The Gusu Mistake - Chapter 44
The sun rose in the east, and sunlight filled Lan Lan’s home with a gentle warmth. Jiang Yi Lan was fully recovered and ready to leave with Yuan Ruo.
“Big sister!” Lan Lan chased after her and, without a word, knelt before Jiang Yi Lan.
Jiang Yi Lan was caught off guard by Lan Lan’s actions and quickly helped the girl up. “What are you doing? Get up!”
Tears streamed down Lan Lan’s face. “I harmed you, yet you still helped my family so much. This kneel is what I should do!”
“It’s alright, you were threatened by someone,” Jiang Yi Lan said, entrusting Lan Lan to her brother, who had also come out. “Take your sister home. It’s not good for a young girl to be running around outside so much!”
“Yes!” Lan Lan’s brother bowed. “I will remember that. But we must thank you two ladies for saving us this time!”
“You’ve already thanked us many times over the past two days. Go on home!” Jiang Yi Lan said before turning around and calling to Yuan Ruo, “Let’s go!”
The two of them left the Mei family home, but they had not yet decided where to go.
Jiang Yi Lan asked Yuan Ruo, “What should we do now? Where are we going?”
Yuan Ruo countered with a question, “What do you think?”
“I think…” Jiang Yi Lan spread her hands. “We should go tie up Jiang Yuan and question Jiang Ting properly to see what evil intentions he’s hiding.”
“Good!” Yuan Ruo agreed without hesitation, but Jiang Yi Lan was taken aback for a moment.
“Ah? Are we really going to do that?”
Yuan Ruo said, “Do you have a better idea? Or should we go back and interrogate my second brother?”
Jiang Yi Lan was concerned about Yuan Ruo and didn’t want to see her fall out with her brother until the very end. Therefore, she replied, “Let’s go to the Jiang family first!”
“Mm!” Yuan Ruo called to Jiang Yi Lan, “Let’s go!”
“Hey?” Jiang Yi Lan suddenly remembered something. “Are we really just leaving like this?”
Yuan Ruo asked, “Why not?”
Jiang Yi Lan seemed to be deep in thought. “What if the fox demon comes back to bother the Mei family’s young master?”
Yuan Ruo mused for a moment. “She shouldn’t.”
Jiang Yi Lan asked, “How can you tell?”
“The fox demon isn’t bad by nature, or else I wouldn’t have let her go,” Yuan Ruo said. “She was just trapped by love. Knowing that her persistence will only harm the Mei family’s young master, she won’t do that again.”
Jiang Yi Lan frowned. “What if she gains enlightenment and comes back for the young master after she’s perfected her cultivation?”
“If she can truly achieve something in such a short time, that would be a true gift from heaven!” Yuan Ruo shook her head and chuckled softly. “The last person I saw who was close to ascension had over a thousand years of cultivation, and even though she survived her heavenly tribulation, she couldn’t even beat me!”
Jiang Yi Lan said, “You mean her cultivation is shallow? And it’s hard for her to reach enlightenment?”
“Mm!” Yuan Ruo nodded. “I’m afraid that by the time she’s perfected her cultivation and returns, that young man will have reincarnated many times already!”
“Pffft!” Jiang Yi Lan burst out laughing. “Are you tricking her?”
“How am I tricking her?” Yuan Ruo feigned innocence. “I’m doing this for her own good. If she truly learned from Demon Lord Langyan and did the opposite, seeking a partner with a pure Yin body, she wouldn’t have these problems.”
“A pure Yin body?” Jiang Yi Lan blinked. “A woman?”
“Mm!” Yuan Ruo nodded. “Like you and me?”
“You and me?” Jiang Yi Lan was stunned for a moment, then she glared at Yuan Ruo. “Are you still trying to get ideas about me?”
“Of course!” Yuan Ruo openly admitted it, and then lifted Jiang Yi Lan’s chin. “It’s been so long. Have you considered it properly?”
Jiang Yi Lan moved her chin away, didn’t answer, and turned to leave.
“Hey?” Yuan Ruo quickly followed her. “Why aren’t you saying anything?”
Jiang Yi Lan gave a strained laugh. “What do you want me to say?”
Yuan Ruo said, “Naturally, whether you’ve considered me or not?”
Jiang Yi Lan stopped talking again and just walked with her head down. Yuan Ruo followed behind her, chattering and asking questions nonstop.
“That’s enough. Are you a bird?” Jiang Yi Lan finally couldn’t stand Yuan Ruo’s nagging. “If you make another sound, I’ll sew your mouth shut!”
“So fierce!” Yuan Ruo looked innocent and wronged, which earned her a roll of the eyes from Jiang Yi Lan.
“Your eldest brother’s revenge hasn’t been sought yet, and you don’t even know who the murderer is. How can you have the mind to think about these things?”
Yuan Ruo grumbled, “They don’t conflict!”
Jiang Yi Lan was speechless. “I’m too lazy to talk to you!”
“Then let’s not talk about it!” Yuan Ruo’s tone changed quickly. “Are you hungry?”
Jiang Yi Lan’s reply was just as direct. “Yes!”
“I’ll go find some wild fruits for you!”
“No need!” Jiang Yi Lan stopped Yuan Ruo. She then blew a long whistle and, after it stopped, told her, “Go check the grass ahead?”
Yuan Ruo didn’t know what Jiang Yi Lan was doing, but since she said so, she went. A short while later, she returned with a wild rabbit that was still twitching in her hand.
“This…” Yuan Ruo was very curious. “How did you do that?”
Jiang Yi Lan said, “You saw me summoning wolves last time, didn’t you?”
Yuan Ruo was still confused. “But this rabbit looks like it was bitten to death!”
“Heh!” Jiang Yi Lan smiled mysteriously, took the wild rabbit from Yuan Ruo’s hand. “Let’s just clean it and eat. Why ask so many questions?”
The more Jiang Yi Lan refused to say, the more curious Yuan Ruo became. She followed her as she cleaned the rabbit. “I know you can command wild animals, but I really don’t understand about this rabbit. I’m too curious!”
Jiang Yi Lan was so annoyed by Yuan Ruo’s questions that she had to show her again. She put her hand to her lips and blew a whistle. Soon, a fox came and delivered a wild fruit, dropping it and running away.
Yuan Ruo was stunned. “You can make them do what you tell them to?”
“I can’t command the big ones, but these small tasks are not difficult!” Jiang Yi Lan picked up the wild fruit and handed it to Yuan Ruo. “Foxes are the best at picking fruits. Eat it, you can’t go wrong!”
Yuan Ruo took the fruit but didn’t eat it. “Does this skill of yours have any other uses?”
“Of course!” Jiang Yi Lan held up the cleaned wild rabbit. “If we’re ever in a critical situation, I can summon all the birds and beasts within a ten-mile radius. However, they don’t distinguish between people, so when I use this trick, it will also hurt my own people who are not able to avoid it.”
Yuan Ruo didn’t reply, her mind already picturing the scene. No matter how powerful a person was, they would be insignificant in the face of countless birds and beasts. “I hope you never have to use that trick.”
“I’ve used it before!” Jiang Yi Lan sneered. “That was the day I summoned the beasts to resolve the Jiang family’s crisis and earned the right to become the head of the Jiang family from the clan elders…”
