The Host Has Fallen for the Second Female Lead Again - Chapter 27
Ji Mingxiao’s two roommates returned soon after and were shocked by the scene in the dorm.
“What happened?”
“I don’t know. I already called the police, and I asked the counselor to help check the surveillance footage,” Ji Mingxiao said, standing to the side. “I hope the thief wasn’t wearing gloves.”
More people gathered at the door, whispering when they saw the dorm’s state.
“How much was lost?” Ni Yin asked.
“Eight figures,” Ji Mingxiao’s tone was calm.
The people at the door gasped.
“If they get caught, will it be a life sentence?” one person asked.
“Let me check.”
Fang Duoduo, who was standing in the crowd, pushed her way in and placed her books on the desk. “Who told you to bring it here? What a show.”
“Didn’t you tell me not to lock it then?” Ji Mingxiao looked at Fang Duoduo.
Her intuition told her Fang Duoduo was involved.
“You’re not going to say it was me, are you?” Fang Duoduo looked at her.
“It doesn’t matter. It’s over ten million yuan. We’ll find it eventually. I’m not in a hurry, and fencing the goods will be a problem.”
The police and counselor had arrived. They learned about the situation, and someone came to collect fingerprints.
“When I was cleaning the cabinets, I thoroughly wiped the inside of the drawers. Normally, only my fingerprints should be there. Also, I have a pinhole camera in my drawer, which should have captured the person’s hands and sleeves.”
Ji Mingxiao gave the video to the police.
“I wouldn’t have taken precautions since it was such an expensive item.”
“Okay,” Ji Mingxiao smiled. “Since I have to go to class, is it alright if my assistants Su Mian and Nan Cheng handle the follow-up?”
“Yes.”
Everyone knew Ji Mingxiao was pressuring them.
The surveillance cameras around the dorm building were taken away. Ji Mingxiao also posted photos online, regretting that there were no cameras inside the dorm building.
She offered a reward of 500,000 yuan.
Soon, a lead emerged.
The person was clearly a first-timer. The jacket was found in a trash bag on the hill behind the school. Although it was half-burned, its original appearance was still recognizable.
The owner of the jacket was quickly identified.
It was Fang Duoduo’s hometown friend. The stolen items were still in her possession, and she couldn’t find anyone to sell them to because no one dared to take them.
She claimed that Fang Duoduo had instigated her. She was heavily in debt and, after being convinced by Fang Duoduo, committed the act when no one was around. Fang Duoduo had conveniently left the door unlocked.
Fang Duoduo and her hometown friend were expelled and detained. As for the length of their sentences, Ji Mingxiao didn’t care much. It wouldn’t be short, given the large amount of money involved, and the Nan family had even provided a team of lawyers.
Ji Mingxiao felt she was too soft-hearted. Although she had considered removing Fang Duoduo from the list, she thought Fang Duoduo was only annoying with her words and hadn’t caused any real harm. She had also been studying for so many years, so Ji Mingxiao decided to give her a chance.
Who knew this would leave her with such a big problem?
People shouldn’t be soft-hearted.
After Fang Duoduo left, the dorm became much more harmonious.
Ji Mingxiao calculated the time Su Mian and You Shi were meeting and called Su Mian.
Su Mian answered the phone after a moment.
“What is it?”
“Let’s have dinner together tonight,” Ji Mingxiao said.
“I have something on tonight. How about tomorrow?” Su Mian said.
Ji Mingxiao was silent for a while, a little sullen. “Oh.”
After hanging up, Ji Mingxiao tapped the table.
“Hey, Brother, they should be meeting now. Take some photos. It’s their first time meeting in so many years, so they probably won’t do anything. Su Mian isn’t that careless.”
“I’ve already arranged everything. Don’t worry,” Nan Cheng said.
After hanging up, Ji Mingxiao stretched her neck and sent out her recently revised paper. This was her most dedicated version yet. Fortunately, her English was good. After the system reviewed the paper, System A said getting into SCI was no problem, which was a very confident statement.
She wasn’t particularly happy, as she hadn’t written it herself anyway.
Ji Mingxiao soon received photos and videos of Su Mian and You Shi. You Shi was helping Su Mian wipe her mouth.
Su Mian was a little resistant at first, but she eventually complied.
You Shi’s side profile did look a lot like hers.
The front view’s similarity was not as high.
Ji Mingxiao tapped the table. Although Su Mian was careful, You Shi was indeed very bold.
When Nan Cheng said You Shi was coming to be their counselor, she was shocked.
This woman was really daring.
It was a clear declaration of war.
And Su Mian had even agreed to it.
Ji Mingxiao suspected that You Shi had an insider around her and Su Mian.
In Nan Yu’s memory, You Shi hadn’t come to be her counselor but had gone directly to Su Mian’s company.
Why had she suddenly changed her mind and chosen to come and see her?
Ji Mingxiao frowned, feeling that more changes were yet to come.
Nan Cheng wanted to stop it, but Ji Mingxiao refused.
There was no need to stop it; she also wanted to meet You Shi.
The original counselor had resigned, and Su Mian had made it happen. If Su Mian hadn’t helped, how could You Shi have become a graduate student counselor, when she was clearly around the same age as the graduate students?
Su Mian had gone all out this time, even donating a building to the school.
Because You Shi was beautiful and looked a bit like Ji Mingxiao, many people brought it up just a few days after she arrived.
Someone even posted a comparison of the two on the forum.
You Shi looked much more mature, with a touch of a woman’s charm.
Ji Mingxiao was still a bit naive, but she had a unique, pure charm, the type of girl who was a campus crush.
However, Ji Mingxiao was already married, while You Shi was still single, making You Shi more popular.
[Nan Yu: A counselor who looks a lot like me just came to our school. Everyone is talking to me about her. And she’s very young, only a few years older than me.]
[Su Mian: Do you mind?]
[Nan Yu: Not really, but it’s a bit annoying that people keep comparing me to her. Everyone is an individual; why do we have to keep comparing people?]
[Su Mian: Okay, I’ll pick you up tonight. Let’s have dinner together?]
[Nan Yu: If you don’t mind, let’s eat near the school. I have to go to the lab tonight.]
[Su Mian: Okay.]
After her last class, Ji Mingxiao left the classroom and saw Su Mian.
It was the first time she had waited for her outside the classroom.
Ji Mingxiao hugged her books and showed her a standard eight-tooth smile. “How long have you been waiting?”
“Not long. I timed it just right.”
Ji Mingxiao saw You Shi not far away and then looked at Su Mian, tugging on her shirt sleeve. “I want to eat the small cookies the auntie makes.”
“Okay, I’ll have someone bring them to you tomorrow.”
You Shi smiled, but when she saw the intimate posture of Ji Mingxiao and Su Mian, her smile stiffened.
“Mr. Su, Student Nan.”
Ji Mingxiao looked at You Shi, her smile proper and generous, full of a main-character aura. “Hello, Counselor.”
But she tightened her grip on Su Mian’s sleeve. Su Mian looked down at her.
“Long time no see, Mr. Su.”
Su Mian frowned in displeasure but said nothing.
Ji Mingxiao gave Su Mian a look. “Aren’t we going to eat? I have to go to the lab in an hour.”
“Yes, let’s eat,” Su Mian nodded and walked around You Shi.
Ji Mingxiao glanced at You Shi. “Goodbye, Counselor.”
The two did eat somewhere nearby. After they finished, Su Mian drove Ji Mingxiao directly to the entrance of the lab.
Throughout the entire process, Ji Mingxiao’s expression carried a hint of sadness.
“What’s wrong?”
“You two know each other, and she looks a lot like me, so what’s your relationship?” When Ji Mingxiao looked up, her eyes were already red. She looked at Su Mian.
Su Mian was silent for a few seconds. “My first love.”
“It’s her. So why did you choose me? Because I look like her?”
Su Mian frowned. Ji Mingxiao bit her lip, and tears streamed down her face. “So what am I to you?”
“You were, but not anymore,” Su Mian tried to wipe away Ji Mingxiao’s tears, but she avoided her.
“So, will you still be in contact with her?”
“No, you have to trust me.”
“Okay, I’ll trust you.” I’ll trust you, my foot.
Ji Mingxiao wiped away her tears, but more and more tears fell. “You should go. I’m going to the lab.”
Su Mian didn’t move. “Don’t go to the lab. Let’s go home.”
“No,” Ji Mingxiao shook her head. “I want to be alone for a bit. You go back. Don’t you have work to do?”
She raised her hand and pushed Su Mian.
“Then I’ll go back first. Be careful at school.”
“Okay,” Ji Mingxiao nodded.
Not long after Su Mian left, her phone vibrated in her pocket.
She took out her phone and saw there was no contact name.
“Hello?”
“Mianmian, can you come see me?”
“Do you need something?” Su Mian’s voice was flat.
“Have you fallen for her and stopped liking me?” You Shi’s voice was tearful.
Su Mian felt annoyed. Ji Mingxiao had just finished crying, and now she encountered another one.
“I’m very busy with work.”
“Are you tired of me?” You Shi took a deep breath. “She’s younger than me, and her family is better than mine. I really can’t compare.”
“That’s enough,” Su Mian frowned, interrupting her.
“I’m hurting, Mianmian. I’m in pain. My stomach hurts. Can you come and see me?”
Su Mian was silent for a moment before speaking.
“Where are you?”
You Shi gave a location, hung up the phone, and smiled, a hint of pride in her eyes.
After Su Mian left, Ji Mingxiao stopped crying. She wiped away her tears and sent a message to someone. As expected, Su Mian was going to see You Shi.
She was in a good mood. Su Mian’s reaction showed that what she had done was effective.
Between a person with a small temper who was also sensible and a person who was always causing trouble and being unreasonable, who would he choose?
You Shi was being so arrogant because she was relying on their past relationship.
Ji Mingxiao was in a great mood. She stretched, then misstepped and fell down a five-step staircase.
When she was sent to the hospital, Ji Mingxiao’s expression was one of despair.
She had a broken leg, an arm injury, and a concussion.
The Nan family was the first to arrive.
Nan Cheng thought Ji Mingxiao was distracted on the stairs because of Su Mian, and his expression was extremely grim.
“I’m fine. I think I…” Ji Mingxiao comforted everyone. She was about to say she could be discharged immediately, but when she saw Xi Ruan, she closed her mouth. “I think I just need to rest here for a few days.”
She had planned everything, but she never expected to have to fall to see Ruanruan.
This was probably a blessing in disguise.
When Xi Ruan saw Ji Mingxiao, she was also silent.
She suddenly had a very familiar feeling.
