Mingxiao acted as if she didn’t see it and just left.
Zhuo Xi stood at the door, watching Ji Mingxiao’s retreating figure, her expression extremely ugly.
Ji Mingxiao knew Zhuo Xi was watching her. Halfway down the hall, she deliberately turned her head back for a moment.
She happened to see Zhuo Xi’s rapidly changing expression.
It was very funny.
And then she smiled.
Zhuo Xi looked at Ji Mingxiao’s smile and shivered twice.
