The Heartless Alpha Just Wants to Follow the Plot - Chapter 39
Su Mo broke out in a cold sweat from the scare. “Are you alright?”
Si Yu’s face was deathly pale. “I, I’m fine.”
The machine’s swing intensified again. Su Mo was supporting both their weights and couldn’t let Si Yu fall aside. She whispered firmly, “Hold on to me. Don’t let yourself slip again.”
Next time, she might not be lucky enough to be caught.
Si Yu nodded, shifting her grip from Su Mo’s clothes to her waist, clutching tightly. Since this was a game segment, the program had prepared loose outfits in only two colors for everyone.
Su Mo wore a loose red set, which gave her a lazy, casual air while also offering convenience.
Si Yu inhaled the faint scent of Su Mo’s pheromones. Her eyes narrowed slightly, like a drowsy kitten curling into a warm bed, fighting the urge to drift off.
Ten minutes later, the wild swing finally stopped.
Everyone else found it entertaining, but Si Yu, still weak in the legs, leaned against Su Mo’s arm, unable to recover.
When the cameras shifted to other guests, Feng Hui approached Si Yu, lowered his microphone, and asked quietly, “Are you alright? Did you get hurt just now?”
The chaos had been overwhelming. He had tried to help Si Yu, but inertia nearly made him step on her instead. In that instant, panic struck—if he had trampled her, his carefully maintained image would have collapsed.
Si Yu forced a smile. Without her bright lipstick, her pale lips would have betrayed her condition. “I’m fine.”
Feng Hui nodded. “Good. But if you feel unwell, you must say so. It’s a recorded show, it’s okay.”
“Mm.”
The rest of the program was simple. Each person sang two songs, and the cast joined together for the ending theme before wrapping up.
After the show, Su Mo and Pu Ying headed to the underground aircraft lot. Pu Ying tugged Su Mo’s arm, scanning her up and down with concern. “You weren’t hurt on stage, were you? I can’t believe in this day and age, this station still hasn’t perfected its safety measures. Next time, we’re not coming.”
Su Mo chuckled helplessly, unsure how to respond.
Si Yu arrived with her agent, Liu Jiang. Liu Jiang had once been hostile toward Su Mo, suspecting her of secretly meddling with her artist. But after seeing Su Mo save Si Yu again today, Liu Jiang’s expression softened slightly. She even nodded politely in greeting.
Fortunately, Su Mo didn’t care. If it had been the original Su Mo, she would have retaliated against Si Yu and Liu Jiang.
Si Yu stepped forward and said softly, “Thank you again today. If not for you, I would have been hurt.”
The first time had been the insect swarm. The second, waiting in the freezing wind for an aircraft. And now, this game. Every time she met Su Mo, she ended up in a mess, never leaving a good impression.
“I didn’t bring your clothes. I didn’t know you’d come. Let’s meet another time so I can return them.”
Su Mo waved it off. “Don’t bother. It’s just a piece of clothing.”
Pu Ying retrieved a delicate gift bag from the aircraft and handed it to Su Mo, who then passed it to Si Yu. Su Mo said, a little embarrassed, “This is what I borrowed from you last time. I promised to return it, but I’ve been too busy and couldn’t find an omega to buy it.”
Since only omegas could purchase omega inhibitors, Su Mo’s explanation sounded genuine to Si Yu.
Relaxing, Si Yu smiled faintly. “It’s fine. Saving someone is more important. These things aren’t that significant.”
But her smile quickly faded. If only omegas could buy them, then Su Mo giving them to her meant she had found an omega. Did that imply something?
She dismissed the thought almost immediately. What omega would let their alpha deliver such things to another omega? That would only invite misunderstanding.
“Do you have any other plans? The director mentioned another promotion event. He asked me to check if you’d be willing to attend.”
She tried to sound casual, but her words carried a trace of expectation and shyness.
Su Mo thought for a moment. “Probably not.”
She had come this time only to return the item and do a bit of promotion. She wouldn’t attend another. The film wasn’t well made, and promoting it wouldn’t help. She didn’t expect anyone to buy into it.
If she hadn’t directed the later parts herself, she might have refused to acknowledge such a half-hearted work as her own.
Hearing the expected refusal, Si Yu exhaled deeply. “Alright. I’ll let the director know.”
After all, Su Mo never attended promotions. This appearance was already an exception.
“Mm. We’ll head out now.”
Su Mo waved, then turned and boarded the aircraft with Pu Ying.
Si Yu stood rooted, watching until Su Mo’s aircraft vanished from sight.
Liu Jiang observed her distracted expression, pursing her lips with unease.
“Even if she saved you twice, she’s not a good match. Don’t get your hopes up. I don’t think she has any special feelings for you.”
Si Yu knew that too. If Su Mo truly felt something, she wouldn’t interact with her so calmly. Genuine affection couldn’t be hidden, it showed in one’s eyes.
Her own heartbeat quickened whenever she was near Su Mo. In Su Mo’s arms, she felt safe. When Su Mo saved her, she instinctively leaned closer.
But Su Mo’s heart never changed. Even when Si Yu clung to her, her heartbeat remained steady.
Si Yu forced a smile. “I know. I’m just unwilling to accept it.”
It was rare to meet someone who, in moments of danger, would shield her without hesitation.
But sadly, Su Mo did it not out of love.
She took a deep breath before finally boarding her aircraft.
“Let’s go. Next time we meet, I’ll return the clothes to her.”
Since she had already made up her mind, she had to be decisive—no hesitation, no wavering.
Liu Jiang exhaled in relief and followed her aboard. “I’m glad you understand.”
In this industry, where emotions run rampant, holding on to one’s true self was already difficult. To rely on feelings further would only lead to ruin.
Inside the aircraft, Pu Ying glanced at Su Mo, who was yawning. Thinking of the inhibitors and recalling Qiu Fu on the red carpet, she hesitated before saying, “If something like this happens again, let me handle it. You shouldn’t be the one to step in.”
Su Mo gave a puzzled hum.
Pu Ying explained, “Whether returning or giving, as an alpha, delivering inhibitors to a single omega reflects poorly on both your reputation and theirs if word spreads.”
Su Mo closed her eyes. “What era are we living in? Why cling to such outdated notions? It’s absurd.”
“This isn’t outdated, it’s for your own good.”
Pu Ying continued, “An alpha giving inhibitors to an omega is something only an engaged AO pair, already bound by light-brain, would do.”
She emphasized, “Inhibitors and soothing agents are intimate items, like personal clothing. If someone gave you their undergarments, wouldn’t you assume they had feelings for you?”
Su Mo: “…”
She hadn’t thought that far!
And how could something like this be equated with personal clothing? Ridiculous.
Feeling stifled, she muttered, “I’ll be more careful next time.”
Afraid Su Mo might misunderstand, Pu Ying quickly added, “I only mean well. I wasn’t criticizing you.”
Su Mo replied calmly, “I know. I don’t blame you.”
Indeed, she had been careless. For her, the matter wouldn’t affect her much, she was already known in the industry for being bold. But for Si Yu, it was different. Since debut, Si Yu had almost no scandals, except the ones involving Su Mo.
For her, this was already troublesome enough.
“As long as you understand.”
Pu Ying asked, “Are we heading back to the old estate now?”
It was nearly December. Su Mo had promised not to take on new scripts or schedules, planning instead to spend time with her grandfather.
“Mm.”
“Then rest. I’ll wake you when we arrive.”
“Alright.”
Su Mo closed her eyes, replaying recent events especially the moment she returned the inhibitor to Si Yu.
At first, it hadn’t seemed significant. But now, recalling Liu Jiang’s expression, something felt off. Was it really because of the inhibitor?
In truth, Liu Jiang had no idea what Su Mo had given Si Yu. On the aircraft, her eyes kept darting to the gift bag, trying to guess its contents.
Si Yu, lost in thought, noticed her furtive glances and sighed. “What are you looking at?”
Caught, Liu Jiang abandoned pretense and asked directly, “What did Su Mo give you? When did you two form some secret connection I don’t know about? Su Mo never attends promotions, why did she suddenly show up this time? And Feng Hui even said she was your acquaintance. Clearly, he knows something. Don’t tell me she came just for you?”
Si Yu didn’t want to explain, fearing Liu Jiang would overthink. She brushed it off: “It’s nothing. She borrowed something from me, and she came to return it.”
But the more evasive she was, the more Liu Jiang’s imagination ran wild. Convinced she was right, her nerves tightened.
“I’ll say this again, you can pair up with others for CP, but never with Su Mo.”
Though Su Mo was undeniably impressive, perfectly suited to Si Yu in many ways, even capable of elevating her career, she was far too flirtatious.
And her family background. For someone like Si Yu, with only modest roots, marrying into such a household would mean endless compromises.
Liu Jiang couldn’t bear the thought of her artist, whom she treated like a younger sister, suffering that kind of humiliation especially one she herself could do nothing to prevent.
