- Chapter 4 - The Major General, Light of the Empire
Sia met Cen Li’s pressuring gaze and clearly felt the male’s displeasure. Cold sweat broke out on Sia’s forehead.
It was not as if he had never used such excuses to make things difficult for Asher before, but had the Male Lord not always turned a blind eye? Why was he suddenly making an issue of it today? Sia thought to himself that males truly possessed fickle temperaments. While Cen Li did not exactly dote on him, he was treated far better than Asher.
Sia did not dare to overstate his importance in Cen Li’s heart. Faced with the male’s ambiguous questioning, he answered cautiously, “Master, I only wished to share your burdens and solve your problems.”
Cen Li narrowed his eyes, watching the obedient Sub-female before him as he gave a warning. “Do not let me see you acting on your own authority again.”
Sia’s posture stiffened slightly. He nodded submissively. “Yes, Master.”
Cen Li continued, “From now on, Asher will be responsible for the daily meals.”
As soon as these words were spoken, even Asher, who was standing to the side, could not help but look up. Sia’s face turned pale. He could not understand why the Master would suddenly hand this task over to Asher. Sia refused to believe that this was a punishment from the Male Lord because he had disciplined Asher earlier that morning.
Had the Male Lord discovered something? Sia’s mind raced through a thousand possibilities. If that person found out he had lost his utility, Sia would certainly not meet a good end. Restless with internal anxiety, Sia could not help but press, “Master, did I do something wrong?”
The male’s gaze swept over him with a chilling sharpness. Sia instinctively shrank his neck, feeling as though his hidden schemes had been seen through. Cen Li did not respond directly to Sia’s words. He stared at him and asked, “Do you have an objection to my arrangement?”
Sia fell silent instantly, stammering, “I would not dare.”
He had been momentarily foolish to think he could interfere with the Male Lord’s decision. However, how to explain this to that person remained a troublesome matter. Cen Li had no interest in Sia’s convoluted thoughts. He waved his hand to dismiss everyone. As he passed by Asher, he reminded him, “Do not forget what I said.”
Asher’s footsteps paused, surprised that the male would remind him a second time.
Cen Li drove his wheelchair away from the garden. Giving Asher control over the household’s three meals was a move to prevent Sia from continuing to poison the food. This insidious drug only affected males. This was why Sia and Asher showed no symptoms despite eating the same food as Cen Li every day.
In the afternoon, Cen Li received a communication from the original owner’s Female Father, Admiral Derek.
Speaking of which, the original owner’s ability to marry Asher, the so-called Light of the Empire, was inseparable from Admiral Derek’s secret assistance. After his disfigurement, the original owner suffered from extreme self-esteem issues. He stayed at home all day and loathed socializing.
The original owner had accidentally seen a news story pushed on the Interstellar Network home page. It featured Asher winning a battle, being awarded a sash representing the highest honor of the Empire, and being hailed as the Light of the Empire by the public. In the photo, the military female’s platinum hair was so dazzling under the sunlight that it instantly triggered a dark obsession in the original owner.
He rarely attended social events, but he made an exception for the victory banquet the Empire held for Asher’s team. While alone with Asher, he staged a fall from his wheelchair, leading everyone to believe that Asher intended to harm an A-rank male.
It sounded absurd, but the original owner truly relied on this baseless accusation to force Asher to become his Female Attendant as a form of apology. Among the many guests, there were certainly those who saw through Cen Li’s trickery, but that did not affect the final outcome. No one was willing to offend an A-rank Male Lord and the powerful family behind him.
Everyone sighed with regret that a Major General regarded as the Light of the Empire would ultimately marry a disfigured and disabled male. Even if the male’s mental power was an excellent A-rank, it did not stop others from being dark-minded and nitpicking the flaws they could see.
The light-brain projected a massive screen. Derek was dressed in a solemn military uniform, his gaze as sharp as a blade. The moment he saw Cen Li, his expression softened abruptly. “Xiao Li.”
Cen Li looked at the person on the screen, marveling at the long lifespan of the Zerg race. Most Zerg lived between 200 and 300 years. Admiral Derek was already over 50 years old, yet not a single wrinkle could be seen on his face.
“Female Father.”
Seeing Cen Li’s obedient appearance, Admiral Derek thought that Xiao Li must be in a good mood today. He stated his purpose. “The Empire recently developed a new batch of medical instruments. Perhaps they can detect the illness in your body. Take some time to go to the hospital.”
Admiral Derek spoke with a lack of confidence; both he and Cen Li had experienced too many disappointments. Cen Li knew clearly that this time would be no exception. He could not tell Admiral Derek directly that he would be cured soon, as he did not know how to explain to the Admiral why he was certain of a recovery that hospitals could not achieve.
Admiral Derek chose his words carefully, appearing worried about provoking Cen Li. Ever since Cen Li’s accident, he had not been kind to his family, and those around him had grown used to it. Cen Li originally intended to refuse, but the words changed as they reached his lips.
“Fine.”
Xiao Li agreed so quickly? Admiral Derek’s brows relaxed, and he was instantly relieved. No one wished for anything more than the health and happiness of their own child. The personality of the former Cen Li was not as terrible as it was now. Derek attributed all of this to that damned illness whose source could not be found.
After the communication ended, the system notified him that there was a plot point to be completed that evening.
