The Gusu Mistake - Chapter 8
With their minds made up, neither Yuan ruo nor Jiang Yilan were ones to delay. The next morning, after bidding farewell to Han Qing, the two were ready to set off.
“Yan’er!” Unexpectedly, just as they were leaving the city gates, Han Yi came chasing after them in a carriage.
“Second Brother?” Yuan ruo asked Han Yi, “You’re injured, what are you doing here?”
“I’ve come to see you off!” Though he said he was seeing Yuan ruo off, Han Yi’s gaze never left Jiang Yilan. “The path to Yunpu is long. Do you have enough money? If not, I can…”
“We have enough!” Jiang Yilan interrupted Han Yi before he could finish. “I’m used to traveling the jianghu lightly. I rarely use gold or silver!”
Han Yi awkwardly withdrew his hand holding the money pouch. “Then… then be careful!”
“We know,” Yuan ruo disliked her second brother, both for his suspicious behavior and his way of handling things, so she didn’t want to talk much with him. “You should go back!”
“Yan’er…” Han Yi hesitated, wanting to say more.
Yuan ruo asked, “Is there anything else, Second Brother?”
Han Yi suddenly looked up, as if he had made a decision. “Maybe you shouldn’t go on this trip after all.”
Jiang Yilan raised an eyebrow. “Why not?”
“Because…” Han Yi chose his words carefully. “You are both girls. It’s a dangerous journey. If you really find the culprit and get hurt again, what will you do?”
“You don’t need to worry about that, Second Brother!” Yuan ruo waved her hand. “You should go back. Don’t stay here!”
“Sigh!” Han Yi thought he had tried to persuade her, but Yuan ruo wouldn’t listen. He turned his gaze back to Jiang Yilan. “Yilan, this matter has nothing to do with you. You…”
“It does,” Jiang Yilan finished Han Yi’s sentence. “Even you were certain before that this matter was related to me and the Jiang family. Now, even if you’ve cleared your doubts, others are still suspicious!”
“Others?” Han Yi thought for a moment. “Are you talking about my parents? They’ve already trusted you for a while, haven’t they?”
“Only on the surface,” Jiang Yilan pretended to be troubled. “You’d better not get involved. Let this matter be. If I go, it at least shows my sincerity!”
“But…”
“But what?” What Han Yi was about to blurt out was likely what Yuan ruo and Jiang Yilan wanted to know, but he fell silent and said no more.
“Second Brother, if you have something to say, say it. If not, we’re leaving,” Yuan ruo knew that unless she resorted to torture, she couldn’t get what Han Yi was hiding out of him, so she decided not to talk to him anymore and turned to leave.
“Yan’er…”
“Yilan…”
Han Yi was helpless and could only watch them go.
“The Land of Yunpu, the Myriad-Venomous Gu?” A figure suddenly appeared beside the carriage, startling Han Yi.
“Wu Yunfei?” Han Yi looked at him coldly. “What are you doing here again?”
“What am I doing?” Wu Yunfei sneered. “Naturally, I’m here to confirm whether your good sister, Han Yan, has truly left!”
“What are you planning to do?” Han Yi’s heart tightened. He instinctively tried to grab Wu Yunfei’s collar, but it caused Wu Yunfei to cough.
“Cough, cough, cough…”
Han Yi was confused. “What’s wrong with you?”
“Hmph!” Wu Yunfei snorted coldly. “Thanks to your sister, not only did she burn the Gu worms I so carefully cultivated, but she almost took my life!”
“Are you talking about Yan’er?” Han Yi didn’t believe it. “Does she have that much power?”
“How could she not?” Wu Yunfei was furious. “I don’t know what kind of demonic sorcery she’s cultivated, but even my Gu worms can’t harm her!”
Han Yi said, “Yan’er was sent to the Yumang Palace when she was four. What she’s practicing should be a Daoist art!”
“I don’t care what kind of art it is!” Wu Yunfei didn’t care about anything else. “She dared to harm me, she must die!”
“You…” Han Yi also became angry. “You’ve already harmed my big brother. Do you want to harm Yan’er, too?”
“So what?” Wu Yunfei sneered, deliberately moving to bump into Han Yi’s injured leg, causing him to grimace in pain.
“You…”
“What about me?” Wu Yunfei was at ease. “If they were all as useless as you, I wouldn’t bother with them, but unfortunately, they’re not!”
“Who are you calling useless?” Although Han Yi’s face was twisted in pain, he still questioned Wu Yunfei.
“Who’s useless? You know best!” Wu Yunfei leaned closer to Han Yi. “Don’t forget, you’re not completely innocent in your brother’s death. You’re the one who put the Fumi powder on him!”
“You didn’t tell me that the Fumi powder was an attractant and would cause my brother to die!” Han Yi roared. “You lied to me and said that it would only attract a few poisonous bees, and a few stings would only make him sick for a while!”
“You believe whatever others tell you?” Wu Yunfei mocked Han Yi. “And you say you’re not useless? You’re useless and stupid!”
“I’m not useless! I’m not useless!” Han Yi was so angry that he was about to fight Wu Yunfei, but his martial arts skills were already mediocre. And because he had his own poisonous snake bite his leg to get away from Yuan ruo, he was no match for Wu Yunfei and was thrown to the ground in a few moves.
“Useless!” Wu Yunfei cursed Han Yi again before leaving with a look of sarcasm, leaving Han Yi sprawled on the ground, beating his chest and stomping his feet.
“I’m not useless! I’m not useless!”
“You all look down on me. One day, I will make all of you kneel at my feet and beg me!”
