- Chapter 6 - Save Me
After feeding Rong Yu the demon core, Jun Lianyi didn’t stop there; he used his own spiritual energy to help the boy bridge and absorb the power within. Only when a healthy flush finally returned to Rong Yu’s face did he pull back his hands. “Do you feel better?”
“Much better.” Rong Yu looked visibly relieved. He hurriedly performed a formal bow. “Thank you, A… Eldest Senior Brother, for your help.”
Jun Lianyi breathed a sigh of relief and waved it off. Scanning their surroundings, he noted with some confusion, “Are you here alone? I don’t see any other disciples with you.”
At this, Rong Yu lowered his gaze, his expression falling into a lonely shadow. “I… I know my health is poor. How could I dare to drag down the other martial brothers? It was my own choice not to join a team.”
“Oh…” Jun Lianyi nodded pensively.
Whether Rong Yu truly feared being a burden or the others simply didn’t want the hassle of protecting him, Jun Lianyi couldn’t say for sure. However, he knew one thing: if he let Rong Yu wander this secret realm alone in this state, the boy likely wouldn’t make it out alive.
With a silent sigh, Jun Lianyi realized he had to follow the original script after all. He offered the invitation: “Since you don’t have a partner either, if you don’t mind, why don’t we team up?”
Rong Yu nodded gently, his expression remaining placid, as if he had expected this outcome all along.
“Ying ying!”
A-Li, who had been watching coldly from the side, suddenly cried out. Its fur bristled in clear dissatisfaction.
Jun Lianyi’s gaze softened instantly. He knelt to scoop the fox into his arms, rubbing its head. “What is it? Are you afraid I’ll ignore you because of my Junior Brother?” He chuckled and nuzzled the fox. “Don’t worry. In this world, aside from Shizun, you are the most important to me.”
Rong Yu’s eyes flickered with surprise at this statement. He looked as if he wanted to speak several times but ultimately chose silence.
A-Li, however, remained unappeased. It gave a sharp kick against Jun Lianyi’s arm, leaping from his embrace and vanishing into the distance like a streak of lightning.
Startled, Jun Lianyi bolted after it, leaving Rong Yu standing there alone.
Rong Yu gave a self-mocking smile before following. But with his frail body and a cultivation level far below Jun Lianyi’s, he was left in the dust within minutes.
*****
Jun Lianyi was so focused on catching A-Li that he completely forgot about Rong Yu. Luckily, since A-Li’s cultivation wasn’t as high as his, it only took about half an hour to catch up.
Cradling the fox once more, Jun Lianyi felt both amused and exasperated. “You’re already jealous just because I’m helping a fellow disciple? If I marry Shizun in the future, you’ll have to be jealous of both of us. Won’t you turn into a little vinegar-fox?”
A-Li turned its head away with a huff, acting as though it couldn’t be bothered with him.
Jun Lianyi was nearly overwhelmed by its cuteness. Resisting the urge to squeeze it, he continued his gentle coaxing. “Alright, it’s just mutual aid between martial brothers. I don’t have any special feelings for him. Don’t be mad, I’ll give you—”
He cut off mid-sentence as a heavy, suffocating wave of killing intent crashed toward him.
Jun Lianyi whipped around toward the source. A massive, pitch-black wall of seawater was surging forward like a collapsing mountain.
His eyes sharpened. Tightening his grip on the fox, he summoned his Natal Sword and raised it to block the sudden onslaught.
The moment the black water collided with his blade, Jun Lianyi’s hand went numb from the impact. The spray of water that bypassed his sword felt like physical blades, leaving a network of bloody gashes across his body.
In the world of cultivation, one move is often enough to gauge an opponent’s depth.
This person is at least at the Tribulation Transcendence stage! Even with A-Li, I don’t stand a chance!
Jun Lianyi made an instant judgment. He recited the incantation to pull A-Li back into his sleeve while keeping his eyes locked on his surroundings, wary of another surprise attack from the shadows. He wiped a streak of blood from his cheek. When he felt the next ripple of spiritual energy, he thrust his sword toward it without hesitation.
Clang!
The collision of his sword against a wall of water unexpectedly produced a shower of sparks. It sounded like metal striking metal.
Jun Lianyi’s eyes widened. Before he could retract his blade, a massive force surged from the water wall, blasting him backward.
A sweet metallic taste filled his throat. He plunged his sword into the ground to create friction, skidding back over a hundred meters before finally coming to a stop. He immediately doubled over and spat out a mouthful of blood.
“Hahaha…”
A sharp, piercing laughter rang out from all directions, vibrating against his eardrums. Jun Lianyi waited a moment to steady himself before standing up with the support of his sword. He scanned the area coldly. “What kind of monster are you? If you have the nerve to attack, show yourself instead of playing these cowardly games.”
This was a scene that had never appeared in the original novel. Despite the overwhelming power of his foe, Jun Lianyi refused to show weakness.
“Of course…” A voice whispered right against his ear, and a freezing hand came to rest on his shoulder. “I’m just scaring you, little Lianyi.”
Jun Lianyi turned his head sharply and found himself staring directly into the eyes of a woman.
She was an adult woman of seductive grace, tall with a waist so slender it seemed a single hand could encircle it. Her face was only lightly made up, yet she possessed a beauty that could rival the sun and moon.
She arched a willow-leaf brow and curled her red lips. As he turned, she reached out with a slender finger to tilt his chin up, forcing him to meet her gaze. “As expected of Immortal Venerable Jiyue’s disciple. You’re quite handsome—not a bit inferior to that cold-faced master of yours.”
Jun Lianyi’s pupils contracted. He tried to strike the woman and retreat, only to realize he had been placed under a Body-Fixing Spell. He couldn’t move an inch.
He watched in disbelief as the woman inspected his face, clicking her tongue. “Who would have thought? I’ve waited over a hundred years, thinking that cold-faced beauty had forgotten his promise to me. I didn’t expect him to be so generous—sending his very own personal disciple to be my furnace.”
*****
A “furnace” was a living vessel used to refine cultivation. By using a person as a catalyst, their entire cultivation could be transformed into “furnace qi” for another to absorb. It was a dark, malevolent art that had been listed as one of the ten forbidden techniques for centuries.
Jun Lianyi knew this from the book, but this plot point was entirely new. More importantly, he would never believe that Yue Wuji would sell him out.
Hearing her slander his master, Jun Lianyi felt a surge of fury. “Shut up! Stop your nonsense! My Shizun would never give me to someone like…” He had been raised with such good manners that he struggled to find a proper insult. Finally, his face turned red with anger as he glared at her. “You are shameless!”
The woman, Qingji, was so amused by his struggle to find a curse word that she laughed until tears pricked her eyes. She wiped a tear away with a finger. Since people only entered this realm every seven years, she usually had to stay quiet. Now that she had found someone she could toy with, she didn’t intend to stop. Her gaze roamed over him before lingering with a meaningful look. “You seem quite fierce. I wonder, if you were in bed…”
She leaned close, whispering against his ear, “If you could be this fierce there, I would be even more delighted.”
Her voice was thick with implication, sending a wave of goosebumps over Jun Lianyi’s skin. His face burned with embarrassment. In all his time since transmigrating, the most intimate thing he’d imagined with Yue Wuji was a kiss. How could this woman say such things so openly?
“You…” He trembled with rage, his mind going blank as he struggled for a retort.
Qingji was satisfied with his reaction. Remembering how she had been bullied by Yue Wuji in the past, she wanted to take it out on his disciple. She was about to tease him further when she felt a surge of killing intent from behind.
She swallowed her words and narrowed her eyes. Without even letting go of Jun Lianyi’s chin, she condensed a water orb in her free hand and hurled it backward.
“Ugh…”
A soft grunt followed, and the intruder was silenced.
Qingji lost interest in teasing him further for the moment. With a wave of her sleeve, she whisked him away. “Little Lianyi, let’s find a better place to play.”
Jun Lianyi strained his eyes, trying to catch a glimpse of the person behind them.
That was Rong Yu—
The woman hadn’t held back with that strike. He had no idea how badly Rong Yu was hurt. “Rong Yu!” he shouted, but he couldn’t stop Qingji from dragging him away.
*****
In the blink of an eye, Jun Lianyi found himself in a new location.
It looked like a cave, but it was decorated with lavish splendor. Pearls and night-luminescent orbs lined the walls, and coral stood like ornamental trees. At a vanity, gold and silver jewelry were piled high, and the racks were filled with colorful, exquisite robes. It was clearly a woman’s private chamber.
The moment they entered, Qingji shoved Jun Lianyi onto a large, shell-shaped bed. She walked over to the clothing rack and picked out a comfortable robe to change into.
She began to unfasten her belt right in front of him, causing Jun Lianyi to yell out, “Even if you’re a demon, you should understand the concept of propriety! Undressing in front of a man… what—what are you thinking?!”
Qingji’s hands paused. She looked at him with a playful smile. “Oh? A man? Is that what you are?”
Strictly speaking, he wasn’t quite there yet; he was sixteen, which wasn’t an adult even by modern standards. But that didn’t change his self-perception as a male. More importantly, he hadn’t even seen his Shizun’s naked body yet. How could he look at someone else’s?
“Of course I am!” Jun Lianyi asserted with as much confidence as he could muster.
“Is that so?” Qingji didn’t believe him. She abandoned the idea of changing and sat on the edge of the bed with her robes half-loosened. Her gaze roamed over him, her smile turning increasingly mischievous.
Suddenly, she leaned down, her body like a silken snake coiling toward him. Her bared skin was nearly touching his face as she whispered playfully, “Since you’re a ‘man,’ you must already understand the affairs of men and women. Why don’t you show me… the dignity of a man today?”
She hooked her finger into his belt, emphasizing the words “dignity of a man” with a mocking smile.
Jun Lianyi was terrified by her forwardness. The word “dignity” was the last thing on his mind. He couldn’t help but cry out:
“Shizun, save me!”
