The Gusu Mistake - Chapter 19
“This is hopeless!” Jiang Yilan lamented suddenly after they had been walking for a while.
“What’s wrong?” Yuan Ruo asked.
Jiang Yilan threw up her hands. “I never imagined this place would be so huge. How are we supposed to find that Zhong Yuanwai’s house?”
Yuan Ruo looked at the town, which was far bigger than they’d expected, and was also at a loss. “Let’s find someone and ask,” she suggested.
“Alright!” Jiang Yilan agreed. She immediately started looking for a target. When a group of people passed by, she instinctively grabbed one of them. “Excuse me… oh, hey? What a coincidence!”
“You?” The person was no one else but the bully who had caused trouble at the tea shop owner Li’s house. The bully saw Jiang Yilan and immediately became furious, gesturing to the henchmen behind him. “Get her!”
“Oh, no, you don’t!” A henchman was about to get closer when Yuan Ruo’s sword sheath swung and struck him. The rest of the men were swiftly dealt with in a flash.
“You… you…” The bully saw all his men on the ground and was terrified beyond belief.
“You don’t have to be afraid,” Jiang Yilan said, smiling as she approached the bully. He backed away step by step until he was cornered, then bravely swung a fist at her.
“Go to hell!”
Jiang Yilan dodged nimbly and touched his arm. A small bug crawled out of her hand and burrowed under his skin.
“Ah… hahaha…”
The bully started laughing uncontrollably, collapsing on the ground and unable to stop.
“Mercy, my lady, mercy… hahaha…”
The bully begged for his life while laughing. Jiang Yilan waited until he was exhausted from laughing before she acted again, retrieving the bug. She crouched beside him and said, “Alright, I have a few questions for you. Answer them honestly!”
“I’ll answer, I’ll answer!” The weak bully nodded repeatedly. “Please ask, my lady.”
Jiang Yilan asked, “Is your master Zhong Yuanwai?”
The bully nodded. “Yes! He’s the one who sent us to seize the Li family’s land!”
“What are you talking about?” Jiang Yilan’s expression darkened. “That’s a perfectly good house, how is it ‘land’?”
“Yes, yes, it’s a house!” the bully quickly agreed. “But we weren’t the ones who said that. It was Zhong Yuanwai. He consulted a master who said that spot was the best for moving their ancestors’ grave, and that would cure the young master!”
Jiang Yilan thought for a moment. “What’s wrong with your young master?”
“What’s wrong with him? Oh, sigh!” The bully sighed. “I wish I knew what was wrong with him. At least then we wouldn’t have to go through all this trouble!”
“What do you mean?” Jiang Yilan asked.
“Our young master was a perfectly normal person,” the bully said, glancing nervously at Jiang Yilan to make sure she wasn’t annoyed. “Then one morning, he woke up and didn’t remember anything. Since then, every time he falls asleep, he forgets everything that happened before. The master told us it was a problem with the family grave’s feng shui!”
“Feng shui my foot!” Yuan Ruo cursed from the side. “Since when can feng shui have that effect?”
“Ma’am?” The bully looked at Yuan Ruo. “Do you also understand feng shui?”
“She knows more about it than your so-called master ever will!” Jiang Yilan stood up and clapped her hands. “Enough talk! It’s useless to ask you. Take us to the Zhong family’s house!”
“This…” The bully hesitated.
“What? You won’t?”
“I’ll take you, I’ll take you!” Seeing Jiang Yilan reach for him again, the bully quickly agreed and scrambled to his feet. “I’ll take you to see my master right now!”
“Let’s go!” Jiang Yilan gestured. The bully, terrified of suffering again, quickly led the way.
After about a quarter of an hour, they arrived at the Zhong family’s main gate.
“This is Zhong Yuanwai’s house?” Jiang Yilan asked the bully.
“Boss Tie, why are you back?” Before the bully, Boss Tie, could answer, a gatekeeper spoke up. “Didn’t the master send you to watch the Li family?”
“I…” Boss Tie was anxious and didn’t know what to say, his eyes darting toward Jiang Yilan and Yuan Ruo.
“They…?” the gatekeeper asked. “Who are they?”
“Don’t worry about who we are!” Jiang Yilan said. “Just go tell your Zhong Yuanwai that we are here to cure his son!”
The gatekeeper was first surprised, then looked at Boss Tie.
“Don’t ask questions, just go!” Boss Tie winked and gestured, finally making the gatekeeper realize something was wrong. He scurried inside, but came out with a large group of people, including a man in a Taoist robe.
Neither Jiang Yilan nor Yuan Ruo was surprised to see so many people, but Yuan Ruo gave the Taoist a few extra looks. “You’re the master they were talking about?”
The Taoist replied, “I am the humble Taoist Qiu Rong. Passing by this place, I saw a thick black aura, a sign of something ominous, so I came to help resolve it.”
“Haha!” Yuan Ruo couldn’t help but laugh.
The Taoist, Qiu Rong, immediately became displeased, his face falling as he asked, “What are you laughing at, child?”
“You said there’s a thick black aura, but I can’t see it,” Yuan Ruo said, looking at the sky. “The sky looks perfectly fine!”
“Child!” Qiu Rong waved his horsetail whisk. “Are you questioning my Taoist magic?”
“Taoist magic? I’d love to see it!” Yuan Ruo’s smile vanished. She formed a hand seal and shot forward, landing a powerful palm strike directly on Qiu Rong’s chest.
“Ugh, pfft!” Qiu Rong first spat out a mouthful of blood, then pointed an incredulous finger at Yuan Ruo. “You…”
“You said you had Taoist magic?” Yuan Ruo looked mockingly at Qiu Rong on the ground. “I have it too. How come you can’t get up?”
“I…” Qiu Rong pointed at Yuan Ruo for a long time, unable to speak. He suddenly saw the Zhong family members around them and called out to a middle-aged man in luxurious clothes. “Zhong Yuanwai, what are you waiting for? Quickly capture these sorcerers! They want to harm your son!”
“If you want your son dead, then go ahead and move!” Yuan Ruo’s voice was a sharp rebuke that stopped everyone. Her eyes fixed on the wealthy Zhong Yuanwai. “This charlatan has tricked you into doing terrible things. He isn’t helping your son at all. If I’m not mistaken, you’re the one who put that raccoon dog spirit in the Li family’s home, aren’t you?”
“So it was you?” Hearing about the raccoon dog spirit, Jiang Yilan immediately went over and kicked Qiu Rong. “You good-for-nothing dog! Did you not realize you were killing people?”
“You…” Lying paralyzed on the ground, Qiu Rong looked at Yuan Ruo in disbelief. “How… how…”
“Want to know how I know?” Yuan Ruo smiled. “Because that raccoon dog spirit has already been destroyed by me. And you, you demon priest, are next!”
“Sorcerers, you’re the sorcerers!” Seeing Yuan Ruo approaching step by step, Qiu Rong scooted backward on the ground with his feet. “Quick, capture them!”
But by now, Zhong Yuanwai had realized something was wrong and signaled for his people not to listen to Qiu Rong. He stood still.
“Die!”
“Wait!”
Jiang Yilan moved to strike, but was stopped by Yuan Ruo.
“Why are you stopping me? Let me kill him!” Jiang Yilan was furious.
Yuan Ruo replied, “He deserves to die, but don’t you want your Sister Zhou to live a life of peace and good fortune from now on?”
“What does this have to do with this charlatan?” Jiang Yilan asked angrily.
“It has everything to do with it!” Yuan Ruo said. “Aren’t you worried he might have placed other curses? We have to get everything out of him first!”
“Oh… I suppose so!”
