- Chapter 19 - Hah, So What if You Are Brilliant and Excellent?
Soon, another sharp whip cracked through the air. Once again, it did not land on its target. Asher turned his head in confusion, unable to understand the Male Sovereign’s intention in letting the whip strike the empty floor.
Cen Li tossed the leather whip aside, tilted his chin toward the insect opposite him, and commanded, “Pick it up.”
Asher obeyed. He first stood up tentatively. Seeing the male resting his chin on his hand while watching him, Asher walked quickly, leaning over to retrieve the whip that Cen Li had thrown near a distant table leg. Then, he handed it back.
Cen Li did not take it. He seemed to think of something amusing and let out a light laugh.
“I find this whip difficult to use. Throw it away.”
Asher finally understood why those two strikes had not landed on him. It turned out the Male Sovereign was dissatisfied with the old whip. He silently withdrew his hand.
“How about this? Major General, go and find me a better whip. You must be quite an expert in this field.”
Cen Li curled his lips into a meaningful smile. “Since it will be used on your own body, Major General, make sure you do not do a perfunctory job.”
Humiliation Value +3
Asher had no right to refuse. He only noted that the Male Sovereign’s eccentric sense of humor was growing stronger.
Cen Li opened the door and drove his wheelchair away. Inside his head, the system had already erupted.
“Host! Not a single one of those two lashes actually landed on Asher! This is too far removed from the original plot! If we had followed the script, we definitely could have gained more Humiliation Value!”
The system complained incessantly, frustrated by his lack of cooperation. Cen Li ran a hand through his hair, irritated by the noise. He retorted unceremoniously, “With it only rising by two or three points at a time, it would not amount to much anyway. Those meager points are just scraps. I do not care for them.”
The system believed him, thinking Cen Li truly found the amount too small, and began to persuade him earnestly. “Host, many a little makes a mickle! Every bit counts!”
“Oh.”
Cen Li was extremely cold, giving a perfunctory response and ignoring the system’s words. He was willing to perform tasks, but they had to be done according to his own will; otherwise, he would not be interested. Cen Li hated being led by the nose. He was already dissatisfied with the fact that the Mainframe could punish him at will.
The system was practically on the verge of tears. How had it ended up with a host who was completely immune to both persuasion and threats?
The female soldiers who had been huddled together instinctively scattered when they saw Cen Li approaching, leaving a wide path for him. Cen Li scanned his surroundings and saw the soldiers standing on either side, glancing at him out of the corners of their eyes. They looked like cowards who wanted to peek but did not dare to.
The scene was incredibly eerie. He did not need to think twice to know that his actions in Asher’s office were now known to everyone. Cen Li thought to himself that he had certainly become famous now. He wondered how these soldiers were cursing him in their hearts.
Only after Cen Li had left and his figure completely vanished from sight did the soldiers seem to come back to life, taking long breaths of relief.
“The Major General’s male looks terrifying. When he passed by me just now, I did not even dare to breathe, fearing he would lash me with that whip.”
“I truly cannot imagine what kind of life the Major General lives every day!”
“Shh, stop talking.”
The soldiers, who had been talking heatedly a moment ago, fell silent instantly. Every eye was fixed on the Major General as he stepped out of the office.
What?! The Major General’s clothes were in disarray!
Their gazes moved down in unison, landing on Asher’s open collar. Everyone knew the Major General was extremely meticulous about his appearance; usually, his buttons were fastened all the way to the top. They could not help but begin to imagine what had transpired.
As soon as Asher stepped out, he was met by dozens of staring eyes. He quickly sensed something was wrong, lowered his head, and frowned as he fastened his buttons. He then returned to being the cold and abstinent Major General they knew.
Linas happened to witness this scene. He walked over, scanning Asher from head to toe, a subtle curve appearing at the corners of his lips.
“Good day, Asher. I heard you were punished by your Male Sovereign?”
His tone was gentle, as if he were a concerned colleague. However, any discerning person could see he was simply enjoying the drama. Asher glanced at him, the temperature in his eyes gradually cooling. Linas was clearly there to mock him.
Any news in the military spread quickly. Linas had heard from his subordinates that a male had rarely visited the military department. Soon after, he learned that this male was Asher’s Male Sovereign.
Initially, Linas was confused as to why a male would come to the military. It certainly could not be to visit his female attendant, Asher. That passing thought was far too absurd. Consequently, when Linas heard along the way that Asher had not only been forced to kneel but had also been whipped, he felt his suspicions were confirmed.
The male was there to cause trouble!
Last time, Asher claimed he had not been punished. It seemed he had indeed been lying. Now that many had witnessed Asher being disciplined by the male, he surely could not deny it this time.
“While it is common for a male to punish his female attendant, shouldn’t such things be done behind closed doors? Excellency Cen Li truly does not cherish you.”
Linas covered his chest with his right hand, his face full of heartache. To any stranger, it would look as though he were sincerely mourning Asher’s plight.
Asher swept a blank look over him. The male’s sudden arrival had already left him feeling distracted and irritable, and now Linas was putting on this hypocritical act in front of him. A deep sense of exhaustion welled up between Asher’s brows. He had no interest in continuing the charade. After a cold glance at Linas, he walked straight past him.
Linas was not intimidated by that sharp gaze, nor did he feel any annoyance. Instead, he felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction in his chest.
So, what if he was brilliant and excellent? In the end, he could only kneel at a male’s feet and beg for affection. Linas let out a hum of disdain, secretly lamenting that he had not witnessed Asher’s humble and wretched state with his own eyes.
