The Heartless Omega: I Only Want My Daughter - Chapter 6
“What’s the use of apologizing now? You were photographed, and it’s already trending on the hot search,” Gu Yan said crossly.
She had never had a good temperament toward this “scumbag woman.”
Wen Ying lowered her head, looking extremely guilty.
Little Doubao reached out her small hand to grasp Wen Ying’s larger one. She said to Gu Yan in a soft, cute voice, “Auntie Gu, don’t be mean to Mama. Mama is very good.”
“Good?” Gu Yan turned her body abruptly, asking Little Doubao while suppressing her emotions, “She vanished before your Mommy even knew if she was pregnant with you. Now, after more than four years, she suddenly returns without a word, never having asked a single question about you or your Mommy. Why on earth do you think she’s ‘good’?”
Little Doubao pursued her small lips, glanced at Pei Zhiyun, and whispered, “Even though I hadn’t met her, I know Mama loves me.”
Gu Yan: “?”
She was rendered speechless by anger and didn’t know what to say.
Pei Zhiyun was also dealing with a headache at this moment. She took a deep breath, reached for her phone, and stood up. “I’m going to the study to organize a Weibo post to clarify this. Little Doubao, you and Mama go put away the toys you aren’t playing with. It’s too messy.”
“Okay, Mommy,” Little Doubao obeyed obediently.
Pei Zhiyun walked around the mother and daughter and entered the study, closing the door behind her. She began to think about how to clarify the situation.
She pulled out a chair, sat down, and opened the hot searches on her phone.
The top trending topic on the entertainment list had already turned deep red, followed by the character for “Explosive,” indicating over ten million searches.
Pei Zhiyun used an alternate account to click on the trending topic.

Most of the comments online were attacking Wen Ying. One particularly nasty comment was quickly pushed to the top with 90,000 likes.
Pei Zhiyun rarely responded to private matters, especially when rumors or scandals were flying everywhere. She usually remained silent because they were false and explaining too much often led to accusations of “clout-chasing.”
But now, Wen Ying was not only a real person, she was indeed Little Doubao’s biological mother. If she didn’t explain, the netizens would eventually direct their scrutiny toward Little Doubao.
Pei Zhiyun did not want her daughter to be hurt.
She logged out of her alternate account, switched to her official verified Weibo, and edited a post with only a few short words:
“No new partner. A private family matter.”
Less than ten minutes after posting, it shot to the tenth spot on the entertainment charts. The post gained 300,000 likes, and both comments and shares exceeded 100,000.
【WTF, it really is that scumbag woman.】
【Has anyone doxxed her yet? This is the first time I’ve actually wanted to join a cyber-violence campaign.】
【Help, Sister, please don’t be this much of a ‘love-brain’ (hopeless romantic).】
【Sis, stop working and just be a professional love-brain. I’m done. The scumbag disappears for four years and now she’s back for seconds?】
【Can we please not be a love-brain?】
Pei Zhiyun scrolled through a few more comments. On the entertainment list, the hashtag #Pei Zhiyun Posts Clarification had already reached the number one spot. The crimson font was eyesore.
Leaving the study for the living room, Pei Zhiyun saw that the toys had been neatly organized. The train tracks had been dismantled and put back in the playroom; the living room looked much cleaner.
Gu Yan was still sitting on the sofa, her finger constantly scrolling down as she browsed Weibo.
“Drink some water.” Wen Ying held a glass of water with both hands and offered it to Pei Zhiyun.
Pei Zhiyun suddenly looked up.
Their eyes met.
Little Doubao sat nestled beside Gu Yan, her small head turning occasionally to observe the two of them.
Wen Ying nudged the glass forward a bit more and said sincerely, “About last night… I’m sorry. I caused trouble for you. I always seem to be useless to you. I’m sorry.”
Pei Zhiyun lowered her gaze and didn’t take the water. She stepped around Wen Ying and walked toward the sofa. “Little Doubao, Xiaoyan, I need to go to the company for a bit. Stay at home. Xiaoyan, if you need to go out for something, message me; I’ll have the nanny come take care of Little Doubao.”
“Okay, got it,” Gu Yan said, still glued to her phone.
“Scumbag. She really is a scumbag. The commenters are right,” she muttered to herself while scrolling.
Little Doubao, unhappy with this, scrunched her nose. She opened her mouth and bit down on Gu Yan’s arm—not hard, just a tiny nip of skin.
“Ah! Pei Lecheng!” Gu Yan pretended to be angry to tease her.
Pei Lecheng immediately said with a beaming smile, “I like Auntie Gu Yan so much, that’s why I gave you a kiss.”
Gu Yan gave a cold snort. “As if I’d believe you. You’re such a little rascal.”
Pei Lecheng tilted her head and rubbed against the spot she had just bitten, acting spoiled. “Really, I like Auntie Gu so much.”
Gu Yan burst into laughter and reached out to pat the girl’s head.
Seeing that the two of them were getting along well, Pei Zhiyun planned to head back to her room to wash up and change clothes before going to the company to settle the matter in person.
As she passed Wen Ying, the latter was still standing in place, holding the glass of water.
Pei Zhiyun truly didn’t feel at ease leaving her alone with Little Doubao. She had almost reached her bedroom door when she turned back, walked up to Wen Ying, and instructed: “Stay at home. You can’t go anywhere. Even if Little Doubao asks you to go outside, you can’t go. Wait for me to come back.”
“Mhm, don’t worry, Wife,” Wen Ying said with a serious face.
Wife?
Pei Zhiyun almost thought she had misheard. She frowned. “Wife? You…”
The moment the words left her mouth, Pei Zhiyun realized that Wen Ying didn’t even know what the term “Wife” meant. There was no way she could have come up with it herself; Little Doubao must have taught her.
Pei Zhiyun asked, “Did Little Doubao tell you what ‘Wife’ means?”
Wen Ying answered honestly, “She did. She said it’s a beautiful title for a lady and that you like being called that. When Miss Gu entered earlier, I addressed her that way as well, but Little Doubao told me I can only call you that and no one else.”
A beautiful title for a lady?
Pei Zhiyun tilted her head to look at Little Doubao, who was sitting next to Gu Yan, and said very seriously, “Don’t use that title anymore. I don’t like hearing it.”
“…Okay,” Wen Ying replied.
After that, Pei Zhiyun went to her room to wash up. Since she had to meet people at the company, she did a light, natural makeup look. Her outfit was casual: a black and white ensemble consisting of a black tight-fitting tank top paired with jeans. Her waist-length hair was straight and smooth. Holding her hat and mask, she looked stunning.
“Little Doubao,” Pei Zhiyun called.
“Mommy!” Little Doubao was playing on her tablet. Hearing her mother, she immediately put it down and looked over.
Wen Ying also turned around. Her eyes widened suddenly, and she awkwardly raised a hand to rub the back of her neck, turning her head away with slightly flushed cheeks.
Even though people in this era dressed like this, Wen Ying hadn’t quite accepted the modern fashion style yet. To her, it felt like something she shouldn’t be looking at.
Pei Zhiyun said, “I’m leaving. Be good at home. Don’t teach her nonsense anymore, okay?”
Pei Lecheng nodded vigorously. “I know, Mommy. Have a safe trip. Bye-bye!”
“Bye-bye,” Pei Zhiyun waved at her.
Gu Yan was focused on the online gossip and didn’t notice.
Little Doubao ran over to Wen Ying, lifted Wen Ying’s hand, and waved it at Pei Zhiyun. “Mommy, Mama is waving at you too.”
Wen Ying was forced to look at Pei Zhiyun again. She nodded and said, “Bye-bye. Please be careful on the road.”
Pei Zhiyun gave a small wave, went to the entryway to put on her high heels, and with a ding-ling of the door opening, she left wearing her hat and mask.
Pei Zhiyun drove straight to the company building. It was in another district, about a forty-minute drive. Since she had left after rush hour, there wasn’t much traffic.
When she arrived at the parking garage, her young assistant was already waiting nearby.
Pei Zhiyun unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car. Carrying her bag, she walked toward the exit. The assistant jogged over to meet her. “Sis, Sister Zou is waiting for you in the office.”
“Mhm,” Pei Zhiyun responded flatly.
After entering the building, although Pei Zhiyun intentionally kept her head down, most people in the company recognized her assistant. Seeing him allowed them to immediately identify her.
“Wow, Pei Zhiyun is at the office.”
“It must be because of that thing on the hot searches.”
“Did you guys see? She actually posted a clarification—said it’s a family matter. Doesn’t that mean that woman is her daughter’s biological mother?”
“A biological mother who only shows up after four years… how does Pei Zhiyun stand it? I didn’t expect her to be such a love-brain.”
Hearing these whispers, the assistant quickly cleared his throat and stole a glance at Pei Zhiyun’s face. However, with the mask and hat, her expression was completely hidden.
As they reached the elevator, the assistant stepped forward to press the button. Since no one else was around, he whispered, “Sis, Sister Zou called you in to discuss the hot search. Also, after the news broke, a variety show reached out to us. The production team wants you to participate.”
“I don’t do variety shows,” Pei Zhiyun said.
She had been in the industry for nineteen years, starting at age ten. She rarely did variety shows, usually only appearing on one or two to promote a new project.
The assistant nodded frantically. “Yes, Sister Zou knows you don’t do them. That’s why she wanted to talk to you in person.”
Pei Zhiyun remained silent and lowered her head a bit more.
She had worked with Zou Jing for many years. Zou Jing knew her personality well and wouldn’t bring up a variety show unless there was a special circumstance.
“Fine,” Pei Zhiyun agreed for now.
The assistant let out a huge sigh of relief, fearing she would reject it outright.
Ding—
The elevator arrived. The doors slid open, and several colleagues walked out chatting. The two of them stepped aside to let them pass.
“Sis, after you,” the assistant said, holding the elevator door.
