The Host Has Fallen for the Second Female Lead Again - Chapter 17
Zhuo Xi’s eyes flickered with panic, but she tried to calm herself down, convincing herself that Ji Mingxiao didn’t know about those things.
“I haven’t done anything to let you down,” Zhuo Xi said, staring seriously into Ji Mingxiao’s eyes.
Her voice didn’t tremble at all.
Ji Mingxiao smiled. She had to admit that actors were truly something; their mental fortitude was not what an ordinary person could have.
“Alright, I believe you,” Ji Mingxiao said, letting go of her hand.
Zhuo Xi felt a chill run through her from Ji Mingxiao’s intense stare.
But from the smile, it seemed there was no other meaning, yet she still felt uneasy.
“Where do you want to go for dinner tonight?” Ji Mingxiao leaned against the sofa, her voice suddenly turning gentle.
If it was a performance, then let it be. Who couldn’t act?
“Let’s go home. It’s been a while since I’ve been home. I want to cook for you myself,” Zhuo Xi said, sitting down next to Ji Mingxiao. “Do you want to try this shortbread?”
“Mm,” Ji Mingxiao smiled as usual. “I’m just hungry, and you brought something. You really know me. I still have a little while before I get off work. If you don’t mind being bored, you can wait here.”
“It’s fine, I won’t bother you. I just like watching you work,” Zhuo Xi laughed.
Ji Mingxiao ate two of the shortbreads and then returned to her documents.
The two people in the room were each harboring their own secrets, but one’s smile was gentler than the other’s.
“Host, aren’t you tired?”
“I am, but it’s quite interesting,” Ji Mingxiao said. “I love seeing her in the midst of disaster without even knowing it.”
System A: …
The TV show would start its promotions soon. When the show got to the part where the female lead was at her most “green tea,” the dirt could be released.
Ji Mingxiao was already getting a little impatient.
Zhuo Xi had already ordered the ingredients and had them delivered to the villa.
Although Zhuo Xi waited until Ji Mingxiao was off work, they still returned separately.
It could be said that she was careful to an extreme degree.
The public wouldn’t typically assume two women walking together were in a relationship, but Zhuo Xi was still unwilling to be seen together.
When Ji Mingxiao went out, she saw Tang Can watching her, her gaze burning.
“What’s wrong?” Ji Mingxiao glanced at her.
“President, she… she’s like that!” Tang Can felt like slapping Zhuo Xi when she saw her come out.
The President was so good to her, and she was still like this.
“I know what I’m doing. Don’t go around saying anything,” Ji Mingxiao warned.
“I know, my lips are sealed,” Tang Can said, feeling a bit wronged.
Ji Mingxiao found Tang Can’s righteous indignation a little amusing. “Just wait another half a year or so. We can’t affect the TV show.”
“Okay,” Tang Can nodded and smiled, relieved.
She had always thought the President was under Zhuo Xi’s spell, but now it seemed her mind was still clear.
Ji Mingxiao returned to the villa. Zhuo Xi was cooking in the kitchen. Ji Mingxiao simply said hello and went back to her room to shower.
When she came out, the food was almost ready.
After they ate, they each returned to their own rooms.
Zhuo Xi had thought they might share a room tonight, but she was still rejected.
What’s more, she was staying in the guest room this time.
She didn’t dare to ask too many questions.
It was already good enough to maintain the current situation.
Wu Duo had recently been taking stock of Zhuo Xi’s endorsements. Many were about to expire, and she was already keeping track of the time. She wasn’t planning on accepting any long-term activities for her.
Zhuo Xi had also “helped,” saying she didn’t want to take on any new acting roles for a while because she wanted to spend more time with Ji Mingxiao.
Wu Duo mourned for Ji Mingxiao in her heart and then began to figure out how to get good scripts for Xi Ruan.
She originally thought it would be difficult, but to her surprise, many big directors extended an olive branch after hearing about the situation.
Xi Ruan’s hard work and excellent acting skills during her years as a stand-in had left an impression on many directors. They were happy to help by offering her a supporting role.
In the end, Xi Ruan chose a female second lead role. The character was quite challenging, and if she could play it well, she would skyrocket to fame. If not, it would look very bad.
Wu Duo wasn’t very supportive, but Xi Ruan was stubborn, so that was that.
When Ji Mingxiao heard that Zhuo Xi was going to stay and keep her company, she fell silent. She felt like screaming, but her expression still gave face by showing a hint of surprise: “Really?”
“Really. I’ve cut back on some work. I’ll just be doing magazine covers, interviews, and guest appearances on shows. I should be able to stay with you for a month. We haven’t spent this much time together in a long time.”
“That’s true,” Ji Mingxiao nodded. Heh heh heh.
“We need to spend more time together. It’s been three years, and I don’t want it to end like this,” Zhuo Xi said, looking at Ji Mingxiao and holding her hand.
Ji Mingxiao: I really want to chop her hand off.
“Mm.”
“I hope there are no misunderstandings between us,” Zhuo Xi said, moving closer to Ji Mingxiao. “Okay? Don’t doubt me. Once the seed of doubt is planted, we’ll inevitably grow apart.”
“You’re right,” Ji Mingxiao nodded. You’re so right, I want to applaud you.
“I’m going to a birthday party tonight and might not be back.”
Ji Mingxiao frowned. “Didn’t you just say you were going to stay with me?” Fine, it’s best if you never come back.
“I’ll start staying with you tomorrow. It’s been a while since I’ve seen my friends,” Zhuo Xi blinked. “Tomorrow, I’ll cook you a new dish I learned.”
“Okay,” Ji Mingxiao nodded. Sister, please take a few more days off.
After seeing Zhuo Xi off, Ji Mingxiao’s expression dropped. She felt annoyed.
“System, didn’t you say you’d give me points? I should be able to use some items, right?”
“My apologies. The beginner’s mission doesn’t have those things.”
“Shouldn’t a beginner’s mission let me get familiar with all the functions? I haven’t gotten familiar with anything,” Ji Mingxiao said, a little agitated.
A whole month. This was going to be tough to endure.
[Fu Youzheng: Help me see if there are any business trips coming up soon.]
When Tang Can saw what Ji Mingxiao sent, she knew what she meant and immediately organized a list and sent it out.
Ji Mingxiao looked it over and selected a project.
[Fu Youzheng: I want to go on this project. If anyone asks, just say it was my decision all along.]
Leaving the day after tomorrow, and returning a week later. Avoiding her a little was better than nothing.
System A: “Host, is your scumbag index really a ninety?”
“What’s wrong?”
“The hosts I’ve brought have always had a scumbag index of eighty or more. You’re not even as good as an eighty-point scumbag.”
Ji Mingxiao: …
The statement felt a little strange. “Oh, then your system must have miscalculated. What does that have to do with me? I don’t know, but your scumbag index calculation formula is clearly flawed.”
“How is that possible?”
Ji Mingxiao smiled and said nothing more.
That evening, she made a simple bowl of noodles for herself and sent a picture to Xi Ruan.
Xi Ruan replied five minutes later.
[Xi Ruan: Didn’t Zhuo Xi make you something delicious?]
[Fu Youzheng: She went out to have fun. I’m going on a business trip the day after tomorrow. She’s supposed to stay for a month this time.]
[Xi Ruan: I’m sorry, I can’t help but laugh. You’re so miserable, hahaha.]
[Fu Youzheng: Yes, I am miserable.]
[Xi Ruan: Bye, I’m off to have some fun.]
[Fu Youzheng: …]
Ji Mingxiao sighed softly. Life was too difficult.
After she finished her noodles, she went to the home theater and randomly picked a movie to watch.
When the movie ended, she received an email from an unknown person with a video attached.
She clicked on it. The camera was shaky, clearly not a normal recording.
The main subject of the video was Zhuo Xi.
Zhuo Xi held a wine glass, leaning against a sofa, laughing heartily.
“I don’t like Fu Youzheng.”
“I’m not sick. Why would I like a woman? She even wants to marry me. No way.” Zhuo Xi waved her hand.
“I’m so over it. Recently, she’s been putting on airs. I don’t know why. Honestly, every time we do that, I feel like throwing up.”
Zhuo Xi’s voice was loud. The people around her were likely her close friends.
“Didn’t she give you a lot of resources? She’s been good to you, hasn’t she?” someone said.
“She has, but I still feel disgusted. I don’t even like women,” Zhuo Xi said, making a retching motion. “I recently met a few business tycoons. They’re so much better than Fu Youzheng. Too bad I couldn’t hook up with the Ji family’s crown prince.”
“Does Ji Chanhan know Fu Youzheng likes women? They have such a good relationship.”
Ji Mingxiao felt nauseous looking at Zhuo Xi on the screen. She wanted to smash her phone.
Zhuo Xi in the video continued.
“Once I find a good one, I’ll kick Fu Youzheng to the curb.”
“The status of Glory Entertainment in the industry… if you kick her to the curb and she finds out you’ve been lying to her all this time, she probably won’t let it go.”
“Then we’ll just find a way to destroy Glory Entertainment,” Zhuo Xi said, covering her mouth. “It’s just an entertainment company.”
“Fu Youzheng is so stupid. She believes whatever I say. Although she seems a little smarter now, she’s still stupid,” Zhuo Xi said with a hint of emotion.
The video ended abruptly.
Ji Mingxiao found someone to verify the authenticity of the video and then made many copies.
Sure enough, Fu Youzheng’s situation back then was all a part of Zhuo Xi’s scheme.
This woman was even more disgusting and ruthless than she had imagined.
She covered her chest. She wasn’t sure if it was Fu Youzheng’s residual consciousness at work, but it felt like a sharp, stabbing pain.
Her stomach suddenly churned, and she ran to the bathroom to throw up.
“System, tell me, how do you use love to reform a scumbag like her?”
“Fu Youzheng was so good to her, and yet she treated her like this.”
System A remained silent.
Ji Mingxiao looked at her pale face in the mirror, smiled, and then lowered her head to wash her hands thoroughly.
