The Gusu Mistake - Chapter 3
On a mountain road, just before dusk, the light was mostly blocked by the forests on both sides of the mountains, adding an unsettling eeriness to the atmosphere.
“M-Master!” A member of the Han family accompanying Yuan ruo came to ask her, quickly changing his address from “Miss” to “Master.” “It’s getting dark. It’s probably not safe to travel at night. Should we…?”
“If you’re scared, then find a place to rest,” said Yuan ruo, dressed in men’s clothing. She reined in her horse and got down slowly. “You all can make your own arrangements.”
“Yes!” The man followed her order and went to settle the others. Soon, a bonfire was lit.
“Master!” The Han family member came to give Yuan ruo some dry food. “Please have some food!”
“Thank you,” Yuan ruo said as she took the food. The Han family member was surprised.
“Master… thanked me?”
“What’s wrong?” Yuan ruo asked while nibbling on the biscuit. “Do you think my thanks weren’t sincere enough?”
“No, no!” The man waved his hands repeatedly. “It’s just that I’m just a servant, I don’t deserve it!”
“Servants are people too!” Yuan ruo broke off a piece of the biscuit. “In front of me, you don’t have to think about these things. Just be yourselves!”
“This…” The man looked troubled. “I dare not!”
“There’s nothing to dare about. Don’t say any more and go back to your work,” Yuan ruo urged, but the man didn’t leave. “What’s wrong? Is there something else?”
“I…” The man hesitated for a moment before speaking. “I’m just worried that the eldest young master had an accident on his way to his marriage…”
“You’re worried that I’ll also have an accident?” Yuan ruo said directly. “You’re afraid I’ll end up like my older brother?”
“Please forgive me, Master!” The man knelt down in a panic. “I didn’t mean to curse you, it’s just…”
“Get up. I’m not dead, why are you kneeling?” Yuan ruo was about to pull him up when she suddenly felt a killing intent. She instinctively swung her sword to block it, and a dart with a blue glow fell to the ground.
“Someone’s attacking! Be on guard!” The Han family member immediately warned the others. Soon, a group of men in black appeared on both sides of the mountains, surrounding the Han family.
“Who are you?” A Han family member asked the men in black loudly, but the response was another poisoned dart.
“Clang!” Yuan ruo blocked the dart with her sword. “Hey, are your mouths only for eating? I’m talking to you, why are you using your hands?”
“Hehe!” A man in black and a cloak spoke leisurely. “Are you the Han family daughter, Han Yan?”
Yuan ruo blinked, looked down at her men’s clothing, and asked the Han family member next to her, “Do I not look enough like a man?”
The Han family member was stunned and didn’t know how to answer.
“That’s not right!” Yuan ruo looked up at the man in the black cloak. “Don’t tell me you’re from the Jiang family!”
“So what?” The man sneered. “How dare your disgraced Han family try to marry our young lady? It’s like a toad wanting to eat swan meat!”
“Hehe!” Yuan ruo let out two meaningful laughs and didn’t respond to the man’s words.
“What are you laughing at?” The man’s eyes under the cloak flickered with a cold, murderous light.
“I don’t know what I’m laughing at, I just suddenly felt like it!” As Yuan ruo spoke, she moved her fingers in a hand sign, ready to strike.
“In that case, I’ll send you to hell to laugh all you want!” The man in the black cloak said and moved to attack. First, he threw several poisoned darts straight at Yuan ruo, then he rushed forward, and they began to fight at close quarters.
During the fight, the man in the black cloak was swept away by Yuan ruo’s sword. Although he tried his best to dodge, the sword energy still cut a gash in his chest.
Yuan ruo looked at the man thoughtfully for a moment, then without hesitation, she rushed forward and thrust her sword at him. As the man hurriedly dodged, he threw out several strangely shaped poisonous insects from his sleeve.
Just as the poisonous insects were about to touch Yuan ruo, a magical seal in her palm rose into the air and turned into a real fire, instantly burning all the poisonous insects to ashes.
“You?” The man in the black cloak looked at Yuan ruo in disbelief. “What kind of sorcery is this?”
“Daoist immortal art, and you call it sorcery?” Yuan ruo pointed her sword at the man. “I think you really deserve to die!”
“You’re going to kill me?” The man in the black cloak unconsciously took two steps back. Seeing that Yuan ruo truly didn’t plan to let him go, he quickly threw out two smoke bombs and retreated, not caring if his subordinates followed him.
With their leader gone, the others immediately lost their will to fight and retreated as well. The mountain road, which had been a chaotic battlefield, suddenly became quiet.
“Master!” The Han family member from before ran to Yuan ruo’s side. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine!” Yuan ruo waved her hand, then looked around at the others. “Go and check on them. If anyone is injured, make sure they are taken care of properly!”
“Yes!” The man followed her orders. Yuan ruo sat down alone, looked at the half-eaten biscuit on the ground, picked it up, dusted it off, and threw it far away. “Jiang family, Jiang Yilan, who on earth did you offend? My brother even lost his life because of it?”
